Professor Franco made chemistry fun. She explained things in a way that made it easy to understand and really wants her students to succeed. Great professor.
I believe Professor Franco was a very strong educator and was very knowledgeable of her topics. I believe the speed she taught at was perfect for students in a learning environment. She answered questions throughout lectures and really worked with the students to help them answer their questions. I believe her group strategy for working on problems was extremely helpful and beneficial to her and students. It helped us understand from one student to another and helped us get to know the problems that were recommended in future exams and quizzes.
She is a very sweet lady and knows chemistry like the back of her hand. She was also very understanding of a lot of things that had happened throughout the semester which was very sweet of her.
Dr. Franco is a great chemistry professor. Her lectures and activity on Blackboard makes the class very easy and the material much easier to comprehend.

Sapling and Blackboard are easy to use and navigate. The only issue I had was info. on Blackboard was not updated as much as it could have been. On the 8th, I thought the final was in 103 Ernst Hall, based on the previous info., but it was actually in the Strickler Building. Other than that, no major issues.
She did a very good job of making sure we had enough time to learn the material and was very responsive to emails.
She's very good with contacting her students and informing of any changes. It's easy to communicate any concerns with her.

This professor made a subject that I felt hopeless in feel very natural and obtainable. I had taken her class once before but had to withdraw from it because of family. Her way of explaining content and answering questions is better than any other chemistry professor I’ve encountered. Instead of saying "that's just how it works,” she’ll take the time to give you a real answer and make sure you understand what she’s saying before she moves on. Wonderful course, wonderful professor.
Dr. Franco has been very attentive and helpful in guiding me in the right direction, so I am able to get the proper resources to complete this class. When I first started, I was not doing well, and Dr. Franco took notice and contacted me via email. With all her help, I am not only passing Chem 101, but I will make a grade much better than I expected.

She encourages participation and is very helpful. Students have to put in work if they want a good grade, and she will make you earn the grade.

All faculty, staff, and graduate teaching assistants nominated will be invited to attend the Faculty Favorite Reception, to be held during the lunch program at the Celebration of Teaching and Learning at ShelbyHurst Campus. All student nominations are posted on the Faculty Favorite Award website.
Additionally, there will be a smaller pool named as top nominees, with no more than one nominee per academic unit, drawn from those who receive the most nominations. These "Top" Faculty Favorites will be recognized campus-wide through UofL Today and on a banner that is displayed on the front of Ekstrom Library in early February. Instructors are eligible to be featured as a "Top" Faculty Favorite every five years.

I would encourage anyone new to Econ to take her as a professor simply because of how she teaches. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

Dr. Kline was the epitome of an excellent educator during my time with her this semester. She constantly went above and beyond, provided opportunities for her students to succeed outside of the classroom, as well as within the classroom. She presented the material in a way that allowed it to be grasped easily and gave each of her students a functional understanding of the course material. She was willing to work with any and every student, including students not even taking her classes this semester. Dr. Kline proved time and time again that she deserves recognition for the time and effort she puts into her students.
Dr. Kline is very dedicated to her students. Her classes are incredibly organized, and her lessons are very clear and easy to follow. Economics is not easy for everyone, but Dr. Kline makes it enjoyable and understandable. For example, much of economics is very math oriented, but Dr. Kline is able to teach on the subject from various angles. She often draws graphs on the board which provide excellent visuals for her lectures. Furthermore, when covering new material, she often leads her students to come up with the right answers on their own rather than telling them outright. Her style of teaching is very accommodating to students of all learning styles.
Dr. Audrey Kline is a very good instructor. She is so patient and responds to my messages very quickly. I greatly improved myself under her help.
Seriously the best professor I've had at the university so far. She genuinely cares about every single one of her students, and her lectures and the way she teaches is absolutely phenomenal. Couldn't have asked for a better economics teacher to introduce me into the College of Business!
Professor Kline does a great job at relaying needed information to her students in a way that is easy to understand. She makes sure everyone understands subjects before moving on to the next one. Professor Kline really made my first semester at Louisville great.

I liked the structure of the course and how she taught the material. There is a lot to learn in just one semester, but if the class did have any questions that needed to be answered, Professor Kline would gladly stop to help. The class was challenging, but Professor Kline did her best to describe the material the best she could in class.

Jamie Abrams

This is a professor who actually cares about the students. In every conversation with her, it is easy to see that she genuinely cares about our success, our education, and our lives. If every other professor and administrator cared half as much as Professor Abrams did, the school may not have run into some of its recent issues.
Professor Abrams makes being a first-year law student an enjoyable experience. She makes the law fun to understand, yet pushes you and aids in students' learning content at the same time. She is extremely approachable and takes huge chunks of her time to ensure students know what she expects on the exam. She is the best professor I have ever had and is deserving of recognition.
Professor Abrams goes above and beyond her job duties--she prepares students for work in the legal profession in such a thoughtful and encouraging way.

Professor Abrams is one of the best professors I've ever had (through 2.5 years of law school and 4 years of undergrad at this institution). I had her in 2016-2017 for Torts I and Torts II and was fortunate to have her again this semester for Family Law. She teaches in a dynamic way that engages students and brings to the forefront the nuances of the law, the dramatic changes that have been taking place across the country and within Kentucky over the past few years. Her client-centered approach to the law allows us to simulate what it would be like to practice family law and to actually counsel clients about how the law affects them, how the law may be different from their preconceived notions, etc. Beyond the engaging (and dare I say sometimes fun) style in which she teaches the course, Professor Abrams is perhaps the most thoughtful professor I have ever had in how she interacts with her students. Talking with her is like talking with a long lost friend--she takes an interest in our lives (personally and professionally) and genuinely cares about our professional growth and our lives. If I had a question about a concept she taught and needed to stop by during office hours, not only would she answer my questions, but would also inquire about how I was doing and how my family was doing, etc. Beyond that, she made herself available for questions more than any professor I've ever had, including making herself available on Blackboard, if needed, over Thanksgiving break(!). While law school carries with it multitudes more stress than undergrad could ever dream of, it's because of professors like Professor Abrams that the law school experience feels more rewarding as we know our professional growth is that much greater having learned from her, but is also less stressful because we've had the pleasure of having a professor who truly cares.
I would like to nominate Prof. Jamie Abrams as a Faculty Favorite. Prof. Abrams has an amazing energy whenever she teaches. I have had her for two classes representing two different legal disciplines. She stresses concept mastery and application in her delivery and in every assignment given. She makes herself readily accessible to students for questions. Prof. Abrams is always positive and direct regarding her expectations for class participation and examination readiness; she sets a high bar for her students and creates an environment through her teaching methods that facilitates successful subject mastery, which will ultimately lead to bar passage and excellent client representation. Prof. Abrams is also a warm and compassionate person, and this is apparent when observing her student interactions and her obvious concern for her students and their personal growth within her class and beyond. I believe that UofL Law School students are extremely blessed to have a professor of Jamie Abrams’ high caliber teaching ability, intelligence, and passion. -

College of Education and Human DevelopmentIn my final semester of my master's program, I wanted to nominate Dr. Alagaraja for her outstanding commitment to her students' learning, growth, and overall success in her classes. I was in two of her classes this final semester, and I believe she is an outstanding professor in this program that places such a high emphasis on her students' growth through her leadership and commitment to excellence.
Dr. Alagaraja is passionate about research, and it shows in her teaching and mentoring. She makes class interesting and interactive. She is available to students outside of class and is very transparent with us as well.
Dr. Alagaraja is a highly intelligent, wonderful instructor who cares about the learning and success of her students. She takes time to ensure that students are understanding the concepts in her courses. She is always open to providing students with feedback and assistance in their projects. The environment she creates in her classrooms is both intellectually stimulating and very enjoyable. I am grateful that I have been able to spend time learning from such a smart, strong woman.
While taking ELFH-671, Performance Improvement, Dr. Alagaraja introduced a training module built with Articulate Storyline; an e-learning software used to develop interactive content. The module starts with the manager expressing employee performance concerns. Students were asked to identify and conduct the appropriate level of job analysis, process or organize to determine where the performance problem(s) reside. Students then selected an appropriate response A, B or C. Each option contained instructional explanation on whether the answer was correct or not. I particularly enjoyed the interactive training and asked if there were more to come. She explained that this was the first edition, but there are plans to build additional modules for future courses. I saw this as an opportunity for me to build e-learning development skills. I met with Dr. Alagaraja and asked if I could build a few modules as part of my Capstone course. She agreed and introduced me to Dr. Beth Case, Program Manager, in the Delphi Center. Dr. Case introduced me to the software and provided great suggestions for the project. I have successfully developed 11 e-learning modules. I cannot thank Dr. Alagaraja enough for offering her time/knowledge and for the valuable experience that I’ve gained this semester. I have worked in web design for 15 years. In the near future I will transition from Web Development to Human Resources (e-learning/training & development). The skills that I’ve gained through Dr. Alagaraja’s support are truly life changing and will provide an easier transition. Dr. Alagaraja is a great asset to the College of Education and the University of Louisville. Thanks so much.
Dr. Alagaraja is my advisor, and she has guided me throughout my MSHROD program since day one. I met with her 2.5 years ago, and she was just as passionate about her students and job as she is today. I remember going back and forth trying to decide if I should enroll in the program, and she answered any and every question I had right away. She followed up, made time for me to come onsite, and was very open and honest about the program. She has guided me throughout this program, helped me enroll in classes, and answered emails ASAP (some at 10-11pm and some at 4-5am). Dr. Alagaraja is a very busy person, but she seems to always make time for her students. I was lucky enough to have her as my capstone professor, and I could not have thought of a better professor to close out the program. Her positivity, support, and love for what she does, does not go unnoticed. I appreciate everything Dr. Alagaraja has done, and I believe she deserves this award more than anyone. She is kind, humble, smart, and above all, compassionate and supportive of her work and students.
Dr. A exemplifies the best of professionalism, as well as being a lovely and courteous person who inspires me. She is consistently positive and always has a kind word for every student in the class. She encourages each student's participation but does so without putting the student "on the spot" for giving an answer which the student would not be capable of giving. She always nudges the students to participate in some way -- even if it is only by typing a word or two in the online chat box. She's an all-around amazing teacher. She has been my teacher for two classes and if my degree program required other classes that she taught, I would seek her out for a third class--I like and respect her teaching style that much! Dr. A has been so kind to me that I not only consider her one of my favorite teachers, but I also think of her as a friend. I wholeheartedly support Dr. A for a faculty favorite award!
Dr. A has made a huge difference for me within the classroom this past semester by encouraging me to complete and submit a paper for a conference. This helped me learn the rigors of what it takes to submit a conference-worthy paper and what is necessary for a path I plan to pursue in the future. She has been incredibly supportive through this semester, often spending time sitting and discussing my future, research, and ways in which people deal with the stress of work and school. Dr. A has encouraged me a lot in helping to solidify my future goals and work towards pursuing them. -

Professor Khaldoun makes learning fun. While I was very hesitant to take Arabic, he proved to all of his students that Arabic is not hard at all and it can be very fun. He's always accessible outside of class and is only an email away to help students. I've taken two languages while in school, but none have been as fun as his Arabic class. While enjoying the class, I also learn quite a lot and the material really sticks with me.
Khaldoun is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. His energy and easy-going personality makes it so much fun to come to class every day. He makes learning Arabic so much fun and teaches us about the culture as well as the language. He is so funny and understanding. Everyone should have a professor like Khaldoun in their lives.
He is phenomenal.
In the short few weeks I have known Khaldoun, he has completely transformed my idea of what learning another language means. I was never excited to go to Spanish or French the way I am about Arabic. He takes one of the most difficult languages to learn and convinces us each day that we are smart, capable students for whom Arabic is not a challenge for. His dedication to us learning the content extends outside of the classroom. There is never a day that I don't laugh in that class because of his funny stories, friendship with our TA, or silly songs we sing. He takes the honest truth of his upbringing and inspires us to dream our biggest dreams but to always remember where we came from. I am forever changed for knowing Professor Almousily, even if only for a semester or two.

Professor Almousily has been one of the best professors I have had in my first semester of college. He made it extremely enjoyable learning a new language by incorporating fun activities and stories into. He was very funny and wasn’t afraid to make fun of himself to make us feel comfortable around him. I would recommend his class to anyone who wants to learn a fun language with an amazing professor.
I always thought, before signing up for this class, that learning a new language will be a heavy and boring task. But, after I signed up for Arabic language with Professor Almousily (AKA the Jordanian Muhammed Ali), I became more and more interested in the language and the culture. It introduced me to new norms that have been always a new world for me that I wanted to discover. The instructor was very helpful, inspiring, motivating, and cooperative. He makes things easier for us, and I always find an answer when needed. He has the best sense of humor too that makes the class fun. Although Arabic has a new set of alphabets, sounds, and structure, I found out that after this class, I became able to greet someone in Arabic and read short phrases. This is the best class ever, and I enjoyed it every day.
I love the way this class is set up and ran. I never thought I could learn another language, but because of Professor Almousily, I feel like I am learning Arabic.
Professor Almousily is not only a great professor, he's also an individual who truly cares for his students and their education. He's a great person, and I feel fortunate to have him as a professor. His class is a pleasure.
Professor Almousily has continued to be my favorite professor ever semester I've had him, because he is very interactive and really wants us to learn Arabic. He doesn't teach like other professors because he knows that learning a language doesn't mean just showing up for class and half understanding what's going on. He really cares about the language and the culture and knows how to teach both at once.
Regardless of the subject, this professor creates a fun environment to learn in. In my past experiences, doing this helps the brain link things together better, rather than a simple, memorize and recall form. He goes above and beyond for his students and never shows up to class without a smile. Students that come in under the weather are usually cheered up by the end of the 50 minutes. I can say this from personal experience. -

School of MusicDr. Amchin puts his students before himself and will go out of his way to work with you and find the best way to explain things based on how you learn. He always makes learning fun and always encourages his class to move and get out from behind those “awful desks.” He is one of the most understanding people I know and has respect for everyone he meets. He loves what he does and it shows through his love for his students and for music.
Dr. Amchin is a fantastic educator who seems to have his craft down pat. He teaches a class called “Intro to Orff Schulwerk: Music and Movement” which discusses an elemental framework of music education. He makes the class fun and allows us to really enjoy ourselves while still pushing us to think deeply and critically. He uses a hands-on approach to teaching, which is very conducive to the learning of the particular subject matter. The class is actually outside of my major, as I am studying music therapy, but Dr. Amchin still makes it clear that my learning is important to him and does everything he can to make sure I am successful. He is incredibly kind and helps all of his students know how valuable our education is. I have learned so much about Orff Schulwerk but also about life from Dr. Amchin. -

Professor Arend also set up a joke poem day for our communication class, and it was one of the funniest things I have ever sat through. Professor Arend is very kind and connects with his students on a personal level. He really is so awesome, and I hope he wins this award. -

Dr. Atwood is an extraordinary professor. She went above and beyond during our research class to make sure every single student was following along and that they received the help they needed to pass. She would take time out of her own schedule to have almost weekly office hours twice a week. These office hours were there for us to come and ask the millions of questions we had, and she was always happy to take the time to answer them. I would not have been able to make it through this class without her extra assistance. I never liked research, but after taking her class and having her as a professor, I now enjoy doing research. Dr. Atwood also made the learning environment fun and exciting. During presentations where she knew we would all be stressed and tired, she would bring us treats like candy, cookies, and even pizza! These little touches made us feel like she really cared about our learning, as well as our well-being as students. Thank you, Dr. Atwood, for an amazing two semesters!
Dr. Kathy Atwood is passionate and extremely knowledgeable about research and statistics. She also has the ability to explain what statistical data means to a roomful of students who do not plan on going into the field of research. Dr. Atwood was available and responsive to myself and my peers as we dug into our evidence-based practice projects. She met with us multiple times outside of class hours throughout two semesters to assist each of us. She also has a great sense of humor, stayed true to the course requirements, and supported us in our endeavor to complete our assignments. -

I was blessed to have Ms. Brown as my university supervisor during my practicum and student teaching. I remember being so nervous before the first lesson that I taught, but she encouraged me to relax and told me I would do just fine. Even after lessons that didn’t go so well, she always phrased her feedback in a positive way and helped me to understand why doing certain things differently next time might be better. Ms. Brown has such a passion for teaching and was never afraid to interact with the students in my classes. I appreciate all of the times she has shared her own experiences with me from different roles she has played in the education field. There was never a dull moment when I had her as a professor this spring semester! Her enthusiasm made me even more excited to be a teacher, even though I didn’t think it was possible before. As I got closer and closer to graduation and was trying to make some tough decisions about what the best path for me to take next would be, I knew she was the right person to help me work through the thoughts and feelings I was having. Thanks to her, I have a better sense of direction now and feel ready for the next stage in my life. Ms. Brown makes everyone feel comfortable and has always believed in my fellow classmates and me. Dr. Rhonda Buchanan is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She loves teaching and it shows. She is energetic and positive and knows how to ask questions in such a way as to bring out the knowledge that the students have, giving them confidence in their recognition. She shares her own personal books, props, videos, music, even food, to add to our experience of Hispanic cultures. She gives feedback to the whole class when we make similar mistakes and gives so much helpful personal feedback on our daily and test essays, which has not been done much in my other Spanish classes. Her tests are challenging. She has high standards and prepares each class and expects much of her students as well. Dr. Buchanan also adds sparkle to the class by infusing Spanish slang and aphorisms that we would not normally be able to get from the text. I looked forward to the class each day. _x000D__x000D_ Education students also would gain a lot by sitting in her classes for mentoring and inspiration.
She has made Spanish classes entertaining, and it is impossible to go through her classes without learning a lot about Hispanic culture. She brightens my day with her enthusiasm. I took a class with her that I didn't need just to have her as my professor again.
Dr. Buchanan is such a delight to have! She goes the extra mile in her lessons. On top of that, she is immensely intelligent and passionate about all things concerning Latin America.
Dr. Buchanan is one of the best educators I've ever had. She has a clear passion for the literature she teaches as well as for her students. She genuinely cares about her students as people and works to make them succeed as much as possible. I've already planned my schedule so that I can take a class with her again.

She set up timelines, provided all the links to various registration sites, etc. When I ran into an issue with the Bursar's Office for not withdrawing on time, and they wanted to charge me, she successfully worked on my behalf to have the charges removed. She did all of this for me, and she was not even my advisor. She is an amazing talent for the university, and I hope that everyone recognizes it as I do. -

She is a great facilitator of discussion, and she makes you feel like you have a seat at the table in her classroom. She clearly loves what she does and I admire her for it. She is an extremely intelligent researcher and a positive role model for all students. I could not think of a more deserving professor to win this award than Dr. Cashon. -

It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I nominate Dr. Chastain as my favorite educator for the Spring 2019 semester. I was fortunate enough to take Dr. Chastain's Physics 222 course this spring after taking his Physics 221 course last fall. Dr. Chastain did an amazing job of creating a positive and fun learning environment while effectively using the technology in the new Belknap Academic Building. It was obvious Dr. Chastain carefully thought out and meticulously planned each lecture and homework assignment to make every aspect of his class purposeful and intentional. Dr. Chastain also took the time to get to know his students, even though he had a large class size. While facilitating active participation in class, he was able to call on students by name. I was nervous about taking a college-level physics course but after the first few weeks of Dr. Chastain’s course, I gained confidence and found enjoyment in learning physics. I have recommended Dr. Chastain countless times to my peers who are planning on taking physics in the future in the hopes that they will reap the same benefits and enjoyment as I did. I can only hope to have another professor like Dr. Chastain; one who shows a true interest in students’ learning and involvement in the classroom and one who makes the class so enjoyable and intentional.
Dr. Chastain is one of the best professors I have ever had. He cares about his students' success. He structures class so that everyone is engaged and learns, and he never assigns homework that is not useful. Every bit of his design for class and outside work promotes learning and it makes it easy to learn.
I had Chastain for both Physics 221 and 222. He was absolutely amazing and definitely more helpful than any other professor I've had. I do not want a career in the sciences, pre-med, or any of those fields and still had to take this class.

School of NursingDr. Chlebowy is awesome! Let me tell you why. First and foremost, Dr. Chlebowy is an excellent professor! She explains course content clearly, encourages discussion throughout class sessions, and gives her students opportunities in class to apply what we have learned to real-life scenarios. Additionally, she sets aside time in every class to address any questions or concerns her students might have about upcoming assignments. Last, but not least, she encourages students to send her drafts of any assignment before it’s due, so that she can give feedback on it. Second, Dr. Chlebowy does a fantastic job as the Master’s Entry to Professional Nursing (MEPN) program coordinator! In the semesters where my cohort of MEPN students were not taking a course with her, she scheduled meetings a couple times a semester for us to discuss any questions or concerns we had about the program with her. In semesters where my cohort has had her as a professor, she addresses any program-related concerns at the beginning or end of class. This has been very helpful; my cohort has had multiple concerns about the way a clinical or class was going, and once we spoke to her about it, we learned that our expectations for that particular class or clinical didn’t match up with its intended purpose. Once we adjusted our expectations, we were much happier and a lot less stressed. Any time there has been an issue that she can’t do anything about during that semester, she makes sure to take note of it and tells us our feedback is important as she will use it to make sure the next MEPN cohort doesn’t have the same issues. -

She is always supportive and encouraging and takes a genuine interest in how I am doing. Dr. Creel has been integral to my success as a graduate student and has continuously renewed my interest in working in health policy. I cannot imagine a more deserving professor of this award than Dr. Creel.

Taking her class this semester was the best decision I could've made, and I will take what I've learned from her with me throughout my future.

Dr. Dubofsky has been an exceptional professor this semester. He makes class interesting by breaking up the monotony through things like showing current events, speaking about financial topics that are relevant to students now and in the future, and giving examples from his life that may apply to concepts we're learning. In addition, you can tell Dr. Dubofsky is passionate about teaching. For instance, he tries to accommodate all learners by learning about new techniques that may be beneficial in the classroom. You can tell he wants his students to succeed. Also, Dr. Dubofsky realizes that the financial concepts presented in the book may not apply to everyone and not be overwhelmingly interesting to everyone. So, I think he tries to adjust his teaching in that way as well to provide concise information. Lastly, Dr. Dubofsky has been accessible outside of class for additional help on homework and concepts that may have not been fully understood the first time. -

She teaches her class with enthusiasm, and I can tell that she truly cares about her students. Dr. Eason is kind, approachable, easy to understand, and available to answer questions whenever I need her. I also LOVED that she incorporated an "art project" into her CVA class; it was a very refreshing and new approach to teaching biological concepts. I also love how Dr. Eason teaches her classes without the "pre-med" scope added to it: animals and adaptations are discussed based on how they interact in nature, not how someone would see it in a doctor's office. From this approach, Dr. Eason reignited my passion about why I chose to get a degree in biology, and for that, I will be forever grateful.
Dr. Eason truly wishes to help her students by assisting them with questions and concerns and consulting with them about how to make class projects more enjoyable and meaningful. She caters to the needs of multiple students and different types of learners by incorporating various types of student projects, testing styles, and presentations into her Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy lectures. She gives lectures with great examples, stories, and pictures to make the material more interesting, memorable, and relatable. She also encourages students to meet with her about questions or problems. -

Also, I would like to mention that I had the great chance to attend one of his classes, “Medical Image Analysis.” He has a great ability to simplify the complex ideas and concepts for his students. In addition, he is a knowledgeable person in his field. Students can learn a lot from him. In summary, Dr. El-Baz is a good person to know and work with.

Dr. Ayman El-Baz has always been helpful and supportive. I have had several courses taught by him. I have learned so much about bioengineering, research, medical image analysis, etc., from him. To help me learn more about and gain experience in image processing, he welcomed me into his BioImaging Lab and provided me the opportunity to work on some of his projects. In addition to working on another of his projects for my Capstone project, Dr. El-Baz entrusted me with the privilege to co-author a textbook chapter related to this research. This not only gave me valuable experience, it strengthened my confidence in my abilities as a bioengineer. Dr. El-Baz doesn’t just care about teaching. He cares about people and has been supportive and offered helpful advice as I struggled with some personal issues as well. He works tirelessly to make the Bioengineering Department better. He always takes the time to help us, no matter how busy he is. I often drop into his office for help, and he always makes time to answer my questions or helps me with a problem. As I transition into my career, I know that whenever I have questions, need guidance, etc., Dr. El-Baz will be happy to help me. He genuinely wants to see his students develop and grow as competent, successful bioengineers. I would not be where I am today without his kindness, generosity, support, caring, and teaching. He also offers lecture video recordings that are extremely useful. Looking back, if not for his teaching style and very good lectures, I definitely couldn't have done as well as I did. -

He will spend hours helping UofL students, both students in his class and not in his class. He is always happy to answer any questions a student might have and is willing to spend so much of his time acting in service roles for the department.

I love that I never feel hesitant to ask him a question because he is so great about not making students feel stupid or silly, which facilitates my deeper understanding of whatever topic he is teaching.

Stephan Gohmann

Though challenging, Dr. Gohmann’s classes are rewarding and enjoyable, not to mention that the “final exam” is over a pizza lunch!
He encourages thoughtful discussion and critique of both the pieces he selects and traditional economic assumptions. Dr. Gohmann is a great advocate for reading and learning further.
Dr. Gohmann's Capitalism and Economic Freedom course was, by far, the most engaging and beneficial course I've taken at UofL. The class was well-guided by Dr. Gohmann, yet his discussion and reading-based course encouraged students to bring our own research and ideas to the table. Each class, I left more confident in my critical thinking and presentation skills. Having taken this course in my senior year, Dr. Gohmann offered great culmination of what I've learned in this department.
Dr. Gohmann truly cares about the success of his students; throughout the semester, he was approachable, inspiring, and considerate. I have gained a valuable perspective through his class and felt more intellectually challenged in ECON 375 than any other economics elective taken thus far. School of DentistryI have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Greenwell for several years. I first met her in my second year of dental school. I remember how interesting her lectures were and how passionate and excited she was to tell us about different syndromes and special needs patients that she has treated in over 30 years of pediatric dental experience. As a third and fourth year dental student, I had opportunities to interact with Dr. Greenwell several times during my clinical rotations. She was always very patient, provided helpful explanations and made me feel like she truly cared about my education, and wanted me to learn and understand what we were discussing. As a resident of Graduate Pediatric Dentistry, I can attest that Dr. Greenwell is still very committed to being an outstanding educator. She takes great pride in, not simply telling us, but showing us great qualities, characteristics and mannerisms of a good pediatric dentist. I will always remember one particular, medically compromised patient that needed to be seen in the operating room for dental treatment. Dr. Greenwell was out of town that week and was returning after midnight, but she volunteered to arrive to the hospital at 6:30 am the following day and get the patient treated. That patient did not show for the scheduled appointment, but Dr. Greenwell was so gracious and used this mishap as a teaching moment. I am certain that, if she had a chance to do it over again, she would have made the same decision--as going above and beyond for students, colleagues and patients is the norm for Dr. Greenwell. This award would be a wonderful way to recognize Dr. Greenwell, and the contributions she continues to make as a truly great educator and a wonderful pediatric dentist. Dr. Harman is by far the best teacher I have had here at Louisville. Every class she is energetic, funny, honest, and wants the best for her students. She teaches multiple classes for the HSS Department and is by far the best professor I have had. She wants her students to understand the material she is teaching. She facilitates her classroom in a way that not only promotes learning, but allows a fun and friendly environment to do so. She loves to answer questions and takes some students' sass, but she knows how to dish it back out in a fun, playful manner that still promotes learning. She is always available whether at her office or via email. She expects a lot out of her students, but she always equips them with all the tools they need to succeed. Even at her office hours, many colleagues, students, and coworkers pass through sharing stories, asking questions, and receiving advice or sharing a quick story with Dr. Harman. She is always cordial and prompt when talking to her. She will be completely honest with you but makes sure you understand every reason behind her judgment. She is understanding when it comes to students' lives and how things come up, not to mention her horrible use of technology, but hey, she still tries her best. It's just fun to sit in Dr. Harman's class seeing the smile put on her face when she realizes she can use the markers on the smartboard to draw on the projector, or when she uses a link correctly to open a fasciotomy. Dr. Harman truly is a faculty favorite among not only her students, but all students of the HSS Department and across the University. She seeks out opportunities for her students through working downtown at the HSC campus, getting an internship, or making a few bucks helping out driving golf carts at Derby. Everything Dr. Harman does, she does it with a smile, compassion, and looks for the best in every little thing. She truly is a wonderful teacher, woman, and asset to our University. For all the things she has done, is currently doing, and will do for her community, the University of Louisville, and most importantly, her students, this is why I have nominated Dr. Kathryn Harman for the honor of Faculty Favorite.
Dr. Harman has made a positive impact on my semester. I have her for both biomechanics and anatomy and physiology lab. She goes above and beyond to give students lecture notes that include charts and pictures. Her teaching style greatly impacted my future career. She helps students by giving tips to help remember information, which none of my science teachers have done. She truly cares about every student. I cannot say enough about how wonderful of a teacher Dr. Harman has been. She is an impeccable teacher. She wants every student to succeed and will make herself available to do so. She is well invested in her students and has such great abilities to refine a student from being a novice in research to becoming an excellent one. By taking her year-long qualitative class, she has helped me and my classmates to be better researchers. Also, she helped us get a publication and attend conferences. She is awesome! Dr. Harris teaches us things that will help us, not only in her class, but in our future careers, which is the desire of every student. I am very thankful to have met her.
After having Dr. Harris for Advanced Qualitative Methods, I feel Dr. Harris is dedicated, caring, fair, and passionate in serving the most vulnerable populations through her social work research. Her excitement for qualitative research comes through every time you have class with her. When I would turn in assignments, (including qualitative interviews with 80-90 pages of data), each assignment would come back with detailed feedback starting on page 1, continuing page by page until the last page. I know that she is currently serving on almost 20 dissertation committees. I am not really sure when she sleeps. I would get emails back from her answering a question I had at 10, 11 pm at night, during the week and on weekends. She helped me grow, both as a researcher and as a person, in many ways. I feel so fortunate that I had her as a professor. This fall, when I start on my dissertation, I will be able to apply what I learned from her daily. -

Matt has been amazing this semester! He truly cares about us as students and as future professionals in the marriage family therapy field. He not only helps us learn in any way he can by his lecture material and answering questions, but goes above and beyond to share personal experience and give us tips from his own practice in the field. He is so compassionate and easygoing.
Matt has encouraged and pushed me every step of the way. At times, feeling overwhelmed after being out of school for many years, having a family, and having some intense anxiety, he listened and offered help and advice. I personally wish we had more professors in the CFT program that had also completed our program. No other professor has the experience that we are going though with school.
He's been amazing teaching and supporting his students this fall 2018 semester. He gave advice, made himself available to his students, answered all questions clearly, and clearly explained all materials in lecture. He gave life advice, professional development advice, and student learning advice. I am grateful to have had Matt as a professor. He is truly a role model!
By using examples from his practice and referring to real-world practice, he made the content relevant. By using role-plays and testing understanding, he made the information more easily assimilated.

Professor Harris does an amazing job with teaching students the importance of micro practice in social work. This semester he was able to take me from having a very limited understanding of intervention techniques and strategies to feeling very confident in order to put them to use. He gave great feedback on all role-play assignments that were used as learning tools to help each of us gain a more in-depth understanding of how we can help our clients. This course, with the help of Professor Harris, has shed much light on micro practice and has given me the ability to help clients at my practicum site. Professor Harris is always quick to respond to student questions or concerns. He is very friendly and approachable. I'm very thankful that I've had the wonderful opportunity to get to know him, and I hope that future students in the program do as well. I am positive now that I will pursue a career as a therapist and to help every client as I have been taught by Professor Harris.

As a transfer student into the Speed School this semester, I was a bit intimidated by Engineering Calculus, and the major incorporation of technology into the classroom. Dr. Hieb was always willing to help, and he made great overview videos for each lesson. I couldn't have asked for a better semester. Dr. Hieb is a boss, and I hope to have him again during my journey at Speed School.
Who would had thought that Calc 3 could be fun. Not me that's for sure! Dr. Hieb teaches class like no other Calc professor I've had at Speed school. He goes way beyond the idea of group work and structures his class entirely around it. At first I was worried, but the instructive videos he created to go over and teach lessons helped put my mind at ease. He's always energetic and ready to go in the morning! He is more than willing to spend as much time as needed to go over material that is confusing to any student. Jeff Hieb is by far one of if not the best professors I've had at UofL, and I am already planning on taking another class with him next spring! He loves what he does and it shows!!! -

Dr. Hoyt has a very hands-on teaching style that was critical to my learning process during this semester. In our Digital Signal Processing course, Dr. Inanc consistently provided us with a balanced exposure to both theory and practical Matlab examples which help us explore and apply what we learned in class.

Dr. Kopechek has been the best professor that I have had so far in the Bioengineering Department. He creates an inclusive class environment that allows for an open and effective academic strive for the students. He made himself available for multiple hours during the week for students to visit during his office hours. I remember for a group project we had in the class, he sat with all of our group members for over an hour to make sure we fully understood our mistakes and how to correct them. The classroom environment was also very fun and creative in that it didn't seem like we were doing busy work and just needing to get a grade. He made assignments and tasks very much enjoyable, as well as making them applicable to a real-world setting. Dr. Kopechek is more than deserving of this nomination, and I am confident that any of his previous students would more than agree with me. Dr. Kopechek is an absolutely fantastic professor and mentor. You can clearly tell that he enjoys teaching biomedical acoustics. He is incredibly enthusiastic about the research area. Outside of class, his office is always occupied with students, further trying to gain insight in the uses of ultrasound for diagnostics and therapeutics. Dr. Kopechek has focused on coupling physics and programming to enhance his students’ knowledge.
Dr. Kopechek is amazing! His classes are always fun, and he truly cares that we are learning. He goes above and beyond to make sure we have the time and resources we need to succeed, whether it's extending a deadline when the whole class is struggling, or allowing us to call him on his cell phone with questions about a project while he's on his way back from the airport. She is the only teacher I know who gives a lecture when only two students shows up for class because she values their time and appreciates them for coming when nobody else did and wants to make sure they know the material that is required. She always tells funny and relatable stories in class and somehow finds a way to tie them back into the themes we are learning in class. She cares about her students and always starts the class asking how students are doing, and if someone leaves unexpectedly, she makes sure to ask if they are okay. Dr. Leonard makes an effort to try and connect with her class as much as possible. She loves to hear what students have to say and allows for more discussion-based conversations than straight lecture. She is always open for questions, but most of the time she asks even more stimulating questions to drive home the reinforcement of the material. She is a wonderful professor who never disappoints to update her class on her adorable grandkids and the research she does in Ireland. She comes hustling to class every week looking forward to develop the young minds of our generation, and she does so in an effortless manner. Professor Levinson is not just my favorite professor, Professor Levinson has become my mentor. I believe Levinson is deserving of this prestigious award because of her life-long commitment and achievements in labor and employment law research and cooperative law research at UofL and across the United States. I also believe she is deserving of this award because of her many contributions to advancing the role of women in the law by active mentorship, by serving as a role model, and by her strong leadership at UofL’s Brandeis School of Law. Professor Levinson is the type of professor who motivates you to succeed in and out of the classroom. Each course that she teaches focuses on the purpose of either Bar Prep, experiential experience, or exposure to the particular law. Professor Levinson has been a significant impact in my legal education, and I know that she would do anything she could to help me academically. Additionally, Professor has already shown that she would make the personal recommendations to a potential employer or for a potential scholarship. I cannot thank Professor Levinson enough for the amount help she has provided me. She deserves this award and so much more. There are numerous personal reasons why Professor Levinson deserves this award, but I will only mention three. First, Professor Levinson has submitted several personal recommendations either by letter or phone on my behalf. These recommendations were for summer employment, networking opportunities, and scholarship funding. In fact, every recommendation that Levinson sent has proven effective. Dr. Maddy has brought a knowledge and curriculum that is above the standard to our school. He is teaching a subset of modern dentistry that is only being taught in a handful of dental schools nationwide. His level of expertise and motivation to educate is incomparable to most faculty. He's using techniques in lecture, lab, and videos outside of classroom that develop our skills and knowledge at a higher level than all other courses/schools.
Dr. Maddy has been a wonderful professor! He is always prepared, and it shows that he really cares about making sure we know the material. If you were casting the "intimidating law professor" in a movie, Prof. Marcosson would be the perfect fit. Marcosson is the kind of professor with a reputation that precedes him. Before ever stepping foot in his classroom, older students will opine about how he is intimidating and his high expectations. All of this may very well be true of Prof. Marcosson but that is only because of how much he loves his job. This passion for teaching is present every day, and it pushes his students to be better. Prof. Marcosson is respectful, open, kind, and appreciative of his students, but he is also not very easily impressed. Often I hear my fellow students justifying reading for his class at the expense of another because they "don't want to let Prof. Marcosson down." Marcosson is one-in-a-million, and the University of Louisville is lucky to have him. -

Doc. Medina is a terrific educator. The reason is that it is the first time in my international student life that some educator from another country teaches me. My bachelor’s, I did make in the Russian language, and professionally. I am learning to write the Spanish language in the USA. My first teacher at the University of Louisville was Dr. Wagner, and I will never forget when she taught me at the UofL classroom. But in my opinion, all teachers: Dr. Hutcheson, Dr. Wagner, Dr. Edison, Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Nuessel, all teachers are a gorgeous team, but Professor Manuel Medina for me is my favorite.
I think we learned a lot with Dr. Medina. I appreciate all his help.
Dr. Medina is one of the best professors I've ever had. He works to ensure that all of us understand the content and goes above and beyond to help us. Even outside of his office hours, he's always willing to meet with us and help. He even volunteered to come to a study session for the exam in case we had any other questions. On top of his course load, he mentored half of us who are graduating the MA program with our final papers. I've never been challenged academically the way I have in his classes, which has helped immensely with my intellectual growth. If I weren't graduating, I would love to take more courses with him. -

School of DentistryNot only does Dr. Mercke teach the material well, she makes herself available at all times to help with anything we may need. She has moved around the schedule at the class’s request and given us extra time when we were going over particular subjects that were harder to study. She is the biggest "cheerleader" of the dental hygiene class, making sure we know that we are important and not any less than the DMD students. She is also motivational to me on the personal level that she made it through school while raising a family, showing me that I can accomplish that too! Dr. Mercke is firm, expects a lot from us, and yet is completely accommodating and helpful in a way that makes us know.

She makes information extremely accessible, and I looked forward to class every day. I genuinely would have been bothered if I had to miss any day of her class. He is super dedicated. Always works for what is best for students. Has practically lifted students who were falling behind in the course by giving them more attention. He made a difficult subject much easier--disciplined and talented. Meet him in the hallway and ask him any question, and he won't hesitate to solve it there. Sometime he gives a glimpse of his research in the class, which helps students to understand what's going on in real life. He has helped students in their personal problems too. I won't be shy in saying that he is a rising star! -

As my capstone professor for our class of just four students, she took the time to really get to know each of us and allowed us to share our experiences from student teaching. She brought in speakers from different areas of the teaching field, had a panel of first-year teachers, and showed us lots of activities and ways to include technology in the math classroom. This spring semester, Dr. Peters agreed to work with me on an independent study about statistics. When we met to discuss the work I had been doing, she always did a great job explaining the concepts that I didn’t quite understand and gave me suggestions for ways that I could incorporate statistics into my future teaching. I gained a lot from this study and feel more confident going forward as a math teacher now because of Dr. Peters’ help. I also appreciate the encouragement she has given me along the way. She has always believed in my peers and me and offered to be a resource or fill out recommendations which is extremely helpful. I can’t thank her enough! -

Dr. Rai also provides great opportunity for students to have hands-on experience to work with other departments. Besides that, Dr. Rai is also a friend of everyone. He can be approached very easily. I always had great communication with him. We talk about everything, from sports to movie, from academic to culture. Overall, I believe that Dr. Rai is a great professor. -

Professor Reader has been one of my favorite professors at UofL. She has a large knowledge of the information she teaches and explains it in a way that makes it easier to learn. Her class is very hands on which enhances the learning even more. The labs let me experience what I would be doing one day as a strength and conditioning coach. Professor Reader ignited a passion in me for strength and conditioning that I never knew I had until I took her class.
She is an amazing teacher.

Professor Reader is an incredible teacher. She is honestly one of the smartest people I have ever met. I am a senior, and she is my favorite teacher that I have had all throughout my four years here. I don't think there is anyone more deserving of this than her. -

J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Thomas Roussel, or drT as students call him, is a great professor. I have taken 5 courses with drT, and he was also my mentor for my master’s non-thesis project. For a long time I have wanted to learn about and understand circuits, electricity, etc. This is an area in which I have struggled a lot. When I was enrolled in his Circuits course, drT stayed after class to help me at least once a week, sometimes all three days. drT has always been patient despite my difficulty in grasping and applying the concepts and principles in his class and in his lab course. He explained and demonstrated things as many times as I needed and in different ways until I understood. drT’s patience must be limitless. drT taught both of the bioinstrumentation lab courses that I took. I learned more about circuits and devices because he was approachable and patient. This is an area in which he is passionate, and he was always happy to not only help with course projects, but also took these opportunities to teach us even more. He also purchased printed circuit boards and components to give us the opportunity to design and populate PCBs for a fun project. I was enrolled in drT’s LabVIEW course this semester, and I learned so much about LabVIEW that I am going to be able to take the Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer exam. Being qualified to obtain this certification was one of his goals for our class. He covered concepts and program capabilities that went beyond the content of the textbook. What he taught me has given me valuable skills that will benefit me throughout my career. The certification will be helpful in acquiring an entry level position within my field. I am glad that I took this course with drT. This past summer, I approached drT and asked if he would be willing to mentor me and if he had a project related to circuits that would help me get hands-on experience. drT found a great master’s project through which I gained skills in more areas (e.g., data acquisition). I am very grateful to him for the invaluable experience in product development. Because drT is patient and approachable, I have learned more in these courses. While most questions take just a few minutes, it also sometimes takes an hour or two to help with an assignment (e.g., fixing and setting up my LabVIEW project, understanding an electrical circuit function and operation, etc.). drT’s commitment to students is indefatigable. He comes in early when we need help, and he is often helping students (including me) until 7:00 and 8:00 in the evenings. He has always been supportive, helpful, patient, and kind. It is clear that he genuinely cares about students and that he enjoys teaching. drT has made a positive impact on my education and my future career. I am very lucky to have had him as a professor and a mentor. Thank you, drT!

Dr. Segall brought a breath of fresh air to the music therapy program. She has inspired me with her passion for music therapy and her dedication to making her students the best people they can possibly be. She always has a smile on her face and a kind word for anyone, and she challenges her students to think deeper about our studies in order to make more connections.
Dr. Segall is at UofL for her first semester. She took this opportunity and ran with it. I have never met a more energetic, kind person who has such a love for what they are doing. Dr. Segall pushes me and all my classmates to be our best. She is so approachable and helpful. I always feel like I can talk to her about absolutely anything. Her kind and passionate ways are rubbing off on the whole department of music therapy, and we are beyond lucky to have her join us this year.
Dr. Segall is an incredible teacher who comes into class every day excited to see us and to help us learn. She is brand new to UofL this year, but she has already made such a massive impact on my learning. She genuinely cares about each student and wants all of us to be successful. She begins each class asking for “good news” from the group, and then she teaches with vibrancy, digestible language, and compassion. She helps us to make valuable connections between concepts, and she always tells us that “everything relates to everything,” which I have begun to notice everywhere in my life! I look forward to going to her classes each week, and I am excited to take her classes throughout the rest of my college career.
This is Dr. Segall’s first semester at UofL in the Music Therapy Department. She has made a personal connection with each student from the beginning while remaining professional in the classroom. She goes above and beyond to make sure each student is on the right track and understands the content and is not limited to one teaching style, as she wants all of her students to succeed. The relationships she has built ensures that we are all comfortable and no questions are ever “dumb.” She is truly a role model and inspiration. Michael Sekula is an excellent professor because he deeply cares about the education of each one of the students in his classes. He takes time out of class to help students and tries to tailor course structures to best meet the learning styles and needs of his students.
Hearing the name Biostatistics, I was intimidated. I didn't know what to expect with the course. Professor Sekula made worry go away. From his teaching to his open door policy, he made sure that we as students fully understood each topic that was covered. He has also been extremely understanding. My grandfather passed away, and I was not able to attend class one morning. After emailing him, he made sure to make himself available to go over the material that I missed. Even in class, if there is something I don't understand when doing problems, he always makes sure to walk me through a problem step by step and never rushes helping a student. He is very willing to help students and that is what I liked about having him this semester. I have never met a teacher that has made me enjoy learning and coming to class as much as he has. Even as I've talked to other students, there have been no complaints, because he has been an amazing teacher in every aspect. I would love to nominate him as "Faculty Favorite" because of his unwavering commitment to his students. Without him, I'm not sure where we would be as students and as people. I think I can speak for the entire class and say that we truly appreciate the time and effort he has put into us, and we will definitely miss him when he graduates. She has been there with open arms and an open door, whenever I had a question regarding class, personal life, or wanting to have a casual conversation. Dr. Shreffler never turns me away and is accepting of all comments and questions I ever had.

As a sport administration minor, I haven't had the opportunity to work with very many SPAD professors. However, Professor Shreffler has been my favorite professor thus far in the SPAD program and has been one of my favorite professors throughout my entire college career. She is extremely knowledgeable about sport and offers real-world experience to connect with the students. She is a professor who truly sets her students up for success.

She has been a helping hand with my Sports Analytics research project and has helped me understand the steps I need to succeed, not only in her class, but within my future career in sports administration. She puts herself out there for students who need her and enjoys interacting and getting to know her students on a personal and professional level. She is a wonderful faculty member and a pure light in the Sports Administration Program. -

Her lessons have been choreographed in a genuinely welcoming and helpful manner. She gives wonderful feedback to let her students know where they might be struggling and is honest and sincere in her approach. I have been deeply influenced by Dr. Soliman as an instructor. His attitude towards students is excellent. His major aim is to make the student fully understand the materials and be capable of starting their own research. His door is always open for any type of question, either in the materials or even in any research problem that students may face. Soliman is always willing to give, share, and appreciate, and this has made him one of the most "loved" persons within the department and students as well. Dr. Soliman’s attitude is that everyone, pulling together, can make the University of Louisville a better place to work, a better place for research, and a better place for students to get a true education. He also has a very effective way of educating, and I fully recommend him for the faculty award.

Dr. Soucy has always taken the time to help me, even when I drop by her office outside her scheduled office hours. The subject of physiology is vast, and I appreciate that she selected critical, interrelated organs and organ functions (e.g., kidneys, heart, and lungs) to cover in this course so that we have a foundation upon which to build and learn more throughout our careers. Including presentations and reports on topics that interest us was helpful in relating what we’d learned to specific diseases and conditions as well as giving us an opportunity to gain more experience in technical writing. I value her instruction and feedback in these areas, as well. I have learned a lot from Dr. Soucy. She has even taken the time to talk to me about my course choices, resume, and career path. I very much appreciate her kindness and her help, and that she cares about me and helping me begin a successful career. Thank you, Dr. Soucy!

She is an impeccable person too. She's so personable, easy to talk to, and a true ally. Dr. Storey is so compassionate and will always have had a lasting impact on my life and career. I don't know what kind of student or leader I would have been without her influence.

Dr. Taylor is an exceptional professor. She went above and beyond to ensure that her students are successful academically, professionally and personally. Dr. Taylor has provided me opportunities that I never imagined would be available to me. Most importantly, she pushes her students to their full potential.
Dr. Taylor has been absolutely essential in my graduate career in Epidemiology. This semester was her first semester teaching Advanced Epi Methods, which is one of our most advanced courses. Upon completion of this course, I can definitively say that I have learned more from Dr. Taylor’s class than I have in any other class. After a couple days of class, and hearing how much we had already learned, three students who had already taken the class (by a different instructor) decided to sit in on the class. They too have expressed how beneficial the class has been and how much Dr. Taylor has helped them further understand some difficult concepts. Dr. Taylor makes learning advanced methods as simple as possible, without sacrificing important background and theory. She checks in with us regularly throughout the course to make sure we are grasping each concept, and she never fails to fully explain any question someone has, no matter how much class time it may take. It has been the general consensus among those who took her class that it has been the most beneficial class. Many of the students in the department speak highly of Dr. Taylor, and we always express how thankful we are that she is part of our learning experience. No one is more deserving of this award than Kira Taylor; the entire student population of Epidemiology and Population Health would no doubt agree. -

College of Arts and SciencesDr. Tillquist is so great. He has made every effort possible to make a broad, challenging course, Biological Anthropology, easy to access and digest. I have enjoyed being in class every day, and even look forward to it. He has a great sense of humor and keeps on track, but what I think makes him stand out so much is how much it’s obvious that he cares about the students. He makes a conscious effort to involve everyone in the classroom (to the extent that they will allow it) and encourages difficult questions, then has us come up with answers. Discussions are frequent in that regard, and have helped to both normalize the scientific process for many students in the class, and also bring relevance to the topic at hand, allowing for application of the material we learn through critical thinking. He also goes out of his way to make sure that the students understand: just a few weeks ago he spent multiple hours creating an entire online exercise on Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium, simply because a few students had expressed their trouble with the concept. He understands students’ needs and concerns and adapts to them as needed. I am legitimately disappointed that he’ll be going on sabbatical. He’s been so influential as an educator to me that I’ve actually started to consider majoring in anthropology--he just brings a certain energy and excitement that make you ready to learn. Needless to say, it’s been the best class I’ve taken. I respect him as a scientist, professor, and person, as he shows to not only be razor sharp, but conscious of how the things he says might affect others or their feelings. I hope I’ll be able to take another class with him in the future. -

Every time we have class, she makes it fun for us to be there. She is very knowledgeable about the Spanish language and allows us to grow through many speaking activities. Not only is she an amazing professor, but she walks in every day with a smile and really cares about her students. One of my favorite professors here by far. -

Not only is she always available if you have questions about classwork, she also is always willing to help with things outside of the classroom. As the first cohort of Global Health students in the MPH program at UofL, Dr. Wallis has helped all of us secure highly valuable internships through her connections. We went to Washington, D.C., Nigeria, Croatia, and California. Each internship specifically designed for the individual student's interest. She also is helping with making connections in the working world and education world for us post-graduation. Dr. Wallis is an example of a teacher who loves what she does and truly cares for the outcome of her students. She goes above and beyond to push her students to be their best while supporting them the entire time. -

Monica taught an undergraduate class for the first time in 12 years this year and did an amazing job. In health equity, we went over some fairly controversial topics, and Monica made it such a profound experience. I hope she continues to teach undergrad because I would definitely like to take a class with her again. -

Jeneen Wiche

College of Arts and SciencesWhile enrolled in Professor Wiche's American Indian Women course, I gained knowledge far beyond surface level. Professor Wiche put forth effort through the entirety of the semester toward making sure we left the class more educated and aware than when we arrived and more capable of sharing our knowledge and confident in our attempts to make the world a better place. Aside for content, Professor Wiche would arrive early to the classroom and check up on each one of us. This ranged from a simple, "Good afternoon, how has your day been?" to "How is everything going with that class you were struggling with?" or a genuine desire to make sure we, as students, were able to perform to the best of our abilities and were doing well in our lives in general. This was extremely important for me and many others in the course. We are at a very crucial point in our lives, and while it is such a privilege to be here, it is also a very stressful and taxing experience. Professor Wiche knew this and truly cared for us. I believe beyond being a remarkable professor, the sincerity in which Professor Wiche cares for her students is something that is extremely admirable and helpful. -
Christine Wieseler
Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Wieseler should win this because she was devoted to teach us information that is valuable beyond the classroom. We did not simply learn information to pass a test, but she gave us valuable knowledge to use in the real world. A simple skill that somehow many professors lack. She cared about our class and was very dedicated to getting the most positive outcome for all of us.
Dr. Wieseler is by far one of the best professors I've had so far.
She is always easy to get ahold of and has taught me so much. This was the first philosophy course I had ever taken, and I will probably take another because of her.
She was extraordinary. You can see the passion she has not only for her subject but also for the students that she is teaching. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Wieseler; she is a treasure to our University.
Professor Wieseler was extremely helpful this semester. I met with her outside of class after an exam I was sure I failed, but she reassured me that although I didn’t do great, I didn’t fail. She encouraged me to stay in the class after thinking about dropping it and assured me I would be fine if I participated more in class and did much better on the next exam. I took her advice and passed with an A on the second exam and pulled out a B+ overall in the class.
Professor Wieseler's class had a wonderful impact on me. I learned so much material in the field of ethics that I would not have known about had I not taken this class. My philosophical views have grown through this course and the guidance of Professor Wieseler. Additionally, I always felt more than prepared for exams, and it showed! I got consistent As in this class and although I did study, I know that Dr. Wieseler's teaching style contributed greatly to this accomplishment.
Honestly, my favorite class so far in my college experience. She's incredibly intelligent and an amazing teacher. Would take her class a million times over. -

Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student SuccessThe reason that I am nominating Chelsea is that of her outstanding work ethic and ability to make class fun has stood out from all of my other professors. I know the orientation class isn't like a typical class, but she was always smiling and saying hello to every student. I had a hard time when I worked at UPS, and she could see that. She pulled me into her office to review an assignment and immediately asked me about how I was doing mentally since college had started. We didn't even work on the assignment because she wanted to make sure that I was okay. Coming from a family impacted by suicide, I think that all instructors should watch out for their students in the way Chelsea did. I am strong and can handle myself, but many students cannot handle the stress that college brings to the table. I just wanted to commend Chelsea on her bright smile and ability to make my first semester 100 times better. Thank you for your time. -

Imelda Wright
School of NursingImelda Wright was a warm and welcoming face to the upper division of nursing who often soothed nerves and gave re-assurance in a hectic and stressful time. Her teaching style embodied that of nursing itself, difficult and factual health science content met with a great amount of compassion. She provided a safe learning environment that enabled us to apply the content to relevant life experience. Med-surg or management of care course is a large amount of content all supported and driven by evidence-based knowledge that she conveyed as if it were easy. Her teaching materials were incredibly organized then taught with precision and clarity. I have learned a great deal from the course material, yet a great amount was learned from Ms. Wright how to be an excellent nurse. I was lucky to have her as a professor this semester. -

All materials (lecture notes, codes, and videos) are organized and easy to navigate. He is very articulate and able to explain subject matter clearly and in different ways so that I may understand. Because of him, I have been able to grasp content that I don't think I would have otherwise without his teaching. Thank you, Dr. Zheng.
Dr. Zheng is a very nice and friendly professor. He always makes sure everyone understands the material. Besides that, he's available all the time when you have questions. He will help you even if it is something that does not relate to the class. Dr. Zheng's teaching skill is excellent. Not only can he explain everything very well, but also he provides very helpful notes and homework to make sure everyone is on the right track. Outside of the class, Dr. Zheng is very approachable. He always chats with students pretty much on every topic. Overall, I believe Dr. Zheng is great.
