Robert Bohn
General Dentistry and Oral Medicine
School of DentistryHe is by far the best professor in the dental school. Goes out of his way to help all students from preclinical to clinical and everything in-between. He is truly an example for every faculty at ULSD.

The best professor ever!
Always willing to help
Dr. Bohn is a great professor who is always willing to help out his students. He is always willing to answer questions if available and makes things easy to understand. Is very practical with his knowledge of dentistry and helps you see the big picture.
Since our first year at ULSD, Dr. Bohn has always put both patient and student wellness first. He dedicates so much of his time to helping students with complicated cases, frustrating lab work, or even smaller tasks like paperwork just to ease some of the stressors of dental school for us--while still providing excellent instruction! He never passes by an opportunity to teach us something or show us a new approach or perspective. He always has a smile on his face and knows everyone by name, proving he cares about us as students. It's clear he loves what he does, and he deserves so much more credit than what's been given!
Dr. Bohn has gone out of his way to help teach me the basics and had a way of making things simple so I could truly understand. He stays late, works through lunch and often has several students lined up outside his door for help. This man has taught me more than any other professor in the school. From preclinical work in my first two years to lab prescriptions for my senior CD, Dr. Bohn has been there every step of the way.
He goes above and beyond to help students out--staying late and working side-by-side with students to make sure they understand the procedure or process.
Dr. Bohn always goes above and beyond to help students. He takes the time to explain things you may not understand and will sit down one-on-one with you to show you how to do things more correctly and efficiently. He always has a smile on his face and students are his priority. I couldn't think of a more deserving professor of this award.
The most helpful and kind
Best professor. Enjoys teaching and goes out of his way to teach and help his students be successful.
He is student orientated first, he never complains, always willing to stay late hours to help students with our lab work. He deserves all the awards available because he puts the work in.
He is an amazing faculty!!
He is a great instructor!!!
Dr. Bohn goes out of his way to help students and never makes them feel insignificant if they have questions or concerns.
An essential faculty member at ULSD, Dr. Bohn always goes above and beyond for students and deserves this recognition.
Always there to help students and very helpful. He's been a professor my entire class counts on and has helped many students graduate on time.
Dr. Bohn is one of the kindest, most willing to help and best professors we have at ULSD. He deserves to be recognized for all of his dedication and hard work!
Dr. Bohn goes above and beyond to help us survive dental school! He is always trying to show us practical ways to do things and relate what we are learning to real-life experiences. Dr. Bohn is so deserving of this award!
He is the most helpful member of faculty at ULSD, and I wouldn't be graduating without him!
Dr. Bohn is one of the top faculty at the dental school. He is always willing to go above and beyond to help dental students and deserves recognition for this!
Dr. Bohn has been a huge support to the Class of 2017 to prepare us for graduation.
Dr. Bohn continually goes out of his way to help students provide the best care possible to their patients. He is always positive and never demeaning to students. I can truly say he is one of the reasons that I will be able to graduate from this school in a timely manner. He truly deserves this award.
Dr. Bohn goes above and beyond to help students in any way he can. He knows how to cheer everyone up but also be serious when he needs to.
He is great with students and works hard to make sure we graduate on time.
Dr. Bohn is an encouraging and supportive faculty member. He goes out of his way to speak with students when we have questions about our lab cases. He is an excellent instructor. He is a positive energy at the dental school who is highly valued and respected by students!
Good teacher
This professor has always put students first and foremost which is what makes him outstanding.
Great Doctor! He is constantly an advocate for students! He is always helpful and a pleasure to work with.
Dr. Bohn has been an amazing teacher during my time in dental school. He is always available to help and goes above and beyond the call_x000D_ of duty. He has made dental school a bearable experience and has been the light in many dark days. There is nobody who deserves this honor more.
Dr. Bohn is not only academically committed to his students, but he treats us as if we were family to him. While many of us are away from family while in dental school, it is comforting to know we have someone here who truly cares for us!
Best Faculty! He takes students' issues seriously and genuinely tries to educate/help us and get us out of here!
Dr. Bohn has shown great dedication in making sure we as students are getting the guidance and help we need when it comes to dental education.
Dr. Bohn has been so helpful throughout my time here at the dental school. As a first and second year, he was patient with me in pre-clinic, giving constructive criticism. Third year, I could bring my patient lab work to him with questions, and he would help and give advice on how to make the lab work better. As a senior, he helped my class get things to the lab in a timely manner. He is student and patient-friendly, and I am so thankful for that.
On a daily basis, Dr. Bohn hands down helps to instruct and educate more dental students than any other faculty member here, whether it be in his participation in the comprehensive care clinic, competency clinics, quality assurance for lab cases or the pre-clinical courses he is involved in.
Dr. Bohn is one of the few professors students seek out for help. He offers clinically relevant advice without any bias. His attitude is extremely kind towards students and his main goal is teaching students what they need to know to be competent dentists.
Throughout my four years of dental school, Dr. Bohn has consistently gone above and beyond to help students progress through the program and really understand dentistry. He is more than deserving of this achievement.
Dr. Bohn is always willing to help and gives great advice! He focuses on the student's needs.
Dr. Bohn works tirelessly to ensure that both patients receive prompt and quality care and students graduate. As head of the quality assurance program, he is always available to look at cases and assist when needed/requested. An example of excellence.
Really great at teaching and reinforcing things we've learned in class.
Dr. Bohn is always willing to help us dental students however he can. One day, he was busy with his own work, and I ran into him in the hallway with a question. He dropped what he was doing to come into the lab and help me with a difficult task. This is only one instance of his generosity of spirit that is consistently evident in his dealings with others. His diligence deserves recognition.
He is the best educator, and we could not graduate without him.
Well-deserved
Dr. Bohn is one of the best professors at ULSD. He is always student focused and always takes the time to really get to know students on a personal level. I don't see Dr. Bohn as frequently as I did during my first two years at ULSD, but he has always made the effort to remember my name, and this fall, even when I saw him only about once per month, he always asked me about my recent wedding, marriage, and how I was doing. He went above and beyond to remember the details about my life. He truly cares about the dental students.
Dr. Bohn is very caring and passionate in helping his students succeed. He relates to each student's situation and tries his best to help them resolve their problems
Always willing to help and overall awesome instructor. Very approachable and willing to work with students. -
Marcelo Durski
General Dentistry and Oral Medicine
School of DentistryDr. Durski is extremely helpful and approachable. He is a great teacher and gives a lot of direction to students. He always allows time for demonstrations in lab when needed and shows that he wants you to fully comprehend what you're learning and why.
Dr. Durski is an incredible teacher and mentor. The ULSD is very lucky to have him.
Dr. Durski goes out of his way constantly to make us better dentists. I appreciate the way that he teaches, giving us guidelines but also telling us to always ask why and make a decision for ourselves. He critiques us, but never without first telling us the things that we are doing well, and that makes all the difference!
Dr. Durski has been a huge help in the various classes he helps the D1 class with. With waxing, and now with the Operative Course, he has become a favorite for help and instruction. He is able to provide critical feedback in a very positive manner, but still hold you to a very high standard. The work that he expects is of a very high quality, and he is able to provide the directions to achieve his expectations. He is more than willing to spend the time that you need individually and help you with the things beyond the simple task at hand. He is one of the last faculty members around after lab and takes the time to stick around with someone who might need a little more individual time. He is a great instructor beyond the level to which has been set by the remaining faculty. He truly deserves this award for all of the work and help that he does in the operative course. His skills working with students are phenomenal.
Dr. Durski is an incredibly kind and smart man (and very handsome). We all love him! He gives us his all every day and will do anything to teach us how to perform to the best of our abilities in lab. Dr. Durski is a phenomenal teacher, and I improved tremendously from working under his direction.
Dr. Durski is always so helpful in Dental Anatomy lab and now in Operative. He gives advice in a way that is easy to apply, and everyone appreciates the way he interacts with the students.
The most encouraging and positive teacher I have met who truly loves teaching, his students and his work.
Dr. Durski is an excellent professor. He takes his time to explain everything thoroughly and always makes sure that students understand the material well. He is very patient, knowledgeable and goes out of his way to help students.
Super helpful
Dr. Durski's willing to answer questions in and out of the classroom. He has a very vast knowledge of the field and pushes you to do your best.
Dr. Durski is patient and encouraging while challenging students to learn and to take on intimidating tasks in lab. Fantastic, well-rounded faculty member who deserves the acknowledgement! -
Rishtya Kakar
Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences
School of Public Health and Information SciencesShe is a fabulous teacher.
Rishtya's assignments have been the most applicable to public health than any others that I've had. She emails us personally with feedback on assignments to make sure we are able to improve on the next one. She goes out of her way to make sure everyone understands everything and is getting the most out of the class. She's wonderful!
Professor Kakar goes above and beyond to make sure the students not only understand the material, but can apply their knowledge as well. She is easy to talk to and addresses all questions, comments, and concerns. We discussed my academic performance in her class during office hours once, and she made me feel very comfortable in addressing all of my concerns.
She is very good at teaching the essentials of what we need in order to get a complete understanding of introductory Public Health and its applications. She's very patient and understanding of a full-time student's schedule and allows flexibility on deadlines for assignments.
Rishtya has been a wonderful professor and mentor.
This fall, I took Global Health with Rishtya. I was very apprehensive at the start of the course, as I was not sure what to expect, and the syllabus and all of the assignments seemed intimidating. However, as the semester went on, I gauged a sincere sense of passion from Rishtya, in that she is truly an advocate for all facets of public health, especially when it comes to complex global health burdens. Every assignment has made me feel more knowledgeable about the world we live in, and it has prepared me to enter the field of public health with a broader range of knowledge than before I entered the course.
A hard worker, kind, friendly.
She is very passionate, but still considerate of others' views. The assignments all relate to and enhance the course. She inspired me to become a public health major.
Rishtya is such a knowledgeable professor who creates a creative and engaging learning environment for her students. She never fails to answer any of the questions her students ask to the best of her ability and never makes a question feel like "a stupid one." I am always comfortable to speak out in her class, and I love how she presented the material, very clear and concise! I would definitely recommend her to other students.
I like this teacher, and I enjoyed the class because she is on time and to the point on the course. She makes me to be on time and do my assignments ahead. -
Steven Myers (In Memoriam)
Pharmacology and Toxicology
School of MedicineHe was a wonderful man and treated his students in just the kindest way.
Dr. Myers had the greatest impact in the shortest amount of time of any professor I've ever had. He worked with his students more than anyone else and made us all feel like he would truly go above and beyond to make sure everyone in the class succeeded.
Dr. Myers was truly an amazing man. He was one of few professors/faculty at ULSD who actually cared about the students and seeing them succeed. He was one who would do anything to help his students with whatever it was they needed, even if we asked too much at times. It wasn't hard to see that he loved what he did and enjoyed sharing that knowledge with his students. Dr. Myers will be missed by all who knew him. It is a sad day not only for the loss of such an amazing professor at ULSD, but also to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Dr. Myers.
Great professor. Gone too soon.
Dr. Myers was a caring teacher, and I'm sure a very genuine man. He made learning pharmacology, a generally dry subject, as enjoyable as it could be. UofL would benefit from having more faculty with the demeanor of Dr. Myers. He will be missed.
He cared so much for all of us and wanted all of us to succeed. He will be greatly missed.
Great professor. Taught me the ins and outs of pharmacology while maintaining a sense of respect and love towards us students. Thank you, Dr. Myers, for your great work.
Great guy, very generous with his students. RIP Dr. Myers.
Dr. Myers sadly passed away on Sunday December 4, 2016. He was one of the most caring compassionate professors I have had. Very concerned about us as students and very willing to help however he could. He will be missed, and I think it would be extremely appropriate to honor him as "Faculty Favorite."
He was always nice and friendly, willing to accommodate, and showed that he cared about all of us as students and people.
I had a few interactions with Dr. Myers. He was a great person who cared about his students and always made an effort to make it easier on us.
Dr. Myers was one of the most caring and understanding professors. He truly cared for his students' well-being and went out of his way to guarantee we had a full grasp on all material.
Dr. Myers was a great professor who always put his students first. There is no one deserving of this award more than Dr. Myers.
Dr. Myers was a faculty with ULSD and lectured for our class of 2018 in Pharmacology. He was the quintessential teacher who wanted us to do well. That was his goal. I would like to think he achieved that. He will be missed that's for sure.
He was a great professor. He genuinely cared for our learning, success and lives. He will be missed.
Dr. Myers was always willing to go out of his way to help students.
Dr. Myers truly cared about students and was very accommodating to our requests.
Dr. Myers was a wonderful teacher. He always went above and beyond to help his students. Not only did he give review sessions on his own time before exams, but he also was available 24/7 to his students through email, text, and even phone calls. Even though he was struggling with illnesses and pains, he was always there for us. I remember texting him on a Saturday asking for clarification on a topic, and he had responded in two full paragraphs a complete explanation within 10 minutes! I'm sad to hear the news of his passing. He was a wonderful person and a great teacher. I know he won't be able to attend the banquet, but he truly deserves this recognition.
Dr. Myers was one of the sweetest and most caring professors that I have ever had the pleasure of working with during my time at ULSD. I am utilizing this nomination as a way to remember him for what a great man and professor he truly was.
Dr. Myers went above and beyond to help his students and really loved working with us. I appreciate all the hard work he put into our pharmacology course.
Dr. Myers cared about us students and it really showed. He was available at any time to help in any way. He gave out his cell number and encouraged us to text or call. He always went out of his way to ensure we had all the resources we needed to succeed, and he tried to present them in as many different forms as possible. Aside from his in-class lectures, he made sure we had recordings to listen to. He gave us every chart or PowerPoint that could be of benefit. He really wanted us to succeed. Not to weed us out. Not to force only the best of the best to make it through but to make sure we all learned the skills necessary to becoming good dentists adept in the knowledge of his field of pharmacology.
Dr. Myers was truly a great professor, as well as a great person. He wanted nothing more than to see his students succeed and gave us every opportunity to do so no matter what length he needed to go to. He was always available to us. He made an impact on everyone he taught and will truly be missed.
He went above and beyond to ensure comprehension and academic success.
Dr. Myers had his teaching priorities in the proper order. He organized our pharmacology class well and simplified things whenever possible. He seemed to genuinely care about our learning of the course material without exerting any unfair power over us. He never failed to make himself available for questions and offered review opportunities before every exam. He was a kind spirit who exemplified professionalism and expertise. Aside from his superb teaching skills, he had a great voice that even an overworked dental student wouldn't mind listening to. His passing was met with such grief, not only for the loss of a good man in this world that needs him, but selfishly, with disappointment that I wouldn't get to learn from him again. His presence at the University will have a lasting impact on me as a student. That might sound like a nice thing to say, but the level of admiration and respect Dr. Myers deserves is a new inspiration for my career-in-the-making. -
Scott Patton
Special Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentMr. Patton is a wonderful instructor who goes out of his way to help and encourage all of his students.
Mr. Patton is amazing. He's so knowledgeable, and you can really tell his immense love of what he does.
Mr. Patton truly puts his students first. He takes the time to hear what concerns we have, stories that have excited us, what is going on in our placements, and in life. I think he would be a great supervisor for LBD because he knows what effective Gen Ed. and resource classrooms consist of. He is so compassionate about everything education!
He truly cares about us not only as students but as people.
Mr. Patton is nothing short of an amazing professor. He is flexible with his teaching style, dependable, and understanding. He really relates to the struggles of students and makes us feel like he truly understands the difficulties of being students while juggling full-time jobs and families (some of us). I would take him for every required course if I could. We are leaving his class feeling understood, valued and having gained a wealth of knowledge.
Mr. Patton works diligently to ensure that he is providing the best educational experiences to his students as possible. Not only does he pass on his knowledge on content areas to provide information to students, but he also calls in experts in different fields to ensure that we are receiving the best information available on a given topic. He works with students to make assignments useful and meaningful and ensures that they understand the purpose behind completing a given assignment. After less than a complete semester working with him toward the end of my professional journey, he has instilled a newfound inspiration to change the future of education in myself. Mr. Patton is a truly passionate professor who cares a great deal about the students that he is teaching to as well as the content that he is teaching about.
Mr. Patton was my EDTP 201 teacher in the Spring semester of 2015. Being in his class and having him as a teacher is one of the reasons that I continued on my journey to become a teacher!

I've never had an instructor go out of their way to make sure each student who wanted to learn was learning the material needed to be successful in their future career! Mr. Patton makes sure to do that each and every day, whether it be during class or responding to emails! Best instructor I've ever had!!!!
Professor Patton is one of my favorite professors. He cares so much about his students and what he's teaching.
He is a great professor. He would be an awesome supervisor out in the schools. -

Jamie Abrams
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Abrams is an amazing, intelligent and thought-provoking professor. She goes above and beyond for every student. She recognizes the strengths each student has and works with them to expand and use that strength to help others. She teaches tough material in a clear and concise way. I have had her for two classes, and my knowledge of that material is exceptional. While she also teaches material very well, she also provokes deep discussions about our thoughts about the law and always works through a policy lens, knowing that one day, we will each be able to affect change in our community. I nominate her for this award, she is a very deserving candidate.

College of Arts and SciencesMy Arabic professor is the most phenomenal teacher I have ever experienced. He is BEYOND passionate. He makes learning TRULY fun. I have never ever been in a class where I am constantly at full, 100% attention until I took his class. He is so fun, caring, and repetitive. I have retained all of the information we have learned so far without excessive studying. If anything, I barely study, and I have retained more knowledge than ever before. He's such an inspiration and is always lively and happy. I may not know every professor, but I can guarantee I don't need to know or experience any other to know Khaldoun is the best. -

Ronald Atlas
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesI am nominating Dr. Atlas for my favorite educator due to his incredible brilliance. Dr. Atlas amazed me each and every class with an impressive remark about one of his million's of accomplishments, all to which he was incredibly humble. I was impressed with his sheer knowledge on the subject of microbiology and what he has done in a field that he is passionate about. I appreciate having the opportunity to learn from Dr. Atlas, and have the utmost respect for him, as I can only dream of having as much knowledge as Dr. Atlas has shown. (And this has been only a class! To think of what he knows beyond a microbiology lecture! Incredible!) It was so fun to learn from Dr. Atlas this semester. He was a warm and caring professor, had a great personality, and was a great teacher, as well; which is sometimes difficult to come by. I hope Dr. Atlas knows that he is loved, respected, and appreciated. -

Cathy truly cares about your success!! -
Antonio Badia
Computer Engineering and Computer Science
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringThis is only my first semester taking classes (online) at UofL. Dr. Badia is my nomination because he provided a challenging yet instructional learning environment. While the course I took with him was by no means easy, I continued to dive into the content with a desire to triumph over any problem I was presented with. This was no doubt due in part to his graceful instruction and thoughtful insight into each topic. His class has prepared me to take on further challenges both in school and in the workplace. My only hope is that I continue to be offered such instruction throughout the rest of my education at UofL. -

Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student SuccessMr. Barnes was the instructor for my GEN 104 class. Even though he has multiple classes and numerous students in my class, he still took the time to help you and knew you personally. Would always greet you by name when you walked in and always checked in on you. He would track your progress and give you tips and weekly updates. He was also very easy to contact outside of class. -
Michael Barone
Marketing
College of BusinessThe obvious attention and care he has for the class could be physically felt. Besides him anticipating our questions and comments (and having slides to back them up) he had examples, often, from that day's news cycle. He asked us to be prepared for class and led by example. Incredibly entertaining as well. -
Debra Bauder
Special Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentProfessor Debra Bauder always makes sure her students understand what to do and how to do the assignments. She gets back to everyone immediately and makes them feel happy to be in her class.
Always so friendly, helpful and genuinely loves what she does. I love this woman!
Excellent advisor and even greater teacher! Had her almost every semester for my graduate courses. You can tell that she has a love and passion for teaching and for those with special needs.
Debra Bauder is a great instructor! -
Pauletta "Gay" Baughman
General Dentistry and Oral Medicine
School of DentistryDr. B has taken the time to get to know us personally and is a professor who genuinely cares about her students.
Dr. Baughman truly cares about her students learning the material she presents. She also strives to teach us life lessons as well. She is overall a great teacher. -
Thomas Berfield
Mechanical Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringTom is excellent as a teacher. Normally it is difficult to get a large class to engage in a lecture but Tom manages to do so. Through loads of diagrams and object lessons such as "the exploration of how a pressure vessel could rupture through a comparison with hot dogs, then the class gets to eat the hot dogs" lets him connect with his students. He always is kind and friendly with his students. I can think of no better option for the faculty favorite choice for the fall semester of 2016.
Dr. Berfield is the best professor I've had, and he makes class enjoyable and simple. If you need help, he is there to help and will make sure you understand the content.
I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Berfield's 'Experimental Stress Analysis' class this semester and thoroughly enjoyed the class setting and material. Teacher is very approachable and is willing to help.
He is a very good professor who is willing to do anything to make sure you understand what is going on. He is willing to help with projects as well outside of class.
T Berf was great, effectively taught the material, was available outside of class to answer questions and clarify material, provided lots of help for the ME 324 Lab, overall a great professor and great guy. The hot dogs were a great bonus too.
Really learned a lot from him. -
Matt Bergman
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Bergman is a huge reason, if not THE reason, I'm about to earn my degree. His encouragement and support have gone far beyond the classroom. I owe him an enormous debt of gratitude for continuing to push me over the last eight years to keep chipping away at my goal of graduation. I will realize that goal in two short months and without him it wouldn't be happening. Period! He embodies everything I imagine an educator should be.
Dr. Bergman is an enthusiastic instructor who effectively leads and encourages adult learners in the Master's level HROD classes. He is extremely responsive to questions and wants the students to apply the information learned in the class to their current jobs/life.
He maintains high standards but is positive with feedback and gives students all the tools they need for success.
Dr. Bergman has been an outstanding educator throughout the semester. He continuously reaches out to his current and former students to keep us abreast of upcoming events, both at the University of Louisville and within our degree/career fields. His immense dedication to his craft of education has alleviated the anxiety that many graduating seniors feel. Dr. Bergman is the influencing factor in keeping me, as an adult learner, engaged in my studies. I have no doubt that Dr. Bergman is the educator that has made the most impact on keeping adult learners engaged to meet their goals while attending the University of Louisville._x000D_ Thank you. -
Lisa Blum
Accountancy
College of BusinessShe teaches with dignity and twists of humor. Her class has been the highlight of my days, and every conversation/lecture is a new experience for herself and her students. She works tirelessly to successfully balance demands of Beta Alpha Psi with the education obligation of her students. She is a gift to our school and our organization. We all appreciate her continued service.
She works hard in the classroom and outside with sponsoring Beta Alpha Psi. She is kind and wants to help students the best way possible. Thankful for her dedication to further her own knowledge and pursue learning the latest information in her field.
An amazing instructor of Tax Accounting. She balances effective lectures and class problems to enhance students' understanding of complicated tax topics. One of the best classes I have taken!
Lisa Blum did an awesome job this semester with online tax. It did not feel like a regular online class. She posted tons of helpful videos and seemed like she lived on her computer with how fast her email responses were. I will definitely be taking corporate tax with Professor Blum. -
Jennifer Bobo
Kent School of Social WorkProfessor Bobo goes above and beyond her job description. She creates a friendship as well as a professional relationship to assist her students in furthering their education. She is understanding, patient and kindhearted.
Jennifer was an excellent online professor to the graduate students at the Kent School of Social Work. She put in the time and effort to make us feel appreciated and respected as practitioners from afar. It is rare to find an online class where one truly feels part of the community and feels that their voice is heard.
Professor Bobo is one of the best professors I've ever had. She has made herself available to students almost 24/7, adjusted course content to fit our needs, and spoke with me on the phone to assist me with coursework. She cares immensely and will touch many more students in a positive way if she continues to teach.
Professor Bobo made learning challenging but still interesting and relevant. Her presentation of information was well thought out and incorporated skills needed in the field. She was understanding, approachable, and accessible to students. She checked in often regarding concerns, assignments, and student needs. It was not unusual for her to offer additional office hours when students struggled with an assignment or contact students directly to offer support or to help increase their understanding. She is a huge advocate of self-care and stressed its importance frequently. She is one-of-a-kind and deserving of recognition. Bobo is a dynamic teacher who is passionate about social work. She makes the lessons meaningful and applicable to practicum and career experience. Again, she is all about self-care and being advocates for change.
Professor Bobo has made a significant impact on my learning at the University of Louisville, Kent School of Social Work by reaching out to me and letting me know when I did a good job on an assignment or project. We do not get praised as much as we should in life and being praised has helped me persist in my studies this final year of grad school. It has been a tough and exhausting semester, but Professor Bobo has made it a memorable and engaging semester. Her positive remarks about my progress has helped me persist in my education when I really needed it. Professor Bobo has excellent communication skills and is very knowledgeable in the field of social work, especially teaching students about evidence-based interventions in trauma and crisis. She excels in delivering a variety of methods to teach students as everyone has different ways of learning. I believe Professor Bobo contributed greatly to my success in learning about social work practice while at Kent School.
Jennifer Bobo created a positive learning environment for all students. She varied the learning assignments to accommodate all learning strengths. She always made herself available for any questions her students had regarding coursework or assignments. She also utilized assignments that helped students to forge relationships with other classmates which is very difficult to accomplish in an online setting. Jennifer Bobo is very invested in her students' success and Kent School of Social Work's success as well. She is an asset to the program and the university. -
Jeffery Borden
Mechanical Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringLiterally the best. Helps out whenever you need him. Fun teacher to be around. Gave more life to the semester.
Dude is awesome.
I'd like to nominate Jeff Borden.
He is the best professor I have had at Speed School.
Professor Borden made what is the hardest class in Speed School fun. I never thought I could learn about strain gauges and laugh at the same time but with Borden I did. He also shared a lot of professional insight given his background at GE. I know that in 20 years from now, I won't remember every equation I learned in every class, but I know I'll remember all the classes I had with Professor Borden.
The most approachable professor (as a senior) I've ever had. Made a bad class fun and bearable. Great real-life work experience that he could refer to during class.
Prof. Borden was given the class I was in less than a week before school started, giving him very little time to prep the course. He took this in stride though. ME 414 was one of the hardest classes the department offers, and Borden did an excellent job taking the material we absolutely needed to know and focusing on that and not having any fluff. Very approachable and loves talking with his students. His lectures are a conversation with the class. -

J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Brown stayed after class anytime I needed extra help. He was always patient and helped me learn how to use SolidWorks even when it was a struggle. He took the time to create a relevant curriculum and taught students skills that will help us throughout our careers. -
Jennifer Brueckner-Collins
Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology
School of MedicineDr. Brueckner always goes above and beyond for her students. The first semester of medical school has been a time of huge transition, and there have been some bumps in the road. Dr. Brueckner was always there to work through things with me and to help build my confidence. She approaches teaching in such a way that her students can't help but to be excited about the material. Despite the difficulty of the transition, I have loved my semester of anatomy, in large part due to Dr. Brueckner. I could not have asked for a more caring or invested professor.
Dr. Brueckner is one of the best professors I've ever had. As someone who has never taken anatomy before, she quelled my worries with her expertise and guidance. She is not only brilliant but also a warm and welcoming professor who truly cares about her students--a rare combination among the elite. She strives to make sure that we succeed and understand the intricacies of what we are studying. Her enthusiasm is infectious and makes anatomy exciting despite the apprehension I had going in. I cannot be more grateful to have had such a wonderful professor. Thank you Dr. B. -
Mary Brydon-Miller
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Brydon-Miller has helped me to shape my research at the perfect time in the program. My topic was solid from the initial interview with the committee for entrance into the program, yet my methodology was more illusive until the program placed our cohort in her Qual II class. She's an excellent thinking partner. She's encouraging. She has opened my thinking to a whole new world of qualitative methodology and data collection tools. Things are starting to feel real and possible. For that, I thank her. -
Rhonda Buchanan
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Buchanan, or "Dr. B." as her students call her, is the most kind-hearted and caring person I've ever met at this University. She welcomes all students with open arms. Her passion for her field is unmatched by any professor or teacher I've known in all my life. She is so knowledgeable and makes her classes so intriguing. In addition, she is a fantastic advisor, very willing to work with her students. She always puts them first. Dr. B. is an amazing professor, an incredible person, and a great friend to all she meets. You will not leave her office without a smile and a hug. Dr. Buchanan is such a wonderful woman who never meets a stranger. From the moment you introduce yourself, she embraces you in compassion and friendship. She is more than just a professor, she is a friend. She is so passionate about her subject and you can tell in how she engages in class. She made this semester the best one I've had yet, and I could not think of a more deserving person for this honor.
Rhonda has an enthusiasm and passion that is contagious. She genuinely cares about the learning of her students, and it is apparent. She finds creative ways to get students involved, inside and outside of the classroom. She offers an array of assignments, allowing the students to learn the content in as many ways as possible. I'm not a LALS major or minor, but it's something I consider just so I can have the pleasure of having her as my professor again.
Dr. Buchanan makes each class exciting and interesting. She interacts with all students and makes sure that we understand the material. Dr. Buchanan does everything with a positive attitude and is one of the kindest professors that I've ever had.
I have enjoyed taking Ms. Buchanan's class due to the fact that I've worked very hard in her class, and she doesn't give up on her students. Ms. Buchanan is an amazing teacher and relates everything in the class to our lives. She's a hard-working teacher and provides great feedback. She also goes above and beyond for her students, helping them.
Dr. B is wonderful. She is always enthusiastic, and you can tell she loves what she teaches. She even brings her own props every day related to what we'll be talking about in class. Her enthusiasm makes the class way more exciting.
She goes above and beyond what's required to help her students both inside and outside of class. She's made a huge difference in my education, not only as a teacher, but also helping me through important decisions like studying abroad and picking up a minor! Great professor, great person.
Dr. Buchanan truly embodies what it means to be a professor who truly cares for her students. She not only teaches with such enthusiasm and passion which truly allows her students to love learning the Spanish language, but she goes above and beyond her duty as a professor. She cares for her students as if we were her own children and that is something that is extremely rare to find in the college academic setting. Dr. Buchanan is truly irreplaceable, and the University of Louisville is beyond fortunate enough to call her one of their own. -

College of Arts and SciencesLearning a second language can be hard but every week, I found myself looking forward to class with Professor Calvert. She's an excellent teacher and an absolute pleasure to learn from. She is kind and understanding but still pushes her students to do their best. I never felt like just another student in her class. She pays attention to every student and meets them at their level. I've never had such a personal professor. Her infectious love of Spanish is part of the reason I'm now pursuing a double major in Spanish. I can't think of professor who is more deserving of recognition. -
Timothy Capps
Equine Industry Program
College of BusinessTim Capps' love of teaching led to refuge in the classroom where he would engage students in critical thinking and foster solutions outside the box on equine industry issues. Most importantly, Capps loved nothing more than helping his students flourish as they discovered their true passions, whether they were in the equine industry or not. As a dedicated director, professor, mentor and friend, Capps encouraged his students to believe in themselves, follow their passions and pursue them endlessly. -

Jyme Charette
Oral Health and Rehabilitation
School of DentistryDr. Charette is patient and a phenomenal teacher! She utilizes her resources to help us learn and is extremely good at explaining a difficult concept to grasp. She gives a ton of life demos which is extremely helpful.
Dr. Charette was like a breath of fresh air when she entered our classroom. She did a wonderful job making my classmates and I feel more comfortable and prepared for clinic this upcoming fall. She was also very fair with her grading and very involved in our education. She made sure our schedule with other classes didn't conflict with her project dates, which gave us more time to work on our projects. She was also considerate enough to continually state what the purpose of each step in our projects were. Dr. Charette is one of my favorite faculty members here at ULSD. -
Kerry Charron
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentMerica.
Dr. Charron has been an amazing academic advisor throughout my time in the Master of Higher Education Administration program. She has spent the time to genuinely understand my goals and my workload to help me develop an academic plan that would work for me.
Dr. Charron is an exemplar for all college professors. She cares deeply about the learning outcomes of her students, and her interpersonal tact is amongst the finest I have observed in nearly 19 years commissioned service to the US Army. Dr. Charron's efficacy as a professor is enhanced by her remarkably high emotional intelligence. Her genuine enthusiasm for her subject matter is infectious--she made me want to learn more. She is the finest CFDC professor I have had to date, and my only regret is that I will not have an opportunity to take another class from her prior to graduating. -
Raymond Chastain
Physics and Astronomy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Chastain is one of the best professors I've ever had (and I've had a lot). He does a great job with every aspect of educating--he knows the material, he teaches it well, he fosters collaboration, and he makes students feel comfortable asking questions/participating in class. I would recommend his class to anyone.
Dr. Chastain is one of the best professors I've ever had, and I say this after having attended multiple universities. His classroom is a fun, engaging and inclusive atmosphere where I believe everyone feels comfortable asking questions and working together to learn. It is easy to tell that Dr. Chastain loves teaching and cares about the well-being of his students. I am very thankful to have had Dr. Chastain for two semesters.
I have never really enjoyed physics, but after taking Dr. Chastain's class, I both understand and enjoy physics. I think it says a lot that Dr. Chastain as a professor in that he was able to take a subject that is both challenging to teach and understand and present it in a way that is easily understood and enjoyed by his students. This is the first physics class I have taken that I have actually understood what I was doing. I am genuinely sad this class is over. It was easily seen throughout this course how much he cared about students, and one thing I have noticed about college professors is that this is not always the case. I am very glad I got the chance to take his course.
Best professor I've ever had.
Awesome professor who made a difficult subject understandable and truly cares about each and every one of his students.
Incredible teacher. Dr. Chastain is one of the best instructors I have ever had, at any school. He is engaging, excited to teach, and does so in a way that is very conducive to learning material. He is constantly readjusting material or lessons based on how much or little the class is understanding ideas. He is always open and welcoming to help students fully grasp the material. I was initially intimidated by taking physics but it has quickly become one of my favorite classes. I made my schedule for next semester revolve around getting into Dr. Chastain's section of physics 222. I'm not sure you could find a teacher who cares more about the education of students more than Dr. Chastain. Dr. Chastain is fantastic. The care he displays for his students is astounding. My knowledge and understanding of the English language limit my ability to properly explain the extent of my for praise for him. I feel privileged to have had him as an instructor in two classes now. He makes intimidating concepts understandable. He inspires confidence in my abilities as a student. It is rare to have an instructor who has his unique mix of care, knowledge, patience, and helpfulness. Dr. Chastain exemplifies the ideal qualities of an educator, role model, and mentor. I feel that in knowing him, I have not only grown as a student but as a person. My time at the University of Louisville has become an invaluable experience with so much of that derived from my time learning from Dr. Chastain.
Excellent professor! Really makes sure that everyone in his class understands the concepts being taught. Makes class interesting.
Professor Chastain made the concepts in a difficult course easy to understand.
I took Physics 298 under Prof. Chastain in the spring, and he has been my favorite teacher since coming to college. He has had a profound impact on me and how I view my education. -

His class is challenging, but in ways that really help you to remember and understand what you are doing. He is also very nice and helpful. Chellman is my favorite math teacher to this day. -

Even when a fellow Prof. failed to explain a concept for their HAT assignment, Ms. Claire was more than happy to make sure we knew the content. I just can't express how grateful I am for this Prof.
Ms. Clare is fantastic in every way. She is understanding, caring, and most of all PASSIONATE about special education. It is clear that she is an expert on the things she teaches; and, some of her best instruction comes from seeing her model what excellent teaching looks like. -

Shantel Crosby
Kent School of Social WorkDr. Crosby changed me as an individual this semester. I have always been a procrastinator. This year in Social Work 605 online, Dr. Crosby gave out assignments on Monday that part 1 of were due Tuesday night and part 2 were due Thursday night. I hated it.....for the first few weeks. Then, I realized how good it felt to be completely done with my weekly assignments by Thursday night. I used the weekend to work on big projects or to simply enjoy myself and my family. This has continued into other areas of my life as well. I have become someone who does what they need to do now so I can do what I want to do later. It sounds simple but she really made a change in my life. -

He stayed extra hours to help people in need so they can succeed in the course. He explained things clearly and cared about every student. He's the best teacher in the math department!
Mr. Crosswhite is an excellent instructor. He cares a lot about how much his students understand and not only focuses on trying to get them to pass but also on making sure the students are really getting the knowledge they need to be successful in future math courses. Great instructor. Favorite instructor!
Very helpful and willing to do anything to help all students. Very attentive and supportive.
I've hated numbers for so long, I catch myself getting mad looking at the front of my debit card. Fortunately, James changed my outlook on math from the very beginning of class. No matter how hard I struggled, he and his team stood by my side writing out equation after equation to make sure I grasped every concept and understood the reasoning behind it. I'm very grateful for him and the other instructors/teaching assistants in math 104. -

She is always there to help, and I learned so much during my two classes with her. Always puts in the extra effort and is very knowledgeable. She is truly deserving of recognition.
Dr. Cumberland is engaging. She keeps her classes moving with plenty of participation opportunities and good discussions. Most importantly: she is always willing to take time out of her day to speak with students. If I ever had a question, she would respond quickly. It is great to have a professor in this program with the professional experience and the academic prowess of Dr. Cumberland.
Dr. Cumberland has "gone to bat" for me on multiple occasions by encouraging me to pursue unique opportunities, counseling me on my career change and academic pursuits, giving consideration to my goals, and letting me know that she cares about my success! She honors my qualities, challenges me to grow, and supports me in caring for my needs.
This is the best instructor I have had by far! You can tell that she is passionate about what she teaches. I have learned more in this one course than I have in any other course taken thus far!
I am in ELFH-614 w/Dr. Cumberland this semester. As an Air Force First Sergeant, I have an odd and demanding work schedule that involves a ton of traveling, and I live in Alabama, not Kentucky. I have had some issues figuring out how to complete my degree in a timely manner and still be productive at work. Even though she isn't my assigned advisor, Dr. C listened to me and guided me with creating a plan that fits my life. As an instructor, it is clear from the beginning of the term that she is truly passionate about the subject, the students, ensuring we all understand what we need to succeed, and are able to apply what we are learning. She is very responsive to questions and has been able to help me understand Program Evaluations, which will help me tremendously at work. Bottom line...Dr. Cumberland is an awesome instructor who loves what she does and deserves recognition!!
Great motivator, outstanding teacher.
Dr. Cumberland is HANDS DOWN the best of the best. I am a graduate student in the MS HROD program and have had her for two courses (both online). I can imagine the challenges and difficulties that instructors face when teaching the online curriculum, however, Dr. Cumberland has mastered the art. She is challenging, engaging, understanding and encouraging all at the same time. I have learned so much from her classes and truly admire her teaching style. I would suggest that she hold a training session for the other online professors, so they could learn a thing or two from her :-) Not only is she an amazing teacher but she truly cares about the success of her students, both academically and professionally. I know many of my classmates feel the same way. Please choose Dr. Denise Cumberland as a faculty favorite!! -
Matthieu Dalle

College of Arts and SciencesM. Dalle is very accessible outside of class and really makes sure all of his students understand the presented material. -
Judith Danovitch
Psychological and Brain Sciences
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Danovitch is easily the best educator I have had the pleasure of learning from at UofL. I can't say enough good things about her...
Very proactive on applying psychology for the population. She's very inspiring.
She has been one of the best teachers that I have had while at UofL. I really feel like I gained something new after taking her course!! -
Victoria Das
Chemistry
College of Arts and SciencesI know she is a TA, but this semester, I got the most help and guidance from my organic chemistry lab teaching assistant. It would be dishonest of me to nominate another. -
Elizabeth Dean
English
College of Arts and SciencesMs. Elizabeth Dean has been nothing but a big help in my writing skills! She incorporates critical thinking and researching skills very well in every assignment we do. This has helped me to become more open-minded in other assignments as well as being smart about where I find information and how I utilize what I've researched correctly. To summarize it all, she is an amazing instructor! -
Marci DeCaro

College of Arts and SciencesDr. DiBlasi really made the learning experience fun for archaeology. I enjoyed the supplemental material that went with the chapters, giving a much deeper insight into the content. I would recommend this professor to other students and would definitely take another class.
He was a great professor, his experience in the field was an invaluable tool which he used to communicate ideas very effectively, and his method of teaching helped as well. Best professor I had this semester. -

College of Arts and SciencesShe's the best!! -
Margaret D'Silva
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesDr. D'Silva is an amazing instructor. She is so positive and made me look forward to our next discussion. Although I had her for an online class, she was the most helpful and readily available professors I have had this semester. I took 21 hours in order to graduate, and any question I had, she was there to answer for me. My only regret is that I was not able to take more than one class with her. She is amazing, and I would love the chance to take her again, if I was not graduating. -
David Dubofsky
Finance
College of BusinessI have had the honor of being in a classroom taught by Dr. Dubofsky. He has definitely made an impact on me in the classroom and beyond. Luckily, I will have to take one more class with him. Dr. Dubofsky goes above and beyond for his students. He is patient and takes his time with all of his students. He has always been available for any reason--from career talk to academic inquiries, even when the course has ended or when I have needed help with another course. He has an outstanding attitude and without mention, a deeply-extensive knowledge, it seems there is no unanswered questions. His style of teaching is very intuitive and natural, which makes his lessons interesting and hands-on. It would be an utmost mistake not to consider him for the Favorite Educator Award, as I am sure I could find numerous more student testimonies in his favor. -

College of Arts and SciencesShe is driven, dedicated, and creative in her pursuits of showcasing a colorful way to view writing and music.
She made an effort to bring out my full potential. She would always talk to me and tell me what I need to work on and how I could improve myself. -
Ayman El-Baz
Bioengineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringExcellent teaching with a very good orientation towards practical implementation.
Dr. El-Baz is one of the few instructors at UofL who has two of the rarest characteristics. One, he has the patience to teach students and work individually with those who are struggling. Two, he puts himself in the shoes of his students to help translate, through his lectures, the concepts that are in the textbook.
He never gives up on his students. He is a fountain of encouragement. Very hardworking, and I hope to foster those qualities in myself.
I would like to thank Dr. El-Baz for his continuous guidance, leadership, and support.
Dr. El-Baz is a very respectful professor who is dedicated to the teaching and research process. He is always cooperative with his students at all levels. -
Imad Elhaj
Finance
College of BusinessDr. Elhaj has truly gotten through to me, and I have learned more in his class than any I've taken the last four years. -
Steven Ellis
Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics
School of MedicineI have been to several amazing schools during my undergrad and preparatory education. Dr. Ellis is far and away my favorite. He is excellent at explaining extremely complicated topics in such a way that makes sense and is easily digestible. I have quite simply never encountered a professor more dedicated and invested in our education. Before an exam, he walks through the library to ensure no student has questions or is confused with the material. While Dr. Ellis is an amazing lecturer, it's the small things that he does that make him an excellent professor. Just save yourself some time and award him the title every year for the duration of his time at UofL.
Great teacher. Tried to teach things in a way to make them interesting and relatable. Went above and beyond to help all his students.
Dr. Ellis is an exceptional professor who merges the gaps between biochemistry and medicine. He strives not only to teach us the fundamentals of biochemistry but eloquently relates it back to clinical relevance with sharp logic. He aims to educate not for memorization but deeper understanding, and for that I am very grateful. Although biochemistry can be difficult, Dr. Ellis makes it fun and goes out of his way to make sure that we have a good understanding of the processes in order to set us up for future success as physicians. Beyond his duties as a professor, he also comes in on the weekends and sets up weekly reviews to elucidate any confusions that we may have. You can tell that he not only loves the subject he teaches, but he also truly cares about his students despite his endearingly sardonic quips. -
Carl Enoch
Kent School of Social WorkCarl Enoch is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He meets his students on their personal academic level and relates to them well. He was one of the only teachers I have ever had who told me that my learning was the most important thing; previous teachers would dictate assignments and due dates by what is easy and convenient for them. Mr. Enoch responds to the needs of his students, in many ways. Mr. Enoch gives excellent feedback and many opportunities for students to receive that feedback and other help. Mr. Enoch's classroom is rich with knowledge, respect, and social work values that make learning mass amounts of policy easy, and almost even fun. I have used many of Mr. Enoch's PowerPoints and supportive research in both academic and personal work. He has taught me to back up my beliefs with evidence in my papers and in personal debates or conversations. I will take everything he has taught me very far along in my career in social work; literally, I have downloaded all of his PowerPoints and PDFS to make sure I don't lose them! This is all coming from someone who swore off policy work her first week in the class, determined that micro was the only thing for me. Mr. Enoch slowly, slyly instilled in me a passion for policy and the macro perspective that emboldens me to bring my voice to everyone before me. -
Laura Escher-Howell
General Dentistry and Oral Medicine
School of DentistryShe is hands down the best faculty on the floor. Stays late and is willing to help students all the time.
Always looks out for the students!
She comes in early and stays late to help her students with patients for the 3rd and 4th years, as well as pre-clinical help to the 1st and 2nd years. Overall great professor.
Dr. Escher-Howell is one of the best and most encouraging clinical faculty I have had the pleasure to work with. She has taught me skills only an experienced dentist has developed through time and private practice. I would not be as confident in my abilities and to work in the real world if it was not for her guidance and instruction. She is truly one of the students' greatest blessings here at ULSD!
Always kind and considerate. I learned a lot from this faculty member.
She's my favorite faculty to work with. Honest and direct, she is a fair and consistent judge of your work. She's in clinic early and stays late. She's a great clinician and is quick to make decisions so that treatment gets done in a timely manner.
Dr. Escher-Howell constantly strives to help and better her students. She shows up to clinic early and will always stay late. She is a true educator in every sense. She has made my final year of dental school the best yet.
She was excellent at teaching clinic techniques and instructions in a respectable and understandable manner.
She was one of the most sincere, kind, and helpful faculty that I have interacted with in my time at ULSD. She not only deserves recognition, but should be the gold standard of how faculty should treat students.
Very helpful faculty
Dr. Escher-Howell is one of the best faculty members. She promotes learning and is always willing to help in any way possible!
Dr. Laura Escher-Howell is the best. My patients love her, and she makes dentistry fun and interesting.
Very wonderful to work with and super helpful. She is a great teacher. Very compassionate.
Dr. Escher-Howell is usually the first faculty to arrive and the last to leave. She cares deeply about the students and is a pleasure to work with.
Dr. Escher-Howell can always be found arriving early and staying late in Clinic. I have learned so much from her and count it a blessing to have worked alongside her. Patients love her and students are devastated to lose her as an instructor.
Dr. Escher-Howell is one of the most-loved faculty at the dental school. She is always ready and willing to help in the dental clinic, as well as in pre-clinical classes. She stays late, gets there early, and the patients love her. She is very deserving of this recognition. Thank you.
I met Dr. Escher-Howell one day in the dental school clinic when I was doing a difficult procedure I had never done before. I was nervous and knew I would likely need some guidance. She was patient, kind, and an excellent teacher. The procedure went flawlessly. Since that day, I look for Dr. Escher-Howell in the clinic to work with. She steps up to do the difficult things and stays calm. She instills confidence in you without saying anything, something I think is not easy to do. Dr. Escher-Howell is a fantastic teacher, dentist, and role model. As a woman, I truly value and appreciate having another female to respect and go to when I need something. Having Dr. Escher-Howell be a part of my education has been so very valuable. I have appreciated each and every time I've worked with her.
Dr. Escher-Howell has made a lasting impact on the Dental School Class of 2017. Her dedication and expertise in her clinical work is unsurpassed. Her bright, lively, caring and infectious personality is looked forward to every day. She holds a great regard for the students she teaches and vice versa. There are some faculty members you only want to go to with your problems, and then there are some with whom you want to share your successes. Dr. Escher-Howell is the latter.
Not only has Dr. Escher-Howell helped me fine-tune my clinical skills, she has also inspired me to want to learn more about patient care. When I was doubting if dentistry was my passion, Dr. Escher-Howell awoke the drive I had when I was first applying to school. She treats me as equal in the field of dentistry while still being the mentor I need to develop my skills.
Great faculty who cares about students becoming competent professionals.
Amazing professor. Truly cares about us as students.
She is the best
Explains procedures and truly teaches us dentistry. She is truly a phenomenal instructor. -
Stuart Esrock
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Esrock has been instrumental in helping design a unique senior practicum experience. As a distant, adult learner with a full-time profession job, I was nervous about working an internship into my schedule. I would not be graduating if Professor Esrock hadn't diligently worked with me to design my practicum. Thank you! -
Jasmine Farrier
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Farrier has had the greatest impact on my academic success while at the University of Louisville. Her lectures are intense, and the demand she places on her students is high, but the knowledge and material you come away with makes the class worth it. -
Michael Fowler

I've never felt more confident in and cared for by a professor before. She really brings passion and warmth to her work. Really, I can't say enough about this professor and all that she does. -
Lauren Freeman
Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Freeman is one of the few people who has had a truly profound and lasting impact on my growth as a person. Her courses have challenged assumptions in how I think about other people and expanded my world-view. Dr. Freeman has pushed me to be my best most empathetic and humanistic self. She has given me a solid foundation in critical thinking, and pushes me to reach for bigger and bigger goals, encouraging me every step of the way. Dr. Freeman is one of those rare people who is really in tune with what each person needs or is interested in, and then uses that information to push people towards opportunities that would fit them well. She has been a solid source for both challenging the way I think and who I am, as well as pointing me toward new challenges and encouraging me the whole way, which has been more meaningful than I could ever hope to describe. Her excitement for my future and her beliefs about what I can accomplish constantly rub off on me, and I've learned from her that no goal is too big. In a world that can be at times discouraging and overwhelming, Dr. Freeman is always a bright positive star to look towards. Her passion for people and her strong, resilient, resolute personality has given me a great model for the type of person I want to be. The person I am and continue to become is much indebted to Dr. Freeman, and I think for an educator to affect not just someone's mind but the core of their person as she has done for me, is a rare but truly invaluable thing, and is the deepest and most genuine type of education you can receive. I am a better person and a better thinker for knowing Dr. Freeman, and the impact she has had on me will, without doubt, last forever.
Dr. Freeman has been a wonderful influence and encourager in my life this past year. She has been my absolute favorite instructor thus far. -
Mark French
Civil and Environmental Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. French has been the best professor I've had! Great teacher.

Dr. Frieboes always does his best to educate and provide students with the tools and opportunities to succeed. He is a vital part of the bioengineering program and I, along with many other students, appreciate his positive attitude and enthusiasm. He has helped to guide many students during their senior design projects by giving positive feedback and criticism to push engineering students to do their best work. -
Jordan Gabbard

College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Gabbard is an outstanding professor who really took the time to make sure his students excelled. Teaching an online course is inherently difficult to begin with, but professor Gabbard did an outstanding job of organizing the material to ensure that the students had the best chance to succeed. He was always available by phone and email to help with any issues which is rare for an online course. He never made you feel like you were a second-class student because you were in the online program. I think he will be a great choice for recognition._x000D_ -

He also knows the information very well and presents it in a form that can easily be understood by the students. He has helped me form a very strong foundation of chemistry knowledge to base my current career goals off of. He is always accessible and willing to help students in any way he can. -
Mary Gregg
REACH--GEN 104
Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student SuccessI failed this class last semester (different instructor), and I basically had no confidence whatsoever in passing it again this semester. With the help of Mary and Brent, I passed the class after countless hours of extra help and their kindness and how they never gave up on me.
Ms. Gregg went above and beyond the call this semester. I am an older student without a strong background in math. Haven't had a math class in decades. I took GEN 104 due to my needing statistics to complete my nursing degree. I was overwhelmed from day one. Mary would not let me give up on myself, let alone withdraw from the class. She has a very unique way of teaching and has a passion for math that I've never experienced. Unlike some college teachers, she cares about her students and is willing to go the extra mile and then some for them. Without a doubt, the best teacher I have ever had in my sixty years of going to school. To not give Mary this recognition would truly be a missed opportunity to say great job to a deserving educator. Thank you for letting me say a few words about this amazing individual.
She made learning math very easy to understand!
She's the best math instructor I've ever had.
Ms. Gregg has a way of explaining math in a straightforward common sense way that took all the anxiety out of math for me. She offered many opportunities for help sessions and one-on-one help. I believe she made all the difference in my understanding of the material. -
Paul Griner
English
College of Arts and SciencesGriner is knowledgeable, approachable, friendly, supportive--all of the things you want from a professor. His graduate creative writing workshop this semester was one of the most useful and productive writing classes I've ever had, and in the top 3 of classes of any type that I've had in my entire collegiate career. -
Jacob Gross
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Jacob Gross was an amazing professor for Educational Resource Management, Post-Secondary Education this semester. It was an 8-week course, but he worked creatively in adapting the course content and utilizing teaching assistants to make the workload manageable. All assignments allowed students the opportunity to apply course content to real life. He is extremely responsive to student emails and understands that, as graduate students, we have busy lives with work and family responsibilities, in addition to our educational responsibilities. I would recommend Dr. Gross' class to anyone! -
Joseph Haake
General Dentistry and Oral Medicine
School of DentistryDr. Haake has accomplished an astonishing task! He has combined everything dental related that has been taught to us for the past two years and combined it all into one semester seamlessly. He perfectly incorporated all the material we have learned over the years to give it all meaning and purpose. Teaching the Treatment Planning course, where all the concepts start to come together, a critical concept as we are about to proceed into the clinic to apply all that we have learned. Dr. Haake was extremely organized throughout the course, perfect balance of other faculty lecturing, periodic quizzes to solidify concepts, and always making the course enjoyable by having a good time in lecture. By the way he lectures, it is obvious the love and passion he has for dentistry and the desire for us to succeed. Thank you, Dr. Haake, for teaching us and for pushing us to succeed. -
Lynne Hall
School of NursingI am not sure if this is open to PhD students, but I wanted to recognize Dr. Lynne Hall in the School of Nursing. She is so patient and caring. She has motivated me to finish my PhD. I am finally in dissertation data collection. I am not sure I would finish the degree if it weren't for her encouragement and support. -
Martin Hall
Kent School of Social WorkDr. Hall has an outstanding attitude when it comes to teaching. He has a great teaching style and knows how to help students to understand theoretical concepts. He never misses to encourage his students and to give opportunities to practice theoretical knowledge, as well as to discuss difficult situations with clients in class. He is using a lot of tools to help students not only to gain knowledge but to grow personally. Moreover, he did a great job in structuring the class to ensure that we as students would be able to understand the whole process of an intervention and that assignments are not only a performance evaluation, but even more, another tool to improve our skills. Dr. Hall has a great knowledge in his field but never looks down on his students but always makes sure to meet them on eye level. He was truly the best teacher I ever had. (SW640, fall semester 2016)
Dr. Hall has served as my mentor this year, and during that time, we have written most of a program evaluation of a state intervention of a child welfare intervention and published two papers together. He is a committed teacher and researcher who uses his talents to try and improve the lives of those who suffer with addictions to drugs and alcohol. His work is an asset to UofL and the lives of his students. -

Jenna Haugen
Management
College of BusinessDr. Haugen is truly amazing. She is understanding and caring, but also accurately prepares you for the business world. The assignments we do are relevant, and she is always willing to work with you. Ending my sophomore year, Dr. Haugen has truly become one of my favorite professors. She is interested in not only what I do in class but also in life, an interest a professor hasn't given me before. She's truly impacted college life, and I only wish I could take her class again. -
Robert Hausladen

College of BusinessJust an overall great teacher and person. Very easy to talk to and very motivating.
Professor Hausladen goes above and beyond to always ensure students understand the material and understand the real-world application. He makes learning fun and is constantly working on his teaching strategies and incorporating new technology. Not only is he a great teacher, but it is obvious he is also a great person who truly cares about his students. -
Barry Haworth
Economics
College of BusinessDr. Haworth is one of those professors I would recommend to all of my friends, even if it means waking up for an 8 am. He has high expectations of his students but makes achieving these expectations doable (and admittedly sometimes fun) through engaging lectures and coursework. I have learned things in his class that I know I will continue to use and think about far beyond my time in college, even though I am not an economics major.
He is the best professor I have had. Very tough class, but he helps anyone who asks. -
Theresa Hayden
Criminal Justice
College of Arts and Sciences/Kent School of Social WorkDr. Hayden is a great professor. Her teaching style can be a bit much for some, but I think it made learning research more interesting.
She was a tough but fair teacher, and I appreciate her teaching style. Maybe not in the moment, but definitely now that I have reached the other side.
She is very personable and will do whatever it takes to make sure that you understand what she is teaching.

Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentAnn has an amazing ability to connect with her students. She listens to everyone's thoughts and gives her best insight on the lessons we are learning about from a professional point of view. Ann is the essence of scholar-practitioner.
Course was organized and expectations were clear. Grading, feedback, and responses were provided in a timely manner. Extra assistance was provided for difficult concepts. She is knowledgeable and confident about the content.
Dr. Ann Herd was professional and stirred up lots of critical thinking on many topics covered.
Dr. Herd has been an exceptional instructor/educator in the MS HROD program. I have been fortunate enough to have had her for three of my classes, and each time she has been exceptional and fostered a great learning environment. She freely shares her knowledge and experience which contributes greatly to the class content and material. She has a genuine concern for our ability to comprehend the class material and apply in the various class projects and assignments. She is a valuable asset to the HROD program and the University of Louisville. All of her classes have been both challenging and rewarding, which made me a better student. I strongly feel she should be recognized for her efforts and her commitment to excellence.
Dr. Herd is a rock star! Not only is she knowledgeable, but she understands the importance of engaging her students and motivating them to learn. As a nontraditional student, this was imperative to my graduate success!
Dr. Herd makes students feel as if they can accomplish anything. She advises on degree plans, paper topics and career goals while assisting with class-specific questions. Dr. Herd is a great resource and makes students feel their input is valuable although they are learning from her.
Very helpful and very knowledgeable!!!! -
Nicole Herring
Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology
School of MedicineBEST BY FAR!!
I cannot express my gratitude for Dr. Herring enough. She has been instrumental in my understanding and learning of anatomy, and I believe she is the most deserving person for this award. Even on the weekends and late into the evenings, she responds to all students' emails individually with long, thought-out, thorough responses. She has gone above and beyond for our class all semester. In addition, this was the inaugural year for the dental injections lab in which she had specific cadavers for us with which to practice giving injections. This is something that has never before been done at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry or any other dental schools that I know of. In addition, one of the most important things I've learned from her is compassion. She, through her own actions and as well as in words, conveyed to us the gift that had been given to us by the Willed Body Program, which she runs. She placed infinite emphasis on the importance of having our first patient, the person who so graciously donated their body so that we may learn from them and trusted us to treat them well. At the conclusion of the lab portion of the class, she organized a ceremony for the families of the donors where we heard performances from the choir as well as read letters that we had written to the donors and their families. There is no one else that could have given this semester the importance and impact that it has had on me and my colleagues, and Dr. Herring deserves this award more than anyone and deserves to have her accomplishments recognized. Thank you.
Dr. Herring injected life into anatomy and made it a subject I enjoy instead of dread. She brought energy, levity, and her unique love for the subject to every class. She not only managed the entire course without showing the toll it must have taken on her, but she even surpassed her job description--learning each student's name personally, arranging supplemental injection labs, and even personally emailing us our specific questions missed when the scantron machine broke down. For these reasons and many more, Dr. Herring has left a marked impression on my education, perception of anatomy, and approach to challenges in the future.
Dr. Herring went above and beyond to teach anatomy. Not only did she incorporate more dissections just for our dental background (e.g. injection blocks and oral surgery procedures), she also would create the best diagrams to aid our studying. She was always available to answer our questions and encouraged us to become avid learners. My only wish was to have Dr. Herring's course to be longer because now I would like to have more anatomy. Thank you!
I am so grateful for Dr. Herring. She takes pride in the success of her students. She went above and beyond to make sure that as individuals we understood the material. She made the material fun and engaging. This anatomy class is by far one of the best teaching experiences I have had thus far at UofL. Dr. Herring made us feel less like students and more like family! She deserves this award, and I believe everyone in our class of 118 would agree that she amazing!
Words cannot describe how thankful I am to have Dr. Herring as an instructor. Dr. Herring has been one of the most influential people that I have encountered since I've started this dental school journey. Not many teachers that I've had during my educational career has gone out of their way to make sure I had a clear understanding of the material in the class like she has. She goes above and beyond for us, from creating charts and graphs to help learn material, to emailing each and every one of us INDIVIDUALLY on what concepts we need to focus on for an upcoming exam. If it wasn't for her guidance, gross anatomy would have been a very difficult course to get through; but thanks to her, anatomy has been the best class thus far!
Incredible instructor with a real passion for students. Genuinely wants them to succeed.
She was flat out amazing! She was so intriguing to learn from, and I never wanted to miss her class. She gave me the confidence to trust myself, but she also pushed me to be a better student and future dentist. -

College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Horn took on our class at the very last moment. Each week, her enthusiasm and expertise reinvigorates my passion for teaching. Her extensive knowledge in special education, coupled with her incredibly helpful hands-on teaching methods, has helped to make her class the most beneficial and enjoyable class that I have had the pleasure of attending in either my undergraduate or postgraduate experience.
I sincerely hope Dr. Horn will be teaching future classes. I would enroll in every one! She's an effective communicator with endless practical experience that she uses every class to relate to students and their work. -

Lateefah Id-Deen
Middle and Secondary Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Id-Deen has been a blessing to me honestly since I came to UofL back in 2015. I felt very scared and awkward, almost as if I had no one to turn to, and here she was checking on me, making sure I was okay and whatnot. It was foreign but welcomed. She made me feel welcomed which was something I hadn't felt in such a long, long time. She made me feel connected, stronger, and much more passionate about the field I was going into. I have never felt like I could open up to another professor or advisor the way that I have with her. Honestly, she has put such a light in my life that I will never forget and always want to keep.
She always showed up to class with a smile on her face and made math methods for elementary ed fun! She is hardworking, dedicated, and tries her absolute hardest to connect with all of her students. One of the best professors (if not the best) that I've had at UofL!
This professor is knowledgeable and passionate about mathematics content in the classroom. She is a well-rounded person with a glowing personality. Very grateful to have her as my professor this semester and learn various ways to teach math in my classroom.
Please choose Dr. Id-Deen. I felt like I wasn't going to be a good enough mathematics teacher. She encouraged and provided with all the help I needed, without knowing about my low confidence. I know I am now prepared to teach and manage a classroom because of the content in her class that prepared me. She inspires others by just being real. She's the "realist" professor I've ever met and you can't replace her.
Dr. Id-Deen is one of the most compassionate, dedicated and inspiring instructors I've had at the University of Louisville. She made an effort to build a positive and fun classroom community, demanding respect and maintaining high expectations for all. As a student receiving accommodations, she was always supportive of my individual needs. Dr. Id-Deen is genuine. She leads by example, helping mold me into a better educator and person.
Dr. Id-Deen is easily one of the coolest and most personable professors I have ever had. She consistently makes every class engaging and relevant to her students. I will miss my Tuesday afternoon math methods course.
I wrote this professor a poem, because she really did make a difference in my semester. (Ignore the unprofessional part because she was professional at all times, it was an inside joke in the class.) Lumiere I remember at the beginning of the semester I was skeptical About a Math Methods class, the last experience I had In a math class at UofL wasn't the best, I stayed optimistic Thankfully, I was wrong and Math Methods turned out To be my favorite class this semester and it all had to do With my professor. Creative, funny, sometimes unprofessional, But always engaging Dr. Id-Deen. Her focus was on building Personal Relationships with each student and making everyone Feel welcomed in her classroom. Each Math Methods class Was more than enjoyable. Every single day I felt I was learning Something valuable and sometimes Dr. Id-Deen didn't even need to teach it. Being the only male student in the class I always feel out of place But Dr. Id-Deen brought me closer to my classmates and her By calling my classmates “Beauties” and me “The Beast"Little things like that really went a long way. I honestly loved How calm everything was in that class. It felt like everyone Was there for the ride and every class I left with the biggest smile On my face, wishing every college class was like that. Dr. Id-Deen Made me glad I chose the field of teaching, I hope I can be on Her level someday. Probably not but one can hope. Dr. Id-Deen everything I said in there is true. At the end of every class, I had a huge smile on my face. I had the best time in your class, and I appreciate all the things you have done for me.

W. Kyle Ingle
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentAvailable, knowledgeable, affable, direct, willing, prompt, demands excellence. These words describe Dr. Ingle's character.
Dr. Ingle has been the backbone of our doctoral cohort. With so much transition of faculty during our studies, he has been the one constant facilitating both our first and last classes. Dr. Ingle has been a wonderful mentor for me, helping to shepherd me through a successful dissertation proposal defense, and has me in a great position to complete my dissertation on time. His feedback is timely and useful, and he always has time to meet with not only me but other students in my cohort. In the classroom, his instruction is relevant, and he provides opportunities for not only class discussion, but for us to discuss topics among ourselves. I am certain that I am not the only one who would say that Dr. Ingle is the favorite professor of the Block '17 Ed.D. Cohort.
While I have not been a student of Dr. Ingle's to date, he was one of the readers of my comprehensive exam. His feedback was thorough, thoughtful and timely as I made revisions to move forward. I'm looking forward to learning more from him this summer and in the future.
I am pleased to nominate William Kyle Ingle as my favorite educator. The longer I know him, the more I admire him. He has guided me through my doctorate journey with firm yet kind direction. He is professional, diligent, and timely in instruction/grading. He provided incredibly helpful feedback. Speaking of feedback, he blazes through assignments and returns them with valuable feedback in record time! To know him is to appreciate his sense of humor. I chose him to be the chair of my dissertation committee because he is the toughest, and I knew he would have me ready to defend when the time came. He did. He is there when I need him; his door is always open. He is well-deserving of this recognition.
It is an honor to nominate Dr. Kyle Ingle for recognition as a Faculty Favorite. I cannot express how thankful I am (nor how thankful my classmates are) that I have had the privilege of knowing and working with Dr. Ingle throughout my doctoral studies. Dr. Ingle's classes have been great--I have used everything I have learned to impact the lives of students in our community. But it's not just his courses that have inspired me to nominate him to be recognized here: it's his persistence, support, encouragement, and other learning opportunities that he provides to his students that makes him so valuable as a professor to the University of Louisville's College of Education and Human Development. He is my Faculty Favorite! -
Rebecca Jemian
Academic and Professional Studies
School of MusicDr. Jemian has been so much more than a professor: she has been an inspiration, a mentor, and a friend. Coming from a rural background with no experience in the field, she provided me with the opportunity for success in music theory. Besides helping with my graduate school application process, in which she has been nothing short of vital, her dedication to every individual in her classroom could not be more apparent. She goes above and beyond the duties of her title in her dedication to students, her immense body of scholarship, and her passion for the field of music theory. -
Abi John
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesAbi is the best professor I have had so far in my college career. He knows how to make every single student feel included in the class, as opposed to picking a few favorite students like most professors. The class (Comm 111) was very hands-on, which is the way all college courses should be. I have never learned so much about myself and how to actually apply what I am learning in my courses to my life. He makes sure to help every student if they are struggling in any way, which most people didn't need help because he was a great professor. He was always willing to take suggestions on how to better accommodate our needs and how to improve the class. I really can't say enough good things about Abi!
Professor John was an amazing Public Speaking teacher! He was helpful, easy to talk to, passionate about his field, and creative in how he taught. I've recommended him to many friends. -

School of Public Health and Information SciencesDavid is a professor who cares about what you learn and how you retain it. Not only is David a good professor in teaching, but he is also a professor you can go to if you have questions or concerns about anything.
Dr. Johnson has fulfilled several roles for me as a student over the past two years. He has performed them all with care, respect and an immense amount of knowledge that I have benefited from both directly and indirectly. He is dedicated and available and deserves to be recognized.
David makes all classes fun! It's never a dull moment! He's really understanding and knows that his class isn't the only class you are in.
Dr. Johnson is an amazing professor who engages students in the classroom through interactive presentations. His course style has taught me skills necessary to be competitive in acceptance to the top graduate schools and present at prestigious research conferences. He promotes teamwork, independent learning, critical thinking, and communication skills--all of which are vital as a future member of the workforce. He is very passionate about social justice issues and works in class to inspire us to fight for health equity for all populations. Outside of the classroom, he also promotes social justice through his current and former research endeavors. I have taken Dr. Johnson's course a total of three times, and I feel that I can go to Dr. Johnson for more than just course questions, but also advice on my professional life. I am confident from our conversations over the past year and a half he works tirelessly to promote learning of his students, and I can't think of someone more deserving of this award. -
Detra Johnson
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Johnson has been an amazing instructor and has pushed me beyond what I believed I was capable of. She is the first adviser I have had to reach out to me and has been purposeful in demonstrating that she believes in me. She has given so much advice and is willing to meet whenever I need help. I truly appreciate her leadership mentality and transferring that into our class discussions.
Dr. Johnson was a perfect addition to the Ed.D. program. Her wealth of urban and other experiences and realness in her teaching methods positioned her to move my thinking (and that of others in our cohort) to depth of content understanding in meaningful ways. She's a gifted educator, great thinking partner and encourager. She has made me better. I'm thankful for that. -

Elizabeth Jones
Pan-African Studies
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Jones is one of the most engaging professors I have had at UofL. She really engages her students by going above and beyond just regurgitating information from the reading. In addition to her amazing work inside the classroom, she has an open-door policy that she really commits to. Her office is always open for students who have questions regarding class or even just life. She shares worthy advice with students about how to prepare for life after undergrad. She's also heavily involved in the community. All around, Professor Jones does so much to be an outstanding faculty member.

Micah Kamrass
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentMicah Kamrass is not only an expert in his profession (Legal Attorney specifically for Greek life in institutions of higher education as well as adjunct faculty), but is enthusiastic in his teachings. He made a subject that almost seemed dreadful (Legal Issues in Higher Education) an enjoyable experience. He values the instructor-student connection and made our first assignment to have a phone conversation with each student so that he can learn more about us individually rather than just educationally through coursework. For an online course, I have felt more as a part of a "community" than any other online course I have taken thus far. He offered our class section an opportunity to appear on campus (or via Skype) to have an in-class discussion on class materials. Not only did he make this two-day event, totaling in 12 hours, very content-based and worthwhile, but helped us understand and comprehend the legalities that can sometimes seem like another language. Micah displayed genuine concern for our learning and growth in his course and was always available for additional assistance, as a faculty member should be, and went above and beyond to be flexible to assist us students on our time with our needs. He kept his online classroom organized and easy to follow, which can sometimes be a rarity for online courses, and he graded fairly. Even though he graded fairly, he was always available to discuss grades in order to improve them in the future. My online classroom experience has been positively impacted by Micah and the more instructors--online or on campus--like Micah, the better online and classroom learning will be. -

Alexander Kerns
Health Management and Systems Sciences
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Kerns has been an outstanding Healthcare Finance professor for the MPH and doctoral-level students. The majority of the class had no prior healthcare finance knowledge, but Dr. Kerns was able to present the material in a way that promoted student learning. Dr. Kerns was not only outstanding in the classroom, he was available to give advice about upcoming interviews for fellowship positions. I truly believe that Dr. Kerns has been the most influential professor on my entire collegiate career. Since Dr. Kerns had gone through the fellowship process, he understood the feelings that the students were having and was able to help us through the process. Not only did Dr. Kerns care about our learning in the classroom, he tried to make the examples "real-world applicable" because he understands that the reason we are pursuing this degree is to work in the healthcare sector. I believe that this recognition would show Dr. Kerns that he has made a positive impact on my life and the other students he has helped. He has been extremely supportive of his students, and when we are required to present in front of class, he creates a welcoming environment and provides constructive criticism. I believe this support and the culture of the classroom that he helps to create is why Dr. Kerns deserves to be recognized as a favorite educator. -
Meena Khalili
Fine Arts
College of Arts and SciencesMeena is truly an amazing professor. She challenges and encourages her students to do better and better work throughout her courses. She is truly dedicated to helping students become outstanding and ambitious designers and adults. Though she constantly challenges us, she is also constantly available to her students. She is always going above and beyond for us by staying after class or meeting outside of office hours to give us feedback on our projects and to answer questions about projects, inspiration, life, and otherwise. She makes sure we are exposed to great and provoking design, and invites design professionals to talk with her classes and even introduces students individually to them. It's easy to see that Meena is passionate about teaching and that she cares about every one of her students. I am positive that she is an inspiration to each of us who have had her in class since she began working at the University, and I am humbled to have her as a mentor. -

College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Kimbell masterfully designs her course to challenge and enlighten the student in the field of strategic communications. I enjoy her balanced approach. She is personable and available for questions or concerns. It's a delight to be one of her students. -
Audrey Kline
Economics
College of BusinessVery helpful and kind teacher, genuinely cares about the subject matter and her students.
I was so nervous about taking an economics course--it was unlike any class I had taken, and I knew it was going to be a struggle for me. Professor Kline made my economics experience way better than I expected. She was always willing to meet outside of class and focused on making sure her students understood the material. The layout of the class is very simple--making it easy to follow along. Professor Kline also connected the class material with real-life situations, which was probably my favorite part of Econ201.
She was my economics professor. I am a complete left-brain type thinker, so of course economics was a constant struggle for me. There were things that everyone considered to be common sense and simple solutions, but to me, it made no sense at all. Ever. And I am not a slacker student. I even repeated the course to attempt to understand. The level of accommodation and understanding she gave was unmatched. I have never been more grateful for a professor's determination in her student because I've never needed it. But I'm so thankful I came across her when I did finally need the commitment from someone other than myself.
Dr. Kline is my favorite professor because she always went above and beyond to ensure that she was giving us the best possible content for the entirety of the class. She was always well-prepared and made learning interesting and enjoyable. I highly recommend Dr. Kline to any future business student.
Dr. Kline made my learning experience truly one-of-a-kind. Her micro economics course was the first I had ever taken in the business school. After hearing many horror stories of how rigorous this course was, I had not come to class looking forward to learning economics. Much to my surprise, after the first day, I knew this was going to be one of my favorite classes I had taken at UofL. Learning from a professor who has a passion for what they are teaching, can make all the difference in a student's learning experience. I'm sure that making economics fun to learn is not an easy task, but Dr. Kline does it with stride! I had never encountered a teacher in any class who seemed to genuinely care about their students' learning experience until I had taken this course. Attending her 8 a.m. class was never a chore, because I looked forward to hearing her lectures each day and how she can relate tough economic concepts into an easy to comprehend everyday scenario seamlessly. I can't speak for other students, but Dr. Kline is truly an amazing teacher, and her class was one I will never forget.
Very accessible and understanding of her students! One of the most caring teachers I have had at UofL, really cares about her students doing the best they can in the course.
She is a very good professor, she really moves at the class's pace and doesn't rush anything. She also makes economics fun. If you can do that, then you have to be great at your job! I really enjoyed her this semester.
Professor Kline is easily one of my favorite teachers I have ever worked with. She helped me through the material that I truly struggled with and was always willing to work with me to better understand the material. In class she used real-life examples and always tried her hardest to make class interesting, even when the material wasn't necessarily inherently interesting. -
Steven Koenig
Bioengineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Koenig is supportive and is genuinely happy to see me doing well in school. This means a lot to me personally and makes a big difference. He put in a lot of effort to give students unique educational experiences. He invited guest speakers to share and teach us about their research and their jobs. He made arrangements for us to meet a special lady who is benefiting from relevant research and device development which relates to what Dr. Koenig is teaching us. And he arranged for us to visit two places where we could see and experience some of the research that's being done and how past research and development is being used. It's clear that Dr. Koenig wants to share with students what he's learned. He is always positive and encouraging, and pushes us to grow as engineers. He creates an environment where we are comfortable and can learn, explore and ask questions. He was available to students, stayed after class every day to answer questions and discuss anything we wanted to learn more about, and made sure that we felt comfortable doing so. He made learning about device design fun. Dr. Koenig stressed throughout the course that our primary focus is people's safety and improving quality of life. We are very lucky that he is at UofL and is teaching us how to be better engineers. We have learned so much from him. -

Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesThis professor obviously puts great work and detail in running a class (PHIL308) that has been utterly eye-opening, engaging, and very important for my development as a student philosopher. He provides a challenging, but friendly environment where all present are intellectually liberated to do their best work. His critiques of student papers are thorough, and he does very well to convey to us how to properly do philosophy, form an argument, and think critically. One of the best teachers I've ever had. -

Karen Kopelson
English
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Kopelson's class was one of my favorite classes I've taken in my time at UofL. She was extremely helpful, informative, and made class really interesting. Even as someone focusing on English, I still learned a lot about the basics of literature analysis. I really enjoyed everything she did with the class.
Dr. Kopelson has consistently been incredibly impactful on my college education and my growth as a person. Her courses have challenged my world-view, expanded my thinking, and given me a solid foundation for my future education and life experiences in general. She is always honest, straightforward, and genuine. Dr. Kopelson has had a profound impact on my critical thinking skills and development as a person, which I think is absolutely the most valuable thing to be gained from college, and yet is something not every course or every professor is able to do for you. When someone challenges me and pushes me to grow in how I see the world, they have made an invaluable impact on my life, for which I will be forever thankful, and I can say with certainty that Dr. Kopelson is one of those rare, truly incredible people who has done that for me throughout my college education. The impacts she has had on me will no doubt last a lifetime. Anyone can give you reading material or have you memorize things, but it takes a special kind of person to pick the right material, and present it in an engaging and compelling way as to make such a lasting impact on the students themselves. Years from now I may not remember every single article we read in class, but I will absolutely remember how Dr. Kopelson affected me and changed me as a person, and that, I think, is the purest form of education that exists, and one that not every educator achieves. -

Elizabeth Krauss
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentProfessor Krauss has been a phenomenal instructor and mentor. She has gone completely out of her way to ensure that the course material was presented in a simple, easy to understand format while also being available after hours and on weekends if needed. After hours contact is sometimes the absolute most stressful time for a student and usually when help is needed the most. Professor Krauss seemed to be always available to make sure the individual student understood the course content and direction. Her patience and dedication to the student is clearly evident in her teaching style and manner, while taking all of the time needed to help the student. Professor Krauss has made this Spring semester one of the best semesters of my lifetime college education. Hats off and a bow to Ms. Krauss. I hope that I am able to attend additional classes with this outstanding educator.
Elizabeth was great this semester. I am returning to college after a very long absence. She was supportive and extremely helpful, especially when I thought I would have to have surgery. She is an asset to your team. -
Kathryn Lafferty
Comparative Humanities
College of Arts and SciencesKathryn was incredible. I truly enjoyed coming to the class, despite how early in the morning it was. I could tell how passionate she was about the subjects at hand and that she really cared about each and every student in the class. She made the effort to talk to and get to know everyone individually, making sure we had the resources available to us to succeed. I will truly miss having her as a teacher. I wish more were as caring, passionate, and committed as she is. -

Katie Leslie
Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Katie Leslie is an excellent professor who engages students in and outside of the classroom. I first met Dr. Leslie as an incoming freshman at UofL through a diversity program she coordinates. She does extensive work as an advisor to empower students from underrepresented groups and individuals interested in serving underrepresented populations as health professionals. As a professor, Katie makes the course content interactive, fun, and easy to digest. Through her assignments, she promotes the ideal that public health requires empathy and community involvement through simulating the bus route many individuals take every day. Also, Katie is a fantastic mentor. She is always willing to help me plan my career path and find volunteer contacts. I highly recommend Katie for the favorite educator award due to her drive and ambition to promote social justice and health equity. Katie is a phenomenal professor who genuinely cares about promoting ideals of health equity and inclusiveness both in the classroom and in the community. During lecture she incorporates current literature and events to increase relevance and context of the course. In addition, the experimental activity challenges students to get involved in health equity initiatives around Louisville. Outside of class, Dr. Leslie also promotes diversity and inclusivity through her position on the Health Sciences Campus. -

Brandeis School of Law"Professor Ariana Levinson of the Brandeis School of Law is my nomination for favorite educator. While there are plenty of reasons why Professor Levinson is so deserving of recognition via this award, I'd like to summarize them generally and provide a small note on each one. Professor Levinson is an exceptional educator deserving of recognition because she:
1) Cares for Students Beyond What is Required
2) Is Devoted to Creating Well-Rounded Attorneys
3) Challenges Students to Become Better
Please allow me to expand upon each of these for a moment.
Caring for Students
While all of the Brandeis staff should be commended for their unique commitment to student success, Professor Levinson cares for students beyond what is required of a teaching instructor. Dedicated to continually improving her learning environment based on student's needs, Professor Levinson takes a lot of student input into account when determining how best to teach a concept. In fact, several times this year, Professor Levinson allowed, however briefly, even the students themselves to become the teacher by allowing them to present slides, ideas, and strategies just as an attorney would do in a meeting with a client. Professor Levinson also takes a personal interest in students' lives--especially those challenged by the subject--by reaching out individually and requesting that these students take the time to speak with her personally about problems, difficulties, and questions they've continually had come up with the material. Often, these conversations go beyond the classroom and Professor Levinson checks in to make sure that her students are doing well emotionally and academically, since problem in the one can so frequently translate the other. It's the kind of individualized touch that, in the stressful environment of law school, often makes the difference between an awful day and one which is, all things considered, a little bit brighter.
Devotion to Attorney Growth
Professor Levinson's classes are unique. In one, a required part of the course involves going out into the Louisville community and actually watching a legal proceeding take place. This semester, our class went to a Workers' Compensation Benefit Review Conference. Initially, this didn't strike too many of us as fun, noteworthy, or even relevant. Yet after experiencing it, I believe that many of us, myself included, developed a deeper, more personalized perspective not just about what we'll be doing with our legal degrees but who we'll be doing it for. Law is about service and service, at its core, is always about helping people. Yet we don't usually do a whole lot of interacting with the people who will, perhaps one day, become our clients. And while there are good reasons for this, the conferences were a subtle reminder that, while everything we've been learning is critical for our future success as attorneys, much of it means little if we are not doing it, ultimately, for somebody. It's easy to forget about who we serve when we're at school learning all kinds of different legal doctrines. Undeniably, this learning is a significant part of what makes law school so rewarding to so many. But our profession demands well-rounded, sharp, empathetic attorneys who act out of a desire to serve another. And though few would disagree, the widespread acceptance this notion makes all too easy to forget in the midst of each semester. Professor Levinson's use of this unique, personal, learning opportunity was just another way in which she purposely crafts her teaching to develop well-rounded attorneys and not just legal doctrinaires.
Challenging Students to Be Their Best
Professor Levinson's classes are never easy. Each is filled with ways in which students are continually challenged academically as well as socially. Beyond simply requiring that students know the law and apply it fluidly, Professor Levinson pushes students by making sure that each, several times over the course of the semester, must respond to questions, must address significant news items which are related to the course's subject matter, and must provide to their classmates some additional knowledge about that student which their classmates did not know before taking the course with them. For bashful students like me who often feel more comfortable in silence than engaged in vigorous debate, courses like these are can be dreadful. However, Professor Levinson's courses have proven to be anything but as she creates an atmosphere of empathy and encouragement alongside academic rigor. At semester's end, and for the first time in law school, I found myself truly engaging with the course material, pushing myself to answer questions, and becoming more fully integrated (and even liking!) into an atmosphere which, while still at times daunting, used to intimidate me into silence. Challenging students is always about more than just academics--it is about developing the whole person such that they able to confidently move onward as they leave these halls becoming graduated and respected members of the legal profession. Professor Levinson understands this well and by requiring it in these crucial stages of our professional development, she pushes us to become better than average or even good as she pushes students to become their best." -
Shuang Liang
Oral Immunology and Infectious Diseases
School of DentistryDr. Liang is an excellent mentor under whose mentorship, I have won the poster presentation at Research! Louisville and earned travel awards to present at an international dental conference in San Francisco. He is a person who believes in giving the student an overall educational experience and has encouraged me to participate in student organizations. This has helped foster my leadership abilities along with the academics. Moreover, he is one amongst the rare teachers who goes out of his way to take time and clear my doubts, even on weekends. It is my pleasure to nominate Dr. Shuang Liang for the award as he rightly deserves it. -
Susan Longerbeam
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentFrom the very beginning, Dr. Longerbeam has always been very inviting and understanding. Her motto "be kind always" is something that I constantly remember as I embark on my journey to being a student affairs professional. Being that she is a new faculty member, I expected there to be some uncertainty and confusion, but she took on this role with grace and dignity, and I am so glad that I was able to take her course. Because of Dr. Longerbeam, I have learned soooo much that I will take with me in my professional career and hopefully pass along to future students. I will always appreciate her wealth of knowledge, thoughtful advice, and warm spirit.
The CSP graduate program is lucky to have Dr. Susan Longerbeam. She has not only been there for me as a professor, but also as a mentor. She is incredibly intentional, heartfelt, and honest. I am so thankful for being able to work closely with such an amazing woman. Her personality is refreshing, endearing, and bright. She is simply a joy to be around.
Dr. Longerbeam ensures that diversity is something taught in her classroom not just through the class demographics, but through discussion. -
Douglas Lorenz
Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Lorenz is an INCREDIBLE professor. He truly cares about the success of all students and structures the course, as well as the manner in which he delivers the content material of the course, in a manner that ensures that all students are geared towards success. Dr. Lorenz is the epitome of what all professors should aspire to be like in the classroom setting.
Dr. Lorenz is a very good instructor on what is a challenging subject for many students. He is always available to assist students outside of the classroom, by email and office appointments. He is also very responsive when contacted. The information I learned is very applicable to my profession.
Dr. Lorenz is an extraordinary teacher. He makes a dreaded subject like biostatistics very easy to understand and follow along. He has excellent teaching skills and is very organized and approachable. He is one of the best faculty on the campus. -
Keith Lyle
Psychological and Brain Sciences
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Lyle is a phenomenal professor and has an obvious talent for teaching. After taking two of his classes, I am absolutely convinced that he is the best professor at UofL. His teaching style diverges from static, boring lectures that unfortunately many students (including myself) are accustomed to, and instead, he makes lectures interesting and enjoyable by implementing numerous attention capturing and memory enhancing techniques into his pedagogy. As a memory researcher, he practices what he preaches, and it shows. Additionally, he truly cares for each of his students. In a class of approximately 100 students, he makes it a point to learn each and every person's name. Overall, Dr. Lyle is a gem among UofL professors. I've never had a professor more inspiring than him, and he has definitely made me rethink my career aspirations.

Hardy Mackenzie
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentWhen I reflect on my MS in Human Resource and Organizational Development, I can point to Dr. Mackenzie as my principal mentor (albeit "unofficial"). I have had the privilege of taking several of his courses, and he has enriched my overall experience and understanding of instructional design, adult learning, needs assessment, and navigating the sometimes choppy waters of the scholar-practitioner. He leads rich, informative classes in both online and face-to-face formats, implementing techniques that he teaches everyday with great enthusiasm. He makes a point to engage with all of his students on a personal level, connecting with their interests and experience, and capitalizing on that in the classroom. Much like a skilled conductor can call each musician to play the song while blending with others, Dr. Mackenzie has the ability to create a harmonious, engaging learning environment. On top of his expertise in the classroom, he is available outside for advice on projects, career development, and professional opportunities. In essence, Dr. Mackenzie has made a great impact on my experience in this program and profession. Teachers have always played an important role in shaping who I am as an individual, a learner, and a professional, and Dr. Mackenzie certainly stands out among the greats as a guiding light. Gracias, Danke, Thank you! -
Thomas Mackey
History
College of Arts and SciencesLast year I took Dr. Thomas Mackey's courses on American Constitutional History. These two courses have since set me on a path to pursue a PhD in American Legal History. At every step of the way, Dr. Mackey has encouraged and assisted me with this vision to the best of his ability. -

Andrew Manikas
Management
College of BusinessDr. Manikas is my favorite professor at the University of Louisville. As an instructor, he is attentive, encourages student participation in class, comes to lecture prepared to communicate, and inspires students to seek a deeper knowledge of the course content. Manikas takes a further step by connecting the content in lectures to the value it has for students and their post-degree goals. He offers career advice and mentions opportunities students can take now to make themselves more marketable in the workplace. His style of lecture is very engaging, and I was able to connect easily with him and the concepts he presented in class. I wholeheartedly recommend him as a professor to any student who asks, and I would be very interested to take any other courses he is the instructor for. -
Michael Mansfield
General Dentistry and Oral Medicine
School of DentistryDr. Mansfield helped me after class remount a whole project for my TMD class with Dr. Esposito last semester. He explained how I had mounted the project wrong and helped me mount the casts in the correct occlusion for the course.
Dr. Mansfield has a true passion for teaching and for dentistry, continuously demonstrated in his willingness to help students in any way he can and his positivity in doing so. There are many wonderful faculty at the dental school, but Dr. Mansfield always goes above and beyond to not only ensure students are learning necessary material, but also to ensure they are enjoying learning. I cannot think of a day where I have not seen him with a smile on his face. I attribute much of what I have learned in lab to his constant willingness to answer questions, offer detailed explanations and provide demonstrations. Dental school is a constant challenge and source of stress, but I am grateful to be surrounded by faculty such as Dr. Mansfield who are happy to be truly invested in the success of all students.
During each lab class, there is always a smile on Dr. Mansfield as he walks around helping students with their projects. He is always ready to help anyone who asks and treats everyone with equal respect and enthusiasm. This semester was rather difficult to balance all the workload from lecture courses as well as lab courses, and Dr. Mansfield was a great help in not only helping with projects, but also teaching us about the history and importance of each project.
Dr. Mansfield, throughout my time at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, has been a consistently positive presence in preclinical courses. I have never met a faculty member who demonstrates such a high level of respect for both his students and colleagues. He is always more than willing to share his knowledge. He answers questions with enthusiasm and is always willing to hold a conversation about pretty much anything (especially if it is about music from the 70's). He makes an effort to get to know his students. Dr. Mansfield's lectures are engaging and his positive attitude, even in the most stressful of times, is infectious. -
Patricia Martin
School of NursingI have had Ms. Martin for several programs throughout the BSN program. She has been one of the kindest, most caring instructors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She is always available. She realizes that life happens, and that a lot of us are working full-time and trying to get our degrees. She is fair. She realizes that nursing students are always a little more high-strung and anxious than the average student, and she decreases that anxiety. Above all, she demonstrates empathy, which is the foundation of nursing. Ms. Martin is an asset to the School of Nursing. -
Keri Mathis
English
College of Arts and SciencesThis instructor has gone above and beyond to help her students (including myself) succeed in writing, which is especially difficult to do through an online course. She not only answered my e-mails within minutes after I sent them, but always offered additional materials to help with writing, even if I didn't request them. She fostered an incredibly friendly atmosphere in the class discussion boards, and if she doesn't win this award, at least give this teacher a raise because she worked her butt off for us in class! -
Adam McCord
Performance Studies
School of MusicDr. McCord has been one of the best influences that I've had during my time at the University of Louisville. He is just as incredible of a teacher as he is a musician. He has a unique way of teaching so that I never feel as though I have "arrived," but I have also never felt discouraged in my studies. He has found different critiques lesson after lesson, year after year, and I wholeheartedly believe that I would have the same experience with him if I were to study with him for years to come. Finding a strong musical role model was an important decision in my college choice, and I believe Dr. McCord has excelled not just as a musical role model but also as a strong role model as a person. His dedication to his students is unmatched and seen by many. Who else flies into Kentucky from North Carolina to work twelve hour days back to back? He has worked tirelessly to help all of his private students with a variety of problems; he is just as willing to listen to and help with personal problems as he is to help students succeed in music. Dr. McCord is a well-rounded teacher, musician, and person. I believe he inspires all of students, not just myself, to better themselves in academics, music, and everyday life. He in turn seems to try to learn from his students and better himself still. -
Laurie "Lali" McCubbin
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Lali has done a great job at normalizing the struggles of graduate school while simultaneously encouraging growth and development!
Dr. McCubbin have only been part of our faculty for two years, and during this time, she not only took on seven new doctoral student advisees and a handful of master student advisees in addition to her own research lab that consists of doctoral and master's level students, she also chairs a handful of dissertation committees. She goes above and beyond in her advising and mentorship to all students in the department to ensure diversity, inclusion, equality, equity, and social justice. Dr. McCubbin single-handedly advocated for program and curriculum standardization that enhances the multiculturalism of our training program. She stresses the importance of equity and social justice not only in our identities as mental health professionals, but also as people, and she models that through her own actions. Dr. McCubbin has also led the program through it is accreditation renewal process, a process which she had worked tirelessly on for a whole year to prepare. Our program has transformed so much in such a short period of time since Dr. McCubbin joined us, and we have been so fortunate and privileged to be able to learn from her and share our developmental process with her. As one of her doctoral level advisees, I have personally learned, grown, and developed as a professional and as a person because of Dr. McCubbin. I have learned to be a better psychologist, researcher, teacher, and social justice advocate because of Dr. McCubbin's guidance. I could not have asked for a better, hardworking, more thoughtful faculty to advise me through my doctoral experience.
In her two years as faculty at UofL, Dr. McCubbin has served as a tremendous role model for students at various developmental stages in their careers. She has served as a research mentor, supervisor of clinical services, and advocate for social justice. -
Justin McFadden
Early Childhood and Elementary Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentHe did a wonderful job as a first-year professor. My favorite general education teacher that I had in the program. He made class exciting with stories and interactive assignments. He was willing to talk through things with us if we didn't understand and had a laid-back personality and classroom atmosphere. -
Maggie McGatha
Middle and Secondary Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. McGatha is one of the best instructors I have ever had. She was always willing to meet with me and discuss anything I needed. She was always open to conversation and made class worthwhile. Her class helped me in my classroom, since I am in the master's program. -

Manuel Medina
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Medina is very dedicated and enthusiastic about his courses. He encourages his students to think critically about concepts regarding Mexican nationalism/identity, subversive aspects within film and literature, and cinematic techniques used to convey a particular message. I feel much more confident about expressing my opinions and knowledge about such topics after taking his classes. He shares a lot of fascinating information about Ecuador as well, which is another reason why he his my Faculty Favorite of choice.
He is the best language professor I've ever had. So wise and always willing to go the extra mile for you. I've known him and took classes with him since I started my undergraduate degree at UofL, and now that I am graduating with my master's, I've realized that he had a huge impact on my life. Got to know him a lot better in Brazil during my time studying abroad with his program. In three words, he is amazing! -

Rodney Merkley
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentMr. Merkley is a fantastic instructor. I have had many online courses, and his Instructional Strategies and Group Facilitation Techniques is by far the best online class I have ever had. The lectures, reading materials, coursework, book and assignments were thorough and well thought out. I learned a ton, and I am excited to put it into play in my everyday at work :) -
Cynthia Metz
Physiology
School of MedicineEven in my first semester of my first year at ULSD, I have already had the opportunity to learn from so many outstanding faculty but the one that stands out the most is by far Dr. Cindy Metz. Even though we only had Dr. Metz teach one section of physiology, it is clear why so many people talk about her. It takes a brilliant mind to be able to teach physiology so in depth and know the ins and outs like our instructors do, but it takes a truly special educator to make learning at this level easy. Dr. Metz's interactive lectures, well-structured notes and immense pool of out-of-class resources go above and beyond just teaching content. She is able to really get into the mind of her students and think how we think, make mistakes how we make them and show us how to correct them before we make them, which is rare. If I don't get a chance to thank Dr. Metz in person after our final, I had to let someone know what a huge fan I am of hers!
She is the only instructor that I have had so far that has made lecture PowerPoints enjoyable. Also, the way that she teaches and explains concepts is second to none.
She goes above and beyond to help all students succeed in her class. She goes the extra mile by creating active learning activities and YouTube videos to ensure that we are able to understand the material to the best of our ability. She takes time to do all the things she doesn't have to, so that her students can be the best doctors possible.
She is just an awesome professor.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Obviously is very invested in what she does. Loves her students to the point of optimally engaging them in every lecture. Could not say better things about this woman. -
Larry Michalczyk
Kent School of Social WorkThank you for helping me learn about policy and advocating as a social worker. You most certainly show your students that you care about them personally and academically. I enjoyed having you as a professor for the last two semesters and appreciate all the effort you put into helping your students. Your classes are challenging and rewarding. Thank You
I had Prof M twice last year (2015-2016). He is hands down the best professor I have had at Louisville. I am nominating him again this year because he continued to reach out to say hello and check in even though I was no longer in his class. His passion for policy sparked my own passion for policy. His academic expectations pushed me to excel far beyond my expectations for my own performance. -

College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Mires is a positive and exciting online instructor. Being an online instructor makes both of those really challenging, but through her amazing teaching style, she was able to motivate and excite us to learn. She was always there to answer any questions we may have had and always quick to respond to any and all questions. I feel she deserves to be recognized for her hard work and amazing attitude towards teaching. -

Dr. Mitchell is extremely knowledgeable about her content area. She genuinely cares about her students and facilitates learning by any means necessary. She has been my favorite instructor throughout my three-year college career at the University of Louisville. Because of her, I cannot wait to become a nurse.
Dr. Mitchell constantly went above and beyond for each of her students. She is by far the best professor I've had here at UofL and there needs to be more like her!

Ritendranath Mitra
Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Mitra, is my favorite professor. He is generous and kind enough to make me understand all the basic concepts. I have taken PHST 783 and did GRA work for him. He is always approachable, and I find a sense of comfort while discussing even my basic doubts. He is not judgmental and tries his best to help beyond his office hours. Though I seem to be lost many times in his class, and I found the coding exercises and the homework challenging, but it has definitely contributed to my learning. -
Geri Morgan
Office of Dean of Students
Student AffairsGeri Morgan continually helped me with decisions on what to do with my classes through the hardest time of my life. My 53-year-old mother's cancer started to spread more rapidly, and she was hospitalized and put on ICU two weeks prior to Thanksgiving. I immediately returned home (Pikeville--3.5 hours away) and stayed in the hospital with my mother every day and night until she passed. Geri Morgan stayed in contact with me letting me know my options as the end of the semester approached and was also worried about my mother and would ask me how she was doing. I greatly appreciate everything Geri Morgan did to help me with some big decisions in the roughest time of my life. -

Laura Moyer
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Moyer was a wonderful professor! I have taken two classes with her now and both classes have been outstanding. Dr. Moyer does a great job ensuring that each student in the class has the ability to perform on their own as well as participate full in class. Dr. Moyer also gave us an incredible opportunity to apply what we learned in our class by having a multi-week simulation in which we took on roles of individuals in a Supreme Court case and argument. Professor Moyer really made the material come to life and her class was so interesting and so much fun! -
Kevin Murphy
Mechanical Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Murphy taught a required class with vigor and gusto. He was able to explain complex topics very simply and gave simple topics a thorough explanation. There are things as a senior in Speed School I've re-learned almost every year that Dr. Murphy explained better than anyone I'd ever had. Great teacher, and a very nice and intelligent guy.
Dr. Murphy is one of the best ME instructors in the department. He is extremely knowledgeable about the subject of System Dynamics. He is helpful and caring. He encourages you to learn the course material and be able to use it in employment after school. Great professor! -

College of Arts and SciencesWhen I go to a workshop or meeting in our department, it is rare that I don't see Andrea Olinger there, and that is one of the many reasons why I want to write this note acknowledging her as a faculty member that our department is incredibly fortunate to have. Andrea goes out of her way to be there for graduate students, not only by physically being present, but also giving endless hours of her time to meeting with us, sending us thoughtful, encouraging, and resource-filled emails, and offering a space for us to engage across disciplines through the Discourse and Semiotics workshop series she co-leads with Karl Swinehart in Comparative Humanities, a circle that has brought together faculty and students from English, Education, Humanities, Linguistics, and other departments once a month for almost two years. Thank you, Andrea, for all you do as a faculty member, scholar, teacher, and mentor! -

Martin O'Toole
Bioengineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. O'Toole is a great researcher and professor who highly deserves commendation. His research interests fall under the branch of molecular bioengineering, with projects funded by many national organizations. I volunteered in his research lab for almost two years working on a number of projects, including one funded by a NASA grant. During this time, Dr. O'Toole was a great mentor to me by inspiring me to continue learning through application of my bioengineering coursework and reinforcing my interest in medicine and bioengineering. I hope he is considered as one of the "Top 4" nominees as he truly deserves it. -
Heather Owens
School of NursingDr. Owens is a fantastic professor for nursing students. She always provides real-life, most of the time funny stories to keep us entertained and attentive during her courses, and she never has a boring class. She really feels like she is your friend and is there to help you succeed instead of just showing up and throwing big words at us expecting to just absorb it all. Her personal stories and examples are true, which make it scary for us nursing students, but there is always a valuable lesson from them, which I think is most helpful. Her bright personality and her compassion for nursing shows in her teaching, and overall, she seems to always be in a good mood and let nothing bring her down, which gives a good morale for the class. I think she is a professor who makes us look at nursing from a different perspective, not just the disease processes and nursing responsibilities, but the nursing care and human emotion aspect that we all have because we want to care for people. -

Lori Paris
Kent School of Social WorkLori knew that some of us were really struggling with our final projects and made herself available through text, phone calls, email and Skype. This is what kept me going and pushing this semester. I don't think I would have finished her class without her encouragement and support.
Although Lori's classes are very challenging, Lori does a wonderful job supporting her students and giving them the confidence to complete her class when the going gets tough. Lori is available to reach out to when needed and always returns emails and calls in a timely manner. She is greatly appreciated!
Lori has a passion for research and teaching. Being an online student, her approach to teaching made me more successful as a graduate student. Lori is dedicated to her role and available to students for guidance and support. -

Shawn Parkhurst
Anthropology
College of Arts and SciencesWhile I have only had Dr. Parkhurst for this last semester of my undergraduate career, he has made one of the biggest impacts on my education. Dr. Parkhurst is one of the few educators I have had that truly cares about his students' understanding and knowledge. His material is often difficult, and his knowledge on the subjects can sometimes be overwhelming, but he ensures that all of his students are heard and respected. While in discussion-based classes that cover difficult material, I oftentimes shy away from speaking up or participating because many professors will make you feel inferior if you do not say the "right" thing. However, Dr. Parkhurst's style of teaching makes everyone feel included. Even if I have no idea what is going on, I can feel comfortable in saying so and know that he will try to help explain the concepts. He does not see students as inferior, but active contributors to the ever-growing quest for knowledge. He really listens to what we have to say, even when we sometimes are not listening to our own words. His humor, paired with his extensive knowledge, makes lectures interesting and enjoyable. I have never felt more challenged by a course or a professor during these past four years than I have by Dr. Parkhurst. He has pushed my ways of thinking, my writing skills, and my communication skills to a level that really makes me want to think harder, do better, and question more. I wish I had taken more classes with him, but am grateful for the class I did take with him. As a professor, he made me truly value my education and enjoy learning. He is a vital faculty member of the Anthropology Department as well as the University of Louisville. -
Robert Pennington
Special Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentAs a first semester graduate student, Dr. Pennington was my initial connection to the University of Louisville's College of Education and Human Development. His impression was a splendid one! It was very apparent that he is passionate about his work as well as the learning opportunities for future educators. His enthusiasm can be felt by all, he clearly communicates his expectations, and he offers support when needed. I feel privileged to be a part of the M.Ed. in Autism Spectrum Disorders and Applied Behavior Analysis program here at the University of Louisville.
Dr. Pennington is second to none. In over 20 years of formal education, I have not had a teacher/professor who is more knowledgeable of the content, skillful as an instructor, or supportive of his students. Whoever said, those who can--do, those who can't--teach, obviously has not met Dr. Pennington. Besides all that, he's the front man in a hardcore rock band and that's pretty cool.
Dr. Pennington is working with me for my Summa Cum Laude project, and he has been helpful and supportive throughout the process! I was in his communication course last semester, and his instruction is engaging and his enthusiasm makes the content that much more engaging. He is a great professor, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with him!
Dr. Pennington always goes above and beyond to help me be successful. He dedicates a large portion of his time doing site visits, reading over work before it is due and is always willing to stay behind after class for people to ask for help. He is always professional, and feedback is always prompt and easy to understand. He has very high expectations for his students, however he provides the scaffolding to get us there. I have learned immensely working with Dr. Pennington.
His class is highly informative and engaging. In addition, I utilize what I learned in his course in the real world.
Great mentor and professor! His class was challenging, but everything we did he made exciting, and information was important for me to learn as a special education teacher. -

Wendy Pfeffer
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesPfeffer is arguably one of the best teachers/professors I have ever had. She is unforgiving, not in a way that is needless or aggressive, but the perfect amount that makes her students learn whether they want to or not. Additionally, she is exceedingly knowledgeable about French and will go out of her way to explain the content to us. Finally, she builds her students up, telling us that we are educated and intelligent and should know better if we make a mistake. -
Meghan Pifer
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Pifer genuinely cares for her students and colleagues. Her encouragement, instruction, insight, and advice were influential to my success as a student, an instructor, and for my personal growth during the 2016-2017 SY. She brings energy to a department already filled with other wonderful people, Dr. Charron, Dr. George-Jackson, and especially Dr. Sun, to name a few. She encouraged me in my professional growth during a particularly stressful semester. The Student/Faculty relationship fostered by Dr. Pifer directly resulted in my academic success, for which I received the Outstanding MA Student in Higher Education Administration Award. Thank you, Dr. Pifer! -

Robert Powers
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Powers is one of the best professors I have ever had the opportunity of learning from during my college career. This semester, extenuating circumstances arose in my life, and I was unable to make it to class for a period of time. Dr. Powers was very compassionate and helped me stay on track with the course. Even without my personal circumstances, I know I would appreciate Dr. Powers. He showed immense passion for the course and made every lecture engaging by being enthusiastic and welcoming students' questions, comments, and ideas. Dr. Powers is an outstanding professor. I am a little sad I have no chance of taking courses with him next semester! -
Glen Prater

Dr. Prater has a passion for the field of mechanical engineering. He brings that passion into the classroom which makes going to class more interesting and enjoyable. Dr. Prater has a wealth of knowledge and uses real-life examples in the classroom. Dr. Prater is one of the best professors I have had in my four years attending UofL. -
Regina Presley

College of Education and Human DevelopmentAs a transfer student from UK, I can honestly say Regina Presley is the main reason I succeeded as a SPAD major and soon to be graduate of UofL. I left Lexington to join the program and her outstanding enthusiasm for teaching and effective methods made a world of difference in terms of ability to learn in the classroom.
Always loved having her as a teacher, one of the best! -

Patricia Ralston
Engineering Fundamentals
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Ralston always explains things thoroughly, and even though Calc II is a hard class, she makes sure to simplify things. It makes me feel less intimidated. Also, she and Dr. Tyler make taking calc quizzes super fun by making jokes and handing out candy to those who answer questions right! -
Srinivasan Rasipuram
Mechanical Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Rasipuram knows every one of his students' names. You can tell he cares about the success of his students and always looks for new ways to help us understand the material being taught. It's nice to have a professor who can know you on a somewhat personal basis, therefore allowing him to make better judgments on how to teach. -
James Redmon
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Redmon is hands down the best professor I've had at this school. The way he teaches really helps one understand the material. The class I took with him covered a lot of information, but I rarely had to study since I could easily understand everything he taught, not just memorize stuff. -
Gregory Reinhardt
Computer Information Systems
College of BusinessProfessor Reinhardt was my CIS100 professor. Before the semester, I knew nothing about Excel, Access, or much about computers in general. Professor Reinhardt made this class enjoyable and very interesting. Even though it was a three-hour night class, I always looked forward to his instruction, as he was always prepared and eager to teach. -

College of Arts and SciencesMr. Rico-Storey is a wonderful instructor who has his students' best interests at heart. I always look forward to attending his lecture because of his sense of humor even while ensuring that we are learning. One would know that this is a person who loves what he does.
Great teacher and a great person! Always made class fun and made sure we were learning at the same time! He took time to understand everyone's point of view on certain topics and not just his own. -
David Roelfs
Sociology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Roelfs is by far the best statistics instructor there is. He can explain complex concepts very simply and takes the time to answer every single question without making you feel bad. His single course has taught me more practical statistical knowledge and techniques than my previous three semesters of statistics. He is a true gem at UofL and really deserves to be recognized for his outstanding pedagogy and welcoming personality. -
Linda Rogers

College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Rogers has been amazing : understanding, motivational and personable. If every professor here was like Ms. Rogers, the University would truly be a better place. THANKS, PROFESSOR ROGERS -
Kevin Rose
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Rose was one of my most influential professors in the three degrees that I have earned at UofL. He has an inherent ability to make complex information (research) fun and rewarding. He instills in his students the ability to think beyond their current level to attain the concepts and best practices that make learning so great. He is an embodiment of what the University of Louisville stands for, quality education and student engagement. Dr. Rose should be tenured for sure...a great, great asset to the College of Education and Human Development, and more especially, to the students of the University of Louisville. -

Tommy Roussel
Bioengineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringHe is one of the best professors I have ever had! He makes learning fun and always ties in interesting aspects to the topics being learned. He always wants the students to do well and is always willing to help in any way possible!
Dr. Roussel has made his class, Bioengineering Measurements Lab, a fun and exciting class to attend. He is always available to answer questions and explains things in a way that is easy to understand. He also references back to past labs in his explanations so as to build on things we have already learned. But the greatest thing about this professor is his enthusiasm! He is so excited about op amps and circuits and that is contagious. I have never been as excited for a lab as I am for this class, and so much of that stems from Dr. Roussel's enthusiasm for the class and his dedication to teach. He definitely deserves this award. -
Terri Rowland
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Rowland has been such an outstanding instructor this semester. Being an adult, working, full-time student with children, she is always supportive and encouraging anytime I start to feel overwhelmed. She's always telling me to keep my head up and that I'm doing a great job. She is very understanding, and I searched for a course in the spring to take just because she is teaching.
Professor Terri Rowland promotes the excellence that this University stands for. She is dedicated to the classroom, the University of Louisville and the students that she instructs. Professor Rowland creates a learning environment that keeps the students involved, interested and her passion for instruction goes without question. Professor Rowland is a caring person which makes her stand out above other professors. Her leadership, both professionally and personally, cannot be matched by any other professor on this campus.
Dr. Rowland was very helpful, with clear instructions. She was willing to work with you and offered telephone consulting as well as email. I enjoyed her class.
Dr. Rowland goes above and beyond for her students. She is always readily available and makes sure her students have the best advantage to perform well in her course. This is not the first time I have had this instructor, and she never ceases to amaze me. I wish I could have had the opportunity to have taken more than two courses with her. -
Mark Running
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesI didn't know what to expect coming into Bio 329, and Dr. Running made the transition as smooth as possible. The class isn't easy but he tries to engage the students and relieve them of stress by making us laugh. -

Sharon Sanders
Kent School of Social WorkSharon Sanders is a very intelligent professor and does whatever she can to ensure students learn what they need to know regarding practice.
Ms. Sharon goes above and beyond for us social work students! My cohort and I have all agreed that her "SW practice" course has by far been one of the best graduate courses we've ever taken! Ms. Sharon takes her time to teach us clinical skills that we will use in our professional jobs! She has developed our critical thinking skills through fun and interactive group and peer work, and we have learned so much from her!
Prof. Sanders was the best professor that I had during my time at UofL. She is sweet and genuinely cares about her students and their progress. She gave grades out in a timely manner and gave sound advice. I'm going to miss having her! -
Dominic Schmuck
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentHilarious, makes taking a morning class much better than it would seem and that makes a big difference for someone who works night shift at UPS. He is inspirational and can be blunt, but it is for the best and that has helped improve my work quality as a UofL student in all of my classes. -
Terry Scott
Special Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentTerry Scott was a great instructor. I learned a lot from EDSP 644.
Dr. Scott is an amazing teacher. I have learned so much from taking EDSP 644. Everyday I am applying what I have learned in his class to my current job. Concepts I didn't fully understand were made clear after taking his class this semester. He is very helpful at providing criticism and truly wants all students in his class to succeed.
Terry goes above and beyond consistently. He is an excellent instructor and mentor. -

Nicholas Short
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesNik was an awesome instructor! He always was very prepared and easy to pay attention to. I was very worried about bio 262 before going into it, but his style of teaching and his helpfulness in and outside the classroom made this class better than I thought it would be. I would definitely take him again!
Nik was an amazing TA. He made sure we understood the material and would try his best to be of assistance in any way. He would take time out of his busy day to meet with you, if you needed the help. I would recommend him to anyone!
Nik is so AWESOME! He was my TA this past semester for Biology 262, aka A&P; lab. As monotonous and boring as a class like this may be, Nik brought it to life. He actually made me enjoy memorizing the entire human body. Nik goes out of his way to answer any questions that you may have even if it involves looking up the answer. He also went out of his way and made extra slideshows, videos, and other resources on his own time to help us learn material that people were confused about. These were extremely helpful. Nik is just an all-around good person. He's down to earth, extremely smart, willing to drop anything he's doing to help his students, and a joy to be around. Once he graduates with his PhD, I would 110% recommend that the University of Louisville offer him a full-time position as a professor or something because he is too valuable a teacher to lose.
Nik is absolutely amazing! He goes above and beyond to make sure everyone of his students succeed! College would be amazing if every teacher was like him!
A hard-working teaching assistant. Always helped when we needed it and knew what he was talking about. Actually wanted to help students learn the material and succeed.
Nick was my TA for the Anatomy and Physiology lab. He went above and beyond his necessary duties as a TA in order to help us succeed in the class. -
Brooke Shriner
Psychological and Brain Sciences
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Shriner is awesome! She was so helpful and always emailed back right away. Her discussion boards and papers were a lot of fun!
She's amazing! -
Brad Shuck
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Shuck has been an excellent professor and guide throughout this program. He goes the extra mile to ensure that everyone is tracking assignments, due dates, key points, etc. In graduate school, when most everyone has a full plate (work, school, kids, military commitments, etc.), this is a huge help. He furthermore goes the extra mile to make himself available, record extra videos, make frequent announcements, and do anything to set his students up for success. He expects a great deal from his students and challenges them to grow in their careers and education.
Dr. Shuck continues to go above and beyond and shares in the passion of learning. His course was engaging and classes were always full of energy. Dr. Shuck took an interest in everyone's HAT topics and was always encouraging and always made time for our questions within and outside the class. Dr. Shuck's passion for what he does exudes beyond the classroom. -

Richard Slawsky
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesI took Comm320--Newswriting--with Professor Slawsky. Thanks to Professor Slawsky, my interest in newswriting and news in general grew immensely throughout this course. Professor Slawsky creates a laid-back learning environment that makes learning enjoyable. He often relates what we are learning to the real world and shares current news stories. -
Lisa Smith
Kent School of Social WorkGrrrrrrrreat motivator -
Siobhan Smith
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Smith has easily been my favorite professor of the semester, and perhaps of my collegiate career thus far. She did a fantastic job of facilitating discussion that was not only fun but also informative, allowed students to express their interests at their desire, and provided for an overall excellent environment. It is of my opinion that the best professors should make attending class a desire rather than a roadblock--Siobhan did exactly that within a major that I was not even familiar with. -
Steve Smith
English
College of Arts and SciencesI have taken Professor Smith's class, both first semester and second semester for English 101 and 102. First day, he made sure to know each student's name and information about them, to make the class more personal and to connect to his students. He also is always available to help with assignments for his class or for other classes. He truly cares about each of his students, and I thoroughly enjoyed having him as my teacher. His class was challenging, and I learned so much in just one year. -
Kate Snyder
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Snyder has been an amazing professor. She is student-centered, while still focusing on her research. She has been a great mentor and has helped me and many others in our success. -
Steve Sohn
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Sohn is easily one of the best professors I have had. He spends so much time encouraging, challenging, and motivating his students--one of the few professors to learn everyone's name in a large class. He is willing to meet his students outside of class and do everything possible to help them succeed. I appreciate his humor, his care, and wish I could have him again. -
Christine Steineck
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesShe is an excellent professor. She goes above and beyond and is always in a good mood! She breaks down the content really well during her lectures.
Very knowledgeable and is able to explain difficult content in a way that is understandable. -
Barbara Stetson
Psychological and Brain Sciences
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Stetson was probably my favorite professor this semester. She has a genuine interest in what she teaches and wants everyone to walk away from her class with a deeper understanding of the material. She doesn't put up with anyone's nonsense, but if you're there to learn and are truly interested, she will help you in any way she can. -
Angela Storey
Anthropology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Storey helped me learn to better understand critical concepts like race and gender which I did not have a clear understanding before taking her class. I did not know that these two concepts are socially constructed. Most people also associate both the race and gender as biological, however, I learned in anthropology that it is not the case. -
Clare Sullivan
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesIt is obvious that Dr. Sullivan has a passion for both her subject matter and her students. She demanded a great deal of us across the course of the semester, but never failed to expertly guide and teach us. My Spanish abilities improved more in her class than in any of my other Spanish classes so far. She encouraged us, criticized us purposefully and shared a passion for literature with us everyday. She consistently went the extra mile to check in with all of us in order to keep up with how we were doing academically and personally. I would not hesitate to take another class from Dr. Sullivan again in the future and would certainly recommend her to anyone. -
Kristin Swartz
Criminal Justice
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Swartz is the reason I am now minoring in Criminal Justice and plan on making it my career to be involved in the field. In class, she always welcomes and encourages discussion which goes beyond the content that a PowerPoint could cover and provides real and intriguing insights into what it's like to be in the criminal justice system. She is highly relatable to students, and she is eager to help guide career paths. -
JoAnne Sweeny
Brandeis School of LawShe's great!
Professor Sweeny is an amazing professor who enables her students to successfully learn how to write in the legal profession. On top of being a wonderful professor, she is also an amazing person, and all of her students know that they can rely on her. She really dedicates her time and life to teaching the students and making them successful. She is very deserving of the award.
Professor Sweeny here at the law school by far exemplifies the spirit of Louisville. The amount of work and dedication she has provided as a whole to the students here and towards the overall mission of becoming great lawyers has shown through our searches for jobs in a very competitive field. I think, and I hope that this will not be the only nomination! If selected as a top 4, I would more than welcome a chance to talk about my favorite professor in more depth!
She is one of the most dedicated, intelligent, and skillful professors I've had!
I nominate JoAnne Sweeny because she is such an advocate for her students in the classroom and as they develop into professionals. She is brilliant, and her teaching allows students to develop comfort with the law, and legal writing, that is unparalleled. She also keeps a fun, creative life outside of school that she shares with her students, evidencing work-life balance and joy in helping others. She is fun, and brave, and tough in a way that is exciting and students are drawn to her. She is supportive of all student endeavors and playfully passionate. I am so excited to nominate her! Thank you!
Professor Sweeny really challenged me to be the best I could be. Her teaching methods are excellent, as she understands the students she is teaching well, and she can really get on our level. This allows her to understand what issues we are having and help us through it. She is not a "just deal with it" professor...she truly works hard to give us everything we need to succeed. She makes herself available for help, and I personally think if anyone does poorly in her class, it is only for lack of using the resources. Her classroom demeanor is great as well. While I found her assignments plentiful, they were useful in getting me where I needed to be, and I so much appreciate the time Professor Sweeny poured into me to help me be a better writer. She completely deserves awards of any kind!
Professor Sweeny constantly goes above and beyond for her students in class and for law students. She consistently helps students with papers, career advice, and with any other issue that a student may face. Her teaching style pushes her students to their very best and helps them create the best work possible. Professor Sweeny keeps her office open all hours of the day to assist any student with their writing and other assignments. The amount of time and energy she puts forward to help with moot court teams and journals is as extraordinary as the level of commitment she displays toward her students and the law school as a whole. For these reasons, it is my honor to nominate Professor Sweeny for the Faculty Favorites Award for the Spring of 2017.
She has made me a much better writer, critical and independent thinker, and has always pushed me to perform to my highest potential.
Prof. Sweeny is an incredible educator and role model. She is the kind of educator that makes a school exceptional. -
Brock Symons
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentI have had Brock as a professor for just about every semester in undergrad and grad school since coming to UofL. He is always on the ball with his teaching, and even though he has a dry personality, he is very interesting. He is consistently engaging with the students and does so with a great sense of humor. He is committed to making sure the student understands the material, despite how boring it may be. He has a passion for his profession and it shines through daily. He is always approachable and very understanding. I have attended three different colleges over the course of my schooling, and I can tell you he is one of the best professors that I have come across. It is rare to find a great instructor nowadays, but I am sure my classmates would agree. He deserves to be recognized for all he does. -

Jaime Thompson
Kent School of Social WorkJaime is a compassionate teacher. She provides students valuable opportunities for growth and creates a safe learning environment. I wish all instructors had her level of dedication.
Jaime is a tremendous educator, promoting not only critical thought but immense compassion to her students. She is assertive without being narrowly focused, kind and giving but with healthy boundaries. She embodies all the qualities I wish to exude, both professionally and personally. She is a beautiful balance of intellectual integrity with a vast, open mind.
Professor Thompson is the most kindest, most sweetest person at the University. She is incredibly caring and has the best interest of her students at heart. She is so full of joy and wonder, it was a pleasure taking her classes. I could only wish that half of the University's faculty could be as dedicated and driven as Professor Thompson. -

Joseph Turner
English
College of Arts and SciencesAs a junior faculty member to the Department of English, Joe is an asset especially to/for graduate students on the academic job search. In addition to sharing his recent experiences and knowledge of the job search on our professionalization committee, Joe also organizes weekly Fall meetings for doctoral students on the job market to practice interview responses and get feedback from each other as well as from Joe and occasionally other faculty. This. Is. Invaluable. Not just the practice itself, but also the feedback in a safe environment in which Joe encourages us to share what went well as well as what was less clear or compelling. While I do believe that grad school is a relatively safe space itself before jumping on the already-moving tenure track, there are still too few times/spaces where people get to practice speaking about their professional interests and trajectories without evaluation, judgment, or (sometimes worse) well-meaning "advice." Those meetings were one of those time-spaces. And Joe dutifully followed them up by meeting with all of us (a cohort of 7) individually at any time, which was especially bolstering and needed before a job interview or campus visit. And Joe does all of this because he is dedicated to assisting graduate students in our program using his own knowledge and experience--not because he received institutional credit for it (service or otherwise). His time invested in us is a gift that should be noted and appreciated. It helped me see my own strengths as a teacher and scholar, and hear what I was missing/forgetting to include that I already knew, had done, or cared about. And I am confident that Joe's help contributed to the more than 20 interviews and 10 campus visits that I was privileged to receive this year.
He is absolutely one of the best teachers I have had at UofL. He cares about you as a person and helps you learn in a way you understand.
Prof. Turner is an exceptional teacher. His enthusiasm and dedication to his students is evident in his work and class instruction. He goes above and beyond to ensure his students don't feel as if they are just taking another class in order to graduate. Turner's students are learning valuable critical thinking skills which they are able to carry on past college to their careers. Furthermore, Professor Turner teaches his class in a way that engages the students with the texts and makes them excited about the topics discussed in class. To put it simply, he makes learning fun. He is available when students want to talk outside of class for reasons such as when they don't understand something or would like to discuss a topic further, when they want a second opinion on their paper topic, or advice of any sort. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to take one of his courses before graduation. Reflecting back on the numerous years I've spent at UofL, I can easily say he is one of the best, if not THE best professor I have had.
Joe is the best prof that I've ever had. He's hilarious and cares about his students. He's incredibly helpful and really wants to see everyone do well. Love his class.
Dr. Turner is awesome!! My favorite professor by far. He's a pleasure in class. -

Mary Vaughn
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Vaughn was extremely encouraging throughout my spring semester. She constantly pushed me, along with other students in the class, to do our best every day. Even when we were unsure about a question or some part of the content, she offered comforting words and a smile and helped us through it. She was tough, but it showed that she cared about what she was teaching, and also cared about us. -
D. Gaye Waldie
School of NursingMs. Waldie takes pride in her job. She never fails to help any student inside or outside of classroom time. She has an open-door policy and always a positive, motivating personality. She is a stand-up woman who has influenced and touched my life.
Ms. Waldie is always helping her students succeed, past and current. She really went above and beyond, taking time out of her schedule to have a pharmacology review with us (for another class that was not her own). She is the most approachable faculty member, and she is never crass or demeaning. She is always prepared for her classes and always has interesting lectures. Her PowerPoints are easy to follow and her tests are relevant to the material she presents. She is professional in dress and attitude and speaks to her students as equals. Ms. Waldie is one of the best instructors that I have had, and I know many others in my cohort that feel the same. -
Justin Walker
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Walker is an incredible instructor, coach and mentor. He embodies what is best about the education profession--put students first, and work as hard as possible to help them learn, grow and succeed. Time after time, he met in person or over the phone on weekends, spring break, or evenings. When a student sends him a draft, he responds with comments. His reassuring personality encourages students to work through difficult problems and never be afraid to ask for feedback. His offers to help students extends so deeply that they bring journal notes and job applications when conferencing with him. One of the things that I most respect about Professor Walker is his outside-the-box approach to his classes. He created "Writing For Practice"--one of the most practical and important classes I've taken in law school. He shepherded us through the litigation process in a way that should be replicated in other classes. He taught us to write, edit and write again. He videoconferenced with high profile speakers from D.C. during class and played games that secretly helped the class learn and have fun simultaneously. We listened to Supreme Court oral arguments and learned about what really goes on behind the scenes at the Court. A professor would be hard pressed to have the experience and resume that Professor Walker already has at such a young age. He clerked at the Supreme Court and now takes student groups to Washington D.C. to tour every law student's mecca, as well as meet Justices, visit the White House, etc. When Justice Kagan came to UofL, she bragged on Professor Walker as he led a forum with her. Unquestionably, her recommendation carries more weight than mine! He helps with student groups and engages in public service, alongside Brandeis students. He offers his time to auction off annually to support student groups and unpaid public service jobs. Whether it's playing tennis, or having dinner with the highest bidders, it's all for a good cause. While I could continue writing about just how much Professor Walker deserves this award, I will wrap it up. As one of the most humble people I have ever met, he would likely be surprised, but honored, to receive such an award. But, I and my classmates felt obligated to nominate him in an effort to thank him for all that he has done and will continue to do for us. I hope that you will consider this application and get to know Professor Walker. The University of Louisville is beyond lucky to have him! -

School of Public Health and Information SciencesPete has changed my life in the short two years I've been at UofL and in the Public Health program. I met him my first day at UofL and even failed one of his classes my first semester. Through all the hardships I've faced in my life, I haven't been given a lot of second chances, but Pete gave me a second chance to fix my mistakes, and he's one of the most exceptional professors, maybe even the most exceptional professor UofL has to offer. His beliefs about the PHUN curriculum, the way he chooses his staff, and even the way he teaches his own classes. He's the best professor I've ever met, and it would be an injustice to allow him to work at UofL without recognizing him for the things he's done to improve this university. -
Ahmad Washington
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Washington has been my graduate assistant supervisor over the past year and has taught me an endless amount of information. He has challenged me to think outside of my horizon and continues to push me to think critically about the systems that impact each one of us. He continues to excel in various positions of his academic and clinical career and is the prime example of someone who devotes himself fully to every aspect of his life. I have also witnessed Dr. Washington empower school-aged students from West Louisville find their voices and process grief they experienced from losing parents, family, and/or friends. He continues to inspire me and make me a better student, researcher, and professional. -
Steven Watkins
Comparative Humanities
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Watkins is very knowledgeable in his area of expertise. The class I had him for was Introduction to Modern Christian Thought. I appreciated that he always tried to give us three or four perspectives on any topic we discussed in class. He also tied in discussion about a lot of recent events alongside the historical material we were discussing. His approach to this class really helped me think critically about various beliefs and decide for myself what seems reasonable and what doesn't. I would recommend this professor to every student at UofL; he is awesome!!! -

Stuart Williams
Mechanical Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Williams is not only a very effective instructor, but also very approachable for help with coursework. I have had him for several classes in both my undergraduate and graduate career, and each one has been memorable. The energy and dedication that Dr. Williams brings to the classroom, while having a young family, is encouraging to a young professional. Overall, Dr. Williams has been my favorite professor at UofL.
Dr. Williams is a truly excellent professor who puts an extraordinary amount of time and effort into his teaching. He cares deeply about his students and wants them to succeed. On multiple occasions, he has gone out of his way to help his students by meeting with them in his office, promptly answering emails (even late at night on the weekend!) and scheduling review sessions prior to exams. He truly goes the extra mile, and every student he teaches is lucky to have him as their instructor. -
Amy Wimsatt
School of NursingEnthusiastic about educating students, was always available when students needed her. She never let an email or text go unanswered. Always checking on her students if they didn't come to class to make sure they were safe. I graduated in December, and I miss her advice! But she still finds time if I ever need support or encouragement!
My professor has helped me out a lot this semester. She made me understand things when I was really confused and helped me put two and two together, when it came to the many different disorders in the Med-Surg class. -
Andrew Wright
Computer Information Systems
College of BusinessProf. Wright is my favorite professor because he genuinely cares about his students and equips them with tools to succeed. His teaching style and course formats are perfect for me and allowed me to embrace the material. I use C# at work and his C# courses have given me a solid understanding of programming best practices that improve my C# applications overall. -
Imelda Wright
School of NursingThis was my med-surg clinical instructor. She was a phenomenal instructor because she went above and beyond to not only ensure our clinical experiences were the best they could be, but also to show concern for us as students in regard to our health and happiness. I not only learned clinical skills from her, but also important personal lessons that I will carry with me throughout my nursing career that will help me to be the best nurse that I can be. She always exhibited passion for this career and encouraged us to also be the best that we can, as well as to hold ourselves to high standards wherever this career takes us. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this instructor for all of her efforts and relentless concern and encouragement. -
Dongfeng Wu
Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Wu has been a wonderful professor for me. She gave very stimulating lectures, and she always explains the materials extremely well. Dr. Wu is also always available to answers our questions.
Dr. Wu is my Ph.D. co-advisor. She always arranges the time for me whenever I ask for a question. She is very helpful when I'm doing my Ph.D. dissertation.
Dr. Dongfeng Wu is a great instructor and she is very knowledgeable. She brings enthusiasm and experience to every lecture that she gives. She is very approachable and understanding and always keeps an open line of communication with her students.
Dr. Wu's classes, though difficult, are ones I always know I will learn a lot from. She truly cares about both the subject matter and her students' understanding of it, which I greatly appreciate. -
Roman Yampolskiy
Computer Engineering and Computer Science
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringHis way of teaching was truly valuable, and he offered a lot of opportunities for students to learn materials in the most effective way.
Dr. Yampolskiy is helpful, his class designed very easy to understand.
I came in with the mind-set that I would not like CECS 130, but with his comedic responses and thorough explanations, I was able to get through it.
He is an amazing professor.
This semester I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Yampolskiy's course on Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Yampolskiy is highly knowledgeable of the material, great at explaining intricate and complex concepts in ways that are easy to digest, and he obviously cares about his students' well-being. But these are all qualities that should be expected of professors today. What sets Dr. Yampolskiy apart from the crowd of good professors is the manner in which his course is conducted. Dr. Yampolskiy proved time and time again that what he values most is the learning--that his students understand the concepts and put forth effort to show that they have made attempts to master the material. Because of this method of teaching, I was able to focus on the material rather than deadlines. I was able to stress about how my algorithms were functioning rather than worrying if the output was sufficient for a particular grade. This is how kids learn. This is why I am nominating Dr. Yampolskiy.
I would like to explain, I am very interested in this course, and I am working hard in this class.
He has not only conducted the class in a very smart and cooperative way, but also goes out of his way to make time for any student regardless of the large class size. Further, he displays great values and makes sure you are maximizing your own learning experience and taking the most possible from his class. Thanks Dr. 'Y' -
Pamela Yankeelov
Kent School of Social WorkDr. Yankeelov is truly one of a kind. As one of her online research students, she always went out of her way to stay connected. She was available by email and phone, she posted weekly videos to explain the week's content, she promptly graded assignments and provided constructive feedback, and most of all, she was both hilarious and encouraging. Dr. Yankeelov knows her stuff, and she knows how to teach it. I'm thankful to have had her as a professor for the past year.
Dr. Yankeelov made a very challenging class both enjoyable and manageable. She mentored her students into creating projects that will outlast the duration of the class in their impact in the community; while also ensuring her students grew in their skill sets and professional capacity. She was truly a pleasure to have as a professor! -
Charles Ziegler
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesOne of the most knowledgeable professors I've had who is committed to students' learning and academic progress. His course on American foreign policy exceeded my expectations through the helpful feedback, in class discussions, and readings. -
Jolene Zirnheld
General Dentistry and Oral Medicine
School of DentistryAbove and beyond in regards to teaching effectively and showing upmost compassion for her students.
Dr. Zirnheld (Dr. Z, as we call her) is a favorite instructor of our entire class (the first-year dental students). We all go to her whenever we are feeling down or when we want to blow steam. She is an incredibly relatable, caring, and down-to-earth woman. I have conversations with my peers all the time about how awesome Dr. Z is. She goes above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and to check on us when we are having rough weeks. She gives us tips on how to improve in all subjects and has even gone as far as to spend time with us after school, grabbing dinner and talking about dentistry. We love Dr. Z, and would love to see her recognized for her outstanding interpersonal skills and shared wisdoms._x000D_ -D1 Class
Dr. Z has helped my classmates many times, whether it was a class we are struggling with, or having a hard time adjusting. She has been a supportive figure at the dental school.
Dr. Z is my favorite ULSD faculty member. She goes above and beyond to make students feel welcome at the school, as well as make students feel comfortable while at school. Oftentimes, many faculty members come off intimidating which makes students feel as if they can't approach them with questions--that's not the case with Dr. Z. She doesn't talk down to students. She makes the environment fun, yet conducive to learning, and lastly, she is extremely encouraging. Dr. Jolene Zirnheld is more than deserving of this recognition!
