IN-PERSON OR Join Microsoft Teams Meeting
Join us for our monthly EcoReps workshop featuring locals making a difference in sustainability and a free vegetarian lunch!
Our guest on August 29th will be Jean Christensen with the Louisville chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby.
The group represents regular people from Kentucky who are working together to get climate laws passed. They believe that the only way to tackle climate change is together. They connect over shared concerns, build consensus, and work with elected officials from every party towards climate solutions. Come to learn more about: Starting productive conversations about climate solutions in our community; Getting more people talking about solutions; Building support for climate action with community leaders; and Meeting with our members of Congress to advocate for effective climate solutions.
In describing herself, Jean says, "Since my retirement from UofL's School of Music as Prof of Music History, I have been engaged in working against climate change, both locally and nationally. My first endeavor--together with another retired UofL Professor--was to establish the Old Louisville Community Garden. While working on this project I explored opportunities to join several local groups involved in various aspects of urban agriculture. Meanwhile I began exploring national groups involved in climate activism. I revived my old membership with the Sierra Club, checked out Al Gore's Climate Reality Project, and then discovered Citizens' Climate Lobby (2014). Since then I have been engaged in this work on the national scale. These groups have all evolved since that time, others have been developed and it's been breathtaking to keep up with them and with all of the other emerging organizations, each with specific goals and emphases. I have periodically wasted some time wondering what would happen if they all joined into one massive group."
The Sustainability Council’s EcoReps program is designed to move students, faculty & staff beyond talk to action for a more sustainable UofL! We provide basic training & resources, service opportunities, and leadership positions as a point-person & peer-to-peer advocate for sustainability. More info on EcoReps website.
