Matt Bergman
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Bergman is, in my opinion, exactly what every college professor should be. Without his support and encouragement there is no way I would've completed my degree. My success is a direct result of his inspiration and encouragement!
Matt has made a lasting impact on my life and the life of my family. His willingness to be available and fully engaged in the academic and personal development of his students is unlike any other educator I have ever experienced. I am grateful for his leadership and investment in me.
Very engaged in the overall success of the program and is an inspiration to many!
Outstanding mentor, professor, and professional.
Dr. Bergman is an excellent professor and advisor. He was the motivating factor for me to return to the University of Louisville for my MSHROD after receiving my BS in Occupational Training and Development 10 years earlier!!!
I attended the University from 2010-2014 as an adult learner. I was hesitant and somewhat embarrassed to be starting over. Like many, I started college right out of high school but didn't finish. Having an instructor and a leader such as Matt made my learning and completion of my degree one of the most memorable experiences in my life. I can not tell you how often I would reach out to him via phone or email seeking advice and or support. Without his support I am not sure I would have stuck with it. He is deserving of this honor and many more in my opinion.
Dr. Bergman has been instrumental in introducing me to the CEHD Master's Program and helping me chart my path forward in parallel with my work responsibilities. The department would be missing an integral component in the absence of Dr. Bergman.
Dr. Bergman has opened the door and enabled so many adult students to complete their degrees and better their careers and lives for themselves and their families. His actions show his heart is in his work of seeing these successes. Thank you Dr. Bergman!
I have known Matt for a decade and have gone through both the BS and MS programs in OLL. He was my initial advisor in 2009 and has been there without fail, not only for myself but for many others in the program. His dedication to adult learning and the education of life-long learning is beyond reproach. Matt takes instruction in higher education to the next level and is the reason behind student success.
Such an awesome teacher. He is always willing to work with his students and is really easy to talk to! I truly enjoyed taking his class as well!
I had the pleasure of having Dr. Bergman last semester and he was amazing! He is dedicated to his class and made learning the material fun and also captivating.
Professor Bergman has been tremendously helpful in my time at U of Louisville. He has been both very understanding and a good mentor. He's guided me along my path, been very helpful when I've hit obstacles, always made himself available when I needed assistance, and always been encouraging about my talent and skills in this program. He's reassured me and supported me in more ways than I can recall or that I deserve. I don't know that I'd be graduating without him.
Matt was very instrumental in helping me with continuing in my adult education at the University of Louisville. I had one of my first consultations with Matt about joining U of L. I was fortunate to take a couple of his classes. I know it's people like Dr. Matt Bergman that go out of their way to provide the best college opportunity for adult learners. This is why he's my "Top" nominee for faculty favorite.
Dr. Bergman has changed the trajectory of my life's path!
Words cannot begin to express the gratitude that I feel when I think of Dr. Matt Bergman. Many people understand the struggle that adult students have when they return to school. Family, jobs, and other commitments but Matt Bergman is the epitome of a staunch supporter! He goes above and beyond to assist students to make sure their academic journey is a successful one. It might sound cliché to say but I truly wouldn't be a graduate of the University of Louisville without the help, support, advocacy, and overall kindness of Dr. Bergman. You rock!
Dr. Bergman is both the face and the heart behind the Organizational Leadership and Learning Department in the CEHD at UofL. He is kind, smart, professional, and, most of all, enthusiastic about adult learning.
Where to begin... I graduated in 2014 and I am continually amazed at Dr. Bergman's ability to help, teach and reach others. He has a passion for adult learners and as an adult learner who decided to go back to school as a 40+, wife, mom and full time worker, I cannot imagine my journey of going back to school without Dr. Bergman. His support and passion to help others has made a lasting impression on me and I'm sure all who have the fortunate opportunity to cross paths with him. Please let me know if you need any additional details. Thanks so much!
He is an amazing champion of adult learners!
Dr. Bergman is responsible for the fact I will be graduating in less than a month. His hard work for our Veterans and all students is top notch. UofL is lucky to have him. -
Paul Clark
School of NursingDr. Clark is awesome, he teaches us very well and helps the students when needed. He is always there for the students. He emailed us so many times almost every day to check on us during these difficult times. He is the real Professor that UofL always needs. I heartily appreciated whatever he did for us in this semester. I hope he will know this, we really appreciated him.
One of the best professors/instructors I have ever had. Encourages me and gives me confidence as a new nurse.
Very helpful in my transition into upper division.
He is the best.
Professor Paul Clark has made an impact on my college career as well as my future nursing career by not only being a well thought out, insightful professor, but by also being a great inspiration of the nurse I want to be one day. He has given me as a student and future professional a great look into what it means to be a great nurse, how supportive the community of nurses can be, and how to be prepared for every situation that a nurse comes across. I feel confident that with his guidance through class and advice about his profession, I will be the best nurse that I can be.
Dr. Clark has made learning material fun and interactive. His bubbly personality and eagerness for us to succeed makes a scary class fun to come to and easy to excel in.
He is such an engaging teacher, I enjoy knowing he is going to lecture and learning the content. He presents the content in a way that is memorable, while combining stories that keep your interest.
Dr. Clark personally worked with me to facilitate my interest in the research world. He actively went out of his way to demonstrate and explain concepts and helped me better understand the research process. All the while, with an infectiously positive attitude. He is an icon on the School of Nursing campus and leaves a lasting impression on all those around him.
Paul Clark is not only an incredible teacher but also person. He shows so much love and passion for all of his students and other faculty members
Amazing professor!
Amazing instructor! Truly cares about his students and their learning.
Dr. Clark is extremely helpful. He is always respectful, kind, encouraging, and positive. This semester was the second time I had him as a professor and he was always willing to go the extra mile to help with whatever I needed. His passion for nursing is evident in everything he does and I believe he is a worthy recipient for this award.
Dr. Clark has been my favorite professor at the School of Nursing by far! He makes learning enjoyable and exciting!
Dr. Clark has such an uplifting personality that consistently kept us engaged in class before the start of online learning. Since this began, he never failed to send encouraging messages to lift our spirits and help get us through the remainder of the semester.
Professor Clark is a genuine teacher. He wants everyone of his students to succeed. He is personable and makes learning fun.
Dr. Clark did an outstanding job not only keeping his students engaged during course instruction; but, ensuring his students felt heard, cared for, and able to raise concerns.
Paul Clark has been extremely helpful this semester. He has a very positive attitude which makes school much more enjoyable. -
Melissa Groenewold
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Groenewold has been a great Spanish teacher. Her lessons are easy enough to learn but difficult enough to challenge you to become fluent. I really enjoyed taking her class for the first time this semester and look forward to taking her for my next two semesters here at UofL. Profesora Groenewold is a great Spanish teacher who always has a positive attitude and a smile to brighten your day!
She's a very motivational and charismatic professor.
She is an excellent professor and taught me a useful language.
I think Dr. Groenewold was an extremely motivated instructor and she worked very hard to keep the class engaged and communicating with each other. The coronavirus pandemic made things a little inconvenient, but Dr. Groenewold responded efficiently and didn't let it hinder a thing. She was great!
Snra. Groenewold has always been so kind and patient with her students, especially those who had little to no prior experience with Spanish. I was always excited to go to her class because I could tell that she wanted to be there too, a rarity among some professors. I'm going to miss her class, and I hope to make her proud through my journey of learning a new language.
Professor Groenewold was very engaging from the first day of class and made it seem okay to make mistakes when learning another language. What was most important to her was what you learned from your mistakes. With previous doubt for myself from dropping a previous foreign language course, she made me want to learn when I had a hard time believing in myself.
Melissa goes above and beyond what most professors do in class. She is always making her students interact and submerge themselves in the language. She has made my learning experience fantastic because she makes learning fun again and all students need that.
She is such a good teacher and encouraged us to learn and pushed us to do our best. She made learning so much fun and did really well when having to switch to online class.
Prof. Groenewold is the first professor that actually wanted interaction among students. She helps people new to Spanish learn the language and wants to see us succeed. She does not just lecture us. She uses interactive learning to help everyone equally.
The way her lessons were set up helped us to retain the most information with the least amount of stress. She was very accommodating when issues with missing class, tests, etc. arose and was always checking in on us and our learning. She handled the transition to online classing very well and didn't miss a beat when it came to teaching us what needed to be learned.
She is a really great instructor. She did a really nice job making class an enjoyable interactive way to learn Spanish.
Professor Groenewold, has spent the whole semester helping us learn the Spanish language and culture in a fun, interactive environment. Even amidst the COVID19 changes, she kept her class upbeat and was quick to find a solution for our class schedule. I am looking forward to having her as a professor in my next Spanish course!
Professora Groenewold is a great instructor!
Mrs. Groenewold goes out of her way to make sure students aren't only succeeding, but learning. She puts a lot of hard work into making sure students are participating and dedicating 100% while in class.
Great instructor!
Melissa Groenewold always goes the extra mile for her students. She is very helpful and very understanding. She deserves the favorite faculty reward! -
Megan Shreffler
Health and Sports Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentMakes class enjoyable. A professor that creates a constructional relationship with her students.
She is a amazing professor. she was teaching course which are really clear and she made the course more easily to understand. I have felt that take this course is my best choice in my life.
She's by far my favorite professor this semester. She makes class fun and interesting and keeps us engaged.
She puts her students first she wants them to be successful and really goes out of her way to have her students succeed. Wish more professors were like Dr. Shreffler because she's amazing.
She goes above and beyond for her students and comes to class enthusiastic every time!!
She was great and really easy to learn from
She has a positive attitude each day, shares family moments throughout the class relating to the lecture, passes around candy to get everyone ready for the lecture. Very considerate on assignments and gives quality feedback within a good time frame. Very nice to meet outside of class and hang out during their department events for the students.
Professor Shreffler makes her courses captivating, even to those with little sport knowledge. She opens the world of Sports Administration to her students and uses current real life examples in her teachings! The relationship she forms with her students is unmatchable by any other professor I have had at The University of Louisville. She made me feel like more than a number in a classroom and noticed when I was gone and that made me that much more eager to attend her class every day!!
Shreffler is one of the best professor's I've had here at UofL because of her ability to use humor in class and build meaningful relationships with her students while also giving effective lectures in which she clearly demonstrates her expertise on the material. The classes she teaches aren't my favorite subjects, but she makes them engaging with in-class activities and just her personality to make me successful and enjoy myself.
Dr. Shreffler has been my favorite teacher in the SPAD program since my freshman year. I've had her twice now and I can say those classes have been my favorites in the program so far. She is extremely organized and knows how to keep a class engaged no matter what the subject matter is. Sport sales has never been something I've had any interest in, but she still knows how to make the class exciting and interesting. I can tell she genuinely cares for her students and consistently makes it a task to remember our names and minuscule details. There's nothing negative I could say about Dr. Shreffler, she has done nothing but allow me to enjoy my major and the stuff we learn in class.
Dr. Shreffler, comes into class every morning with great energy. During her lectures she is always able to provide real world references to help my peers and I develop a deeper and more memorable understanding.
She was hilarious in her lectures and always found ways to get us talking even when the classroom was dead silent. Material was challenging but she found a way to make it entertaining and applicable.
Professor Shreffler's class is very engaging and her use of videos to illustrate key points is helpful. I didn't think I could enjoy a sports ethics class as much as I did this semester. My fav teacher and I love her! She has helped me get through a lot
Professor Shreffler is one of the most understand ing and personab le person and teacher. Always looking forward to ta king a class with her
Professor Shreffler was work ing on her tenure this semester but even with additional tasks she was always open to help and discuss any questions that I had. She is funny she is smart and she is helpful. There was not a time when I came to her with a question and left with unanswered one.

Mikus Abolins-Abols
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Abols is very new to the university; in fact, I think that this is his first year teaching. He has done a really great job adjusting our cellular molecular biology class from an in-person lecture to online sessions. He has been dedicated to sending students helpful videos, lectures, and office hour collaborations. -
Jamie Abrams
Brandeis School of LawProf. Abrams is the most caring and kind professor I've ever had. She ensures that we learn and have fun doing so. I am a better person and student having been in her class.
She not only offers help for students academically, but she has been a rock for me emotionally and mentally. She believed in me after getting straight Cs my entire first year, helped me grow as a student, and I received an A with her for the first time in law school, all because she cared enough to help guide me and give me personalized, individual assistance.
Jamie Abrams has always committed so much time to caring for, listening to, and helping students, but she has gone above and beyond during this pandemic. She provides stability, comfort, and clarity in a time of uncertainty, always prioritizes her classes, and cares about not only how we're doing in class but how we're doing in life.
Jamie Abrams is one of the best instructors I've ever had and she is a credit to the Law School. The University of Louisville is lucky to have her.
Professor Abrams goes above and beyond for her students. She is available at all hours of the day to answer any and all questions! She commutes back and forth between Washington D.C. and here because she has a passion for educating her students. She is an amazing professor.
She is an incredible professor who truly cares about students as individuals and as future attorneys.
Professor Abrams would do anything to help her students. After telling her about my internet connectivity issues and my fear of slipping behind, she told me she would teach classes again just to me or host private study sessions if it would help me keep up. Abrams extends this energy to the whole class which is a testament to her supportive classroom environment. -
Leslie Abramson
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Abramson has always been a beloved professor at Brandeis and it's not difficult to see why. Abramson brings both a rich knowledge and a wicked sense of humor to the classroom. More so, Abramson is friendly and accessible outside of the classroom. Abramson is willing to sit, talk, make you laugh, and give you any help you need. -
Wil Abshier
Comprehensive Dentistry
School of DentistryDr. Abshier is such a joy to have around. He has been an awesome addition to the dental school. He is so helpful, friendly, gives good advice, and interacts well with everyone. He definitely deserves the Faculty Favorite award around here!
Dr. Abshier has played a pivotal roll in our dental education here at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. Dr. Abshier is a new faculty member and spearheaded directing and teaching The Class of 2022s Pain and Anxiety course. This is a very important course because it teaches us the foundations of dental anesthesia and anxiety management, being able to make our patients comfortable during their procedures is critical to our success and Oral Health Providers. Normally this course is taught in the rising 3rd year summer for dental students, but our class was given the opportunity to take it our rising 2nd year summer, this is a big deal and Dr. Abshier taught our class flawlessly. He truly cared about our education and the comfort and care of our future patients. I have interacted with Dr. Abshier in the DMD Clinic and also in other classes and can confidently say he is one of the rising stars of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry's World Class Faculty, and it is only his first year!
Great instructor, willing to help, really cares so you can tell he's in it for the right reasons. -
Said Abusalem
School of NursingDr. A has been one of the most genuine and caring professors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He is loved by current and former students. I had the opportunity to take his class in my Bachelors program, and then again this semester as a Doctoral student. I would like to recognize his commitment to his students and willingness to help out and listen to their (our) needs. "Are you with me?" -
V. Joshua Adams
English
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Adams is engaging, passionate, open-minded, patient, and detail-oriented. Although he sees dozens of dozens of students each day, he makes each feel valued and intelligent. I love Adams's classes because they are discussion-based, comfortable, and incredibly interesting. He's the reason I'm an English Literature minor, and my only regret is that I did not take more classes with him in my undergraduate time. -
Sharmin Akter
Chemistry
College of Arts and SciencesGreat teacher. -
Khaldoun Almousily
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesI have had Professor Almousily for 2 semesters and out of all the courses I have taken, I have learned the most from his courses. He turns an intimidating class into a fun and exciting class. I love that he really cares about the students and their future and never fails to show that.
Professor Almousily is one of the best professors I've ever had. He has made learning Arabic fun and easy compared to what I was expecting. He is fun, energetic, and great at teaching. He has helped me really figure out what I want to do in the future just from his daily classes. I look forward to continuing to take his classes for as long as possible.
His teaching style while physically in class, and his communication through this crisis, is keeping me going and encouraged for future classes with him.
Professor Almousily has a different philosophy than most professors at UofL. He wants to ensure students in college do not stress about everything. Humor and stories are key to maintaining student engagement. The professor's enthusiasm and real-world examples made a very difficult language easy and entertaining.
He is an engaging professor who makes learning fun!
Enjoyable class with a focus on learning the language alongside the culture.
He is the best.
Professor Almousily's instruction style empowers students and allows them to learn in a way that is fun and exciting. Khaldoun always has such a contagious positive attitude toward learning Arabic that students cannot help but to have fun while learning. Khaldoun also makes himself available outside of class time to help students master the language. For example, he arranges conversation tables, encourages students to go to office hours, and assigns group work so you build connections with other students in the class.
Without his helpfulness and directness, the class would have been more challenging.
Khaldoun's positive attitude is contagious.
He is the absolute best! He challenges us to learn while making it fun. He tells interesting stories that help you learn and never forget the language as well as general knowledge about the Middle East.
He is a really great professor and shows concern for his students and even knows how to make a great joke. -
Nihat Altiparmak
Computer Science and Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringThough the class was challenging, I really love how professor Altiparmak structured his class. He lays everything out in such a way that there would be no ambiguity.
Effective teaching in difficult subject matter. Portrayed enthusiasm for the subject and for student engagement! -
Jennifer Anderson

College of Arts and SciencesDr. Anderson is patient and kind to her students, and she is always accepting of feedback and does her best to make her class accessible and exciting. -
Asaf Angermann
Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Angermann is an exceptional professor, not only in his pedagogy and grasp of content, but also how he shows up and supports his students. I've learned a lot in his class on critical social theory, and it's apparent he respects and cares for his students as learners and human beings. VERY deserving of accolades.
Professor Angermann has done an excellent job teaching Critical Social Theory this semester. This area of philosophy is notoriously difficult to study, especially for students without prior philosophical training. Despite this, Dr. Angermann's lectures have helped illuminate these concepts within myself and the other students in the class, many of whom are not philosophy majors. This class has been an excellent academic experience filled with group discussion, contemplation, and meaningful writing assignments. In addition to his academic excellence, Dr. Angermann truly cares about his students and has been extremely accessible for further instruction, guidance on assignments, and philosophical discussion. This class has opened my mind up to new concepts and areas of inquiry that I may have never explored if I had not taken Dr. Angermann's course. My only regret is that since I am graduating this semester, I will not be able to take any more of his classes! -

We could text her or call her or just send an email and she was always there. She helped us all succeed this semester by leveling with us all on personal and professional matters. Jeffery Baker
Emergency Medicine
School of MedicineDr. Baker does an incredible job teaching ultrasound and other clinical skills to students going into emergency medicine and the other students completing their ambulatory rotations in the ED. This year he transformed the EM intern boot camp from a hands on instructional experience to a great online format to adapt to the challenges from COVID-19.
Dr. Baker has been a great mentor and teacher for all students interested in emergency medicine. His ultrasound teaching was phenomenal and useful for away rotations. I really enjoyed his time with us and lectures during our emergency medicine boot camp sessions as well. He is eager to help, his enthusiasm and passion for emergency medicine is infectious.
When COVID-19 messed up our in-person EM Bootcamp plans, Dr. Baker worked hard to make sure we would still have a great EM Boot camp experience and be prepared to start intern year. Even though we couldn't do in-person simulations, he videoed them from his home and showed us step by step how to do certain procedures.
Dr. Baker has been an excellent clinical teacher! When I rotated through the ED he always took time to teach. Dr. Baker did an excellent job organizing the EM Intern Bootcamp for the fourth year medical students as an online elective due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This class could have been cancelled, but Dr. Baker made sure that the class went out and we were educated. -

We talk about things that range from what his class is doing this week to what I'm doing in my classes. He always calms me down when I'm having my mental breakdowns. He is a great dad, a great friend, a great teacher, and he inspires me to find a job I generally enjoy going to every day. He loves teaching at the university so much. He drives about an hour every day for the past 20 plus years to do what he loves. -
Karen Battoe

College of Arts and SciencesHer care for her students, the moral support she provided us during a time that was rocky for everyone, was above and beyond. She did everything she could to support our goals in class and to make sure each student was okay.
Prof. Battoe was very helpful when we had to switch everything online. She is one of the only professors who asked if we had everything we needed and if we were doing okay. We already had a big switch this semester - Prof. Battoe handled that change just as well. Prof. Battoe to me has been the most helpful person by far during this whole situation. -

I hope that I can take one of his classes again in the future or participate in any other activities to be involved with his work. He has nourished me with knowledge not only regarding English, but also how a writer should think and write to really engage their audience. He is very culturally aware and much more. Nominate Dale!

Brian Buford
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Buford (and his aid) have an outstanding method for teaching the multicultural issues course. Their out-of-the box thinking, choice of course material, open and honest classroom setting, and encouragement of 'self' is unlike any class I've ever taken. Each class, we were encouraged to not only learn the material, but apply it to ourselves and our daily lives. This method of instruction was pure to say the least and the material I learned will forever be with me. For that, I am grateful.
Brian Buford taught the Multicultural Issues course I was enrolled in this semester. The experience has stood out as one of my favorite courses in my graduate school career. Brian has the unique ability to hold space for every individual's experience in the room, and his respect for others is second to none. He has truly made me feel heard and understood, while simultaneously challenging me to think broader and more inclusively. I can't say enough wonderful things about him! -

I'd recommend every art student make a point to take one of her courses! -
Daniel Canon
Brandeis School of LawDan Canon is the only professor I have had in my 18 years of education who has gone above and beyond for his students. He treats students as his (soon-to-be) peers and fosters a respectful and welcoming learning environment. I cannot speak his praises enough.
Professor Canon's classes demand that not only do you learn the skill or the content, but you think about how you would actually use it in court. From reminding us not to get too smart with the judge during 1L Oral arguments, to telling us, no, you should just use a motion to dismiss, Canon has shaped how a whole class of lawyers will practice in the coming years. -
Teresa Cantrell

Kerry Charron

College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Charron's flexibility during COVID-19 has been extraordinary to see, as she has completely redesigned the end of a course to allow us to implement what we've learned/need to learn with how higher ed is responding to the pandemic. While this must be extremely difficult, she has taken it as a great way to teach us new things, and keeps the rest of the class motivated.
MEC instructor and also my advisor. She has been awesome in my pursuit of my academic goals. -
Raymond Chastain
Physics
College of Arts and SciencesThroughout all my years of education, physics has been my least favorite subject and the subject that I always had the most trouble understanding. Professor Chastain somehow managed to make me enjoy and appreciate physics as well as greatly improve my understanding of it, something that I never thought was possible. He makes class fun and enjoyable and you can tell that he genuinely cares about all of his students.
Dr. Chastain has been the best professor I've had since walking onto UofL's campus last fall. Dr. Chastain cares about his students and actively tries to improve their understanding of course material. He is open to all suggestions from students about how to make his course more effective and provides such a clear and concise explanation of material. I would recommend every student take his course and he has definitely been my favorite professor. Dr. Chastain deserves to be recognized for his commitment to his students success.
Dr. Chastain has made physics one of the most enjoyable classes I've ever taken. He's really knowledgeable in his teaching and while a lot of work is required for the class, every bit of it has prepared me to succeed in the course. His witty sense of humor and funny jokes are always something I look forward to and he really cares about his students. -

Natalie Christian
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Christian was always high energy, always able and willing to help, and offered plenty of resources to be successful in the class. I enjoyed her class as she sparked a possible interest that I pay and go forward with in my college career.
Dr. Christian is a fantastic instructor and just a great person in general. I am not good at Biology by any means, but she made sure to give me every opportunity to learn the material and be successful. She was so gracious with grades and wanted us to succeed.
She did an excellent job of transferring the class to an online format and was able to still get all material and grades out in a timely manner as well as maintaining transparency with us.
I struggled with some family, home-life, physical, and mental problems and it lead to a failing grade in her class. I met with her and she was so supportive of me and regularly checks up on me to make sure I was going good! Not only did she help me bring up my biology grade, but all of my classes as well! She gave me motivation, determination, and a supportive smile.
Her kind energetic spirit kept me invested and engaged the entire time I was working with her. I have a hard time keeping my interest for things that don't involve music, but somehow Dr. Christian did it. She's responsive and willing to help however she can. I'm hoping she gets rewarded for her efforts this year, for that would be rewarding hard work and gentle teaching. -

Brent Coughenour
English
College of Arts and SciencesGreat professor! Highly recommend to anyone taking English 101 or 102.
Brent truly cares the most about his students. He offers regular conferences to get help on his assignments or just to talk about what's going on in life. For classwork he's equally supportive and gives detailed feedback to help students succeed and to encourage them. His class was a high point of my day; it's nice to have a professor who really cares about his students.
Brent is the best!!!
Brent goes above and beyond to ensure his students succeed! He provides a positive classroom with great discussion. Best of all Brent truly cares about the college life of his students. Comprehensive Dentistry
School of DentistryDr. Crim always goes above and beyond to help students. He provides professional and educational opinions and advice in a fun and approachable manner. He always works with the classes he teaches to help accommodate students needs and always puts the students first. Dr. Crim is the ideal candidate at ULSD for this award.
Dr. Gary Crim has been a cornerstone of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry since 1982 (I'm pretty sure that is the correct year). Dr. Crim is know as "The Godfather of Dental Materials" at ULSD. Dr. Crim stays very up to date on the current literature in his field of study and is a wealth of knowledge. He can always make us laugh during lectures with his jokes and remarks about current happenings at the Dental School. He has probably forgotten more than most will ever know about dentistry. Our class always looks forward to lectures by him._x000D__x000D_ -
John Cross
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Cross has an incredibly diverse and thorough knowledge but, unlike most of my professors, zero ego. He is always quick to respond by email or willing to help in office hours. His lectures are the best I've heard at Brandeis, if not my entire academic career.
Professor Cross is a vacuum of academic talent. More importantly, however, he is endlessly willing to share that talent with students. Whether you have a question related to class or an article you are writing for a journal, Professor Cross is prompt, cheerful, and devoted to helping his students get the answer they need. -
Denise Cumberland
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Cumberland is well deserving of this award as she is an amazing instructor. I have had her for three classes throughout my program and she is by far the most passionate teacher I have had. She has a way of making you want to be involved in the class and leads you to do better. She is a teacher that many should strive to be.
Dr. C met the challenges that came about this semester head-on, quickly and nimbly! Personally, I would not have been as successful this semester had it not been for her. She maintained high expectations but was there step by step to ensure I and my fellow classmates had the support they needed to be successful! Thank you Dr. C!
I am honored and excited to share good words for my academic advisor, Dr. Denise Cumberland. Beyond always assisting with my creative approaches and recurrent revisions to my course planner, Dr. Cumberland has exemplified her expertise in advising, far surpassing her role, but as a mentor and friend. She has lent an ear when school and work issues arose during our dealings and offered objective reasoning and foresight whenever stress and anger prevented me from doing so. She is highly encouraging and helpful. I owe my growth as a student, worker, forever learner, and an individual to her and her guidance. It is only right that she receives praise as she acts so selflessly in her dealings. I appreciate being advised by Dr. Cumberland and wish for others to foster a relationship with their advisors in hopes of it being a fraction of how rewarding my experience has been.
Dr. C has been absolutely fantastic. Dr. Cumberland does a fantastic job of making lectures engaging, including everyone, and provides lots of examples to make learning relevant. She has been understanding during all the changes due to COVID, and again, very engaging. Also, her optimism and positivity is infectious. Taking her courses is always a great experience.
This professor really made her lectures exciting and interactive by incorporating games that were actually fun. Her enthusiasm really shines through her teaching.
Dr. C. is proactive and prompt in all communication. Dr. C. is concerned for each student's success. She is genuine and passionate of her work! -

Great teacher!
Dr. Franco's online Chemistry course was a pleasure to participate in this semester. Her video lectures were very straightforward and easy to understand. I really appreciated the online lesson sets and quizzes provided through Knewton that Dr. Franco chose to place in her class. She was very prompt in answering any questions and I feel she did a fantastic job structuring this online course for busy/long distance students. I really do feel like I learned much in this course and am very proud of the knowledge I acquired enrolling in this course. I plan on taking further levels of Chemistry with this professor as I advance in my major.

Prof. Franco is a great professor in every way. She is great in communicating with students, and was very patient with me when I was questioning some principles of chemistry. She is very easy to talk to, and deserves as much recognition as can be given.
Mrs. Franco is amazing! I got mono at the beginning of the semester and she took time out of her day to help me catch up and overall succeed in her class. I would recommend her to anyone that needed to take Chem 101.
I like the fact that the unit assignments were opened so early.
Very good at helping 1 on 1.

Erick Dubuque is the best educator that I have ever had. Erick is meticulous and efficient in the way he presents his subject matter. He has a passion for what he does and it is evident in the way that he teaches. The ABA and Autism program would not be what it is without him. I truly felt that Erick was there to ensure all of his students not just passed, but thrived.
Erick has been my professor for 2 years. While there is no doubt that he is an excellent professor, he is an even better person. Advisement meetings always consist of "how are you doing?" and "If anybody in your cohort is struggling, please let me know." His genuine care for the success of his students both inside and outside of the classroom is what makes Erick great.
Dr. Dubuque has shared his wealth of knowledge with me and my classmates for the past two years of our program in applied behavior analysis. I have been Professor Dumstorf's student for two and a half years now and he is truly one of my all-time, if not my all-time, favorite professor. He combines immersion and experiential learning, with the necessary study work to complete the course. I have enjoyed every single class with Professor Dumstorf. He truly cares about the University and his students in a way that makes me proud to be a Louisville Cardinal! -
Natalie DuPré
Epidemiology and Population Health
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. DuPre is not only knowledgeable about epidemiology but she also cares about her students and wants them to learn the material more than memorize it for a test. I've had the privilege of being her student and TA and she excelled as both a teacher and mentor. UofL SPHIS is lucky to have such a wonderful, intelligent faculty member. -

Thomas Edison
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesSpanish 305 (Grammar and Writing) with Dr. Edison was my first college-level Spanish class. I went into this semester assuming I would feel out of place in a higher-level Spanish class (and, to no surprise, I did to a degree). However, Dr. Edison does not let a single student slip through the cracks in his classes. Uncomfortable as I may have been, he would make sure that I participated in class, calling me out when I wasn't speaking up. And, to little surprise, the more I participated, the more confident I felt communicating in Spanish and the more my speaking skills improved. Dr. Edison is engaging, and he is intentional about making sure that he's understood by his students and gives individual attention to the students who need it. I can count myself blessed that I was allowed to begin my Spanish study with Dr. Edison, I would recommend his class to anyone seeking to do the same, and I would absolutely love to see him be rewarded for his caring approach to college-level language learning.
This instructor is the reason I have persevered in the Spanish major. He emphasizes both the strenuous labor involved in language learning and the beauty of it as well. He does not leave students behind. He always makes sure everyone in class is "on the bus" and is very attentive to our individual struggles. Edison is tough and he is passionate and I believe he is the most deserving of this recognition. -
Freya Edlin
Psychological and Brain Sciences
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Edlin provided my online Psychology Statistics instruction; delivered the material through a variety of methods to best fit many learning styles. Video presentations were highly effective, interesting and humorous.
Dr. Edlin is the sweetest and most helpful professor I have ever had. The amount of effort that goes into the responses she gives to her students if they need help is amazing. She has never made me feel less of a student because of the questions I asked her about. She goes out of her way to give really good examples and even additional examples if needed.
Dr. Edlin has gone above and beyond for being compassionate and helpful during the transition to remote/online learning. She has been more than a professor - she has offered a lot of advice for how to handle this experience more so than any other professor I have. -
Imad Elhaj
Finance
College of BusinessHe was always available in his office and responded to me via email in a timely fashion. I feel he truly cares about his students and wants them to learn as much as possible. I feel like I have become much more knowledgeable and understanding of finance in the business world. -
Lucas Elliott
College of Education and Human DevelopmentHe is so hardworking and wants the best for his students. He works so hard to ensure the information provided from his class is understandable and something that will benefit us all in the future. He takes time to give everyone thoughtful feedback. No one is more deserving than Mr. Elliott. He is by far one of the best professors and people I have met thus far at UofL. -
Aaron Ellis
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesHe is super supportive of his students and genuinely wants every one of us to get better and to be more confident in our abilities.
Professor Ellis taught my public speaking class and I enjoyed it. He consistently planned activities so that we could all get to know each other better as a class and throughout the course. Everyone improved in their public speaking skills. He was always easy to reach during his office hours and he always explained things very clearly so that everyone was on the same page. -
Steve Ellis
Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics
School of MedicineDr. Ellis is such a wonderful professor in so many ways. He works long hours and on weekends purely for the benefit of students. Additionally, he goes to great lengths to ensure his lectures are easy to understand and relate to other topics we have learned in medical school. I have truly enjoyed his classes and consider it a great privilege to have been his student.
Dr. Ellis is the 1st year medical students' instructor for their second semester. He is an amazing instructor and really cares for all of his students.
He is one of the best teachers that exist on the earth. -
Jessica Emery
School of NursingShe is always professional! Willing to help you learn in any area... even in other classes she would have one-on-one talks. She sat down with a group and had helpful hints on how to do math that was not her class. She is always smiling and friendly. I enjoyed having her this semester. -
Adam Enders
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Enders might very well be the sole reason I have both the dream of pursuing a career in academia and science and the ability and tools to do so. His guidance coupled with his obvious love for the pursuit of knowledge have been so absolutely invaluable that I genuinely do not have the words to adequately express my gratitude. -
Kristie Hofelich Ennis
English
College of Arts and SciencesShe's been an awesome teacher this semester and has helped me have an easier transition into college. I liked her so much I'm trying to get into her English 102 class next semester. She's awesome!!
Definitely was one of my best professors I had this semester. She made the transition from high school English to college English really easy. She helped me succeed in this class all semester.
She helped me to enjoy going to class and helped me to enjoy writing and learn more about myself as a writer.
Dr. Ennis was my favorite professor hands down. Starting college and being the young freshman on campus is difficult and sometimes daunting, but Dr. Ennis really changed my perspective and showed me how great college classes can be. From the first day of class, I noticed how different she was from the rest of the professor's I had met. While we were walking into class, she had music playing and a colorful PowerPoint on the screen. She greeted each person as they walked in with a warm smile, making everyone feel like they belonged. She really made an effort to know everyone's names and talk to them about how they were feeling and if they had any questions about her class or anything. During class, Dr. Ennis made each lesson fun while also teaching us important lessons that would help us as we continued our college careers writing papers and creating presentations. If I could, I would take every one of Dr. Ennis's classes because of her joyfulness, effort to make every class important, and fun spirit. Leaving her class, I feel educated, enlightened, and motivated and I can't wait to see her again next semester. -
Eileen Estes
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Estes has made me glad I came to grad school at UofL. She has provided such a welcoming, transparent, and safe space in our class. It's the first time in my education career that I actually am excited to go to class. I genuinely enjoy her and the atmosphere she creates, I wish every professor could be like this!
Dr. Estes is one of the best professors I have ever had. I was nervous about taking Ethics this semester because I thought it was going to be very confusing, but she has made it enjoyable and I have learned a lot. It is clear that she has the best interest of every student in mind. I also enjoy the way she has structured the class. -
Lindsey Evans
Urban and Public Affairs
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Evans is extremely passionate about her department and her students. She goes above and beyond to educate us and make us feel supported. I can't think of anyone more deserving.
Great variety of teaching methods, extremely enthusiastic, and open for many questions
Dr. Evans cares deeply for the success of her students. She makes learning fun, accessible, and engaging. I have had several classes with her and she is able to make even the most mundane topics dynamic and interesting. She is impressively organized and is always clear in her instructions. One of the best professors I've ever had.
I have Dr. Evans for Research Methods. This class can be challenging, but Dr. Evans has done such a wonderful job in making the material understandable. I also have the impression that Dr. Evans cares about all of the students in our class and she has taken time to get to know all of us on a individual basis.
Dr. Evans is a bad ass!!! She is so strong and so eloquent and she truly cares about students. I learned so much and I feel inspired.
Dr. Evans is an amazing instructor. Her content knowledge is superior and her passion for teaching is evident in every class meeting. She is truly a gem at UofL and my favorite instructor!
Dr. Evans is full of energy and makes difficult courses exciting while completely preparing students to make good decisions. She cares deeply about teaching and accommodates and includes every student in the learning process. Dr. Evans is also infusing new life into the MPA non-profit track, and will surely produce strong non-profit sector leaders for the city.
Dr. Evans made a class that many of us dreaded taking in our first semester of graduate school -- Research Methods -- into a fun and exciting learning environment. The class was challenging, but her constant attention to make sure we were learning and understanding the material, combined with her great sense of humor and passion for the subject, made it a terrific experience.
As a first year grad student that has been out of school for a long while, Dr. Evans has been not just an exemplary professor to me, but she has also been an outstanding advisor, resource, and advocate for the graduate program and all its students.
SHE IS AWESOME!
She is completely invested in her work and educating her students so we may make a significant impact in our professional. After a long day at work, I look forward to going to class. She challenges us while still finding time to make us laugh. She is always open for questions and strives to help us be the best we can. -
Paul Ewald
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesHe is one of the BEST professors at the University of Louisville. He has done 200+ research papers and is too knowledgeable to be true. Wants students to get the best grade and always ready to help. I HIGHLY APPRECIATE HIS WORK. -
Jeff Falcone
Physiology
School of MedicineDr. Falcone goes above and beyond for his students. Even outside of the classroom, he made himself available for further clarification on difficult topics for our program. He held office hours for his students every week. He is an outstanding professor and an even better human being. I am honored to be a UofL student, because of him.
Dr. Falcone is an extraordinary instructor that cares about his students' success. During this pandemic, he constantly contacted us, making sure we were staying on top of lectures and most importantly, staying safe. He was available when we needed help or just wanted to talk about how this pandemic was affecting us. UofL is blessed to have him as a professor!
He loves his job and his students.
I am an MS in Physiology student through the Department of Physiology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. My goal is to complete my MS degree and gain acceptance into a medical school. Dr. Falcone is the director of the systemic physiology course that I have been in this semester. He has had an enormous impact on my performance in his course, as well as in my other course, indirectly. Dr. Falcone has continually challenged me to commit myself to the material that I have been taught by himself and other lecturers. He has challenged me to demand more of myself as a student at the graduate level of education. I feel that with Dr. Falcone's guidance and instruction both as a professor and as a mentor, I will be better prepared to make the transition from an MS program to an MD program. Dr. Falcone deserves recognition for all of the effort that he continually puts into making sure that his students are as successful as they can be.
It is an honor to have been taught by a selfless person such as Dr. Falcone. The dedication, time, and effort he puts into helping his students is beyond what I can explain. Dr. Falcone truly wishes the best for his students and him winning the award would only be recognizing a small portion of his hard work and selflessness.
Very helpful professor and cares a lot about students. Wants to help them be successful and will be truthful about their future plans. -
Russ Farmer
Surgery
School of MedicineDr. Farmer has been a ray of sunshine in this dark and uncertain time. His input during the Town Hall meetings and unending attempts to cheer everyone up were something we looked forward to each week. He definitely deserves an award for his optimism, understanding and hard work.
Dr. Farmer has gone above and beyond the call of duty during the COVID outbreak for medical students of all years. I have also personally reached out to him with a personal health problem that could further complicate ULSOM scheduling for myself and he was nothing but empathetic and helpful. Truly a ray of sunshine for students and faculty during this time.
Dr. Farmer is amazing! He is passionate, kind, hard working, and so supportive. He is there for us day and night, and he follows through. I appreciate all he does. He is always willing to meet, talk, text, and be there for us!
Dr. Farmer has quickly jumped into his new role and put in so much effort to adapt the clinical education for medical students during this pandemic. He is always so positive and enthusiastic, and is eager to assist students. He deserves recognition and appreciation.
Dr. Farmer has gone above and beyond this year when it comes to putting his students first. He has worked tirelessly to modify the medical school curriculum for third year students throughout the COVID crisis, and we are incredibly thankful for everything he has done.
Dr. Farmer is new to the School of Medicine UME Faculty within the past year. He has provided students with unending support and resources to succeed. During the COVID pandemic he continues to operate on very sick patients as a colorectal surgeon while then transitioning to his role as an educator/leader. Dr. Farmer is a true example of a servant leader.
Dr. Farmer is an excellent teacher. He is engaging and has an interesting way of presenting concepts. He also taught the only course I ended up taking this year, as all my other courses were clinical rotations with no "professors."
Dr. Farmer goes above and beyond to help make sure students stay engaged in and have an active say in their learning. He has made the entire COVID-19 Distance Learning process much easier and significantly reduced medical students' stress.
I was fortunate to work with Dr. Farmer on the colorectal subspecialty during my surgery rotation. I thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone but Dr. Farmer stands out among the rest in every way from approachability to knowledge and helping students reach their goals. I am thankful for all of his help during these uncertain times. -

Carlos Felico-Garrido
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesCarlos is committed to student success and is always available. Carlos has been a great supporter in these hard times, offering time to ask questions or just talk about what is going on. Since joining this class I have not only learned Spanish but had fun while doing so. Carlos is just generally a great person and a wonderful teacher. -
Jose Fernandez
Economics
College of BusinessDr. Fernandez taught my Economics and Law course. He provides an ample amount of extra readings/resources that are enjoyable to read and makes himself available outside of class should we need any assistance.
A great professor. The course material is difficult, but he does a great job of making it easy to understand and relatable for the students. Also, he's very personable and approachable. I'd recommend anyone to take him, even if they're not an economics major.
Prof. Fernandez has been my favorite instructor thus far in the Economics Department. His lectures are very thought provoking, and I leave each one having learned something new. It is not an easy class, but he makes student success a priority. It is evident that his goal is to ensure students are learning the material. Prof Fernandez gives exams and assignments that are doable and help aid the learning process. I look forward to his class, which is something I can rarely say. -
Lisa-Anne Ferris
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Ferris is my favorite professor based on her method of instruction, her knowledge and experience in Human Resources, and her welcoming personality in her classes! She's insightful, shares her experiences with the class to enrich the material, and should be nominated for this. -
Jocelyn Fetalver
Kent School of Social WorkI wanted to nominate Jocelyn because she is one of the only professors that I've had that showed me that they genuinely cared about me and my well-being. I've been going through some hard things this past year, and when my grades showed it, she went out of her way to reach out to me on multiple occasions to make sure that I was okay and she helped me get back on track. -
John Finch
Special Education, Early Childhood and Prevention Science
College of Education and Human DevelopmentLiterally the best professor I ever had. He cared so much about each and every one of us. He truly wants to see us succeed as future teachers.
He genuinely cares about his students and goes above and beyond to help them.
He's dope. -
Gina Firenzi
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesBeing an all-online student can certainly leave you feeling like you've been left adrift to fend for yourself. Ms. Firenzi has really helped me feel like I am part of UofL even though she teaches from California. She actively and regularly engages with the class, quickly responds to emails, explains our grades, and has always been willing to help when I have questions. When so many online professors just open assignments and disappear, she has been a bright spot while I've been an online student.
Gina Firenzi is an awesome educator. I have taken three consecutive classes with her because her teaching style is very effective for an online format. Professor Firenzi creates an open dialogue for her students through discussion forums that allows us to learn from each other. I recommend her to anyone taking communication classes. -
Chris Fitzgerald
School of MusicChris Fitzgerald is the best. He teaches music theory, which is notoriously complicated, but he adapts his teaching methods to his students and makes concepts like Augmented Six Chords and Secondary Dominants as easy as Do Re Mi. I am so grateful to be in his class for two semesters; he truly impacted my music life, and truly deserves this award. -
Lauren Fletcher
Elementary, Middle and Secondary Teacher Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentI was an engineering student taking one of Ms. Fletcher's education classes as a gen-ed. She made the class fun, educational, and personal. She was the only professor I had in four years at UofL to get to know her students. She genuinely made class fun, and I always looked forward to days that I had that class.
Did an awesome job teaching on children's literature, focusing on it objectively. She makes the class a lot of work, but it's well worth it. I definitely learned a lot about different aspects of read alouds, and other similar sorts of things.
An amazing teacher that cares so much about her students' achievement. Her assignments are well thought out and strategically planned. Amazing professor.
Really tried to reach out to students and went the extra mile to ensure an enjoyable learning experience.
Mrs. Fletcher is an amazing person and Professor. She is so passionate about teaching and her students and makes sure she is giving her full effort for each class meeting. She is by far one of the most organized professors/teachers I have ever had, which makes the class run smoothly and effectively. Learned so much through interactive leaning and activities. -

Hichem Frigui
Computer Science and Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringTaking six classes this semester, including CECS 419, taught by Dr. Frigui. This is the class that worked the best during the transition to the online environment. I actually think this class is now better than what it was before the COVID-19 outbreak.
Dr. Frigui and his Graduate Assistant Aliashghar are both patient and encouraging. Through a tough semester as a Master's student, they have let me gripe and be angry while they remained calm and helpful. Their guidance has taken me from my first test at a 70 to my most recent test at a 91. Without them, my semester would have been much more frustrating, but they took a real interest in my success and the success of their students. 10 out of 10!
The Prof. makes great effort to develop lectures so that students can quickly grasp central concepts of a topic. Homework and exams further reinforce this. Ali the TA is a great help as well, e.g.. very quick response time on email for Distance students such as me. Thank-You!
The instructor is very good at teaching and his slides are very helpful.
Nice course and great learning. -

Not only is Dr. Frost an expert in his field of study, but he is tremendously passionate about sharing this knowledge with others. Cynthia Ganote
Sociology
College of Arts and SciencesCynthia Ganote was my professor for Diversity and Inequality this semester. She is the best professor I have ever had as a student. Professor Ganote was so accommodating, nice, and gracious during the entire semester, but especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. She really shows that she cares for her students' well being and academic success.
Dr. Ganote is, by far, my favorite teacher. She clearly and concisely examines difficult and controversial topics in addition to helping her students learn the material. Her classes have increased my social conscience and given me new perspective in the world.
She's not one of my instructors but I previously interviewed her for a podcast and she is really a fantastic person who inspires anybody. -
Donna Gaus
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Gaus is simply one of the most organized and intelligent instructors I have ever worked with. I highly recommend her courses! -
Elizabeth Gentry
Industrial Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Gentry was my professor for a handful of courses throughout the MEEM program. I especially enjoyed her lectures and her feedback on assignments. She also made herself available for questions regardless of her travel schedule (which is hectic). I sincerely appreciate all of the faculty's work and effort to make this program effective.
Fair and pragmatic grading and open notes without timed quizzes policies. -
Casey George
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. George has been outstanding this semester. She was extremely understanding during this "hectic" semester. -
Erin Gerber
Industrial Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Gerber explains content both easy and hard to understand in a very succinct yet effective way; statistics courses tend to have a fair amount of confusing and lengthy mathematics, but her communication skills are truly greater than that of most other resources. She's always enthusiastic about the class--even if the students aren't--and that surely shows in her lectures._x000D__x000D_ _x000D__x000D_ Going beyond the classroom, she's widely available for extra help and quickly responds to email messages. Her wry (and sometimes covert) sense of humor paired with her passion for students makes for a refreshingly approachable person to go to, where so many other instructors tend to fail. -
Rebecca Gesler
School of NursingDr. Gesler made sure to check in with the class as a whole and myself repeatedly throughout the end of the semester. She would even ask how I was holding up or if I needed anything if I texted her regarding something for class. I have never had a teacher be as caring as she is! -
Grace Giesel
Brandeis School of LawShe never hesitates to go out of her way to work with all of her students and answer any questions and she finds alternate ways to explain things until everyone understands. She is always really positive and understanding and I always look forward to her class. She puts in extra effort to simplify complex rules in a way that will be easy for us to apply to multiple facts.
Professor Giesel is one of the best professors at UofL. She's skilled at helping students enjoy and retain the law, and her compassion and encouragement have more impact on students than she'll ever know.
Professor Giesel was one of my professors my 1L year and she was wonderful. This semester I signed up to take a difficult course, but I was hopeful because she was the professor. While this class was difficult as I anticipated she designed the course knowing and considerate of the fact that many students find it challenging. -
Stephan Gohmann
Economics
College of BusinessProfessor Gohmann is an exemplary professor and has been a standout favorite throughout the PMBA program. His courses were covered thoroughly while keeping the cohort actively involved and engaged. To go along with this he was a great faculty supervisor during the international travel to South Africa.
Dr. Gohmann was an absolute joy to have as an instructor for Economics I and II in the Professional MBA program this semester. Not only was his instruction on point, effective, and informative, he kept the time spent in class fun with his break time activities as well as sharing of very interesting, and often hilarious, stories of his career. The curriculum he taught was very tough as it pertains to outside class time, as all of the PMBA courses seem to be, but he found a way to explain the high points that made the nuances of the learning more understandable. By far, he has proven to me worthy of Favorite Professor so far in the program.
Professor Gohmann is very passionate about the information he teaches. I really enjoyed learning in his class. He teaches in a way that facilitates open conversation and helps the knowledge stick with you.
Solid. Provided an amazing classroom environment, that led to some of the best discussions I've ever had in college. Without a doubt in my mind, ECON 375-01 Capitalism and Economic Freedom class, was by far the best class I've ever taken in college.
I had the pleasure of having professor Gohmann as an instructor for Economics as a current MBA student. I spoke to professor Gohmann about my long term goals and interests in music and Music Therapy and he connected me directly to Rob Kapilow. Mr Kapilow was visiting Louisville and guest speaking during the week. professor Gohmann shared my interests with him, I met him personally and I now have him as an amazing advisory and resource all thanks to professor Gohmann. After awhile professor Gohmann took the initiative to follow up with me and ask how our introduction went. I’m extremely appreciative that professor Gohmann went beyond the classroom to assist me in this way.
I had the privilege to be taught by Dr. Gohmann during a five week term within the Professional MBA program. I've taken numerous economics classes over the years and haven't had much success in grasping the subject. I felt like I learned more during that term than I had ever learned in full length semester or any other class. His teaching is truly an art.
Dr Gohmann cares about his students. Really try to help them to be successful. Great teacher -
Matthew Goldberg
History
College of Arts and SciencesBest professor in so many different ways.
Professor Goldberg was simply outstanding. He was engaging in class every day, and his lectures actually stuck with me and made history, a subject that I have always felt pretty indifferent towards, something that really intrigued me.
He always cares about his students and makes class fun!
Absolutely outstanding professor, best professor I've had thus far. Not only is he beyond intelligent, he teaches in a way that is easy for everyone to learn from. He makes sure each one of us thoroughly understand the topic at hand in multiple different ways, he is extremely personable, he builds professional bonds with us which in turn makes for mutual respect which also makes me never want to miss his class - and I haven't. Personally, I've retained everything he has taught and it's even made me second guess what I want to major in. Everyone I've talked to absolutely 100% enjoys his class and agrees that it's the best learning experience we've had at UofL - my friend recommended I take this course and it's definitely the best decision I've made, also the best class I've taken. He's the most solid professor by far, and I hope he teaches other courses which I won't hesitate to sign up for. He 100% deserves this award and more!!! -
Zachary Goldman
Management
College of BusinessDr. Goldman has been one of the most inspiring teachers at UofL. He took a required class, one which no one really wants to take, and turned it into one of the most valuable career and life lessons I have learned. He was always willing to help, but he was just as eager to give us the tools to succeed on our own merits. I will forever remember the things I learned in Dr. Goldman's class, school and career alike.
He is such an awesome teacher, he truly has a passion for what he teaches and it's very obvious through his teaching that he cares about his students. He has made this past semester enjoyable which says a lot when talking about schoolwork. -

Sharon Gordon
Medical Student Affairs
School of MedicineMs. Gordon is a generous, kind, and caring woman. She has made it a point to reach out to me before and after exams just to check on my progress and my mental health. She greatly influenced my decision to come to UofL. Everyone that she works with she treats as one of her children and this love and concern is why I nominate Sharon Gordon.
I experienced the loss of two family members in January, and I considered taking time off from school. Ms. Gordon made sure my education continued. She worked tirelessly to ensure my responsibilities were handled. She was a beacon of light during a dark time. She goes above and beyond for my class. She sends words of affirmation, provides resources, and checks in on us.
Ms. Gordon is a phenomenal faculty member. She goes the extra mile to make sure students have access to the support and resources they need. She has a large arena of people in her network that she makes available for her students. My life at UofL School of Medicine would not be the same without her.
Ms. Gordon is an absolute vital resource in the day to day journey to medical school. Her office is always open for quick questions and check ins. She is keen to know subtleties in demeanor and personal wellness. Ms. Gordon has made a huge impact in my success in medical school. Thank you Ms. Gordon for everything. I hope I can be half as amazing as you are! -

Kristopher Grady
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Grady's international relations class is very engaging. I have heard from others that his other classes are equally as engaging.
Dr. Grady seems to genuinely care about his students. He is helpful in office hour meetings, provides grades in a timely manner, provides the resources needed to study for exams. His assignments are free of trick-questions but are challenging and not simply looking for a passing or superficial knowledge of the topic. -

She's the best & most patient teacher ever
Dr. Gray has had an insanely hectic semester and still has managed to provide amazing experiences for her students both in the classroom and during extracurricular activities. -
Mary Gregory
School of NursingMary is what all clinical instructors should be. She displayed numerous qualities that of not only a great nurse to patients, but a nurse that took younger nurses under her wing and created excitement and passion about the profession we are entering. Extremely knowledgeable and intelligent, yet kind, humble and compassionate. She would offer reassurance and support for tense or difficult moments in the clinical setting. She would educate in a way that took into account our level of knowledge at the time, without doubting us or our abilities. Mary went the extra mile and was able to place me in observation in the operating room, a place that I have always considered being a nurse. At times of high stress and chaos in our classroom courses, she took a few minutes to sit and talk with us about "how it was all going." She cared about our psychological well being and it made the world of difference for motivation to get through the nursing programs tough curriculum. A wonderful role model, educator and addition to the nursing program, I truly feel that Mary deserves recognition of exceeding expectations and creating a positive and memorable clinical experience. -

Eileen Grigutis
School of NursingDr. Grigutis is an exceptional professor. She really went above and beyond in teaching our class this semester and stayed positive and found ways to stay in contact with us when we transitioned to online classes. She not only cares about our education but us as individuals. She takes the time, regardless of the hour of day, to answer any questions or concerns we have.
Dr. G was so understanding this semester. She talked me out of giving up more than once and was completely supportive and understanding of my circumstances in trying to finish this semester. She helped ease my stress and anxiety tremendously as everything started shifting during the quarantine.
Professor Grigutis is always a team player for the students! I appreciate her empathy with us always and enjoy learning from experiences she has from her own practice. I look forward to having her again. -

College of Arts and SciencesEven just as a teaching assistant, Mr. Grimm made me want to come to my biology lab everyday. He found ways to make every lab interesting and took time to make sure that every student understood all of the content before leaving for the day. -
Paul Griner
English
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Griner has been one of my absolute favorites of my four and half years here at UofL. He is so insightful and humorous. I took his 504 creative writing workshop and it has truly helped me and my writing grow immensely. He has encouraged my peers and I to write outside if the box we've sort of been stuffed into throughout our academic careers. I would strongly recommend anyone take Professor Griner. You will NOT regret it!
Griner is the kind of Professor to make you think outside the box, to push you past your limits so you can see exactly what you are capable of. He is an excellent professor, and definitely someone whose classes I'd be happy to take repeatedly. -

College of Arts and SciencesDr. Hagan did a fantastic job putting his students first during this uncertain time. He told us we have until 4/26 to get everything completed and we could work at our own pace. He knew some of us may be dealing with sickness, loss of jobs, homeschooling our own children at the moment, etc. -

Gerald Hammond
Chemistry
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Hammond is truly my favorite professor I have ever had at UofL and really has given me hope as a student. He is so down to earth and really wants to get to know everyone in his class even outside of just their names (although he pretty much knows all 100+). His office hours are so helpful and even more than that, fun, because you get to know him and you can talk about anything. He is so kind and really cares about the whole student, not just their grade in his course. He is aware of tough material but always tries to keep it light and fun. His class set up has CHANGED my life. It is so fair and has taken away all of the anxiety that has been brought up from traditional university classroom set-ups. His class set-up has allowed me to enjoy organic chemistry and learn it because I want to (because hello I do, or I wouldn't be here!), instead of just learning material good enough for 4 tests throughout the semester. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Hammond!!!
He's so funny and makes organic chemistry enjoyable.
Generally a great teacher, very understanding and helpful!
Dr. Hammond always goes above and beyond for his students. He truly wants us to learn and cares deeply about our success and well being. He made organic chemistry fun and was always willing to help us excel in any way he could. I'm thankful for his hard work and dedication to his students!
He strives to make each student understand the information for the long time and pushes himself to know students at a personal level.
I have Dr. Hammond for organic chemistry and he has been the absolutely best professor I have ever had. He is so engaging and entertaining during lectures and makes it a point to know his students' names (even while having a big lecture hall). He makes himself available for help and during office hours he has made it a point to get to know his students. He takes pride in being fair and it is evident he wants his students to succeed which I really appreciate.
Dr. Hammond is a great professor! His flipped learning model was different than what I've seen in any course before but it worked for me! He is very understanding and helps his students succeed as much as possible. I will forever recommend him as an instructor and mentor. Thanks Dr. Hammond for being you! -

College of BusinessTy Handy has been super open, helpful, and flexible in this uncertain time. He is very transparent and has given us access to him when we need help in Business Analytics. It is amazing that he is the president of his own college, and still remains committed to us! He even went as far as making videos for us to have in order to better understand the material. -
Rachel Hansen
Industrial Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringFantastic instructor. Terrific approachability, instructability, teaching style, responsiveness, feedback, etc. -
Stephen Hanson
Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Stephen Hanson is the best professor I have had while attending UofL. He has shown me a passion for philosophy that I did not even know I had and I am always eager to sign up for whatever class he is teaching each semester. Dr. Hanson tried to adhere to every student's learning style by implementing different options regarding tests, quizzes, and papers. Further, he takes a great interest in what his students are interested in and in each of my classes he has asked what we would like to talk about during the semester. He then finds a way to implement those topics into the course material. It will be a sad day when I have taken every class that Dr. Stephen Hanson has to offer at this university. -
Katie Harman
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentShe's a legend. She comes consistently to every class. She never makes you feel stupid.
Dr. Harman is a prime example of a professor that is passionate and cares about what they do. From online recordings to extra lab sessions, Dr. Harman does everything she can to help each student understand the material. She truly goes above and beyond to make sure that students are learning and retaining the material. Taking her class, it's very clear that she takes the time to assign work that is beneficial and does not waste the student's time, even when it adds to her workload. Her dedication is very much appreciated.
Dr. Harman is an excellent professor. She cares deeply about her students. She makes sure to teach the material in different ways, so students are able to understand it. She gives us ways to apply the material to real life examples so we're able to see that what we're learning has an importance. She gives us our grades back in a timely manner. She always has our exam grades about an hour after we take it which is really nice. She goes above and beyond for her students. She makes the difficult material easy to understand. She takes feedback from her students and is always trying to improve the course.
Her class was relatively challenging but she made it interesting and taught me a lot.
Professor Harman is the best and goes out of her way to give students a good semester in her class. Although her classes are challenging and she doesn't give students an easy way out, this makes sure that the material is easier to learn because the professor is engaged and it shows that she cares about her students!
Dr. Harman is the best instructor I have ever had at UofL. Her teaching style, personality, and the way she conducted her class have been unmatched in my college career to this point. She is an extraordinary educator and is very deserving of this nomination
Katie is a wonderful teacher. Even though her content is very tough, she helps and wants to see you succeed. She will push you to learn the content and become a better version of yourself. I loved having her as a professor and know I can always come to her for help.
Professor Harman is easily one of the best teachers I've ever had! She cares so much about the success of her students, not only in her classroom, but in their careers as a whole. She is always making sure everybody understands the concepts and will include tips to make studying easier.
I recently finished a biomechanics course taught by Dr. Harman and loved it! The material was interesting to me and I thought she was very helpful when it came to understating it all. I liked her teaching style and look forward to taking more of her classes.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Took her for two courses which were probably the hardest of my academic career. The way she taught and explained things made these courses not only manageable but interesting. She was constantly available for help and gave us plenty of opportunities to be successful.
She lays out the information extremely well and really makes sure each student has a good grasp on the material.
Amazing professor, I was very scared to go into biomechanics but as soon as I got in there Dr. Harman immediately made me feel better with her positive attitude. Throughout the semester she's always been available when people need help and in class she goes above and beyond to give us ways to easily remember muscles which helps so much with such a hard subject! Such a sweet and kind person!
Best teacher I've ever had at UofL. Had her twice and both times she was amazing. She knows her stuff so well, gives plenty of resources to help us out since the classes she teaches are very hard. She is so friendly and was the first teacher I wasn't afraid to reach out to for help. All of my other teachers made it hard to feel okay to come and talk to them if I was struggling. She deserves it! -
William Harrington

Dr. Muriel J. Harris serves as the Director of the PhD students in the School of Public Health and Information Sciences in the Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences. She serves as a "mother" to the 2022 cohort. Above her mentorship and knowledge that she graciously gives, she gives caring, concern, and is genuine. She demands more from her students, while still lifting them up. She does so much and is not given her just do! We love her!
I am a second year doctoral student in the Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Harris makes me feel supported, valued, and like family. She has taught me a lot through experiential learning and I appreciate her patience and scaffolding through the process. I know many other students who feel the same!

Kenneth Hartung

College of BusinessI appreciate the efforts of Professor Hartung this semester and think he should be recognized for his outstanding work.
He is a wonderful person, he made learning sales less challenging, and even fun at times. He actually cares and went out of his way to help his students when we didn't understand or were confused about something. He is by far the best teacher I've had at UofL.
I have had Professor Hartung prior to this semester, and once again he delivered a fun semester that actively kept everyone engaged. We had teams that we would do fun projects with, created presentations that were fun to watch, and had arguably the best class of my college career. He moved quickly so no one was bored, made sure everyone knew the material, gave extra opportunities to students if they fell behind, and was always available outside of class and understanding of any personal hardships that came up. -
Jenna Haugen
Management
College of BusinessI can't say enough nice things about Dr. Haugen. I had her for both Business Communications and MGMT 490. Dr. Haugen made learning fun, and I appreciate that. Her classes were not easy, but I can honestly say that I learned the most in her classes. She was always accessible outside of class, and as a student, that is extremely important.

School of NursingDr. Hayden shows she really cares about her students and I know she's here for all of us.
Dr. Hayden is exemplary because despite the difficulty of her courses, she is patient and reassuring, reminding everyone that we can do this; even more so since the outbreak and the uncertainty it brought forth. Dr. Hayden seems genuinely interested in students' wellbeing, our experience at UofL, and our continued academic success, which inspires a great amount of trust.
Dr. Hayden has gone above and beyond to ensure our learning not only this semester but every semester. She provides several different methods of communication and is truly willing to do what ever it takes to ensure we are equipped to be leaders in the Nursing Community. I can only hope to be as skilled, confident, and gracious as she is as a provider and mentor. -

Lora Haynes
Psychology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Haynes was an amazing Instructor. I took her for a psychology capstone and it involved a lot of service learning. She taught me more about philanthropy and non profit organizations in Louisville that help in various subsections of psychology. Just to name a few: Family and Children's Place, Global Game Changers, Paws for Purpose, and Centerstone. I have learned so much throughout this course from her about community service based programs and participating in the community to make it a better place and initiate change. She deserves this award because she is a philanthropist and she also developed this course all on her own, Psyc 415 Family rusk, resilience, and mindfulness, which is amazing. She is the sweetest most altruistic professor I have ever had the chance of meeting. I am so grateful I was able to have her as my instructor. I highly recommend Dr. Lora Haynes for this nomination. -

One of the most amazing instructors I've ever had! I've already learned so much from her and cannot wait to continue learning from her. She definitely deserves this!
Maura deserves this award more than almost any other professor at the University of Louisville. She cares deeply for each of her students and is so passionate about the future of interpreting that she accepts nothing less than the very best from each and every student.

Natalie Henderson
Pediatrics
School of MedicineDr. Henderson was selfless enough to teach a virtual ICU class to the fourth-year medical students despite her other obligations as a mother and physician during the COVID-19 pandemic. On top of all of this, she made sure to do daily "check-ins" with us to see how we were doing and give us updates on the ways in which COVID-19 is affecting our lives as future physicians. -
Nikki Henderson
Kent School of Social WorkNikki made the difference in my first semester back since having a baby! She was so encouraging, helpful, and understanding. I honestly have never felt that a teacher genuinely cared about me as a person, as opposed to concern for my well-being as just a student. Nikki definitely cares about her students as people and it shows. Taking one class with her improved my performance in my other 3! She is the best. -
Ann Herd
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentAs a non-traditional student, I've truly appreciated Dr. Herd's efforts to incorporate students' experiences into classroom examples. She encourages feedback and discussion, making it a key part of the class. She helps students understand how their experiences inform their approaches to leadership. She interacts with the class with an immutable sense of kindness and patience. I've enjoyed my semester in her class, and I expect to refer to her examples and guidance in my day-to-day work.
This was my first semester in the program and Dr. Herd was very gracious as I contacted her via phone, text, and email more frequently than I imagine is normal for her students. She was always very gracious with her time and also provided very valuable feedback on my course products that were in progress. Also, I liked that her vast knowledge and experience in the civilian HR field was augmented by her experiences as an Army Officer's spouse as I am an Army Officer. I look forward to taking future courses with Dr. Herd.
Dr. Herd is simply an amazing professor. She teaches with passion, expertise and is genuinely interested in your growth as a student and as a person.
Dr. Herd is extremely personable and approachable. Her career in personal coaching is evident in her ability to motivate and encourage students. Her approach to teaching comes from a place of being excited to learn from her students as well as sharing her experiences. That continued drive to learn is contagious, keeping her students excited to learn more.
I loved her! She is prepared and extremely organized. She helped me navigate my first online course, and I learned a lot in the process.
Dr. Herd's teaching method was instrumental in completing one of my first two graduate classes; the thought of graduate school was daunting but Dr. Herd and her class made me optimistic for the future with UofL.
Dr. Herd is very personable, very caring. She is very interested in our learning and will go above and beyond to give of her time to ensure that our needs are met for the course. -

Amy Holthouser
Medical Education
School of MedicineWhen I had a family emergency, Dr. Holthouser was the first faculty member I told. She not only made sure I was okay mentally, but immediately made sure I could go fly back to see my family without it effecting my coursework. Now with Covid19, she is advocating for us again to ensure our education doesn't suffer. We students are truly blessed to have her.
Dr. Holthouser has done an incredible job in keeping the medical school running during the COVID-19 changes and has moved mountains to keep the curriculum running and on-track. She has consistently gone above and beyond to advance medical students' interests and protections at the national level. Thank you Dr. Holthouser!
Dr. Holthouser goes above and beyond for students from the second they enter ULSOM but especially during this time. She has been working tirelessly to ensure that we know as much as possible during our schedule changes and is there for student concerns no matter what the issue is. She is an integral part of the ULSOM staff and cares about us both as students and people.
Dr. Holthouser has been a gem during (and before!) the COVID-19 crisis. She executes her duties with precision and compassion and goes above and beyond when it comes to students and their concerns. What sets her apart is her advocacy; she spearheads campaigns to help make our medical education better, both at local and national levels.
Dr. Holthouser's dedication to student wellbeing does not go unnoticed. While a known fact, this became abundantly clear during our Step 1 struggles. I speak on behalf of my entire med school class when I say how appreciative we are of everything she has done for us, especially during such an uneasy time. It is clear that she cares very deeply for her students.
She is fiercely passionate and protective of us medical students. She is always at the forefront advocating for us. Her job is far from easy but she makes it look like a cake walk and she does it in style, love and passion. I am grateful for her dedication, for scheduling weekly town halls with us, and for her caring for our sickest patients on the front line.
Has consistently gone above and beyond for her students.
Dr. Holthouser is a fierce advocate for her students, going above and beyond to help the medical students both academically and in life. She has done a tremendous job completely reorganizing the curriculum in order to keep us on track for a timely graduation, while navigating many circumstances outside her control. She deserves recognition for her effort and dedication.
Dr. Holthouser has worked tirelessly to help the medical students. She has used her influence to help enact change for medical students. She started a petition and got over 5,000 signatures to call for NBME to allow medical students to administer board exams in-house since so many students are having their test dates cancelled! -
Rachel Hopp
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesShe is very helpful and is always willing to give the credit when it is deserved. She always helps us with our tests by giving us vocabulary and study guides. This class taught me A LOT!!
Dr. Hopp is an outstanding instructor who truly cares about the success of her students. Not only that, but her knowledge of biological concepts and her ability to teach them at an introductory level are outstanding. Those who are successful in her courses would surely agree that a big chunk of our success is owed to Dr. Hopp and the hard work and dedication she puts into providing so many extra resources to better aid our understanding. She truly goes the extra mile compared to a lot of other professors, and she deserves recognition for being such a passionate biologist. She gets excited about concepts and it is truly contagious. She provides personal stories and clinical examples in every single lecture to drive the point home. If something doesn't click for you, she is available 24/7 through the Remind app and via email/office hours. She ALWAYS responds in a timely matter and has exam grades put into Blackboard usually the same day. I mean, come on. THAT IS AMAZING. If anyone deserves this award, it is Dr. Hopp.
Dr. Hopp truly cares about her students and is constantly looking for ways to help them understand and retain the material. She gives students many opportunities to receive help and takes into consideration the feedback received from students. I appreciate everything Dr. Hopp did to help me prepare for and learn in her class.
Professor Hopp is my favorite teacher from my two years here. She is so understanding and when we moved to online classes she was very straightforward with what was going on with the class. I enjoyed her lecture videos while being at home. She is very understanding in this circumstance that we are under a lot of stressors and she is ready to help us do our best.
Very caring and intelligent professor!
Always willing to go out of her way to help her students thrive in and out of the classroom.
Professor Hopp has worked harder than any other person I know to make the transition from classroom to online as easy as possible. She's been really encouraging and always keeps me motivated when I feel like I can't do any more.
Dr. Hopp is such a fantastic teacher! She works extremely hard to provide resources and a friendly atmosphere for her students. She makes great little jokes in class and analogies to keep us interested. I genuinely look forward to going to her class every day. She is approachable and respects hard-working students, which we greatly appreciate. I loved her class both of the semesters I took her.
I have had Dr. Hopp for two semesters of Anatomy, and I have learned so much in each of her classes! She was always very helpful during lectures, and has always been accessible outside of class when I needed her. She also gives us multiple study tools that she puts together herself. She spends a lot of time outside of lectures to make sure that her students are successful in her classes which contain difficult content.
The past two semesters, I have had the pleasure to call Dr. Hopp my anatomy professor. She is one of the most caring, knowledgeable, and sincere professors I have had at the university. She not only offers many resources to help her students succeed, but she also shows how much she cares by meeting with students outside of class to ensure we understand concepts. I would recommend any student interested in taking her class to do so. You will not only learn so much, but also gain an amazing mentor.
Professor Hopp is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. She deeply cares about her students and will always ask me how swimming is going when she sees me. She provides ample resources to help her students succeed. She also really values her students' feedback and wants to teach in a way that helps us learn best. Professor Hopp has introduced me to a new love for anatomy and physiology by teaching the subject in such a great way. She is able to constantly relate things to real world examples and will even send out stories she reads online of cases today relating to topics we are learning about.
Go professor Hopp!
Felt a personal connection with this professor. Great teacher.
She is very kind and caring. Opens office hours that she might not even have to help students after an exam. Wants us to pass. Makes jokes and tells stories that are interesting and help us learn.
She is very sweet and takes time to make sure her students know exactly what is going on. -

Dr. Hums worked with myself and other students to make sure that we were comfortable when presenting projects. This really made me appreciate her as a professor because it showed that she wanted us to be successful in ways that we were comfortable with.
I have never met a professor that pushes you to be the best student and do the best on her class, without holding your hand. Yet if you need something class related and even unrelated she is there for you. She goes as far to include it in her syllabus talking about if any student is in need, to reach out to her and she will help you in private from the rest of class. -
Jason Immekus
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Immekus teaches advanced statistics and makes very difficult concepts understandable and applicable to the real world of your thesis/dissertation. He has been so supportive during this pandemic and the stress it is causing. He adjusted assignments to support his students and he really makes you feel like his only true goal is for his students to learn.
Jason goes above and beyond to support his students, both in his classes and in their graduate programs. He is always quick to answer questions over email and is readily available to talk in person. He clearly cares a lot about helping his students succeed and it comes through in his teaching. -
Tamer Inanc
Electrical and Computer Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringI have studied the course of Control Systems Principles by Prof. Tamer Inanc. He delivered this course efficiently even though we had to shift to online classes due to COVID-19. The lecture notes were clear and brief. The homework included all the concepts and motivated me to think out of the box to solve the problem using tools learned in class.
Excellent skill in lecturing, great at connecting with and understanding students
Both semesters I have had Professor Inanc, he has developed exciting labs for us to work on. Professor Inanc's ability to engage students gets them excited about what they are learning and is unique. He puts a lot of time and effort into providing the most informative and enjoyable content. I would take every one of his classes if possible and suggest others to do the same.
Dr. Inanc is a great teacher. I've had him for multiple semesters and he's always willing to work with and meet with students outside of class as necessary to make sure we understand the concepts. He always comes to class cheerful and wants us to be engaged and interested in the lectures which helps us retain it better.
Dr. Inanc's dedication to his students makes him stand out as an incredible professor. During this unusual semester, he communicated very clearly about his expectations and the changes made to the course given that everything moved online. He even recorded extra lectures covering the topics we were not able to complete in case a student may need them in their profession.
Engaging. -
Billy Jackson
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Jackson sets an example for all teachers; he holds high expectations of his students and helps them in every way to get there. He recognizes the importance of the concept of learning to understand, rather than learning to memorize. He truly cares about the success of each of his students. He runs a very organized, structured, and creative math class. -
Mike Jett
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentCares about what he teaches and is always helpful. -
Robert Johmann
Comparative Humanities
College of Arts and SciencesI am a Biology/Pre-med major and when I realized I was going to have to take a humanities course as part of my Cardinal Core classes, I was less than thrilled. Throughout this course, though, Dr. Johmann has made the content that I don't particularly love something that I am interested in through his apparent passion for the subjects and makes Cultures of America (HUM 152) a class worth coming to. He is also very caring toward his students and is not only available during his office hours, but whenever needed to help a student with work or anything else they need to talk about. -
David Johnson
Health Management and Systems Sciences
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDavid is the most compassionate professor. Before the pandemic, he ensured that each student was receiving the best education possible by providing strong feedback and curating an amazing learning experience. After, David invited a licensed social worker to come talk to our class, just to help us work through the stress and grief from the immense changes we went through.
Dr. Johnson is a talented and dedicated professor and mentor who inspires students through his passion for public health.
I would like to nominate professor David Johnson for this. -
Tina Johnson
Kent School of Social WorkProfessor Johnson has been the best Professor that I have encountered in my college career. Even when she came down with COVID 19, she contacted her students to make sure everyone had what they needed and were staying strong. I do not believe I could have made it through the rest of this semester without her kind words. -
Sheila Johnston
Accounting
College of BusinessMs. Johnston was an absolutely wonderful introduction to the University of Louisville. She was my first class of the week and I always looked forward to attending. It is abundantly clear that she cares deeply about her students, their success, and their understanding of the material. Her teaching style is clear and concise but she occasionally spices the content up with accounting horror stories or other interesting facts. She did not go easy on exams, but this resulted in proper reward for students who worked hard, attended class, and knew the material. Throughout my years of school, I would say Ms. Johnston is one of the few educators I have had who truly appears to enjoy teaching. If she taught another class I needed credit for, I would take her again in a heartbeat. I have already recommended her to friends. A student would be lucky to be taught by Ms. Johnston. -
Gabriel Jones
Youth Violence Prevention Research Center
School of Public Health and Information SciencesHe is the most passionate professor I have ever had, and he provides such an open and respectful classroom. Learning in his class is legitimately so fun and exciting.
Throughout this entire pandemic experience, Mr. Jones has been nothing short of spectacular in his transition to online teaching. He has never failed to represent his students, reach out to us individually, and make us feel like one big family. Please consider recognizing him for his amazing work that he has been doing and will continue to do at our university. -

Mehmed Kantardzic
Computer Science and Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Kantardzic is the best professor I have ever seen. I did two independent studies with him alongside taking his graduate-level data mining class. Never got bored in his class. -
Theresa Keeley
History
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Keeley goes out of her way to make her class accessible to all of her students. I've had her for a 500 level class before, and now I have her for a 300 level class. She takes into account the skills and abilities of her students, and isn't stuck in her ways. She creates assignments that are unique and more engaging than simply writing papers. She makes sure students know about the resources on campus such as the ConcernCenter, which shows she cares about us outside of the classroom. I think she's one of the kindest professors I've had at UofL, and I have genuinely enjoyed her classes more than most. -
Richard Keeling
Comprehensive Dentistry
School of DentistryDr. Keeling has been a shining star in the dental school with getting things done. He works incredibly hard to help get the appointment and patient care moving forward. -
Frank Kelderman
English
College of Arts and SciencesFrank has been one of my favorite professors during my time at the University of Louisville. I have never met someone as excited as he is to teach. Every class, he was so excited for us to read our materials and respond to them. He was genuinely curious about our thoughts on the book we were reading, and enjoyed getting our feedback. He was very inclusive and is an ally to anyone that may need it. He is always available to help, and a great professor. The day before Thanksgiving, he taught us not only the history of Thanksgiving, but he also brought us a little treat for the holidays. We also celebrated his birthday with him and all of his students were happy to celebrate that day with him. He has continuously encouraged me to work harder and believe in myself and Frank deserves to be recognized for the great work he does. -

She has been a great support through my degree and a wonderful professor. -
Stephen Kendra

Elizabeth Kimbell
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesShe has gone above and beyond. This is not only my first online class, but my first class in 25 years. She was perfect for both. This professor was extremely helpful from the start. Her class schedule is well thought out and she adapted wonderfully when covid 19 forced adaptations. Overall, I learned quite a bit from this instructor and this class. -
Katherine Ray King

Suzanne Kingery
Pediatric Endocrinology
School of MedicineDr. Kingery was very helpful with my learning. She let me come to her office and explain concepts to her and helped me fill in the gaps. As my PBL instructor, she was just as great too and really helped me solidify my knowledge while also giving her clinical experience as supplement. Great person and great teacher! -
Audrey Kline
Economics
College of BusinessBest professor I've had thus far.
In the first ever online MBA cohort, Dr. Kline was our first instructor. She seamlessly introduced us to UofL and to each other and prepared us for our journey. As an experienced economics instructor she showed us how to succeed through her student-centered, positive and supportive approach. She's the BEST!
Dr. Kline is one of the most patient and considerate instructors I have had. I came to every class and she was always very thorough with the subject matter. She was always willing to help me during her office hours which was a lot and she never got upset or flustered with me when I failed to grasp concepts. She just always kept her calm and walked me through it until I was able to figure it out.
Dr. Kline makes the class interesting and fun to learn.
She's awesome.
Audrey Kline truly cares about not only the success of her students, but their well being as well. She has made tremendous efforts to make herself available outside of the classroom to support students in academics and beyond. In these uncertain times, she has gone out of her way to make it known to each of her students that she is there for us in any way that she can be.
As an economics professor, she was fully engaged in helping students understand the material and relate it to work experience. Each student had multiple venues to process the content and apply it._x000D_ Dr. Kline is always available to support students regardless of the situation or time of day. She cares about people and she cares about the program. -
Charles Kodner
Family Medicine
School of MedicineDr. Kodner has been one of the most caring, compassionate, and dedicated educators I have had the privilege of learning from during medical school. He cares so much about all of his patients and med students. He is an excellent role model and I hope to treat all of my future patients with the same degree of care and compassion.
One of the best in the School of Medicine!
Dr. Kodner deserves to be recognized for being such a good and caring role model for so many medical students.
Just an incredible guy, all around. I was lucky to learn from him!
Dr. Kodner has been an invaluable asset to the med school as a whole and to my own personal education. His caring nature and wisdom is something that every one of his students has benefited from. The tireless work and efforts that he has put into building ULSOM, ICC, the SP program, the FM clerkship, and so many other parts of this school are beyond deserving of some recognition.
Dr. Kodner always takes time to challenge his students to think for themselves, instead of just memorizing information for a test. His primary goal is to make his students more compassionate doctors who have the skills to connect to patients and promote mutual trust and respect. Dr. Kodner is encouraging and fun to learn from.
Dr. Kodner was instrumental in our education throughout all four years.
Dr. Kodner truly cares about his students and about teaching us the things that don't come from textbooks. He has always championed for his students, advocated for his patients, and really taken an interest in people's lives. He understands how to have difficult conversations and teaches those of us who have never done anything like that how to be comfortable in that role.
Dr. Kodner has been an inspiration to all of his students for so many years. He has supported me through a personal rough patch, and I will be forever grateful. He teaches with compassion and humor, and we will all remember his life lessons.
Dr. Kodner has been a part of my medical school experience from the very beginning. His lectures on all aspects of being a physician were full of wisdom, compassion, and humor. Throughout the years he has taught all UofL medical students the importance of being a good listener and having a little bit of fun, but most importantly, being a great doctor.
Dr. Kodner was a teacher you always looked forward to hearing a lecture from or learning from in the clinic. He taught us how to be inquisitive, empathetic young doctors, typically with some much appreciated fantasy/D&D; humor. I'm a better young doctor because of my time with Dr. Kodner.
He has such a unique and effective teaching style and has always been so understanding to his students and patients' needs.
A truly dedicated and caring teacher and physician who has impacted all of us more than any other physician in our medical training.
Simply put, Dr. Kodner is one of the most compassionate and selfless individuals I have ever had the privilege of meeting.
No one cares for or is a bigger advocate for students than Dr. Kodner.
Dr. Kodner is a compassionate physician, an advocate for his patients, and a champion for his students. He has taught me about medicine beyond the textbooks that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Most importantly, Dr. Kodner reminds us all of the true, giving heart of a physician.
Dr. Kodner is incredibly kind and intelligent. His wit is only rivaled by his heart for students which is extraordinarily evident when teaching. He mentors us in all aspects of life in addition to the curriculum, serving at many extracurricular panel discussions. He fights for the inclusion of all and does so with the utmost respect that we all strive for as future physicians. -
Avery Kolers
Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Kolers is both an incredible teacher and a true role model for the community. He is passionate about his field, and is always willing to go above and beyond to help students. When our entire curriculum was overhauled in the wake of COVID19, she is was right there making effective and proactive changes to support our learning. She checks in on us, creates assignments to help us learn more effectively, and takes action to make sure we feel heard.
Dr. Korte is my favorite instructor! She has worked hard to design a Peds rotation that is enjoyably & educational for students. I learned a lot from working with her, observing her sense of compassion and support for patients and families in the midst of difficult situations. I hope to be the kind of physician, instructor and patient advocate that she is one day! -
Elizabeth Krauss
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentElizabeth is thorough in her explanations and expectations. She responds immediately with feedback that is thoughtful and purposeful. I believe she truly cares about the success of her students, continually communicating and encouraging us.
For someone who hasn't been back to college in over 15 years, Ms. Krauss made the transition back into college very easy for me. I appreciate the hard work she put into her thorough lessons week after week. She really simplified every lesson which made it easy for me to understand. I've learned so much from her course that I have been able to apply to my everyday life and I can't thank her enough! It is for this reason Ms. Krauss should be one of the top nominees for favorite educator! -
Daniel Krebs
History
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Krebs is my favorite professor at UofL. I took three of his courses in military history, and I enjoyed his lectures and the assignment papers I wrote for him. And not only is he also a soldier in the German Reserves (myself and many other veterans/active soldiers in the U.S. Military at UofL can relate to him in many ways) he always made sure to mention the morals of warfare every now and then. I will miss taking his courses when I graduate this semester. -
Pin Chuang Lai
General Dentistry and Oral Medicine
School of DentistryDr. Lai is not only a great clinician but an excellent teacher. He works very hard in the clinic at UofL School of Dentistry making sure all his students are on track and learning. He takes as much time as necessary to make sure you understand the task at hand, even when he doesn't have time to do so because he covers so many students. He is a selfless person who always has a great attitude in the clinic. He is undoubtedly deserving of the faculty favorite award. -

Lee Larson
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesI started out the semester cursing after every quiz. But now at the end of the semester I have learned to appreciate the weekly quizzes professor Larson gives as a way to know what I am currently struggling with. Professor Larson is incredibly knowledgeable about the course material for Math 205 and is able to communicate that material effectively to students. I was terrified of Calculus at the start of the semester but feel confident now after a semester with Professor Larson.
Amazing professor, very down the earth and knows what he's doing. -
Adrian Lauf
Computer Science and Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Lauf really made the class interesting and fun. He helped make up gaps in the students' knowledge and was very receptive to ideas on how to make the course better. He was also able to really quickly adapt to the COVID crisis. This is not easy because he had to rewrite all the labs.
He's the kind of professor who can make difficult topics easy to understand. He also does his best to make lecture interesting._x000D_ If I have the option to take a class with him, that's the choice I'd make.
Being Knowledgeable in the field of his expertise and able to transfer that knowledge is one of the main requirements of a professor. _x000D_ Carrying all these specifications, Dr. Lauf made the class an enjoyable environment to learn and expand knowledge. Being reachable and there for the students in case of any question or problem made him to be a favorite professor of mine.
Dr. Lauf did an amazing job with the move over to online learning and is clearly dedicated to his students.
Dr. Lauf is one of the most impressionable professors that I have had at UofL. He presents the information with knowledge and leaves us informed and educated. His courses are interesting and fun.
Very knowledgeable and gifted at explaining complicated topics in simple terms. Really cares about the material and making sure everyone in class has an understanding of the curriculum.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been difficult for his microcomputer class (CSE525) because it's purely lab based. Yet he has done so much more than my other professors, who teach only lecture based classes. Yet he still apologizes for not providing us with enough.
He was entertaining and genuine. Really felt like he cared about the material and students. Also adapted very well to online shift despite challenges of doing so for a hardware course.
Dr. Lauf clearly is very knowledgeable and passionate regarding the subjects he teaches and definitely cares about his students.
Dr. Lauf made incredible efforts to engage students and make every resource available to support their success. Throughout the semester (especially once classes went online), he enabled and trusted an ongoing dialogue with his students about their success and well-being. He balanced challenging students in meaningful ways and working in terms they were capable of. -
Mark Leach

College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Leach challenged us to think critically throughout the semester, leading to great class discussion. I am leaving the class with not only an increase in my knowledge of the course content, but a genuine interest in the topic and wanting to continue to learn more after the course concludes. -

Ryan Luke
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Luke is awesome! He's very approachable, a great professor, and he makes learning fun!
Dr. Luke did a great job decreasing our anxiety around statistics and math in general. His use of application-based learning helped me truly learn the material.
Dr. Ryan Luke is an amazing professor! I really struggled with statistics within my nursing school program, and had to retake the course. He so graciously accepted my request to take the course with him._x000D__x000D_ On the first day of class he asked about anxiety and how we best learn! He broke down all the information so that we thoroughly understand and were able to apply and use it on our own! If we had any questions he did not hesitate to provide his assistance! I feel that I gained so much information that I can apply in my future nursing endeavors! He went above and beyond for my statistics class and I brag on him all the time to my nursing cohorts! I even asked him to switch over to the nursing side and come teach us! He is an amazing teacher and I will miss him being my teacher!_x000D__x000D_ I recommend Dr. Ryan Luke!
Dr. Luke is an amazing professor who truly cares about each of his students. When walking into my Statistics class, I must admit I was filled with anxiety. From day one, Dr. Luke made sure each student understood the material being presented and he was always available to lend a helping hand. I found myself excited to attend my statistics class and part of the reason was because of his teaching style and his teaching methods. He never once made anyone feel bad or judged for asking questions or for not understanding. I wholeheartedly recommended Dr. Luke for the Faculty Favorite Award. -
Courtney Lush
REACHBest math teacher experience I've ever had. Never had a problem asking for help or getting the help I needed. -

Keith Lyle
Psychological and Brain Sciences
College of Arts and SciencesWhatever I write here truly won't do Dr. Lyle justice. Simply put, Dr. Lyle is the best professor at UofL, and I think it's a great shame that he has not been recognized as a Top Faculty Favorite before. I have never had a professor who is as invested in the courses he/she teaches, and sincerely motivated to see his/her students succeed. His lectures are always thought-provoking and entertaining. Moreover, he has a talent for demystifying even the most recondite of subjects. Overall, it has been a privilege to have Dr. Lyle as a professor.
Dr. Lyle is the best professor I have had in my 7.5 years at the University of Louisville. Throughout both my undergraduate and graduate careers, Dr. Lyle has been consistently providing myself and students with the best possible education money (lots of it) can buy! GO KEITH!
Dr. Lyle instructed the best course I've taken at UofL throughout both my undergraduate and graduate programs. I truly believe he fosters the spirit of academia through his course.
He is very thoughtful and always has something knowledgeable to share.
Dr. Keith Lyle approaches each aspect of his work with savvy and enthusiasm.

College of Arts and SciencesI have had Professor Makris for three semesters, and each semester I've enjoyed having her as a professor. She is witty, flexible, and very kind. She facilitates a calm, welcoming learning environment and is an amazing professor.
She's absolutely amazing. She put her students first and always is willing to help no matter what. She will email quickly if the student is unable to meet in person.
Prof. Makris is such a humble and kind person. She has used every opportunity she had to speak to students about their dreams and desires and gone far beyond the scope of her duties to make her students feel loved and at home. She has made my transition to college so much better because she has given me tips and tools to make the most of my college experience. The first questions that she always asks us on Monday morning is, "Que hacen el fin de semana" which means something like "What did you do over the weekend?" She actually cares to listen and respond with meaningful conversation that wholeheartedly relates her to us and to our learned material. She has reminded me that the professors have hearts and are people too. She has been my absolute favorite part of my first semester here at the University of Louisville. She is a gem who works to make sure her students shine bright. -

Ashlee Marshall

College of Arts and SciencesThis professor has changed the way I look at the world (for the better), and changed the way that I communicate with people which is very important. Such an easygoing professor who understands that even though we are students, we are HUMANS too. Forever grateful to have had her as a professor.
Ashlee Marshall is a professor who truly cares about her students. Not only does she want us to succeed in her class, she also wants us to succeed in life. She made interpersonal skills an enjoyable class to take. She really cared about our growth in her class. She made sure to recognize our hard work and was overall one of the kindest, most genuine professors I've had. -
Allison Martens
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesI have taken several distance learning courses, and Dr. Martens's "Judicial Politics" excelled both in course design and in instructor execution. She chose an excellent textbook, gave us weekly lecture slides that complemented assigned textbook chapters, provided supplemental readings and substantive videos, and wrote detailed remarks in her scoring of our three exams. Most valuable to me was her introduction of two checkpoints in the development process for the course's 2500-word research paper. She helped me select and narrow my topic with thoughtful suggestions during her weekly "office hour" sessions, which she conducted using the Blackboard Collaborate Ultra tool. She got me to work hard and produce a term paper I can feel proud of. -
Liz Martin
Kent School of Social WorkLiz Martin made my learning experience great! The course material was fun and easy to understand. Liz communicated well to the class. -

Dr. Masters keeps a very exciting and engaging class and I enjoy learning from him. -
Samia Mathew

College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Mathew is so great. She is fun, kind, and truly wants her students to succeed and enjoy learning.
Professor Samia Mathew has been one of the most caring and understanding professors that I have had at UofL. She is very passionate about learning and wants all of her students to succeed! -
Lali McCubbin
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. McCubbin has been a fantastic professor. This was my first semester of Graduate school and she answered any questions that I had. After receiving my disabilities letter via email she scheduled a one-on-one meeting to get to know me better and understand my disabilities and my needs for success in her class. She had a great window of office hours, and checked her email regularly. She made me feel like she really cared about my success in the program and the ability to learn what she was teaching. I have never had a professor email me to set up a meeting regarding my disabilities letter and I also have an undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville in Psychology. She is very kind and cares about you as not just a student, but as someone outside of the program. She tries to learn more about you and the learning styles that work best for you during her class. She gave a lot of good resources and wanted to make sure that every student was successful in her class. I really appreciated that she cares about her students' success in the classroom and outside of the classroom. I am taking another class she is teaching next semester. She is a very kind person and a good example of a great professor.
Dr. McCubbin is incredibly kind and has an intuitive ability to meet students where they are in their journey of learning and development. She is a tireless advocate for students, devoted to protecting and supporting us however she can. I know that I can go to her whenever I have worries or concerns and she will truly hear me and respond with warmth and compassion. I have learned SO MUCH from her, both in the professional realm and in terms of balancing work with self-care, and I see her as an inspiration for how to approach research and clinical work from an ethical and culturally humble stance. Our program and department are lucky to have her! :) -
Laura McGarity

College of Arts and SciencesProfessor McGarity is the BEST Professor I've had so far at UofL. Josh McKee
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentJosh is a fantastic instructor! He did a great job facilitating discussion and making even the most mundane of organizational theories seem interesting and meaningful. The assignments we completed and the content we covered will actually apply to my future career. I genuinely looked forward to class each week, even after we moved online. Thanks for a great semester, Josh! -
Keith McKnight
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesKeith helped me to switch to a math class that better fit my work schedule which happened to be his class. I had taken this class two other times at a different college so I was very nervous to try a third time. Keith made sure he was available to answer every question and cheered me on every step of the way. I ended up finishing 103 and 104 in one semester and it would not have been possible without his encouragement and support. He often made time to meet with me in the tutoring center outside of class and helped me map out my homework assignments to be able to complete both courses. Keith helped my confidence level and catered his teaching in a way that made sense to me. He truly goes above and beyond. -
Alison McLeish

Rodney Merkley
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Merkley has been the most kind, helpful, and influential professor in my masters program. He always makes himself available for one-on-one conversations and questions, and structures his classes in a way that sets up his students for success. There have been many times that I have had questions or needed work reviewed, and his response is always quick and detailed, offering as much guidance as possible. I was lucky enough to have him as my professor for my capstone course and one other, which I believe is one of the contributing factors to my success in this program. -
Cynthia Metz
Physiology
School of MedicineShe's€™s amazing. The best teacher I have ever had and makes the toughest concepts so simple to understand. She's€™s truly gifted and deserves to win.
n/a
Dr. Metz has a great teaching style and really engages her students. She makes learning a large, dense class manageable and enjoyable. One of the best professors I have ever had.
Dr. Metz makes learning difficult physiology concepts extremely palatable. I can guarantee that without the support Dr. Metz has given us, in and out of the classroom, our fist semester in graduate school would've been a lot more difficult and very unpleasant. She is a ray of light in the darkness that is graduate school, please acknowledge her hard work and dedication.
Dr. Metz makes learning fun and easy. We have daily quizzes that do not require a ton of studying because she actually teaches you the subject while in class. She uses graphics and in-class activities that keep students engaged throughout lecture. Dr. Metz is THE BEST professor I have ever had. -
Lawrence Michalcyzk
Kent School of Social WorkHe checked in with me through email about once a week or more to see how I was doing in my state and dealing with the coronavirus. He made sure we knew everything the school was doing to keep us all safe, receive fair grading, and kept up his good humor throughout the course. I enjoyed his class very much! -

She is always quick to answer course-related questions and I have even had responses from her in the middle of the night. Luke Milligan
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Milligan taught me Criminal Procedure and Constitutional Law in the Spring 2020 semester. Professor Milligan has been an incredible mentor to me and is worthy of recognition because he puts in extra time and effort to help his students. Also, he is easily the best lecturer I have ever had. -
Jessica Minges
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesShe did a really great job transitioning the class over to online! We still had a weekly class (this class was once a week), she remained in good contact with the class, and was quick to answer any questions we had! She made us laugh and have a great time while learning. It was huge help to have some kind of structure and normalcy during this time! -
Erin Mires
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Erin Mires has wonderful energy and facilitates meaningful conversation that leads to new insights. Her instruction on assignments was valuable and I greatly enjoyed her videos which enabled me to be more successful in the class. She comes across inspired and genuine wanting everyone to learn and succeed. She goes the extra mile and deserves frequent high-fives!
Dr. Mires has set the example for all other online professors to emulate during her fundamentals in HR course. Her ability to make an online class personal and unique to each student through the use of case studies, creation of a wiki, and openness to feedback has set my experience for all other online courses. Dr. Mires has no doubt made a significant impact on my academic career. She is an example of "what right looks like." I look forward to learning more about Human Resources when I enroll in the graduate program and take a course under her guidance.
Professor Mires has been tremendously helpful in my time at U of Louisville. She has been both very understanding and a good mentor. She's guided me along my path, been very helpful when I've hit obstacles, always made herself available when I needed assistance, and always been encouraging about my talent and skills in this program. She's reassured me and supported me in more ways than I can recall or that I deserve. I don't know that I'd be graduating without her.
Across the board this teacher is the best one I've had the privilege to meet. Excellent communicator in all facets and never misses a message, call or email. That's impressive considering the workload many of the instructors have. She leverages all of the media available as well, which is integral in facilitating comprehension of new concepts or tools we've not encountered before. She is extremely knowledgeable on a wide variety of subject matters related to this degree program. Finally, Dr. Mires may be one of the most positive people I've encountered at U of L! Optimists are not common, and she never hesitates to bring the energy level up regardless of the situation. -
Amanda Mitchell
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Mitchell has been a light in what has been a really difficult semester for me. She teaches courses that are traditionally very difficult for students, and does so in such a way that has made me feel consistently supported and understood. I have come to her multiple times in a complete panic, and she handles every bump in the road with grace and patience. She is truly a wonderful asset to the Counseling Psychology program, and the University as a whole. She represents all of our values so well, and puts her all into her work and her students. I can't imagine a more deserving faculty member.
Dr. M is everything you could want in a professor and role model. Professional, yet has a sense of humor; has high expectations, yet has compassion and demonstrates flexibility; extremely knowledgeable about what she teaches, yet able to explain at a level her students understand. I feel seen and cared about when I enter her classroom. She's the best! -
Heather Mitchell
School of NursingA
She has been so helpful in this whole process of the change to online lectures.
Dr. Mitchell has always been a great and engaging lecturer, but during this uncertain time, she was a source of strength and information. She always does everything she can to make sure we are comfortable with our material, and checked in on us to make sure we were just generally okay.
Heather Mitchell and Ashleigh Humphrey went above and beyond to make sure every single student was doing okay in this COVID-19 crisis. They were there for me to listen not only about classroom content but about my personal issues. They are the best thing to ever happen to the University of Louisville School of Nursing.
Dr. Mitchell is the best instructor I have ever had. The way she teaches, it just clicks. She truly cares about her students and wants us to succeed.
Dr. Mitchell has been the most supportive instructor. From reaching out just to check on us, to ensuring that she thinks about how her decisions will affect each student in our cohort, she has been so great and such a great role model for us. Fall 2020 cohort appreciates what she has done more than she knows. Thank you so much for everything, you are seriously the best!!!!
Literally the greatest human being ever.
She did an amazing job adapting to the new online format and made sure it went smoothly for the students during this uncertain time.
Always positive and going out of her way to ensure the best for her students and our success! She is everything!!!
Heather Mitchell is an amazing professor who has truly helped nursing students so much with all of the changes that have occurred due to the coronavirus outbreak. Heather Mitchell helped us out significantly by allowing us to stay well-informed and making it so much easier to transition online. She has been there for us 110% of the time.
Dr. Mitchell is probably the best professor/instructor in the entire School of Nursing faculty. She strives to ensure student success, she truly wants everyone to succeed, and she is always available to students no matter what they need!
Dr. Heather Mitchell did a great job encouraging and helping out the nursing students in MOC2 this Spring, on top being a phenomenal teacher. When she explains nursing concepts, I feel like I really understand the material. Her exam material is set up to test our understanding, but also to help us critically think in order to succeed as an RN and pass the NCLEX.
She always tries her best to help us succeed in any way possible that she can!
For me, she is the best professor I have had at UofL. She is really good at breaking down complicated subjects so that you can understand and retain important information.
Heather Mitchell has truly made a seamless transition during this time. She truly cares for her students. She has been so understanding. Thank you for all you do Dr. Mitchell
She knows her stuff! Awesome professor! -
Riten Mitra
Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Mitra is extremely patient and understanding. It's easy to communicate any doubts and I would like to thank him for the important discussions we had while modifying my thesis. He is very friendly and helpful, and open to new ideas.
I have done courses for 3 semesters under the guidance of Prof. Mitra, with fall 2019 being the latest. Highlight of Prof. Mitra's teaching is his "personalized approach" for students. Each student in the class feels that the lecture is personalized according to his/her need and background! So, all his lectures are super interesting which also underscores his very strong hold on the material he teaches. A major plus point of his teaching is his vast experience in different areas of Biostatistics and Probability research. He spellbinds students with examples from his research which helps them to understand what is going on in real life! On the research side, he is the person with whom you can discuss for hours, all the ideas you have however stupid they are, but he will listen to all of them and help to develop a meaningful collage of the ideas. He will help you right from finding a constructive idea to the end till when writing a meaningful conclusion. He gives his students ample freedom of experimentation while learning. On a personal note, for any kind of help he is the go to person! He can play a role of friend, philosopher, elder brother very swiftly! He definitely deserves to be a Faculty Favorite award winner! -
Olivia Mittel
Medical Student Affairs
School of MedicineShe is amazing! She just had a beautiful little girl (who joins in on our meetings to brighten our days) and she came back to a world of COVID19 with such grace! She has been doing online meetings with every third year medical student and reminding us that we can do this. Her positivity and kindness means so much to us! -
Chad Money
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Money is the most passionate professor I have ever met. His deep interest in all things math-related is contagious. His lectures are always very precise, thorough, and intriguing. In class, he is always open for questions and rigorous intellectual discussion. However, his dedication to students doesn't just stop in the classroom. In his office hours, he will stop at nothing to make sure you understand the material, and he explains complex math concepts in an easy to understand way, just like Einstein would like it. -
Phillip Moore
Middle and Secondary Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentProfessor Moore is such an encouraging and great teacher, he goes above and beyond the expectations as a teacher would. Going into Introduction to Teaching I was a bit nervous but he made the class very interesting and fun! He has pushed me to reach my goals of becoming a teacher, and not push me away. -
Samantha Morris
Elementary, Middle and Secondary Teacher Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Morris made math really enjoyable for me. I was sad that I didn't get to be in class for the whole semester!
Mrs. Morris was a great mentor and phenomenal professor. She not only cared about teaching materials in her class but cared a lot about how we were feeling as students. Her materials for the class helped my understanding of the subject and her personality actually made me want to learn. Her passion for education wore off on her students and I think she deserves this award.
Mrs. Morris took the time to listen to our academic concerns and did everything in her power to have these concerns addressed. She is a wonderful professor!
Prof. Morris went above and beyond to get to know and accommodate her students this semester. She took the time during the beginning of the course to hear our opinions about how we felt about our classes, program, etc., which no professor has done before. This meant a lot to our cohort because it was a first in our four years that someone has asked how we felt. -
Charlie Moyer
Finance
College of BusinessWe finished class on 2/7 but on 3/20, he sent an email to us telling us how he didn't want to be strangers saying, "If you have questions, concerns, suggestions about this new form of learning/if the virus is impacting you, etc., reach out to me. I will provide an understanding and compassionate ear." This is what it's about: relationships that go beyond the classroom.
I am nominating Dr. Charlie Moyer because his class was probably the hardest class of my MBA career but the most useful and beneficial to my future. He knew going into our class that not all of us were going to be finance savvy so he made the class really enjoyable. He is a true gem to the Louisville community and to the University of Louisville. -
Robin Mozer
English
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Mozer doubles as an advisor and a professor, and her duality shows through in the classroom. The class I'm currently taking ”English 304“ is doubling as a survey and a workshopping class. I had no idea I was interested in Creative Non-fiction, but this class has helped me realize that this is something I want to look into for my future as a writer. Professor Mozer had a lot of technical difficulties this semester with her faculty computer losing all of her work, but she still managed to pull through with a creative portfolio proposition and re-writing all of her assignments in a timely manner. Her classes were informal enough to feel comfortable speaking, yet formal enough to recognize that it was indeed a learning environment. She is an invaluable asset to the University of Louisville, and to the English Department as a whole. -
Mary Mudd
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesMary Mudd is by far my favorite instructor that I have had at UofL. She is intelligent and extremely passionate about women and gender studies and it really pulls in her students, giving them a passion for the subject. -

Plus he is funny and makes a 5:30pm-6:45pm biochemistry class enjoyable. He is great. -

Professor Neal is one of the nicest and most selfless Professor I have met. She is truly amazing.
Dr. Neal is so caring and compassionate as a teacher and an individual. She made it enjoyable to learn about nutrition and our bodies. I love Dr. Neal and she deserves to be recognized for her dedication!
Professor Neal is a pillar to the Public Heath department. Her kindness and understanding to her students far surpasses expectations. Always there to lend advance or a textbook. Her amazing soul shines through even in tough times.

College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Noble has dedicated so much time and effort to this university, and this is his last semester doing so. He is a genuine, humorous, and down-to-earth professor who truly cares for his students'€™ success and well-being.
Everyone in his class is going to miss him next semester. He understands the content so well and it is so easy to understand everything he writes and says. Not to mention, his demonstrations help to explain the content as well as amuse us.

Michael Perlin
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Perlin is a dedicated individual that encourages the use of your voice to represent yourself and the academic enrichment of all students.
Dr. Perlin is an excellent professor. He is very passionate about teaching genetics, so much so, that I actually enjoy his lecture. When we went online, he didn't change his lecture structure and that was important to me; I felt like I was actually in class. He was very understanding of what we all were going though, and for that I think he deserves this award.
Very nice and helpful, learn a lot in his lab and class -

Dr. Petruska has such a unique way of educating medical students through her stories and anecdotes that it truly draws you in and you forget it's even a class. Not only is he a tremendous professor, but he takes the time to support every student in their journey. His mentorship will define every student's career and will leave a lasting impact on the legal field.
Professor Powell, it an outstanding professor who cares about his students and their success. Even though Professor Powell is not familiar with online teaching, he continued his lectures with a positive attitude. He heard and understood student concerns about the course that arose during unprecedented times.
Professor Powell is my only professor to continue teaching after the whole pandemic shut down the school. He gets up every morning and puts on a suit and teaches for us despite the circumstances. He said he will never check out on us( meaning all of his students).
Professor Powell has handled the transition from in class to online very well and I feel I still am able to have a good handle on the information. -

College of Arts and SciencesDr. Powers is great! He is great at making sure all the students understand the material and is willing to help when we don't. Math isn't my favorite subject, but I always look forward to going to his class. -
Patrick Pranke
Comparative Humanities
College of Arts and SciencesAfter transferring to the University of Louisville with an undecided path and a litany of biology and chemistry courses from my past three years I was at a loss for where to go on my academic journey. In a moment of enlightenment (pun definitely intended) I signed up for Buddhist Scriptures in order to fulfill an Arts & Humanities: Cardinal Core Elective taught by Patrick Pranke. It was, I kid you not, my first full course I walked into at UofL and it was by far the most life-altering course I have ever taken. We have stayed in contact over the semesters since and now are doing an Independent Study together, where every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. we get together to talk scripture and I can expand the bounds of my educational understanding. Some days we won't snap back into reality until three or so hours after the class, realizing we were lost in our conversation and completely induced in a trance. I have never had someone more accommodating and patient towards curiosity than Dr. Pranke. He consistently encourages my questions, organizes my train of thought, and pushes me to keep thinking and dive deeper into practicing critical thinking and employing knowledge over fantasy. I am completely gifted to know that I have found an utterly amazing mentor, a compassionate leader, and a dear friend.

College of Education and Human DevelopmentErica went above and beyond this semester. She transitioned 2 of my classes online flawlessly when the pandemic hit and is always on top on communication with her students. She grades assignments quickly and give fantastic feedback.
Erica served as both our group supervisor and individual supervisor for practicum and she taught our Autism Strategies and Techniques class. She took on so many roles for our cohort this semester and she went above and beyond in all of her positions.
She has provided wonderful and helpful feedback on my HAT assignment and has truly spent time editing and helping me make my project better. Anytime any of us felt stressed or overwhelmed, she always extended her hand and stayed after class to help ease our worries and help us to understand material or give us advice/opinions to help our projects.
Erica has been the best throughout the semester and transition to online. She makes herself available to our cohort constantly and is always super helpful. I had an online meeting with her, in which my boyfriend overheard her and thought she was a friend because of how delightful she was. -

College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Rappaport moved to Louisville to take her position at U of L this semester and deserves recognition for the wonderful job she is doing. She has been one of the best professors; she will stay after our 2 1/2 hour class to discuss problems, customize the material for our understanding and has been a wonderful resource of knowledge for our cohort. I will be excited if she's my supervisor during my practicum because how comfortable I am around her already.
Dr. Rappaport is a very encouraging and inspiring instructor. She had to face a lot of curveballs with our course because it was her first time teaching here, but she handled all of the challenges really well and made the course work for us. She was kind to everyone, good at answering our questions quickly and wording things in a way we could understand, and seemed to really care about her students. I feel lucky that I got to have her as my professor! -
Christina Raymer-Noe
Advising
College of Arts and SciencesAn amazing advisor that goes out of her way to ensure students' lives are together and helps answer questions about that student's life. Christina has helped me, and many other students that I know. When a student has a problem I immediately direct them to Christina because I know she will help in any way that she can. -
Liza Reader
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentProfessor Reader really is a great teacher. Not only does she ALWAYS answer questions that anyone asks, but she knows our names! That really speaks volumes to me. She even swept the dust off of the floor for us in the lab the other day. She is always willing to help, no matter what. Even though her class is challenging, I can honestly say that I have learned so much from her and I retain the information that she teaches us. She should absolutely win the Faculty Favorite Award because she is always there for her students.
Professor Reader is an AMAZING educator! She always makes sure her students understand the material and is always eager to help!
In the two classes I have had Professor Reader for, she has both challenged and encouraged me to do my best. She's the kind of professor that pushes you and doesn't let you just get by. Everything she does and the way she runs her classes is for the students success and she is always available and willing to help. She is one of the professors that inspired me to switch my focus from going to med school to something I was actually more interested in, in sports medicine and athletic training. Her classes and the way she conducts them have also encouraged me to do better at taking care of my body and health so that I can not only improve in my sport but also just live a healthier life for myself and as I pursue a future career in helping others.
Liza was a great professor who really cares about the student in every aspect of a professor whether it is from an intellectual standpoint or from a personal standpoint.
I am inspired by her knowledge and passion for the subjects she teaches.
Professor Reader has made my experience here at the University of Louisville more then I could have asked for. She has made going to class every week enjoyable and exciting. She is the reason I am going into the field I am because she truly has made me fall in love with strength and conditioning. If anyone deserves this Professor Reader does and I cannot thank her enough.
She has been by far the most knowledgeable Professor I've had throughout my time here. I've been here for awhile (part-time student). She's tough but fair. I have really enjoyed her class. -

College of Education and Human DevelopmentVery supportive and knowledgeable academic advisor.
Dr Rose's facilitation methods and level of experience and motivation was unmatched.
Dr. Rose switched roles from Prof to peer when he attended the SHRM study. It was fun to learn with him & to see him apply the expertise he has and still be stumped by the SHRM way of things. Laura Rothstein
Law Instruction
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Rothstein is a real treasure of University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. She is an excellent professor and her academic resume speaks for itself. However, I am nominating Professor Rothstein because she really cares about every single one of her students. She remembers in conversation my out-of-state hometown, what kind of dogs that I have, and all the places I am interviewing. One day in class she had made a digital birthday card for a student who loved Harry Potter, even though that student hadn't mentioned it since her fun fact on the first day. Also, at the end of every class she tells us to "do something fun." At the beginning of every class she asks "what was the fun thing you did?" She wants us to learn and that is obvious. However, her commitment to the all around well being of her students and her desire to see every one of us succeed and be happy is what really sets her apart. -

She tosses us into the fire of mediation, but she doesn't let us burn. She guides us through the process with the authority of a professor and the respect of a colleague. Shelley is not one to sugar coat. She is preparing us for the reality of the struggles and triumphs of our positions. She does so while reminding us that laughter is important, hard work can be fun, and that one professor can validate your choice to pursue this crazy dream of law.

He combines a lighthearted personality in the classroom, a seriousness about the scholarly work he teaches, and wholehearted care for the success and well-being of his students. He made a course for which I had low expectations the one that I could not wait to attend every week. I walked away with greater knowledge and a deeper appreciation for the literature we read. I also left with greater writing and critical thinking skills. I am certain that Professor Turner could create this same experience regardless of the content which is what compels me to nominate him!
Joseph Turner was always really into what we were learning in class, and he always made the conversation and assignments interesting yet exciting. He always gave constructive criticism to better our writing and help us grow as individuals. _x000D_ He also lets previous students know of events coming up and I just think it's great he still thinks about us even after he's had us. Absolute beast. Great teacher, cares for his students, is great at explaining content, very understanding, and again, is an absolute beast.
Dr. Usher's lectures are very engaging and he teaches to what is applicable in a real world situation. Dr. Usher also makes it a point to get to know his students and offers help not only for his classes but, help with co-op/work projects. He should be highly considered for Faculty Favorite. -

Michael Wade
Accounting
College of BusinessDr Wade is not just knowledgeable in his field, but makes a class with pretty dry material, fun. His sense of humor and understanding of how to get the material across is top notch. If I could have him as a Professor for every course, I would never stop taking classes.
I have had Professor Wade for a couple of accounting classes online and he always does a phenomenal job of making an online class connect with the material and with other students. The way he teaches his class will make a difference in how graduates approach the real world in their jobs.
Professor Wade is the best professor at the University of Louisville. He genuinely cares about helping his students achieve greatness. He always informs us of opportunities to help advance our careers and always gives us life motto's to help motivate us. One of his motto's is the whole reason I'm filling out this form right now. "Nothing beats a failure but a try", couldn't hurt to try right? He deserves this award. -
Lisa Wagner
Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesGreat professor
Dr. Wagner keeps the class engaged always and knows how to keep things light and fun. She is approachable and efficient and has worked hard to switch our class to online learning in the midst of COVID-19. She is a wonderful professor and deserves to be recognized.
I've had Dr. Wagner for two semesters now, and she is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. She walks into every class with a smile and a positive attitude, which I can't say about every professor I've had. Dr. Wagner is so kind-hearted and it is so obvious that she cherishes not only her job, but her students and their Spanish journey as well.
Dr. Wagner has a deep knowledge of her content area and seems to pass that wisdom on to her students with ease. She has been a mentor for me over the years and I have never left a class session with her without feeling accomplished and hungry for more. There is not a better Spanish professor at UofL.
For the past two semesters, Dr. Wagner has made a difficult subject like Spanish phonetics easy to understand and enjoyable. She arrives every day with a smile on her face. I know she was meant to teach at university; she relates to her students and is forever giving. As I am graduating, I appreciate the opportunity of having such an amazing instructor for two semesters.
Dr. Wagner is an amazing mentor in the Spanish Master's Program, she is a very kind, hard worker, caring, responsible, and respectful professor. She makes sure students learn the material in a welcoming, and comfortable classroom environment. Dr. Wagner, thank you for all you do for the students, you are the best! -

Sam Walte

College of Education and Human DevelopmentSam Walte is an amazing teacher who really cares about her students. She reaches out all the time to make sure that we are understanding the content and are not getting overwhelmed. She even set up a once a month de-stress zone after class before all the COVID-19 stuff started. She is a star that you need to make sure you keep a hold of.
Dr. Walte is one of the best professors I've ever had. She has made the most impact on my education since being at the University: I was fortunate to have her for two semesters. I believe she will do big things in the world of Special Education.
Dr. Walte is by far the most amazing professor I have gotten the chance to have over my four years at U of L. She truly cares about her students and will do anything necessary to ensure they are achieving as much as possible. She is so personable and truly makes me feel like anything is possible. If any teacher deserves this award, it is Dr. Samantha Walte!
Dr. Walte always finds a way to help students understand the ideas being presented in class. She wants everyone to be successful in the classroom. Dr. Walte constantly goes the extra mile to support supports of the classroom by hosting mental health support sessions and reaching out with assistance constantly. This professor is a god sent. She was born for this.
Dr. Walte is the BEST professor I've had. She genuinely cares about us. I've never had a professor make classes SO much fun, while also learning so much at the same time. Whether that be bringing food to class to have a celebration, using fun resources to learn, or listening to me cry after class about whatever I'm going through, Dr. Walte makes class worth coming to.
After our original instructor had to take a medical leave she took over the course. She went above and beyond to help make sure we weren't overwhelmed by the difficult class and in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic was constantly checking in and giving us ideas of how to cope during this difficult time. You can really tell she cares.
Goes above and beyond for her students. Dr. Walte makes sure we have everything we need to be successful! She was a great professor in fall 2019, and she continues to be a great professor. She has been so helpful with online learning due to covid-19 and she stays in contact with every student. I love the activities we do in class!
Dr. Walte is a superb teacher, always being enthusiastic and making learning easy and fun. She adapts her styles to the styles needed for her students, and makes sure we have a great understanding of the materials. She is a friend and mentor too, making sure we are okay in other classes and life in general. She is a true example of what a GREAT teacher should be. -

He assigned interesting reading to illustrate whatever craft topics we were studying. Many of the essays, short stories and poems were from Kentucky authors. _x000D_ The exchanges posted with our classmates gave the online class an in-person feel. Thanks, professor!

Chelsea Wicks

College of Education and Human DevelopmentChelsea and Dr. Bergman are both on my list for this nomination. They have been so very helpful in assisting me as an adult student returning to the University of Louisville to finish my degree and to go on to pursue my Masters at UL, beginning in the spring. I am grateful for them both. They are responsive, detailed and knowledgeable. I cannot thank them enough for everything that they have done to assist me in being successful in their program: for that I nominate them both.
I am so very thankful to her. She in one semester made more of an impact on me than any professor here. For an advisor to do that, is incredible and she should be recognized for having an amazing balance between kindness and coaching.
This past year has been such a wonderful experience. From the beginning of my journey at UofL, to finishing up my last semester. Thank you for always modeling exceptional leadership. I am so grateful for all the constant support, encouragement and guidance, which helped me become confident in pursuing my academic and professional goals.
Chelsea Wicks is my academic adviser. She has been phenomenal as I have been trying to get everything done. Having to travel, have Army stuff get in the way of college, she was always able to walk me through and help keep track of what I had to do, considering my special circumstances. Awesome Job! -

Furthermore, he is always engaged, on point, and entertaining.
Dr. Wieland is a great instructor!! He keeps class entertaining but informative. He takes time when you are unsure of what to do to put you at ease. He makes you feel that you will be successful, even when you are unsure. He's flexible, but committed to the process of learning. I enjoyed both of the classes I had with him.
Dr. Wieland navigated the CoVID-19 epidemic with poise and grace. He was in constant contact with his students and allowed extra time if needed on assignments. The level of understanding and care he gives his students is unmatched. Dr. Wieland is truly one of the best there is. As we say in the Air Force, he is "tip of the spear!" -

Imelda Wright
School of NursingDr. Wright has been beyond wonderful to me and our cohorts even before all of this craziness. She has constantly not only encouraged us to be better students but better human beings as well. And with everything going on now, she's become so much more than just a teacher for us. She's become a mentor, a friend, a therapist when needed but above all, she's a wonderful human.
I have honestly never had a professor be so caring and generous. She always made my Pharmacology class feel welcomed and it was an online class. She held extra sessions every Monday for people to ask questions and went in depth on emails. She always emphasized how it important it was to her for us to be successful!!
I have had her for my summer Pharmacology and Management of Care this fall semester and she has been such a role model to me. She takes time and cares extremely for every one of her students. She tells us facts but also lifetime experiences that give us students stories to remember and to learn from. She also motivates her students to remember that if you put your heart into something you can achieve anything you desire to achieve. Overall she is an amazing instructor and has such a big heart for all of her students.
Dr. Wright has been a inspirational example of what a nurse exemplifies. Her dedication to both the career and the students is something that all her students can see and appreciate. She is always looking for our input and is always offering her help. I know it's not only me that can see her effort and love her for her dedication. She is a great professor, fun lecturer, and a genuinely good person.
Dr. Wright is an OUTSTANDING professor and educator. She is challenging both in lecture and clinical and truly goes above and beyond. Plus, she just earned her doctoral degree which is an exceptional achievement.
She was so kind and genuinely cared about our safety when we transitioned to online classes. All of her emails and announcements were positive, encouraging, and gave me the sense that everything would be okay. She is very educated and helpful with everything she does. I have enjoyed having her as a professor the past two years. -
Ming Wu
Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesWu Lao Shi is not your average professor. Every single day when I come into class I am greeted by a big smile that makes my day. As a teacher, Professor Wu is a masterclass in how to engage with students in the 21st century. She uses interaction of every type and practice that caters to the full range of learning types to ensure absorption. She has the best sense of humor, allowing her to connect to each student deeply- despite our diverse range of backgrounds and character. She is also unbelievably kind. She works to understand you as a full person, and she is willing to work more to guarantee each students' academic success. In just a semester I have come to view Professor Wu as a phenomenal teacher, a top notch mentor, and even a friend. I have never met someone so passionate for teaching, yet so committed to individual growth. Beyond her personal character, she is working hard to cross cultural barriers. She is from the southern coast of China, yet I, as a resident of the backwoods of western Kentucky, feel as though I have know her my whole life. She wants people to understand the value of each other's differences, and confront the reality that cultural exchange is benefiting our society. This led her to begin teaching her Chinese Pop Culture course. A course that has opened my eyes to the world in so many ways. Without a doubt Professor Ming Wu is not only an outstanding professor, but more importantly: a great human being. I have no hesitation is designating her as one of UofL's best, with the knowledge that any student that enters her course will leave with something new as both a student and a person. -
Roman Yampolskiy
Computer Engineering and Computer Science
Speed School of EngineeringInspired me to follow a career in computer science and AI. Treats his students with respect. Is very understanding
sweet guy, funny too. One of the few prof's I've had were you can tell he's passionate about educating just as much as he is about his field work too.
Yampolskiy is a great and knowledgeable professor that genuinely cares about the success of his students. The course material and projects are interesting as he delves into the concepts of artificial intelligence and algorithms.
Dr. Yampolskiy provides students the opportunity to be involved in leading research in artificial intelligence and always leads a great lecture
Yampolskiy is an engaging teacher. He's very approachable and easy-going. He's very knowledgeable about what he teaches, and shares his excitement for teaching and learning with us.
Excellent teacher who teaches a challenging course and makes it approachable and cumulative. Probably the best and hardest class I've taken at Speed.
Dr. Yampolskiy makes his students apply what they know to something they do not. This teaches us how to think when a problem comes up that we do not currently have a solution for.
Dr. Yampolskiy is a dedicated professor who maintains a very well designed lesson plan. He works with students to ensure they get the most out of the class. He sets reasonable expectations which still challenge the minds of his students and is prompt with feedback and assistance.
Dr. Yampolskiy was one of my favorite professors at UofL. I had a lot of project based class work this semester and he was very understanding and let me turn in assignments late a few times which was much appreciated! He knew his stuff and made sure to educate his students well. I have a lot of respect for Dr. Yampolskiy and wish more faculty were hired like him!
I had him for CECS 130, his class changed my attitude toward computers. I now find it really fun diving into source code of the programs on my computer, as well as other languages.
Truly a pleasant to professor to work with. Very knowledgeable on the course he teaches, and down to earth professor. Responds quickly to emails, and answers questions to the best of his ability. -
