Sustainability Graduation Pledge

UofL's Student Government Association created the following voluntary Sustainability Graduation Pledge in 2011 in partnership with the national Graduation Pledge Alliance, and in collaboration with UofL's Sustainability Council. Our goal is to encourage UofL students to take what they've learned about social and environmental responsibility into their future lives and careers.
Those planning to graduate soon are encouraged to take the pledge!
University of Louisville
Sustainability Graduation Pledge
"As a concerned, educated member of society, and as a Graduate of the University of Louisville, I believe it is my duty to be concerned about and respectful of both the environment and my fellow human beings.
As a Louisville Cardinal, I pledge to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of any job I consider.
I will give careful thought to the environmental impact of the actions I choose, both in my personal life, and within any organizations for which I work or choose to affiliate."

Gown Recovery Program at Commencement
Together we can reduce waste and breathe new life into old gowns. Donate your gown after graduation and we will make sure it gets a new life and stays out of the dump! It may seem like a small contribution to you, but every gown counts!
- Remember: You can always donate your graduation gown to future graduates in need by taking it to the UofL Free Store donation bin east of Unitas Hall!
- In May 2014, SGA and Greener Grads teamed up to green up Commencement! Together we organized a gown recovery program to help keep gowns out of the landfill. Immediately following the ceremony, graduates were encouraged to look for the containers marked Greener Grads and drop their gown inside. This was part of a nation-wide effort to recover, repurpose and reuse one million graduation gowns in 2014.
