UofL community experiences "Road Joy" with Cards Commuter Challenge & Cycle September!
UofL students, faculty, and staff are experiencing plenty of "Road Joy" during the Cards Commuter Challenge 2025, as they discover the savings, community-building, healthy living, and environmental benefits of getting around by means other than driving alone! They are ditching the hassle and expense of parking, driving, and fueling up and discovering the health and social benefits of sustainable transportation. It's not too late to get in on the life-affirming fun!
In the first three weeks, participants logged 460 trips on foot, bike, bus, carpool, or telecommuting, mitigating 1.47 tons of carbon pollution, saving $126, and burning 92,096 calories over 4334 miles. Congrats to our $50 weekly winners so far:
- Art Professor, Rachel Singel, who pedaled 96 miles on 14 bike commutes during the first week;
- Clayton Steffan, a student who walked to/from campus six times times during Week 2; and
- Jessi Stivers, a Physical Plant Administrative Assistant, rode TARC free to/from work six days during the 3rd week.
