Raymond Chastain
Physics and Astronomy
College of Arts and SciencesDeserves it!
Dr. Chastain always above and beyond to help each and every student learn and succeed in his class. He was very understanding when things would come up because life was crazy this past semester and much uncertainly in a lot of different aspects. He is able to teach the class in a challenging but attainable way.
Genuinely great teacher. The chem teachers need to take notes from this guy.
he care
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He made a difficult subject more appealing and easier to learn.
He was very good at accommodating the jumbled class schedule with covid.
Dr. Chastain is a professor that goes an extra 100 miles instead of one. He makes videos along with countless practice problems on each subject that unravels the most complex concepts of physics like an elementary teacher unraveling the letters of the alphabets.
Chastain, You're a real one and made this class super stress free 99% of the time. You really deserve this especially with how this semester was. Best
Dr. Chastain has been so helpful, especially during the pandemic. He is always checking in on his students and is very flexible. He offers supplemental sessions and information to ensure that there are enough opportunities for us to understand the material and succeed in his course. I have thoroughly enjoyed being in his class.
Just an amazing teacher. He is so passionate about his students. He ensures everyone is learning and explains it another way if needed. Also very helpful during the time of covid.
Has always been highly helpful, understanding, and is always willing to help with anything.
Best professor I've ever had. Pushes his students to be the best they can be but actually cares for his students at the same time.
Dr. Chastain understands the difficulties students face, especially in the face of a global pandemic. He listens to his students and ensures that everyone is given the resources they need to succeed. He truly cares about his job, and he puts in the maximum effort for his classes.
Best teacher I've had.
None.
Despite the difficult material, Dr. Chastain has made this class my favorite. He's always open and approachable to his students, and his interactive teaching style is great. He's terrific at ensuring students learn the material without unnecessary stress. Especially with this semester, he has been so understanding. Overall, he is a great role model and fantastic professor.
He's efficient and reasonable at the same time. Perfect for physics.
He is one of the few professors that I have that genuinely cares about their students. He really cares about what learning activities work best for his students and he understands the importance of mental health.
Chastain was one of the greatest instructors I have ever had. He understood the challenges with covid and related to every student on that level. You could easily tell he cared about everyone and made online class fun.
Professor Chastain is very caring and supportive. He constantly seeks to help his students and works hard to teach his class in a clear and interesting manner.
Raymond Chastain's class was very fun, he was an amazing professor.
He has been so reasonable during these hard times. I think he deserves the reward because he actually tries to participate in my learning. He doesn't just post videos for us to learn and no lectures. He has videoed and practice problems and doesn't base our whole grade on tests which is an inaccurate way of determining students competency in a subject.
Dr. Chastain made coming back to school and being forced to take an online class not only bearable, but enjoyable. He was always upbeat and ready to teach each of his students some physics with a smile on his face
Professor Chastain is a fantastic professor, who has taken great strides to ensure his students are able to thoroughly learn and understand his material during this unusual semester. He has been very flexible and he has given us many opportunities for higher learning in this course. He has been one of the most supportive professors I have had during the COVID semester.
Really cares for his students. Helped us sooo much in the craziness of this semester. He truly wants us to succeed. I wouldn't have passed this class with any other professor.
Dr. Chastain has been an exceptional teacher especially during the covid-19 pandemic. Compared to many other professors I have had, he has been one of the most caring, thoughtful, and understanding which I personally believe is necessary for an outstanding professor. He cares about his students, their grades, and futures; instead of simply about getting his job done.
Professor Chastain provides multiple ways to learn, he deeply cares about my learning, as well as every other student. The best professor I have had here!
He was one of the only teachers who actually listened to our problems or concerns as students
Dr. Chastain is an excellent professor all around. This semester, he was engaging and went above and beyond to help his students given the difficulties presented by the pandemic. He deserves recognition!
Professor Chastain was so understanding when it came to our unusual situation with Covid. He thoroughly explains everything in class and although we were online he made it feel comfortable and easy to have a normal relationship with him. He made us feel comfortable to ask questions or talk about whatever we need.
Professor Chastain doesn't require much text. He is the one of most down to earth, understanding, caring, accommodating, funny, kind professor I have had. He will go out of the way for the student even if the student hasn't been the best student in return. Truly a man who loves teaching and helping other.
Out of all my professors he has been the most understanding about the transition to online school and was willing to adapt to what we needed.
He really cared a lot about his students and also did a good job with getting his message across through online class structure.
Dr. Chastain understood from the student prospective what it means to be a student during a pandemic. He was helpful and created a safe space to voice our concerns, and incorporated our needs into the class. He spent a great amount of time helping all individuals understand key concepts, and created opportunities to get help outside of class time.
Dr. Chastain has gone above and beyond all semester to make sure that his students are taken care of. He has made this semester bearable, especially with having the class completely remote. His dedication to his students shows. He prioritized our mental health, while still ensuring that we are learning. I cannot say enough good things about him.
Dr. Chastain made online learning seem easy. Online classes are draining, but he encouraged participation and I actually felt like I learned. He is a great teacher and mentor
He is an excellent Physics professor and I really enjoyed his class.
Great Teacher!!!
An amazing professor, has the students success always in mind.
Dr. Chastain handled online classes flawlessly. He is very kind and was extremely knowledgeable. On several occasions, I would join class early and have conversations with him and other students that were great. Overall an absolutely amazing professor.
HE IS AWESOMEEEEEEE. Great teacher made physics great even with covid.
Chastain was an excellent teacher that was always looking out for what was best for his students. He answered emails religiously, made several avenues available for success, showed genuine care for his students grades, and laid out the course very simple and easy to navigate. One of Chastain's best attributes was his flexibility when it came to issues arising in class.
Great teacher and supper supportive with everything I do with being a woman in STEM!
Professor Chastain always wants to make sure his students understand what he is teaching and will go above and beyond to help students.
Professor Chastain has turned online learning into an amazing experience. Absolutely zero complaints.
Chastain has proven that he cares about his students. He will go out of his way to make sure that you are understanding the material. For the way he teaches, because of his interest on the student's learning abilities, for being sympathetic and understanding about this difficult time I believe he should be recognized and honored with this award to show him our appreciation
He cares and understands for students. He teaches on a level that is very easy to understand for people who has little to no prior understanding of the course. He is very accessible outside of class. His office hours are in reasonable hours that fit for most students. He responds to email fairly quick. He is explains questions and how to solve problems well in writings.
Dr. Chastain has been one of the only professors this semester that has not only helped his students effectively learn difficult material, but has also been understanding of the unprecedented circumstances that may be present while students learn during a pandemic.
Professor Chastain is an impressive educator and was very well-adapted to remote instruction. Prof. Chastain created an atmosphere of support and encouragement, which I felt carried over into student-to-student interaction. Dr. Chastain was very supportive and compassionate, which was greatly appreciated during such an unusual and challenging semester.
Dr. Chastain has made a significant positive impact on my time at UofL this semester. His knowledge of the material and ability to communicate said knowledge to student has been unparalleled. Other students in his class have the same positive view of Dr. Chastain. Out of all my classes so far, Dr. Chastain has been my favorite professor and is deserving of this title.
Cared about the students success, low pressure course, and actually taught his course.
Professor Chastain is the only educator who's been organized and adaptable through covid. I always knew what my grade was and I always knew the value of assignments. This is the only class that I fully understood what I was learning and it shows with several perfect test scores. If Professor Chastain isn't top 4 we're going to have some issues .˜¤
Dr. Chastain is one of the best professors I've had during my time at UL. He truly cares about the success and general well-being of his students. He communicates regularly and effectively, and he offers many opportunities outside of the classroom for help with the material.
Chastain is always willing to help and make it accessible to everyone. The course is hard but I actually learned and he wants all his students to succeed.
Dr. Chastain is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about the well being of his students. He goes out of his way to make sure we are all comfortable and caught up in his class and I thoroughly enjoyed his class despite it being all online.
He was always open and understanding to students questions.
I think he's been one of the most understanding professors that I have had. He makes classes enjoyable in an online format. The way he teaches allows everyone to ask questions
Professor Chastain is the best!
Fantastic instructor
Dr. Chastain has been extremely understanding and willing to adapt during times where instruction has been a challenge on an instructor to student level. Dr. Chastain's care for his students is extremely clear when taking his class and his class was a refreshing experience even during these uncertain times.
Best professor I've ever had. Kept morale high and stress levels low. Conveyed relatively hard physics material extremely well through his hilariously amazing lectures.
The most amazing professor at UofL. During this time, he made us feel valid for the feelings we had during this pandemic. He went above and beyond for this class to make sure we learned the material.
Cool guy.
Great professor! Really seemed to care about my learning and also seemed to enjoy teaching. One of the best professors I have had at UofL.
He is a great instructor, very patient, always well-prepared and update the course so that it can match to his students' needs
Dr. Chastain is a professor that genuinely cares about his students. He has made the effort to turn his online class into a virtual classroom for his students to share their ideas, and he knows how to make a hard subject easier to learn. Dr. Chastain definitely deserves this award and recognition.
Overall great professor, works with students to help us reach our full potential. Great person too, very funny and understanding.
He was very accommodating to the class and very understanding if we struggled and always wanted to make sure we had time to go over the material. Best professors I've had yet!
Dr. Chastain has been such a wonderful light in this trying time. Somehow, he managed to make both a difficult subject and a difficult time substantially better with his presence. On top of this, he also taught exponentially well and truly valued and asked for our feedback. Dr. Chastain, is to me, the definition of what all professors and teachers should aspire to be.
Throughout this tough time of online school, he is one of the only teachers who has figured out how to work it the best and keep everyone in a good mood. He also cares about each and every one of us more than I have seen any teacher care in my life.
Dr. Chastain has been the most amazing and supportive professor I have had throughout my college career. I feel like my grade is reflective of my knowledge and I feel as thought I was able to really learn and understand the content of a very difficult class under the direction of Dr. Chastain. -
Ryan Luke
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesHelped me out a lot
It comes across very clearly that his number one priority is his student's success. Dr. Luke does everything he can to teach, show and explain the knowledge he has and pass that along to every one of his students. As a future math teacher myself, I hope to one day be half the teacher Dr. Luke is. He deserves all the recognition he can get for being a great teacher!
The nicest professor I have thus far and is always nice/understanding when asked questions. Plus he makes some jokes throughout class that bring some enjoyment into algebra.
He was super nice! During the semester, he set reasonable timelines in place and was always willing to help. am sure that all of my classmates appreciate him very much. He is one of the most understanding teachers that I've ever had. He makes sure that all students understands while teaching or lets people ask questions. Best professor ever!
Dr. Luke made me feel empowered and comfortable in our class when asking questions or about things I did not understand. I really appreciate all the work and effort he put into our class, make sure we not only could complete our assignments but that we understood the material. I don't know an educator who still does this.
Dr. Luke was very generous and helpful throughout the course, to all students in general which I could see. He allowed me chances to help improve myself through this course so I could stay on track. I am grateful to him and thank him for that. He is a nice person and a good professor that I recommend.
Dr. Luke was an excellent teacher who educated us not only gave us the knowledge and equations needed in solving real world application, but also gave us real insight to situations that happen in life.
Dr. Luke is by far the most understanding and accommodating professor I have ever had. During these unprecedented times, he made sure every student that took his class had the resources to succeed whether that was breaking down an equation even more during a lecture or posting the lecture recording after class for review.
An amazing teacher, he's gracious with all of his students. And has made many accommodations due to Covid and how hard this semester has been. He's always willing to help his students, and he actually cares that we succeed and know the content in his class. His TA's are very insightful as well and are always willing to help out.
Dr. Luke was outstanding. The professor would do literally everything in his power to help the students to get good grades or with technical issues with the online portion of class. I have no other words other than fantastic.
He cares. Even when the students don't see it or thinks he doesn't he cares. He's there to always help and takes our learning and to heart and honestly is saddened and hurt when we fail. One of my favorites at UofL.
Working with Dr. Luke this semester has been so awesome. He is always considerate, helpful, and has conducted our class with so much grace this semester. Statistics has never been a favorite course of mine, but working with Dr. Luke has made it feel even more applicable.
Very good at what he does, and in a non-traditional manner
Dr. Luke has been one of the most accommodating professors in the midst of the everything happening this year. He has proved how dedicated he is to his students' education as well as their mental wellbeing.
Dr. Luke is a professor who truly cares about the well-being of his students. During almost all of our online lectures, he always mentioned that he hoped we were doing well and that if we ever needed anything, to reach out.
Dr. Luke was very helpful to me this semester. My Chromebook doesn't support Respondus and he offered solutions for me to take his tests. I accidentally missed a test because I forgot about it, and emailed him to let him know that I understand I'd be receiving a zero, but he responded and told me he would open the test back up for me to take, which I really appreciated.
I had an extremely positive learning experience in Dr. Luke's LEAD 601 course. He performed exceptionally in explaining complex concepts in class lecture and was very caring towards students.
Dr. Luke is one of the best professors I have had. Dr. Luke not only took the circumstances of this semester and made the online class super engaging, he also made sure to provide a warm, inclusive environment. I can say that I actually enjoy math now, have improved confidence, and that is a testament to a great professor.
Dr. Luke was able to make connections with students, even though everything was virtual. He had so much faith and hope in us and never doubted us for a second. He only wanted to see us succeed in his class.
Dr. Ryan Luke was incredibly kind in giving me an extension on an assignment I had completely forgotten about due to personal issues in my life that came on incredibly suddenly. He was very kind in his response and offered me support not only so that my grade wouldn't tank, but also let me know that I am supported, which I really appreciated. He deserves this tenfold.
Dr. Luke was the best professor I have had throughout my college experience. I am not very good at math but he was able to explain everything in a way that makes sense. He encouraged questions and discussions. You can tell he is very passionate about math and teaching.
Professor Luke strives for greatness everyday. He teaches and designs his courses to not only benefit student success, but student learning. After taking 2 of his courses and I can attest to the quality of his teaching and his ability to bring out the best in his students. I think that he is more than deserving of this award, and should be recognized appropriately.
I absolutely without a doubt would nominate my calculus instructor for faculty favorite choice due to his accommodations during these difficult times during the pandemic and his complete understanding and utter care for the students he teaches. absolutely loved the care he put in his lectures. he truly deserves the nomination if not anyone else.
I am nominating Dr. Luke because he is dedicated to helping each of his students succeed in his course. The course is challenging, but Dr. Luke has provided us with many resources including online videos, tutorials, lessons, anything someone would need to understand his course. He always makes time outside of class to help us understand the material.
Dr. Luke was a really great professor; knew how to relate to his students in a way that made the work environment extremely comfortable.
Dr. Luke helped me excel in math after I've taken and failed 3 other math classes! He was so amazing, flexible and understanding! He met with me individually to help me with a few assignments I didn't quite understand. He told us the first day of class that he wanted each of us to succeed, and I think that's something that's rare amongst college professors!
He has always been so kind and willing to help!
He is amazing
Dr. Ryan Luke has been really supportive. Even though he has deadlines he made sure that we reached them and he supported us through all of our work. He truly cares about his students.
Dr. Luke is smart, enthusiastic and responsive professor who cares about students and is an advocate for social justice. Bravo. -
Manuel Medina
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesExcellent instructor, always willing to offer time and assistance to students. Dr. Medina treats his students with great respect and cares a lot about each student's
Dr. Medina is my faculty favorite because he is constantly looking for new ideas to help the students to connect the content he teaches with our community. His commitment goes beyond his duties as a regular professor designing a Latin Film Festival and a Program Abroad every year.
Dr. Medina has made an impact on my first year here at UofL. He is friendly makes me feel at home at UofL. He is incredibly kind and helps all of his students know how valuable our education is. He is a caring and accommodating professor who always prioritizes his students' needs. The University of Louisville needs more professors like Dr. Medina.
Dr. Medina is an outstanding professor, very helpful with his students and former students, always willing to listen, guide and mentor any students who need it or ask him. U of L is very lucky to have this very committed and passionate teacher in their staff.
A great professor and advisor. He is willing to go above and beyond for his students.
I am a former student of Dr. Medina's. Dr. Medina deserves this award, as he excelled in teaching about Latin American cinema and helping students grasp materials they had never studied. Dr. Medina was also eager to see his students succeed, and went out of his way to assist them. Dr. Medina also excels at organizing his resources.
Dr. Medina is one of the best professors I have ever had. He works to ensure that we understand the content and goes above and beyond to help us. I have never been challenged academically the way I have in his classes, which has helped immensely intellectual growth.
Dr. Medina was one of my best professors throughout my college career. He challenges his students while encouraging creativity. He is incredibly supportive of his students and readily accepts student feedback. While his class was one of my more difficult Spanish courses, I learned more advanced vocabulary, grammar, and history than in any other course.
Dr. Medina is an outstanding professor! All of the classes that he teaches are very interesting and super fun! He really cares about his students and never hesitates to go the extra mile to help us out! He is the G.O.A.T.(Greatest of all time)!
Dr. Medina was a kind yet stern instructor who pushed for us to be analytical on our approach to Latin film. I appreciate him for his knowledge and guidance.
Dr. Medina is a superb professor and advisor. He is challenging and demands a lot from his students, and it's because of that, I always felt like I was able to walk away from his class with so much new knowledge and admiration for the topic studied that semester.
Dr. Medina is a dedicated instructor who uses different mediums to engage his students. He introduces students to populations and topics that are marginalized and underrepresented. I have taken three of his classes, each covered a broad range of material from different points of view. Dr. Medina is the type of professor that everyone hopes to have.
Dr. Medina was instrumental in my success as a MA student from 2001-2006 and again from 2017-2019. He cares about his students and instills the highest level of quality in his students and their Spanish abilities.
Mr. Medina represents a perfect combination of professionalism, altruism, and something comparing with family relationships with students until the level of paternalism. Mister Doctor Medina inspires security and confidence in learning and in what has already been learned.
I would like to nominate Dr. Medina. He has helped me to be successful both academically and professionally throughout the study at UofL. He recommended me for GTA ship when I asked him about how to get some teaching experience. He was always available for me when I needed guidance and advice.
Dr. Medina is an excellent professor. He has a great knowledge of cinematography and teaches with a lot of passion. He is also very responsible for his work and is very dedicated to his students. I think he deserves this recognition.
Dr. Medina's desire to teach and inspire students goes beyond any limitations. He has been able to make the most of his teaching creativity even during the current pandemic; in addition to his lectures he was able to maintain our beloved Spanish Film Festival-2020 alive, which was very successful this year even though it was presented through the internet.
Dr. Medina has deeply influenced students' academic life; his attitude towards students is excellent. His principal aim is to make the student fully understand the materials and start their research.
Dr. Medina is one of the most hard working professors I've encountered at the university. He works hard to create an engaging and comfortable environment for students to understand and critically think about the topics he teaches. My some of my favorite classes I took at the university were his.
Dr. Medina goes the extra mile to ensure we are able to learn in interesting and applicable ways. He has played a key role in teaching me to look beyond my own point of view which has challenged me to look at the world with different eyes. His use of technology and media has made critical thinking about cultures and ideas something I can bring to everyday life.
He is the most amazing person and instructor I have ever had in the master's program. He has a lot enthusiasm and dedication to the students' well-being and education. For her, as for many students, Dr. Medina has been a great support and a role model. For many years, he has been the organizer and promoter of the University of Louisville Latin American Film Festival.
Dr. Medina is quite possibly my favorite professor of all time! His classes are super interactive and engaging! He incorporates various methods of instruction and his utilization of technology is impressive. Dr. Medina is an expert in his subject areas as well as a very supportive and caring instructor. A great all-around professor and human being!
Dr. Medina was such a great help this semester. Remote learning was hard on all of us but he took the time to ask question and hear concerns on how to better teach remotely. He pushed me until I reach his high standard of excellence and helped me along the way so I didn't get overwhelmed. I am very thankful I had him as my professor this semester.
Dr. Medina is a fantastic professor who is always willing to help his students. His courses are interesting and challenging and I learned so much in them. I was always excited when I knew that he was teaching a course and he was invaluable in helping me (and several other students at the same time!) with my directed research project for my master's degree.
Good teacher and involved with the Spanish community of Louisville -

Super sweet, funny, caring, very understanding and will help you with anything you need
Dr. Pigg reaffirmed my love for biology and encouraged me to keep pursuing it at a collegiate level.
Dr. Pigg is by far the best professor I've had the privilege of being educated by. Her teaching style is so friendly and rather than scold us for getting things wrong she takes it as an opportunity to reflect and educate to further our knowledge. She makes logging into a bio lecture so enjoyable because she is so passionate about the material and teaching others.
Dr. Pigg was a phenomenal professor this semester. She did an amazing job transferring her BIO242 class online, making it incredibly organized, accessible, and as stress-free as possible. She is always friendly, understanding, and kind to her students, even in her largest classes. She works so hard and deserves recognition.
Dr. Pigg is amazing! She is so helpful and genuinely cares about her students success.

Shereen Abdelhalim
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Abdelhalim consistently taught our Arabic 201 class new and relevant information in a semester when I struggled to gain knowledge in most of my classes. It seems like she put in more of an effort than any other professor I had this semester. She always explains concepts to the best of her ability and takes the time to help out students who are struggling. -
Lois Abdelmalek
Theatre Arts
College of Arts and SciencesProf. Abdelmalek is incredibly warm and endlessly demonstrates how much she cares for her students. She always made me feel heard and valued. I struggled w/ mental health issues this semester. If not for Prof. A and her constant caring encouragement, I'm not sure if I would have passed any of my classes. It made such a difference knowing that I had a professor who truly cared. -
Mikus Abolins-Abols
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. A has been a phenomenal professor especially during this uncertain and weird time in our world. He was challenging and taught the material well with a genuine concern and desire for his students to learn and succeed in his class. He made it clear that he cared about his students and that means a lot.
Dr. A has made Biology fun again! He teaches in a way that makes us want to learn but not in a way that makes us feel like we are bad students if we don't understand.
This man is a BLESSING.
Dr. A is open to criticism on anything at anytime. He can admit when he makes a mistake and he goes out of his way to get feedback on class to make sure he is doing the best job he can during the semester. I really appreciate all of the work he puts into his class to make learning fun for us. I hope that my teachers in the coming years are even a little bit like Dr. A :)
This professor makes me feel like he wants me to understand the material and is willing to help if I don't feel confident on any of the material.
I strongly recommend Dr. Abolins to be a Faculty Favorite, he has made online learning in a pandemic so painless and he genuinely cares about his students. As a first-semester freshman, not all professors were as accommodating as others but he rose above the rest. He makes learning biology fun.
The Fall 2020 semester was challenging for us all, but Dr. A adapted his 240 course exceptionally well to an all-online environment. He always took the extra time with students, whether it was staying online after lectures, meeting with students via Teams, or even holding multiple exam review sessions over the course of the semester. He truly cares about his students.
Dr. A always makes sure his students are doing well in the class and replies on time. He's very understanding of personal issues interfering with class work/ times and makes sure we all do our best. -

Wilmer Abshier
School of DentistryDr. Abshier is one of the most helpful faculty in the school. He is encouraging, kind, and is great at taking advantage of an airport unity to teach the students. He is one of the few faculty able to do this without making the students feel belittled. He is someone that we all know we can go to for any help and we are comfortable going to him. -
Amy Acklin
School of MusicDr. Acklin was a fantastic teacher this semester adapting her teaching methods to the class all the way until the end. Even though we had to move classrooms every 30mins she never failed to be prepared and always offered her time to everyone even going as far as teaching me in the parking lot of Cardinal Stadium an hour before kickoff when I was struggling with a topic!
Dr. Acklin always has a positive outlook, and treats her students like family. She is the most energetic professor I have ever met, and she gives off the energy that she loves her students and job, and her students feed off of that. -

Meera Alagaraja
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentMeera is the best professor I have had. She cares about the subject matter, students and learning. My only regret is that I only had her in one class. She is A+ and I appreciate the experience of learning from her. Again, A+
Dr. Alagaraja is the most helpful instructor I have had at U of L. She goes out of her way to be sure students understand the class content and always provides helpful feedback.
Beyond explaining tricky concepts, and clear exceptional teaching, Dr. A gives you her cell number and expects for you to use it. Any professor who checks in on you after your dog dies or is happy you're on the call when you texted the night before from the hospital is worth their weight in gold. She is truly invested in her students' wellbeing above and beyond grades.
Amazing professor that goes the extra mile. She is second to none!
Dr. Alagaraja is a great instructor committed to the learning of all of her students. She is dedicated, organized, prepared and interested in every aspect of the teaching experience. She also demonstrates a wide experience in the field. Dr. Alagaraja helped me understand the real meaning of working as a consultant and has motivated me to go further in this field.
Over the years I have known Dr. Alagaraja she has always been extremely supportive and encouraging of me as a student. She often reminds me of what I'm capable of and provides reassurance that I can succeed. Additionally, she has encouraged me to challenge my assumptions and flex outside of my comfort zone. I truly appreciate her as a faculty member and as a mentor.
Dr. A is a phenomenal educator and human being. She taught so well and continuously helped to re-ignite my passion for research, providing hope and light throughout a dark year. I am not sure I would still be at UofL without her support. Dr. A truly rescued me from despair through her teaching, mentorship, and, above all, genuine compassion and interest in the stories of others. -

Even threw an online platform , Dr. Christian always made sure her students were understanding material. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students!!
Dr. Christian is the best teacher I've ever had. She made class enjoyable and easy to follow. She was recommended to me and I would continue the recommendations to anyone who needed a biology teacher.

Dr. Christian did a great job teaching this year. As a freshman coming into college, I didn't know what to expect with classes, but Dr. Christian did a great job of alleviating any worries I had, and I genuinely enjoyed learning Biology under her teaching.
Throughout the semester Professor Christian made her students and their success her priority. Each and every lecture I felt as if I was learning something new. She gives her students the opportunities to express their concerns and she address those weekly. She was one of the most caring and helpful professors. I would recommend her over and over again.
I learned a great deal of information while in her class and she tried to teach in a way that everyone can understand by using multiple different examples. it really seems like she cared about her students and wanted to set everyone up for success. she was extremely understanding during all of the crazy times this semester which took a lot of stress off of her students.
From day one Dr. Christian had the class perfectly organized and on a consistent schedule. Her lecture style gave us flexibility but also discipline. She was always understanding and gave us extra time to complete our work when the Breonna Taylor case news was released. Dr. Christian is exactly what I needed in a professor this semester and she truly made me love biology!

He is a really nice guy and went out if his way to teach me the language. Very very nice man. -
Patricia Gagne
Sociology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Gagne's lectures were amazing, and her feedback on the assigned essays was some of the best I've ever received. She always left me with a smile on my face. Even though I never got to meet her in person this year, I hope I do in the future.
I loved having Dr. Gagne as a professor! The discussions were very progressive and made me think of the deeper issues with today's society. Her lectures answered a lot of my questions about why things are the way they are. She was very engaged in each student's work! -
Cynthia Ganote
Sociology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Ganote has been the most amazing professor I've had so far. She is very interactive with her students and encourages her students to participate. She has such a jolly personality, that I actually enjoyed going to class. Dr. Ganote expressed in so many ways how she cares about her students. I would highly recommend taking a course of hers.
Dr. Ganote is the best professor I have had thus far at this university. She is caring and her genuine concern for her students is real. We have formed a great professor/student relationship and I hope that we will remain in contact during the remainder of my time at UofL. We NEED more professors like her at the university. To conclude, Dr. Ganote DESERVES this award.
Professor Ganote was an excellent educator this semester and showed her compassion and care for students through her flexibility and guidance through this unprecedented time. She was one of my only professors who truly understood that we are all stressed and exhausted during this semester due to the pandemic, civil unrest, and an election. -
Mishael Garcia-Reyes
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesProfe Reyes was a huge help this semester and always very easy to contact even during remote classes. He was always patient and respectful when dealing with new Spanish speakers in his class. I loved the way he would always give hints and challenge us to find the solution to our own questions without giving it away which made his environment great for learning. -
Kenneth Gardner
School of DentistryDr. Gardner is one of the most helpful and knowledgeable professors I've ever had. I can tell that he truly has a passion for teaching and he would go above and beyond to help all of his students become successful.

Elizabeth Gentry
Engineering Management
J.B. Speed School of Engineeringhelpful
I would like to nominate Dr. Gentry, she has a gift for transmitting her teachings clearly and concisely. In addition to teaching with cutting-edge methods.
During my studies I always enjoyed Dr. Gentry's classes. I found myself rushing to enroll into her classes. The way her classes are structured kept me wanting to learn. Her classes are very organized, easy to follow, and at the end of the semester I feel that I clearly understand that subject. My overall favorite class I have taken with her was EM 670 EFM and EM 661 ESII.
I just completed the Engineering Management program and was fortunate to have Dr. Gentry for half of my classes. I've never gained so much knowledge in an academic environment that can be so easily applied in industry. Her classes, and the program as a whole, led to a promotion at my old job and, more recently, a new job. Her, and the EM program, truly enhanced my career.
Dr. Gentry is fun, helpful, timely, and nice. I have zero complaints and wish I could have more professors like her. Please tell her I said that, if allowed. :) -

Best professor out there!!! so understanding of her students and their struggles and tries her best to help each of us succeed.
Puts a lot of effort toward making sure all students have the opportunity to learn in this new environment with COVID. In addition, she is very understanding and personal when it comes to assignments and exams. I have learned a lot in this class and it had been one of my favorite courses.
A wonderful teacher and such a caring and nice person. It was great having her this semester!! -
Jim Gerstle
Chemical Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringI was in two of Dr. Gerstle's classes this semester. His courses are always stimulating and challenging, and he always tries his best to help out students. He has been the most reliable professor for me and many of my classmates during this very chaotic semester.
Dr. Gerstle is an amazing professor. He is well organized throughout the semester and with how he structures his courses. He is always available for help outside of class and is really invested in his students. He went out of his way to be involved and even helped me with my job search. He has a passion for teaching and it shows. Overall, great professor!
He's amazing and very understanding!! -
Rebecca Gesler
School of NursingDr. Gesler is understanding of us crazy seniors in our last semester. She helps drive us to succeed so close to graduation. Thank you!
Beyond thoughtful! Always wants what is best for her students. Does whatever she can to help! So caring!
Dr. Gesler is one of the most phenomenal educators I have ever worked with. She genuinely wants all her students to succeed and will meet with students at the drop of a hat if they need help. She encouraged me to apply for a competitive job that I was nervous about and offered to be my reference. She is one of the most caring and passionate educators out there.
Professor Gesler is truly a blessing to the school of nursing. During the semester she made sure to go out of her way to make sure students were receiving any help or advice they might need. She always made sure to ask our opinion on how the class is going and if we have any issues. She gives educating future nurses her all and deserves the well-earned recognition.
Dr. Gesler has given her whole heart to the education of nursing students. She has shaped me to become an amazing nurse. I appreciate everything she has done! -
John Gibson
Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesThis semester was the hardest semester I've ever gone through. I struggled with classes in ways I haven't before. Dr. Gibson made himself available many times to offer advice which provided me with direction and inspiration. He is also the best teacher I've had.
He is a wonderful professor that continuously engages and motivates his students in conversation to explore the world of philosophy. He provides a welcoming environment for students to feel comfortable discussing their thoughts on material and developing skills as young philosophers.
Dr. Gibson is literally an angel. It's obvious he loves what he does and truly cares about his students. He made this difficult semester easier to handle. He was very understanding and compassionate and did everything he could to be of help to us.
He was such an engaging professor and really was able to spread his passion onto all of us on the class
Professor Gibson was such a brilliant professor. He was super understanding about covid and continuously showed us that he genuinely cared for students.
Professor Gibson was one of the most kind and mindful professors I have ever had, especially during this really weird semester. He knew when things became too much, he knew when it was or wasn't an appropriate time to discuss more sensitive topics, he just always knew. He is outstanding. -
Grace Giesel
Brandeis School of LawProf. Giesel's structure of virtual class was the easiest to follow. She was also available for questions whenever anyone had a question. Many students were upset with various professors, but none were upset with her class. Lessons were practical, and easy to follow. -

College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Gittings was organized, knowledgeable, and passionate. He put in a lot of work and was a great communicator with frequent messages/feedback. Assignments let us choose something of personal/professional interest while achieving the SLOs. He even recorded a video campus tour since we couldn't do it in person. His course was challenging; I learned a lot and enjoyed it. -
Frank Goetzke
Urban and Public Affairs
College of Arts and SciencesI am especially nominating him for this award because it was the one classes that transitioned from in-person to online and I didn't feel stressed or that I had lost much from having the rest of the semester sessions online.
Frank was a very considerate educator who cared deeply about the success of every student in the course.
This man went above and beyond in helping us get through the semester. Very dedicated to his discipline and lots of interest in being an instructor. Highly recommend him as a professor.
Prof. Goetzke is an incredible professor who inspires his students to think critically, and to take a multi-disciplinary approach to every problem.
Frank made economic concepts comprehensible. He used real-life examples in class and made sure that we learn how interrelated the phenomena are and how we need to think deeper in analyzing urban problems that any of us will encounter throughout our careers. Doing so embedded the concepts in our minds. He deserves to be designated as a "Top nominee."
Dedicated to teaching and very passionate about what he does.
Professor is very challenging, with high expectations. Students are required to read primary materials. Professor is good at clarifying connections among materials. There is no make-work. Professor makes every effort to assist students to understand material but does not spoon-feed them.
Just an overall passionate professor and lovely human! I was so happy to take his class and learn so much. Looking forward to future classes with him! -
Stephan Gohmann
Economics
College of BusinessI have had a lot of amazing professors, but Professor Gohmann has been the best. I took his capitalism economics class this year and he had us learn and share about ideas we may not agree with, in a respectful and open-minded way. This encouraged participation and stronger more dynamic discussions that weren't single-sided and we learned more this way.
Professor Gohmann always made class fun and interesting even when the material itself was heavier. He valued every student's input during our lectures and made everyone feel heard. He created a safe environment to voice our opinions.
Professor Gohmann was great. He was always encouraging open and thought provoking conversations. I learned more from his class than any other one I have taken. It was definitely one of those classes that changes how I will view the world.
Great class. Professor Gohmann is an excellent mediator and knows how to spark interesting conversations regarding the topics covered. -
Matthew Goldberg
History
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Goldberg was an amazing instructor. He went out of his way to assist his students in any way possible. He made this semester a little bit easier just by being himself!
By far the best history class I've ever had. Even with that, the best and most fun history teacher I've ever had!
Very caring and is an amazing Professor! Lectures are interesting and very interactive.
Professor G is a rock star! He genuinely cares about his students' success and wellbeing, and he is so passionate about the content he teaches - can't think of anyone more deserving!
Professor Goldberg was considerate of his students during this unusual time, made class entertaining, and was extremely knowledgeable of every topic. I am a senior and have not had a better professor.
I absolutely loved Professor Goldberg. He's very understanding to students and also knows how to have a good time. He's also cracking jokes but also knows when to get back to work.
Professor Goldberg is very knowledgeable and forces the students to think. His classes are stimulating and fun. I love coming to his classes!
Professor Goldberg is the best professor I've had during my 3.5 years at UofL. He is very energetic, knowledgeable, and passionate about the course material. He also cares very deeply about his students and always made a conscious effort during quarantine to make sure we were doing well and still feeling confident.
Professor Goldberg is outstanding. His PowerPoint presentations are the best. His teaching style is to ask a lot of questions, which stimulates discussion, not only in class, but in the discussion boards. I am a veteran, and his knowledge and teaching of Military History exceeded my expectations.
Goldberg has by far been my favorite professor in college! His teaching is very informative, yet engaging at the same time. It is evident he truly cares about his students well being and overall success. He is the first and only professor I have had in college that actually knows my name and face when he sees me. This speaks volumes, especially in the midst of a pandemic.
As a freshman, it has been extremely hard to start my first year of college with Covid-19 going on, and without the traditional in-person instruction I was expecting. Professor Goldberg went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and it was a pleasure to be in his American History 1 class. Professor Goldberg truly cares about his students. -
Zachary Goldman
Management and Entrepreneurship
College of BusinessDr. Goldman has been an inspiring professor during my UofL experience. He is such an awesome teacher. He truly has a passion for what he teaches and truly cares about his students. He is a great leader and supports students at every opportunity.
Excellent teacher, communicator, organizer and motivator. He is a role model for all of us.
Dr. Goldman has taken time out of his day to answer every question I have asked about class and the MBA program as a whole in a timely manner. We have also had phone calls discussing things that would help me find an internship that would suit my needs, I know that if I am ever confused or have a question he will be able to answer it fast and accurately.
I cant find words to describe Dr. Goldman's commitment to students and their success. He embodies the care and compassion that a professor needs to have. He has been instrumental factor in ensuring our success. He deserves this acknowledgment. Please contact me as I would like to expand my comments further.
Zach has been a great asset as I pursue my OMBA. I enjoyed taking his class and feel I benefitted from the material and experience. AS the director of the OMBA program I have reached out to him for a number of reasons. He was always receptive and interested in my success. I appreciate his encouragement and perspective. -

College of BusinessHonestly the best professor I've ever had at UofL. Her franchising course was insightful and helpful but also was tied to the real world. She has been so accessible for in and out of class needs, and she goes out of her way to care for students and learn about who we are. Dr. G has had the most impact on me as a student and that impact will continue after college.
Dr. G made this semester for me as well as to her students I know. She clearly cares about her students, and that makes students care about her class.
She always tried to work with students and truly wanted to help them achieve as much as they could. -

Brian Guinn
Epidemiology
School of Public Health and Information SciencesProfessor Guinn helped me to adjust to graduate school. He inspired me and made me feel like I did belong. As the semester progress, he made sure all of his students knew that they are important. Regardless of grades, he pushed us to continually do our best and never give up.
He worked hard to make sure that we understood. His goal was not to test us into oblivion, but to help make sure that we understood the content.
Great strides to teach a difficult topic in an accessible way. Could attend virtual/in-class social distanced with masks/watch a recording after class. Epidemiology, difficult topic but we were given lots of opportunities to learn and engage with concepts. Very responsive, always checking in. Communicative and open to communication and feedback. Just a genuinely kind individual who wanted to see us do well.
Dr. Guinn has made this uncertain and difficult semester one of the best I have ever had. He cares about his students and his top priority is making sure that his students learn and excel. He has inspired me to take more classes in the field of Epidemiology, and I thank him so much for a great semester!
Professor Brian Guinn was a wonderful instructor who really showed his enthusiasm into Epidemiology, and Public Health, at large. I really enjoyed his classes and learned a lot with the assignments. He is very personable and shows students he cares about their academic experiences.
He just really went above and beyond this semester to make the transition to online classes and brand new classes a lot easier. He also became more than just a professor for a lot of us; he became a sorely needed mentor and confidant. 10/10 professor and all around awesome human being.
Dr. Guinn is so caring about his students. He truly believes in their success and will do whatever he can to help them. He is entertaining, interesting, relates what he teaches to the outside world, and always available. I loved his class and getting to know him this semester!

Ann Hall
Comparitive Humanities
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Hall made this semester bearable by being flexible, outlining our work and her standards from day one, and ensuing everything she did with kindness. I'm grateful she's a part of the UofL staff. -
Timothy Hall
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Hall has been great with assisting 1Ls during a pandemic. His hybrid course is almost "virtually" the same in person and at home (pun intended). He even is giving students an extra 30 minutes on the final for "interruptions". His class adaptation and technology choices for the pandemic law school experience has been the easiest transition of all other 1L classes.
He is an excellent and adaptive professor. Side note, I might have said yes to contacting me if I had known why you would.
He went above and beyond to make this COVID experience for first-year law students as seamless as possible. He spent the summer coming up with the best possible hybrid set up and was always available with questions and quick to fix anything that was less than helpful. I was so grateful that took that extra time, it made contracts my favorite class.
Professor Hall taught to all learning styles with and made sure to incorporate as much technology in his classes to help provide visuals and note-taking guides.
During such a chaotic semester, Professor Hall has been incredible. He's put in so much effort to make sure that everyone is on the same page, technology is working for everyone, and explains everything clearly. -
Muna Hammash
School of NursingDr. Hammash taught the Nursing Global Health class online this semester. Although he stuck very strictly to his grading system and the class is hard, he was very very caring and did everything possible to help his students succeed. He explained the material very well and is an amazing teacher and human being
Best chemistry professor I've ever had. The first to ever help me understand and enjoy chemistry.
This professor was extremely proficient in teaching a difficult topic. He provided in depth recorded lectures and held several office hours. He was thorough and extremely honest about the complexity of the topic but gave us optional practice to become more proficient. I liked his grading style and exam structure. -
Meg Hancock
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentThis professor never fails to bring energy into the classroom and is always willing to help her students.
Dr. Hancock goes above and beyond for her students and she always responds back with the quickness. She is passionate about what she teaches and she always makes sure that all of her students feel comfortable in whatever they are doing. I will miss her after this semester, but I know that her next group of kids will enjoy her so much. Go do great things, Dr. Hancock!
Dr. Hancock was my instructor last year, and now I work with her as a Student Success Ambassador. She is always so optimistic and helpful. She cares so much about her students and coworkers, and will often reach out to me just to check in and make sure I'm doing alright. -
Sachin Handa
Chemistry
College of Arts and SciencesI have been researching in Dr. Handa's laboratory since Fall 2019. In my time working with Dr. Handa, he has nominated me for a fellowship and got me published. This semester I have been applying to Ph.D. programs, Dr. Handa's guidance has opened many opportunities I couldn't have dreamed of. I can easily say that working with Dr. Handa has changed my life for the better.
Professor Handa has been such a great professor this semester. He has been very flexible and understanding of the difficulties associated with online learning, and he has offered numerous opportunities for student understanding and improvement. -
Stephen Hanson
Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Hanson has been one of the most down to earth professors I've had at UofL. Not only is he passionate about his subject, but he's equally driven to transfer that same passion to his students. It's a shame there was not a stronger push to keep him here at the university. -
Brandon Hardy
Management and Entrepreneurship
College of BusinessDr. Hardy is one of the best professors I think I've ever had in college. He makes class not only a joy, but makes sure students in his class get the help and attention they need. I know many people including myself find his teaching style is to be far more efficient and effective than the traditional method of lecturing course material to students.
Great teacher. Great demeanor. Really cares about his students. 10/10
From early on, it was very apparent that he values his students' success not only in the class, but also in our future careers. I would enjoy taking another course with him in the future if I were able. And if I couldn't personally take another, I would like to see him continue to teach courses because I know that he brings a lot to the classroom. -
Lamar Hardy
Theatre Arts
College of Arts and SciencesLamar was such a great professor to have this semester. In all the craziness that has gone on, he made a point to tell us our well-being is the most important and he made our learning environment fun, comfortable, yet efficient. I feel like he truly changed me for the better. -
Kathryn Harman
Health and Sports Sciences
College of Education and Human Developmentamazing professor! cares about whether her student actually learns or not, which is hard to come by sometimes
She is by far the best professor I've had here. She takes difficult material and somehow dumbs it down enough for our small brains to understand. She is extremely smart but never makes students feel dumb when asking a question. I tend to not ask questions in any other class except the ones I've been in with Harman. I have not heard a bad thing about her either.
Dr. Harman is everything you want a professor to be: dedicated, kind, understanding, knowledgeable, and always willing to go the extra mile. She makes some of the most difficult content areas easy to understand by taking the time to talk with students one-on-one to ensure that all of their questions are answered. If anyone deserves to be nominated it is her!
Dr. Harman is an amazing educator. I could not imagine taking this class with any other professor. Dr. Harman makes learning so relatable and easy for all her students. She does an amazing job of helping us in and out of the classroom whenever we need it. In the lab she answers all our questions, she always replies to emails quickly, and always had office hours available.
Made the semester a lot easier and taught me more than I have learned in any class I've ever taken. Between lab and biomechanics, I feel very prepared for future courses.
She has mastered the hybrid courses, having all the documents opened and having fun ways to teach us other than PP. I have a learning disability but she always tried to help me when I didn't understand. My experience with this class (even after failing) is the reason I'm still going to U of L. It gave me hope that I could learn the material and could succeed next time.
The best professor that I ever had in 4 years of college. very understanding and accessible
Dr. Harman is literally the best professor I've had here at UofL! She always makes sure her students understand the material and she wants to build relationships with her students. She's really there to help and I appreciate her.
Dr. Harman is a very understanding professor. She gives students the opportunity to get extra credit and offers extra help in her office hours. She responds very quickly to emails and this is greatly appreciated. She also is very quick with entering grades and this allows student to know where we sit in the class.
Professor Harman deserves so much credit for her work. She gives students every opportunity to learn while also challenging us. I am so thankful to have had her this semester because not only did she make me excited to learn, she also made expectations clear for her courses in a time when a lot of classes were confusing and unorganized.
Dr. Harman not only is a fantastic teacher in her subject matter, she also goes above and beyond and is constantly a go to for student who want some faculty mentorship and always knows her students personally.
Even in trying times she makes an effort to be the absolute best professor she can be. Professor Harman goes above and beyond in making sure her students succeed. It also makes me feel comfortable in the classroom to have a professor that genuinely cares about me as a person. I have a lot of classroom anxiety so it's a good feeling to feel comfortable in the classroom.
Professor Harman is definitely the best professor that I have ever had. She explains very well, it's notable her passion for the class and teaching which makes the class very easy to learn and understand the content lecture. She is always ready to help and understandable.
She is the best professor I have had at this university. She is constantly trying her best to teach the course and do it in a way to provide the students with the knowledge we need. She is easy to contact and very energizing in class with great energy. Her class is not easy but I am happy that she was the professor to get us through it.
Dr. Harman is a really great professor. The subject itself is difficult to grasp, but she makes it so much easier to understand. The way she teaches and her caring personality gives students a lot of room to do well in her class. She is honestly the best professor I've had thus far.
Kathryn Harman has been my professor for 2 classes now and she is an incredible spirit that motivates her students to perform well. She makes understanding anatomy and physiology easy while also providing the perfect blend of strict and easy in a professor. She continuously shows how much she cares about her students and how much she loves teaching!
Dr. Harman is truly a wonderful professor. Her ability to teach each and every student is second to none, and it is wonderful to have a teacher that cares not only about students' academic success, but cares about them as people. Dr. Harman's abilities as an educator are simply unmatched, and it has been a privilege to learn from her during my time here.
She has been the best professor I have ever had. She genuinely cares about every students success and wants to see everyone succeed. She met with me multiple times outside of class, through email, and even on zoom once to help me. Took time out of her own schedule to do so. She was encouraging and helpful and genuinely helped me learn more than I could have asked for.
She was always willing to help, is super smart, and all around made the class a good time even though it was challenging!
Great teacher who cares about the well being of her students
She was very helpful!
Dr. Harman goes out of her way to make sure that her students are well informed of the information, and teaches in many different ways to make sure everyone is understanding and does this with a positive attitude, punctuality, and always being prepared for class. She is VERY kind and genuinely inspiring, I'm so thankful to have had her as a professor these last few years!
No
Dr. Harman made a hard class enjoyable and easy to understand while also being able to interact with students safely to make class fun and enjoyable for students attending her class.
Dr. Harman displayed a masterful ability to teach students during her lectures, making her biomechanics class and anatomy lab class my most rewarding classes that I have taken in college.
Dr. Harman is hands down the best professor I've had here at Louisville. She goes above and beyond to make her classes enjoyable and very educational.
Dr. Harman is always super helpful, I love her teaching style. She always takes time to go around the room and ask students individually what they need help with. -

Dr. Harris is probably the most "keeping it real" professors I've had thus far in this program. She helps draw the parallels between what's in a book and what REALLY happens when we set forth with designing a program and ensuring it's appropriate for a targeted population. Truly enjoyed her course and look forward to the next evaluation. -

Besides the content taught in class Hartung is extremely personable and made the class a real joy to take. I will miss his class when the semester is over.
I've never had a mire understand professor. He is so enthusiastic about what he teaches, and his goals involve us to actually learn rather than focus on taking a test. Those are important, but the value I have gotten from being in his class are things that will stay with me lifelong in my profession! -

J.B. Speed School of EngineeringSuper kind and understanding. Showed passion during class and connected with students on a personal level. On top of all that, hilarious guy. Great person overall.
I had 2 incredible teachers this semester it was really hard to pick. But Dr. Hieb was consistently encouraging and accommodating to anything I needed this semester. I ended up not doing all that well in his class but that was entirely my own fault. He is helpful, goes the extra mile, feels like talking to a friend. I hope to take his classes again as many times as a I can.
He is a very caring professor. Who wants what's best for his students. He will go the extra mile to help a student and to help a student understand the content. He has been my favorite professor by far.

He is amazing. He is understandable, and he it is apparent that he wants to see everyone succeed.
No doubt the best teacher at the University of Louisville. Super flexible and wants the best for all of his students.
Professor Hieb is the best professor. He has been so understanding and kind while working with his students especially during this hard time. For a lot of classes it feels like we aren't learning and are too distant from the Professor. Professor Hieb has made me feel like I am one of his students and he is always there to help or respond to any questions. -

He is easily reached and responds quickly, explains things very well, and very funny. He also works well with the students around obstacles in a pandemic and otherwise. Loved learning from him.
Dr. Hong was the ONLY professor that figured out how to make quizzes WITHIN the Panopto recordings. It would pop up immediately after you finished watching the lecture. This helped me create structure and stay on schedule. I knew he would be able to see if and when I took the quiz or not. Isn't that what we all need right now? Accountability? Thank you Dr. Hong -
Rachel Hopp
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Hopp is, honestly, one of the most intelligent and caring professors that I have encountered here at UofL. She really wants her students to succeed. Overall, I know she had a tough semester with the passing of her father, but she did not let that interfere with her passion of teaching. Her father would be proud of her, and I am honored to have her as a professor.
Dr. Hopp is such an amazing professor! She made biology so great to learn! I cannot wait to take her next semester for anatomy!
I was worried about taking a Biology class coming into my first year amongst many other things. Dr. Hopp provided so many resources to students in order to help their grades and lessons. I was able to get tutoring help, attend PAL sessions, and office hours that she constantly reminded us we could do. I was able to end the semester off with an A which I am very proud of.
Dr. Hopp is a good professor! She is very knowledgeable of all the material and explains it in a great way
Most caring teacher I have had. Very smart and willing to work with you till you understand what you have done wrong and the material overall.
Professor Hopp was extremely helpful during such a hard semester. When I lost both of my grandparents this year she sympathized with me and encouraged me to keep working hard. She provided me with really helpful study tips and I don't think I could have made it through the class without her!
Dr. Hopp always made me feel important and she was truly invested in her students' education. She was willing to go the extra mile for any and every student.
Dr. Hopp is a great professor she teaches in a way where I can understand it. I can always tell that she wants all of us to succeed and I can always see the time she put into our learning.
This professor was willing to go above and beyond for her students and was extremely resilient during this difficult year. She provided a lot of resources for students and truly cared about the success of her students.

He delivered the content effectively. he explained the topics with examples and reasons. He urged us to think out of the box to implement the techniques of robust control in the real world.
Dr. Inanc was a very good professor this semester, and always put his student first.
His classroom presentation greatly simplified learning the material for me. He was always willing to make himself available for students and at the conclusion of the semester I felt confident not only that I'd learned the material, but also that he was instrumental in making that such a natural process.
Professor Inanc is a very caring teacher who takes the time to teach his materials well. He was quite adaptive to online classes and made allowances to students and changes to his material to promote success in his class. I very much enjoyed taking him this semester.

She teaches research, which is a difficult class and not something all social work students would excel in, but she makes it understandable. I have enjoyed having her as a professor!
Dr. Langley is not only an expert in her field but never spares a moment to provide an encouraging word, an extra explanation, or a mental health day to her students. This class was rigorous and well outside of my comfort zone but it truly was made enjoyable by Dr. Langley, even remotely. Please consider Dr. Langley! -

He has cared the most about students and worked the hardest to make sure that we are learning, and his course material and instruction clearly show that he is an expert in his field. He deserves this nomination for all his hard work to educate the students of UofL.
Clear communicator and genuinely nice and interesting guy.

Professor Levinson has gone above and beyond teaching us mostly asynchronously during this semester. She really cares about her students and our success. She keeps us updated and sends encouraging messages. She makes herself easily available as well.
Ultimately, although I would have loved to have Professor Levinson in person, she was my favorite Professor this year due to her creativity, kindness, and positivity online. Please consider her for this award! She deserves it!
Professor Levinson is extremely passionate about employment law, which makes each lecture and module interesting and enriching. She is very responsive and excited to discuss policy changes, potential improvements, and is always more than willing to help students in independent research.
Professor Levinson was very understanding and accommodating as we transitioned to online learning this semester. She constantly encourages us to reach out to her about our feelings and mental health, and seems like she is more concerned about us learning the content of her class than working us to death. I really appreciated her kind presence this semester.
Professor Levinson is one of the most thoughtful and caring professors I have ever had. When you plan to go to law school, you aren't expecting professors to really care. While I have been proven wrong by all of my professors at Brandeis, I have been the most so by Professor Levinson. She is the best and made this transition to hybrid learning seamless. -

College of Arts and SciencesDr. Moyer has been an amazing professor in these crazy times for the past two semesters that I have been in her courses. She is extremely dedicated to her students' success and makes content understandable and engaging. UofL is luck to have a professor with a huge heart like Dr. Moyer.
Dr. Moyer's Constitutional Law is incredibly engaging, organized, and well-communicated. She explains complex topics in an understandable manner that facilitates learning. Her exams are formatted better than any I've had - they engage critical thinking and are an excellent way to gauge learning. She's very supportive and kind to all students and encourages participation.
For someone who had very little background knowledge about constitutional law and the supreme court, Dr. Moyer made difficult content very understandable yet challenged her students to dig deep. Dr. Moyer genuinely cared for her student's learning. It was very obvious that Dr. Moyer is an expert in the field of law and an excellent conveyer of the information she teaches.
Dr. Moyer does an amazing job at making the content challenging but understandable. She's intentional with her lectures and helpful when it comes to assignments and exams. She makes complicated topics easy to digest so we don't feel overwhelmed by some of the more difficult sections of the course. She's my favorite professor that I've had and I wish I could take her again.
She is a highly intelligent and gracious professor that truly cares about not only the information taught but the students in her class. Her classroom is designed to allow us to truly study the content and learn in rather than simply memorizing it
Dr. Moyer is the most thorough professor I have taken at U of L. While her class is very intensive, her teaching style fosters real discussions and very interesting class periods. She has been by far my most understanding professor during this pandemic. I think she would be a great choice for this award. -

Robert Powers
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Powers has an enthusiasm for teaching not often found in the faculty at U of L. He cares more about his students learning than how hard his class is

I as a student work extremely hard to succeed. Dr. Powers reciprocates that enthusiasm. He is deeply committed to the success of his student. He is the best math teacher I have ever had.

Shira Rabin
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesAs we all know, this semester was full of challenges and stress. Although I understood that most of my classes had to turn to virtual, no teacher made more of an impact on my semester than Dr. Rabin. Her daily passion and engagement was truly unmatched by my other professors. I am very grateful to have professors at the University of Louisville like Dr. Rabin.
Dr. Rabin is a really nice professor ! She cares about her students and ensures that information taught throughout the semester is properly learned by her students .
Dr. Rabin made the most of the online class situation, ensuring to help her students in any way she could. Her use of real life applications for concepts brought a new level of understanding to the classroom.
Dr. Rabin made learning so much fun. I would recommend her to any biology student.
Despite difficult times, Dr. Rabin has gone above and beyond for her students! Taking Bio 240 with Dr. Rabin challenged me to think about biology in ways that relate to our world today. Her diligence in making content accessible to her students and being responsive to our learning needs and questions made this my favorite class this semester. Thank you so much, Dr. Rabin!
Dr. Rabin instructed my first college biology course, and it was my favorite all semester. I barely had any STEM background, yet I was able to learn so much from her. She clearly cares a lot about her students, her field, and effective education. Dr. Rabin is my favorite professor; I'm taking another one of her classes next semester!
The best teacher I had in my first semester at U of L. She was always open to questions and concerns about the content as well as due dates and such. Her lectures were also very interactive and encouraged discussion and participation. Most importantly, I could tell she truly cared about her students and their success.
Professor Rabin's BIOL 240 class this fall was my favorite class I've taken here at UofL as well as one of the best organized courses I've completed. Rabin made it clear exactly what information we needed to know, where to find it, as well as making sure every assignment had a purpose and was beneficial to building our understanding of the material. -

She teaches a hard course, so many students are challenged but she will help anyone who just asks. She has told me many times she is proud of me and it means the world to me. She has been one of the most helpful professors during my first year of college.
Dr. Ralston, even with all the obstacles and struggles of learning and teaching online, has a sincere care and dedication to her students. She is the reason I came to UofL.
Dr. Ralston has done everything in her power to ensure students can conquer calculus. When she isn't able to do the best she can for students she tries her best to make our next class better than the previous.
.
Dr. Ralston has put the students first in all things. She cares for us incredibly much and it's been extremely sad for me to see how students' lack of participation has affected her. Nonetheless, she shows those students who put forth the effort so much love every time we see her. She has provided a consistent and rigorous schedule that has made every student better!
Cares about students Works hard to offer in-personPuts in tons of extra time to cater to variety of student styles during these times
I've never had a professor who cares about her students and subject like Dr. Ralston. Her door was always open if we needed any help and she would spend extra time working a single problem over and over if even the slightest detail was unclear. It was evident that she cared about our success and was truly in our corner.
Dr. Ralston really cares about her students, the difficulty of the material just pushes us to reach our potential. -

Mohan Rao

School of MedicineDr. Rao is the finest and most committed educator I have had the opportunity to learn from. He "gets it" when it comes to ensuring we get the most out of our Surgery rotation whether it is giving us autonomy, involving us in every case even if the table is crowded, or getting to know us beyond simply as the students on his service. I consider him my most influential teacher. -

Professor Rengers really cared for all of her students during this pandemic. She always made it clear that if we were overwhelmed with other classes or just life that we could reach out to her and she would do all she could for us. Che Rhodes

College of Arts and SciencesChe Rhodes has dedicated countless hours of his time at the Cressman Center this semester aiding students in understanding methods in glass and making the best of the situation the pandemic has placed us in. He is an incredibly caring and dedicated individual who single-handedly supports the glass program at UofL and is quite literally always there to help students. -
Thomas Riedel
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesI enjoyed Calculus 1, which is an obvious bias, but he constantly tried to help students understand the material, even without someone asking a question. He also almost always responded to emails within an hour or two, if not immediately, if he was messaged before 8pm. This shows me, at least, that he goes above and beyond my average instructor this Semester.
I'm sure anyone would agree, anyone who has taken his class or worked with him in the tutoring or TA programs would say he's not only a great teacher but a great guy as well!

College of Arts and SciencesDr. Roebuck always goes the extra mile to ensure everyone is comfortable while simultaneously fostering an environment for learning. She's very supportive in every way and you can tell she wants what's best for her students.
Professor Roebuck handled online learning very well. I can understand how teaching online can be just as difficult as learning online. In Roebuck's class, virtual learning felt very similar to how my Spanish classes in person used to be. It was nice to have the same structure that I was used to. It made learning so much easier! -
David Roelfs
Sociology
College of Arts and SciencesProf. Roefls made his class so understandable in a way that would be equally appreciated by both beginners and intermediate users of the STATA software
He truly cares about student learning, and has been very flexible and helpful during the pandemic. He organized a weekly "FIKA Tuesday" meeting to help support grad students/offer advice on navigating academia. He makes time to meet with students one-on-one. This is my 1st year in the grad program, and I'm not sure I would be nearly as successful without his support!
Dr. Roelfs makes statistics understandable and enjoyable. He has recorded over 30 lectures to make this a flipped classroom. Dr. Roelfs' assignments allow us to see our progress week by week. He is exceedingly approachable and helpful. Dr. Roelfs goes out of his way to help us succeed by making time for individual communication and meetings outside of class time.
Thanks to Dave's teaching style, thorough explanations, and genuine drive to ensure understanding, quantitative modeling was considerably less daunting and painful than it needed to be. Dave's help was instrumental in my success and he's also extremely personable. He tricks you into enjoying stats. I hope he wins - he really deserves it. -

As a student, you feel pushed to learn and try out new competencies, feel supported in doing so and gain valuable feedback that helps you to improve. He's great at building confidence and keeping lessons fun and engaging through a variety of activities
A great guy and a better professor. He manages to make online class fun and involved.
Dr. Running is one of the most knowledgeable professors at UofL. He is incredibly gracious with his time, allowing students to contact him any time with questions. His lectures are broken up with short jokes that help relieve stress and his class time is used to solidify unit knowledge. I always feel comfortable reaching out for help because I get in-depth answers quickly.
Currently, I am enrolled in his BIOL 443 course. I am content to be able to begin and end my undergraduate college journey with his support on my side. UofL is extremely lucky to have faculty as excellent as him. I consider him a wonderful role model and a friend. College of Arts and SciencesThis was a stressful year+ and this instructor's organization and patience made the classes less stressful.
Dr. Salmon was amazing and made online coursework engaging, which is a difficult feat. He made sure to send us an announcement via blackboard almost everyday and everyday we had an assignment due. It was incredible to feel like a professor was genuinely rooting for students and wanted them to succeed at every turn. -
Gustavo Machado Santaella
Oral Radiology
School of DentistryDr. Santaella is an excellent instructor. He has stayed late many evenings to help us with our competencies in oral radiology. He is always sure to put us at ease when he can to calm our anxieties. I was nervous during a competency in his class. He had comforting words that helped us to be at ease and do our best! I could not imagine a better faculty favorite.
Dr. Santaella (and Dr. Scarfe) were so wonderful in their handling of the pandemic. He never made any of us feel stressed when a rotation had to moved around or when we simply could not figure out how to position the X-ray sensor the right way. He always had a smile on his face and was ready to help! It was actually really fun being in the radiology clinic!
Due to Covid, one of our summer classes had to be finished in the spring and the amount of extra time Dr. Santaella spent helping us finish the course and rearranging schedules to get practice time deserves recognition. He moved our competency in order to make sure our group was able to have equal practice. The whole Oral Radiology Department deserves recognition!!!
Dr. Santaella went above and beyond, staying after hours and working around all our schedules, to get all of us through our radiology rotations/competencies. He cares about us more than any other faculty in my opinion!
He adapted really well to the online format and has made so many accommodations for us! When we came back in person he had the hands on part very well organized and worked so hard around our other schedules to make our rotations work! He also worked with students if they ever had any concerns, issues or questions. We appreciate his hard work!!
Dr. Santaella has gone above and beyond as a course director the entire year. He's done everything he can to help our class learn the material and become competent in radiology by adapting well to online and remaining flexible with scheduling. It is evident he cares so much about the students in the school, their education, and their overall wellbeing.
A professor I have no doubt cares about teaching, he has been so helpful over CODID schedules and truly has students bests interests at heart. He helped us so much as a class and gave up his free time after hours to help us. -

My impression based upon my most recent, and sole experience in the Fall of 2019: she has been the best instructor in my years as a student at any institution as a transfer. Engaged us on Blackboard EVERY time. She mastered the art of online learning PRIOR to the pandemic. Kind, wise, and respectful, gathered through contextual exchanges of emails. Great online presence. I admire her.
Dr. Shriner did a phenomenal job of making the most of an online course. It was the first class I felt a genuine connection with both class and staff, which made all the difference in my semester. She gives honest and constructive feedback, while also taking an interest in your work. She even did my letter of recommendation for Kent School, which was an honor! -

J.B. Speed School of EngineeringAn awesome and understanding professor. Great material presented, challenging material but overall awesome class that he teaches (CSE 545). I put in a lot of work this semester but felt like I learned a lot.
Dr. Yampolskiy is the beat! He is incredibly knowledgeable in his field and also very understanding of students needs and willing to work with student to help them succeed.
Dr. Yampolskiy is the most incredible teacher I have ever had. He transferred his passion for AI to all of us and his desire to further the field. After taking his class, I feel like I can change the world through good science and original research. I can not recommend him more highly.
I absolutely love the way he structured my class and he taught everything in such a way that it was easy to understand, yet still rigorous enough to be a challenging class. I have rarely learned as much in a class as I have in this one out of my 3 years of being in college.
The best professor on campus!
This is my second graduate program and I haven't had a professor I enjoyed working with as much as Dr. Yampolskiy. What sets him apart from his peers is his passion for the subject matter and drive to help his students not only succeed, but excel. He's the obvious thumbs up here.
I enjoyed my time in his class. He was always very helpful and made the experience fun.
He is very the kindest professor I've had at UofL. He makes a great effort in connecting with his students, and making sure everyone is understanding the material. He is super accessible, and always responds to emails incredibly fast. He always is looking for new ways to improve our understanding of the material. He is an all-around top professor.

Dr. Yampolskiy, was extremely knowledgeable, always willing to help out, responded to questions quickly and was overall an outstanding professor. He is above and beyond what you expect for a college professor.

Steve Yanoviak
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesI believe Dr. Yanoviak deserves to be recognized for his dedication to his students and the course during this challenging time. He encouraged students to push themselves and do their own research throughout the semester, which was extremely unique and effective in learning real-world techniques. -
Marissa Yingling
Kent School of Social WorkProfessor Yingling held us accountable throughout the semester and I learned so much from her to prepare me for the social work field. -
Deborah Yoder-Himes
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Yoder-Himes is by far the best professor I have had here at UofL. She is very knowledgeable in her field, and taught Microbiology in such a fun, interesting way even though it is a hard class. She goes above and beyond to help and reach out to every student, and has a genuine interest in her students and whether or not they understand the content laid out before them.
I can say nothing but wonderful things about Dr. Yoder-Himes. During such an odd semester, she showed each student compassion while maintaining rigor. She truly cares about her students and does a terrific job teaching a difficult topic. Dr. Yoder-Himes even started a COVID-19 journal club with students to discuss scientific research! She is truly in a league of her own.
Dr. Yoder-Himes is a phenomenal professor for my BIOL 457: Microbiology course. Dr. Yoder-Himes works hard to simplify challenging topics for her students and is dedicated to helping her students learn. -
Paul York
School of MusicMr. York has changed my life over the past four years. He is the reason I chose to study music and come to UofL; this year has presented a particular challenge to the School of Music, and he's turned the tables and made it an opportunity for growth in new and uncharted directions. Thank you Mr. York!!!
One of the most positive professors I've met. Really helped adapt the curriculum so students could learn valuable skills throughout the semester. -
Moses Young
School of NursingDr. Young really made the semester enjoyable. I looked forward to attending clinical every week because he was able to related what we had been studying to the real world. I would recommend him to any prospective student not because he's easy but because he will put you in positions that challenge you and force you to learn. -
Francis Zamborini
Chemistry
College of Arts and Sciencesnice and friendly instructor -
Jianhua (Andrew) Zhao
Anthropology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Zhao was, by far, my favorite instructor from this fall semester. I learned a great deal about a culture I have always held in fascination and it was thanks to his lectures and class discussions along with the assigned readings and films. -
Weihua Zhao
Economics
College of BusinessHer class was amazing, one of the best economics classes I've taken (I'm an Econ major). She helped us adapt to the weird Covid semester, always asked us ways how she can make the format better for us, and whenever we needed help or clarification, she never hesitated to take time for us. She is a great professor and I will take another one of her classes. -
Charles Zimmerman
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesCharles is a great instructor, caring professor, open minded and taught me a lot throughout this semester. One of the first classes I actually wanted to be at and woke up excited for almost every week -
Jozef Zurada
Information Systems, Analytics and Operations
College of BusinessProfessor Zurada was EXTREMELY accommodating during this unusual semester. He always provided meeting times to go over material (even when he was living in Poland for part of the semester!). He is a great professor, and one of the nicest faculty members. I never actually had any one-on-one contact with him, but I felt that he would always be available if I needed. -
