UofL alumnus, Michael Brazley, PhD, AIA, NCARB, NOMA is the Coordinator of the New IPAL (Integrated Path to Licensure) Online Program in the School of Architecture at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Michael is a nationally and locally registered architect and was in private practice in Louisville from 1987 to 2001. Since going to Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Associate Professor Michael Brazley has taught second, third, fourth year and graduate architectural design studios and research method courses. His research includes: Online Teaching & Leaning, Virtual Reality as a Learning Tool, Affordable Housing, Historic Preservation and Heritage Tourism as a Means of Economic Development, Diversity in Schools of Architecture, Kid Architecture: A New Teaching Pedagogy and Classroom Curriculum, HOPE VI, and Design Studio: En Route to Social Sustainability & Urban Revilization. Dr. Brazley’s community service includes: working with high school ‘upward bound’ programs, Commissioner of Carbondale Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeal, and the Illinois Statewide Housing Action Coalition to mention a few. Dr. Brazley’s research has led him to the Lower Ninth Ward New Orleans, service learning and advocacy.
