Yoshi Saito most improved rider for Team UofL during July in the National Bike Challenge
Despite vacations and the arrival of the "dog days of summer," UofL staff, faculty, and students continued to pedal their bicycles throughout July for fun, fitness, and sustainable, healthy, non-polluting transportation.
Team UofL continues to make its mark on the 2021 National Bike Challenge and it's by no means too late for you to join the Team, win prizes, and show your support for a healthy lifestyle and sustainable transportation! Register for the National Bike Challenge and Join Team UofL as an individual to compete against your peers. Simply log your trips by bicycle for fun, fitness, or transportation. Your miles and days cycled will qualify you for great prizes through Get Healthy Now, including the grand prize of a $400 voucher to a local bike shop, co-sponsored by UofL's Sustainability Council! The National Bike Challenge is open to everyone, however the Get Healthy Now competition is restricted to UofL employees, retirees, and their spouses/qualifying adults.
The results for July are in and UofL riders racked up 25,107 miles over 1606 rides since the National Bike Challenge began on May 1st. That includes 1513 miles of biking for transportation, which equates to 972 pounds of heat-trapping gases kept out of the atmosphere to keep us all a little cooler.
Individual Team UofL riders posted some impressive stats in July 2021. For the second month in a row, our 2020 Grand Champ, Kamila Bujko, continued to dominate, racking up the most miles (839) and trips by bicycle (34), followed by our June and May winners, Joseph Turner (30 trips for 383 miles) and DJ Biddle (21 trips for 487 miles). But most improvement was shown by our July prize winner, Associate Athletic Trainer for UofL's women's basketball team, Yoshi Saito, who shot out from the middle of peloton to finish the month with the 2nd most miles (555) & 4th most trips (18).
Yoshi Saito joined the UofL sports medicine staff in 2019 as an assistant athletic trainer. His primary clinical responsibilities are with the women's basketball team. Prior to joining the women's basketball staff, he spent time at the University of Louisville as the athletic trainer for women's lacrosse. He also served as a seasonal athletic trainer for both baseball and men's golf. As an athletic trainer, he is the primary individual responsible for the overall healthcare of student athletes and daily team activities.
