Hey Ya’ll! Join us for a workshop that will explore how gender equity can shape leadership approaches for passionate folks, on and off campus invested in climate justice. What does inclusive and impactful leadership look like now? How do we build long lasting relationships in our collective work framed in grace and liberatory design? How do we recover from our mistakes because we are not…perfect? How do we truly take care of ourselves and each other in this hard work as change agents?
Let’s talk y’all and share strategies. It is time.

The workshop titled "OKIKE: Nourishing Change through Art" promises to be an enlightening journey into the intricate nexus of food justice, climate change, and artistic expression. As participants engage with the content, they will delve into the significant role that food systems play in contributing to climate change, unraveling the complex interactions and impacts our dietary choices have on the environment. This exploration is not just about understanding the problems but also about inspiring solutions. Through the lens of the arts, participants will be encouraged to see and create beauty in sustainability, using their creativity as a powerful tool for advocacy and change. By the end of this experience, attendees will not only gain a deeper comprehension of the issues at hand but also be motivated to take meaningful action towards cultivating a more equitable and sustainable food system, demonstrating how art can be a transformative force in the fight against climate change.

Climate change impacts everyone and the impact intensifies each year. The UN reports that 80% of people displaced by climate change are women. This means women and girls are experiencing a disproportionate amount of the consequences of climate change already through natural disasters, food shortages, and scarce resources. Focusing on the intersectionalities between climate justice, gender equity, and other social justice issues, this panel features community and student activists who are involved in fighting climate change and uplifting gender equity. Meet some of the youth activists on the frontline. They will share how climate change has affected them and what they’re doing to fight it by sharing their experiences and encouraging others to take action. As Greta Thunberg, founder of the global student strike for climate movement, says, “We can’t save the world by playing by the rules, because the rules have to be changed. Everything needs to change, and it has to start today.”
