Car-Free Trips help Team UofL win big in Cycle September and the Cards Commuter Challenge!

 

 

UofL’s Sustainability Council and Get Healthy Now tip our helmets to our top riders as we head into the final stretch of Cycle September. With just 10 days left, Team UofL has pedaled 3,841 miles over 318 trips since September 1st.

1. Juan Tabares Tamayo continues to lead the mileage race with 520mi over 15 trips, followed by:
2. DJ Biddle (356mi, 14 trips),
3. Rachel Butler (339mi, 34 trips), tied for most trips with
4. Whitney Theis (300mi, 34 trips), and
5. Clinton Coulter (273 mi, 24 trips).

Our top three Bike Commuters are:

1. Justin Mog (188mi, 16 trips)
2. Rachel Singel (26mi, 7 trips)
3. Jason Naylor (21mi, 5 trips

Join Team UofL on Strava to log your rides and encourage/compete against your peers for the UofL Grand Prize. Simply log your trips by bicycle for fun, fitness, or transportation from September 1-30, 2022.

Your miles and days cycled will qualify you for the grand prize of a $200 voucher to a local bike shop! Students, faculty, and staff are all welcome to compete. Cards On Guard: Free Bike Locks, Registration & Tune-ups

Tuesday, Sept. 20th, 11am-2pm, Humanities Quad

Keep your bike safe, secure, and rolling! In support of Cycle September and the Cards Commuter Challenge, SGA, ULPD, and the UofL Sustainability Council invite all Cardinals with bikes to stop by the Humanities Quad on September 20th from 11am-2pm to take advantage of three free services:
  1. Register your bicycle to increase the likelihood of recovery in the event of impoundment or theft;
  2. Learn about SGA’s new program to provide free bike lock rentals for students; and
  3. Get a free bike tune-up!

ULPD will provide free swag and information on campus safety and you can use this opportunity to voice concerns directly to ULPD.

And don’t forget that Cycle September overlaps with the Cards Commuter Challenge 2022, so all your bike commute trips can qualify you for prizes in both challenges! Just be sure to also record all your transportation bike trips on Cardinal Directions throughout the Cards Commuter Challenge (August 29 – September 30) and each week you’ll have the chance to win one of the $50 weekly prizes or the $250 Grand Prize! One student and one faculty/staff member will win each week! Any trip by means other than driving alone increases your chances of winning! View Leaderboard.

Through September 19th, UofL students, faculty, and staff have racked up some impressive stats, logging
5,926 miles over 610 car-free trips that kept 3,168.5 lbs of carbon pollution out of the atmosphere, saved $2,299.46, and burned 44,841 calories!

All hail our Week 3 winners!

  • Student: 1st year Anna Dittman logged 17 trips by carpool and walking (preventing 12.5 pounds of carbon pollution).
  • Employee: Senior Program Coordinator in the HSC Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Shirley Wu logged 8 trips by carpool and bicycle (preventing 3.2 pounds of carbon pollution).
