May be an image of tree and outdoorsOur final speaker on November 30th will be Samantha Rachko, State and Watershed Partnerships Section, Water Division, EPA Region III. Samantha was instrumental to the EPA's 2018 report, entitled "Storm Smart Cities Guide: Integrating Green Infrastructure into Local Hazard Mitigation Plans." Communities across the United States are facing a variety of challenges, from outdated infrastructure, to water quality protection, to the need to increase community resilience and mitigate the impacts of flooding and other hazards. These communities are looking for multi-purpose solutions to these challenges. Green infrastructure is one approach to improve water quality and address flooding challenges. Green infrastructure yields many benefits, including improved water quality, reduced flooding, infrastructure cost savings, and healthier communities. While green infrastructure alone may not fully address these issues, it adds capacity, flexibility, and resilience to other infrastructure systems and provides multiple community benefits.

We'll gather online: Join Microsoft Teams Meeting or dial-in at 502-792-9582 (Conference ID: 930 044 957#).

No pre-registration is required. The format is a 30-40 minute presentation from a variety of speakers throughout the year, followed by 20-30 minutes of open discussion. Anyone with an interest in sustainability can give talks at the speaker series and participate in the audience, including faculty, staff, students, practitioners, teachers, government officials, and members of the public.

If you would like to give a presentation, or would like to hear a particular speaker, please contact Tamara Sluss.
