Understanding the Impact of Student Development
Between Them and Us: Understanding the Impact of Student Development on the Classroom Climate
Session Description
Faculty naturally focus on promoting intellectual development and skills such as critical thinking, often without considering our student's psychosocial and emotional development and readiness. How aware are we of what our students are bringing (and not bringing) to the classroom? Join us as we explore how understanding core elements of college student development theory can help us shape the learning environment in developmentally appropriate ways.
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Identify key principles of college student development theory
- Consider how student development influences and shapes student learning
- Explore ways that learning technology can help bridge developmental gaps between faculty and students
