About the Award

All faculty, staff, and graduate teaching assistants nominated will be invited to attend the Faculty Favorite Reception, to be held during the lunch program at the Celebration of Teaching and Learning at ShelbyHurst Campus. All student nominations are posted on the Faculty Favorite Award website.

Additionally, there will be a smaller pool named as top nominees, with no more than one nominee per academic unit, drawn from those who receive the most nominations. These "Top" Faculty Favorites will be recognized campus-wide through UofL Today and on a banner that is displayed on the front of Ekstrom Library in early February. Instructors are eligible to be featured as a "Top" Faculty Favorite every five years.

The fall 2018 nomination period opens on November 13 and closes on December 15.

The spring 2019 nomination period opens on April 1 and closes on May 3.

• Khaldoun Almousily
  Classical and Modern Languages
  College of Arts and Sciences
  He is by far the best professor on this campus and is well liked and respected. He deserves this award!
  
  Professor Khaldoun makes learning a difficult language extremely enjoyable, and he always made himself available to help students struggling with the content. Khaldoun has an infectious love for the Arabic language and approached each day with an awesome attitude that he tried tirelessly to pass on to his students. I believe he has gone beyond what is expected of him as a faculty member at the University of Louisville, and his efforts have earned him the love and respect of his current and former students.
  
  Khaldoun is an incredible instructor and goes above and beyond to make learning Arabic fun and useful. He is inspiring and encourages us to be aware of the world around us through learning a beautiful language.
  
  Professor Almousily is without a doubt the most engaging professor I have ever had. His passion for the Arabic language is contagious as he makes learning seem easy and fun! It's obvious that he cares deeply about his students. He is an excellent man and a wonderful professor.
  
  This professor genuinely cares about the students, and his passion really motivated me to learn the material. More need to take him!!
  
  Professor Khaldoun is a great professor. He's very patient and always considering all students when teaching. His passion for his class shows in his students and their happiness with choosing in learning Arabic.
  
  Professor Almousily always makes class engaging and well worth my while attending. Arabic is one of my favorite classes, and I intend on going further into the program.
  
  Professor Khaldoun is one of the best professors I've had at UofL. He truly cares about all the students and makes learning a difficult language easy and fun.
  
  Khaldoun is without a doubt the best professor I have had in my time at this university. He genuinely cares about each and every one of his students and makes the class fun. Everyone does so well because he makes learning fun. And absolutely great professor and great guy.
  
  Professor Almousily strives to help his students understand Arabic and eradicate any stereotypes of the language. He also provides his classes with social and political context for Arab speaking countries. So, students not only feel that they are learning a language, but slowly a culture that has been so foreign to them. He teaches Arabic in a way that it becomes casually familiar to us, thus integrated in our lives. Professor Almousily also increases retention rates by always keeping the class in a jolly mood. I always try to come to class even if I am sick, because I know he will introduce funny, appropriate, jokes and keep the atmosphere light.
  
  He is encouraging and works exceptionally hard for his students.
  
  Khaldoun has inspired me more than any human ever has before. It all started after we learned how to ask, "How are you?" in Arabic. One day, he greeted our class by asking, "How are you?" in Arabic. A few people responded, "fine," "good," etc. He then nearly exploded giving a big speech on why all of us should be "excellent," because of the sheer fact that we are miraculously alive and well on this dear planet of ours. His positivity and beautiful outlook on life has been my constant source of inspiration. Not only has he influenced me to become a more positive person, he is ALWAYS providing information on how to get involved, especially with worldly events. He always gives us helpful information and resources for jobs, studying abroad, scholarships, etc. I feel educated, included, and limitless and like the world is just waiting for me to conquer it, all because of him. Not only all of this, but he's just a flippin' phenomenal teacher. He's so passionate, and so dang fun and funny. I never EVER have been in a class where I don't laugh or smile. I am so excited to learn and do life, because of this wondrous professor.
  
  Prof. Almousily has worked himself to death trying to grow a desperately needed, misunderstood, and understaffed program and has done wonders. Students learning the Arabic language and Arab culture is important now more than ever. Prof. Almousily has opened our eyes to the wonders of the Arab world through field trips and study abroad opportunities that allow us to use our Arabic training to communicate with those abroad, as well as disadvantaged immigrants in our own backyard who are always grateful to hear students speak their language and embrace their culture.
  
  Professor Khaldoun is an outstanding professor. He has definitely been my favorite teacher at the University of Louisville because of his love for the subject; he personifies an excellent mentor while managing to make class an exciting learning environment. Many students who took him now want to change their major/minor because of how much they genuinely enjoyed his class and learning from such a considerate professor. I, personally, have never been so enthusiastic about learning a language and going to every single class. The professor truly provides every opportunity possible for students to excel. He spends time in class covering job opportunities that can be provided regarding the language we’re learning, sends multiple emails throughout the week of scholarship opportunities, and makes his classroom’s environment remarkably welcoming. I have never met a professor who cares so deeply about his student’s academic career. His brilliant style of teaching reflects his admiration for the subject, and his willingness to make students interested in the subject, and not just memorize it, speaks volumes. Overall, he is such an amazing professor and his name garners enthusiasm among his students when discussing him.
  
  Mr. Almousily is a very engaging teacher. He is very passionate about what he does, and his enthusiasm shows and influences his students. He has taken a subject that is rated as very difficult to learn and made it something as simple as breathing. Every student seems to be excelling. I notice this progress in myself as well as my cohort. There are so many things to be said about the atmosphere of the class and the ability of the instructor to make this information easy to grasp and creating an amazing learning environment.
  
  Professor Khaldoun is truly dedicated to his students. His classes encompass a variety of creative methods to ensure students learn Arabic. One of my favorite professors by far.
  
  Mr. Almousily makes class very comforting and inviting. He is fun, energetic, and easy to cooperate with.

  Professor Almousily makes learning Arabic extremely fun and interesting. I do not consider myself very proficient when it comes to learning a language, but this class quickly became my favorite class in college. I hope to continue my studies in Arabic, and it is due to the enjoyment I have for this class as well as Professor Almousily's teaching style.
  
  Professor Almousily has influenced his students in a life-changing way. He teaches Arabic in such a fun and engaging way that makes his students, and anybody who hears him talking about the subject, fall in love with the language and culture. He is always available to help and genuinely care for his students. The Arabic Program wouldn't be what it is without him. Taking this class was one of the best decisions I have made since I got to college, and I can openly say that my classmates feel the same way.
  
  Professor Khaldoun is a kindhearted soul who genuinely wants his students to learn Arabic in the most effective and enjoyable ways possible. He is the type of professor who truly enjoys teaching and would go out of his way to help his students. Every so often UofL gifts its students with a truly exceptional professor. For me, Professor Khaldoun created an environment of learning in his classroom that has helped me grow and prosper. Thank you to the University of Louisville for providing such a wonderful addition to the language program. I hope he's awarded the recognition he deserves.
  
  He deserves this award over any other faculty member. He is not only a professor to his students, but a friend as well. He cares about them. He helps them with future goals and success. He makes learning more than just a classroom experience. He's one in a million and deserves any award and all awards that go his way. He will be one of my most memorable people, not just professor, of all time.
  
  He makes learning Arabic so fun and easy. I never dread going to his class, and everyone has a good time while being in his class!
  
  He's the best professor I have ever had. If there is a reason why I've learned so much Arabic over the span of 12 weeks, it's him. I've never seen such a caring professor, and he's hilarious too. There is a reason why so many people do well in his class.
  
  Professor Khaldoun is an amazing, understanding professor, always willing to help out and improve our skills in Arabic. One of the most understanding and engaging professors I've had in college. He always facilitates understanding of the material and teaches us a realistic application of the language in the real world.
  
  Khaldoun Almousily will be repeatedly referred to as an engaging and encouraging professor, and this is due largely to his generosity in teaching the positive atmosphere of his classes. He has encouraged and helped many students to learn Arabic and apply to programs that advance their education. I am currently studying abroad because of him and owe him a debt of gratitude. This is why he is my favorite instructor.
  
  He's an awesome teacher constantly helping us and finding new ways to make Arabic fun and easy to learn.
  
  Khaldoun Almousily is the best Arabic instructor I have ever had! He does not only teach the Arabic language but he brings the Arab world and culture into his classes. He shares his culture and talks about others, brings delicious Jordanian and Moroccan food--Conversation table--, sings beautiful songs every session and invites guest speakers! His classes are always enjoyable and no student feels anxious of committing a mistake! I learned a lot from him and corrected some false ideas I had! Khaldoun was first an instructor, but we ended up being good friends. He made a change in my life, and I am planning now to extend my Arabic knowledge by visiting the Middle East or North Africa!
  
  Professor Khaldoun is incredible. He teaches the language in a fun and interactive way so that we learn and have a good time. He also teaches us about the culture of different Arabic speaking countries and opens doors to many activities to travel abroad, teach, etc. One of the best professors I have ever had.

  Professor Khaldoun has been such an inspiring figure for wanting to continue education in the Arabic field. He never fails to provide encouragement and support as well as propelling us forward with the language. He has always been an open-door mentor and is my point of contact whenever I've had any questions or issues, since I've been at the University of Louisville.
  
  He makes something that seems literally impossible seamless. Professor Almousily is truly one of the most heartfelt and caring educators I've ever encountered.
• Kathryn Harman
  Health and Sport Sciences
  College of Education and Human Development
  Dr. Harman has positively impacted my college career at UofL and inspired me to dive into learning about my major courses. I had her for biomechanics as well as an anatomy/physiology lab, and her teaching style helped me to learn more out of any other professor in college. Her guidance through the year on the curriculum, as well as in college as a whole, was helpful to many students.
  
  Although her classes were tough, she was always willing to explain material twice if need be. I truly feel like I learned more from her than I have any other teacher.
  
  I have had Dr. Harman for two consecutive semesters now, and I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to take another course with her next semester. In all my years of school, I’ve never had a teacher who makes me want to be in class as bad as Dr. Harman does. She makes me love the degree I chose and pushes me to further education in grad school. She has gone out of her way, on her own personal time, to help me create new study habits, helps me to understand material that I am stuck on, and she helps me with any questions I have about future education. I love watching her teach in a lab setting. She isn’t a “robot teacher” who just repeats. . . she adapts to every student without the student even asking for a different method of teaching. She knows because she literally cares about each and every one of us. Again, she makes me love what I do and makes me want to continue doing what I do. She honestly and truthfully deserves this award.

  Professor Harman has had a significant impact on my learning. Her extensive knowledge in anatomy and physiology has assisted in my learning and understanding of the human body. In taking such difficult courses, she goes out of her way every class of every course to make sure her students understand the material that is presented. As a graduating senior, she has been one of the most impactful professor I have had during my time at the University of Louisville.

She was incredibly helpful and would always go out of her way to make sure everyone in the class understands what’s going on. She was clear with her expectations and so awesome for people with different learning styles. So glad I took this class with Kathryn Harman!

  Kathryn Harman is an all-around amazing professor. She has made my last semester and one of my most challenging semesters feel like smooth sailing. She is the type of teacher who challenges you at the same time that she genuinely cares about her students' performance. She was always well-prepared for class, attentive/caring about students' concerns and questions, and made for several opportunities for additional help outside of class. She is well-educated and informed about the classes she teaches and always makes students aware of additional outside resources for help too. She is genuine, and anyone can tell she truly cares about her students’ learning. If I had to choose the perfect persona of an educator, Dr. Harman would be it.
  
  She is an amazing human being and an awesome instructor. I don't think I could have been successful in the class I took without her.
  
  Katie is the best professor I've ever had at UofL. The way she teaches Biomechanics makes it so much easier to understand!
  
  Professor Harman has worked with me for the past two semesters, and she has gone above and beyond within her job. She spends countless hours working overtime to make sure we are prepared and will succeed without a doubt. From open labs to countless office meetings, I can't think of a better nominee for this title. She relates to each and everyone one of her students and makes learning the hardest things seem easy. She uses props, makes extra packets, and more until we finally get it. Ms. Harman is awesome and I'm really going to miss her as my teacher!
  
  I had Professor Harman for A&P; lab. She made learning enjoyable and always had a positive attitude. Although the class covered a lot of material that most would say was difficult to learn, she provided many tools to aid in our learning. She was always open to questions and gave her best detailed answer. If any student didn’t understand a concept, she was ready with another explanation to help make the learning process easier. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Professor Harman’s class.

  Dr. Shalaby is the best post-doc ever.
  
  AWESOME!! I love this guy. He's non-threatening, fair, but firm. I learned a lot from him, and he was always thorough and gave perfect responses to inquiries in class.
  
  Dr. Shalaby is a great instructor who cares about his students. Since the class was online for me, I often reached out to him through email, and he responded very quickly answering my questions and problems.
  
  I have learned a lot from Dr. Ahmed, and I am really lucky that he gave me a chance to be one of his students.

  Dr. Ahmed is one of the most compassionate doctors in the Bioengineering Department. He has such a passion for machine learning and medical imaging that bleeds over into his teaching. He always seems to take the dry topic that is medical imaging and make it interesting. He always is willing to do what it takes to ensure that every student has an understanding of what we are going over.
  
  Dr. Shalaby was able to teach me a lot about machine learning in medical domain this semester. He was always willing to help no matter the problem, whether it was outside of class or in it. He is really a great teacher and very understanding with a lot of patience. Makes us work hard but encourages and helps us understand concepts and principles. Thank you, Dr. Shalaby!
  
  I am very pleased to nominate Dr Ahmed Shalaby. He is a great professor and is always quick to answer any questions you may have. Flexible, funny, and an excellent teacher. Gave difficult projects and instructive homework. Dr. Shalaby has excelled as a teacher. We received exceptional machine learning in medical imaging that he offered to us. His lectures are always clear presentations of state-of-the-art material, such as the demonstrations of his most recent research advances.

• John Finch
  Early Childhood and Elementary Education

  I choose Dr. Finch as my faculty favorite because his course challenged me academically. The work was always meaningful and led to me feeling more prepared to be a future educator. His class is engaging, and there are high expectations for students. I believe he should be awarded the faculty favorite this year.
  
  Dr. Finch is an exceptional teacher. He will go out of his way to be sure all of his students are working hard and always pushes everyone to do their best. He is a great resource and extremely knowledgeable.
  
  Puts thorough feedback into all students' work and is so personable. Challenges us to better ourselves and helps everybody become an amazing teacher.
  
  Dr. Finch really helped prepare me for everything related to teaching/education. He cares so much for his students and will do anything to help them succeed. I know that even when I am graduated and have my own classroom (or even ten years down the road), I could contact him for anything and he would still be happy to help.
  
  I have never experienced learning the way I did during my time in the courses taught by Dr. Finch. He is the hardest working instructor on campus, and I WILL take bets on that. He really cares about his students and the kids that they will be teaching one day. The workload is high, but he gives incredible feedback (best I've ever gotten) and does so in a timely manner. For example, each of his students turned in 80+ page binders that were both typed out, and handmade, and he graded all 20+ in three days, with a detailed rubric, and post-it notes commenting on a large amount of pages. He will answer emails regarding class as soon as he sees them (basically anytime besides 12am-5am). He is the best teacher I have ever had and ever will have. University of Louisville, he is the best teacher YOU have. Show him the love he deserves. If you need any more proof, let me know. I will argue as much as I need to.

  Dr. Finch is hands down the best professor at the university. He is passionate for the program, extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. He deserves this for his hard work and care.
• Emily Schnarr
  Management
  College of Business
  This semester was Professor Schnarr's first experience as a professor, and I think she did a great job. She was very attentive, passionate about the class and was always willing to help anyone that needed help. Apart from that, she was funny and a great person.
  
  She provided all the resources to the class in order for us to succeed. She was always available when we needed her to teach us a concept from class. The class in itself is a difficult one, but she taught the class as well as anybody could have.
  
  This was Professor Schnarr's first semester teaching at UofL. She is the best first-semester professor I have had at UofL in my four years of being here. She put 110% effort into teaching MGMT 401 (Operations Management) even while having a full-time job as a plant manager. Her real-world examples from her experience in operations management made the class more enjoyable. Even though the material was often difficult and sometimes dry, she sought to make classes as interesting as she could. She always communicated clearly and had the humility to follow up and correct any mistakes she made. Professor Schnarr also provided us with as many resources as she could to help us succeed, including detailed study guides, additional practice problems, extended deadlines, and personalized feedback. In addition, she challenged us to think. She expected us to be fully engaged in class and asked us lots of questions to help us engage. I could tell that she prepared carefully for her lectures and anticipated areas of confusion that students might have. Professor Schnarr approached teaching MGMT 401 with an attitude of continuous improvement and a desire to do the absolute best she could. Even as she taught us about Lean concepts and the idea of continuous improvement in operations management, she exemplified that mentality in the way she taught the class.
  
  Great instructor! Always very energetic and excited to teach us what she experiences everyday as an operations manager. My favorite class of the semester! Great at explaining confusing topics and always willing to lend a hand.
  
  She was a great teacher, and on top of her full-time job, she was able to teach a very difficult course efficiently.
  
  Emily Schnarr had her first semester teaching this semester, and she did a wonderful job. She was descriptive and good with explaining every concept in this class. She really cared about her students understanding everything. She wouldn't move on to the next topic until everybody understood. She would go out of her way to explain everything and gave this class her all, even though she was really busy working another demanding job, which means a lot as a student. It would make her ecstatic to be recognized for her hard work and caring personality, and I really think she deserves this recognition more than anyone else who's ever taught me.

  She was brand new and worked incredibly hard to teach us. The class was super difficult, but she prepared us very well for the cumulative department final!
  
  Professor Schnarr is an amazing professor! This was her first semester teaching, and she was balancing another full-time job as a plant manager this semester. Despite this, she brought incredible experiences and a passion for teaching to the table. She is one of the best educators I have ever had the opportunity to learn from. She was very relatable all semester and made herself available to us outside the classroom whenever we needed her. I always felt like I could rely on her to quickly get back to me when I emailed her and that she would always make time for my questions. She has built her career in operations management, so she was able to bring a lot of updated, real-world knowledge and experience to the table. I had heard from many friends and peers that operations management is one of the worst/hardest classes they have had to take as business majors. Needless to say, I was REALLY dreading this class in August. Professor Schnarr made the difficult material not as intimidating, and she really brought the material to life. I learned more in this class than I have in almost any class I have taken at UofL. It was hands down my favorite class this semester, and I attribute that totally to the energy Professor Schnarr brought to the classroom! She worked so hard for her students this semester and is one of the most dedicated educators I have ever encountered--she deserves to be recognized!

2017-2018 Nominations

• Lois Abdelmalek
  Theatre Arts
  College of Arts and Sciences
  Lois is the most passionate and caring instructor that I have had at my time here at UofL. She genuinely cares about each and every one of her students and makes all of them feel at home in her classroom. She is so knowledgeable about what she is teaching and makes learning and going to her class fun. I have enjoyed every minute of having Lois as my instructor.
  
  I am a senior, finishing up my last year at UofL. I put off all of my weird classes to the end, because I was not looking forward to taking them. One of those classes was TA324, Acting for non-majors. In order to graduate, there was no way around it, I had to take it. I am a very introverted person and usually keep to myself, so I was pretty nervous and anxious about this class. However, at about the second week I knew everything was going to be alright because of Professor Abdelmalek. My class is a pretty diverse group of people, from football players and a couple of military guys, to girls who do ballet on the weekends. No matter how different, I feel safe to say that Professor Abdelmalek made us all feel comfortable in our own way. She told us on the first day to not be afraid to act a fool in class because she will be acting like the biggest fool. She encouraged our talents and noticed what our strengths were and brought them out of us every day. She used her resources and brought in a personal friend to teach an improv class which was the funnest class I’ve ever had in the 16 years I have been a student. Professor Abdelmalek took no short cuts in teaching this class. We had a balance of book work and learning the required material and still had as much time as possible to “play” and act. She took the time to send emails to every student after they performed that day to tell us how proud she was of us, our improvements, and made us feel great about ourselves and our work. Even after doing that in class, along with being in the department’s play, Our Country’s Good, rehearsing every day for hours, and memorizing pages of script, she never shied away from class and always gave us her full 100% effort and attention. Even though no one may care because it is only a theatre arts, non-majors class, I wanted to take the time to write this and let the university know that they found a great instructor, and I honestly looked forward to going to class every single day.
• Jamie Abrams
  Brandeis School of Law
  Professor Abrams is the absolute best part of Brandeis Law School. She is everything you would want as a law student, especially as a first-year law student. Professor Abrams brings such warmth and thoughtfulness into the classroom, which makes it so much easier to want to learn. She has high expectations of her students, but that makes all of the students try that much harder in learning the material to make sure we don't disappoint her. She is the biggest cheerleader of her students. My first semester of law school was made so much better because of Professor Abrams.
• Leslie Abramson

  Professor Abramson is the best embodiment of a good law school professor. He makes classroom learning fun yet straightforward and not a waste of time.
  
  Professor Abramson is always available to talk with students about school and non-school related issues. He is passionate about his job, and it is obvious that he loves his students and wants them to succeed.
  
  Professor Abramson has given me a greater understanding of the federal rules of criminal procedure, as well as a comparison of the Kentucky rules. He makes the subject matter interesting and incorporates fun ways to learn the material.

  Katie was a part of the teaching in the ECPY 302 class I was in, and honestly, I cannot thank her enough for helping me get through the semester. She is a wonderful and extremely helpful advisor!
• V. Joshua Adams

  College of Arts and Sciences
  Professor Adams is one of the most intelligent, dedicated, helpful, and passionate professors I've ever had. He puts his soul into our course work and understanding of the readings we discuss and tries to not only cultivate not only our skills but also our understanding of humanity. I am very grateful to have had him as a professor and believe he deserves great recognition.
• Brittany Adams-Pope
  Equine Industry Program
  College of Business
  Dr. AP is an asset to the Equine Industry Program and the University as a whole! As students, learning from Dr. Adams-Pope is always interesting. She is able to explain material in a way that, horse people and people that have never touched a horse in their life, both can understand. Her lifetime of experience is priceless and gives her the necessary knowledge to teach us in any aspect of the horse industry, and as the horse industry is evolving, so is her teaching. For example, as new disciplines of riding become more popular, she adds them to the list of topics she teaches about. Dr. Adams-Pope goes above and beyond her responsibilities as a professor. She genuinely cares about her students, their lives, their well-being, and wants them to be interested in, or at the very least, experience what the horse industry has to offer. I came to the University of Louisville from out of state as an Equine Business Major with no specifics about what I wanted to do for a career. In my freshman year here, Dr. Adams-Pope is always presenting what kind of jobs are in the industry and encouraging us to try internships in different areas to see what we like in the industry.
  
  Dr. AP was brilliant, both inside and outside the classroom this semester. Not only did she keep class interesting and fun, but she also took the time to get to personally know her students. She has served as not only a professor for me this school year, but also as a mentor, role model, and friend.
  
  Dr. AP has gone above and beyond her duty as a professor. She has helped me with multiple other classes and the overall adjustment to college life. I know whenever I have any sort of issue, Dr. AP will be there for me.
  
  Dr. Adams-Pope is the most gifted teacher, a great advisor, and trusted friend to all of her students. I have learned so much in the two EQ courses I have attended that are taught by her. The program would truly be nothing without her. She is passionate about what she teaches and cares for all of her students. Dr. Adams-Pope has the student's best interest in mind always and is the most dedicated teacher I have ever had the pleasure of learning from.
  
  Not only is Dr. AP a great teacher, but she is a phenomenal mentor and friend to all of her students. Her door is always open for anybody to stop in and say hello, talk about anything horse related, cry, and have a conversation with. She truly loves and cares for all of her students and has been a great mentor to the riding teams she advises. Dr. AP is someone that all teachers--regardless of what level they teach--should strive to be. I can't think of any other professor more deserving of this award than her.
  
  Dr. AP has been one of the best instructors I have ever had. She engaged everyone in the class, from the students who knew nothing about horses, to the students who were riding them everyday. She made the class engaging and enjoyable to be a part of while also providing an atmosphere ripe for learning. She is also always there for students, and even though I am graduating, if I needed help with something, I think she would put me on the right track and figure out what I needed to do to solve a problem. That is what going the extra mile and what being a college professor is all about; having a love for students and learning in general.

After each class, I am so intrigued and interested in our class topics and the way he explains them that I get so excited learning about it, and I constantly tell my family about the next thing I learned in his class. Dr. Atlas has truly had a significant impact on me, my learning, and the start of my nursing career.

  Geoff Bailey is such an accommodating professor. Although he is a total stickler for APA, he is fair with his grading. Geoff is easily accessible, even though he is only an adjunct faculty. REACH and the CSP program are beyond lucky to have his skills, kindness, and student-centered philosophy. I am impressed how quickly he replies to my emails and how frequently he makes time for his students. I also really appreciate his creative teaching approach and willingness to try new things (like letting a student Skype in to deliver a presentation so they could follow through with an interview out-of-state). UofL needs more people like Geoff Bailey.

I felt like she really cared about our education and was putting her best foot forward.   As a professor, she opened up and let us get to know her as a person, which you don't see very often. In result, we always felt confident in what we were learning because of her vast experience as a nurse and her willingness to let us in. She created a completely nonjudgmental learning environment, always encouraging us to be our best self and future nurse. She was always kind and extremely positive, and her energy was radiant and would immediately put you in a better mood. She was awesome!

  Online classes are normally super impersonal but just as stressful as on-campus courses. Professor Baker made it a point to send us encouraging messages throughout the term and was easy to reach via email. Sometimes an email from your professor (sent to the entire class) simply telling you to keep up the good work and to keep going and NOT reminding you of an upcoming due date lifts so much weight off your shoulders. Even if Professor Baker doesn't make it into the top, please share with him that his tactics for teaching an online class should be mirrored by ALL online professors.

If I ever have the chance again, I would definitely take Dr. Berfield for another class.

He relates his own experiences with the topics of the classes he is teaching on the day. One class he explained, Pressure Vessels Stresses and Strains, by cooking hotdogs for the entire class, and everyone enjoyed it very much.

  I am writing to support the nomination of Dr. Matthew Bergman from the School of Education's Organizational Leadership and Learning program for the 2018 Delphi Center's Faculty Favorites award based on his ability to mentor students that struggle with issues particular to their personal, professional and academic life. Dr. Bergman is always available and lets you know that he is willing to talk about anything that may stand in the way of a student fulfilling their academic goals. He takes his abilities beyond the classroom and devotes his time to assisting students to apply themselves to the best of their abilities. With the support of Dr. Bergman, I am happy to say I graduated from the Organizational Leadership and Learning program, and now I am pursuing my Master's degree in Human Resource and Organizational Development, which I never dreamed of being possible. Dr. Bergman has supported me throughout my mental health issues and dealing with my bipolar type 1 diagnosis in my undergraduate. He gave me the tools to address these issues in a professional manner that would allow me to effect change in the face of opposition. Dr. Bergman offered his supportive counsel from a mentor perspective when I wanted to drop out of school. He is one of the most excellent examples of an authentic professional in higher education. If it were not for him guiding other students and me through some rough times, I believe we might not be here at the University of Louisville working towards a better tomorrow. It is with great honor that I submit this nomination, not only for Dr. Bergman's support of students with disabilities, but his support and advocacy for all students experiencing hardships. I know of no one more deserving of 2018 Delphi Center's Faculty Favorites award. If he does not win this award, I am sure that he will in the near future, as he works tirelessly to lead students towards academic success.

  Dr. Bergman is committed to making his classes enjoyable for everyone. He is also committed to the success of each student. Dr. Bergman went out of his way to make himself approachable, and encourages students to contact him with questions and concerns. He even adjusted our schedule after talking to a few students and discussing how the schedule could be changed to optimize learning. I have participated in many online classes at three different schools. While Louisville has been my best experience by far, and I am happy to have found a home, Professor Bergman has also stood out. Our Leadership and Management class was the most relatable and interactive class I have participated in. I felt like I was visiting campus. Matt went out of his was to share personal tidbits, such as his newborn, by way of weekly videos, announcements, and updates. He also seemed to grade my work as fast as I could turn it in and addressed any questions or concerns I had within minutes by way of familiar and informal communication, which lends to creating good rapport. I could easily address Dr. Bergman's leadership traits, skills, and style, but I will suffice to say that he has led by example as an exemplary leader. For example, I would generally point out the irony of a communication class wherein my professor wasn't available. That isn't the case with the Doc; he practices what he preaches.
  
  Dr. Bergman is an outstanding instructor for the College. He is supportive, genuine, and caring of each student. I felt secure and safe in his class. His knowledge of the content and topics were in-depth. More importantly, I excelled in his course because he was authentic, and I believed/trusted his commitment and words. I graduate this May, but looking back, I wished I could have worked with Dr. Bergman in other classes. If I come back for graduate studies, I will be looking him up!

His confidence in our learning the subject shows all the time and keeps us from being intimidated by such advanced physics. Dr. Brown is also a great listener and inspires a sense of trust over what is said. If a student has problems either in school or out, Dr. Brown will sit down with the student to understand the situation and provide any help he can.
  
  The class was fantastic. The exams were well made and portioned appropriately. The instructor was funny, knowledgeable, and willing to help students. The class material was splendid and made the class enjoyable overall. I would strongly recommend this instructor to any other student.

  Dr. Brown is a wonderful teacher and a role model neurologist for all his trainees. He has a deep understanding of neuroanatomy and physiology, which he never hesitates from sharing. He truly cares for his patients, respects them and spends a lot of time listening to their stories. He believes that patient care is incomplete as long as a patient feels he is unheard. In spite of being a busy physician, he spends ample time with his residents, medical students--he tries to kindle their interest and inspires them to pursue neurology. It is essential to honor a physician academician like Dr. Brown, because it is rare to find teachers like him, who hold as much patience, and who care as deeply as he does.

Every book mentioned she brings with her, and I think that's part of what makes her inspirational. She's deeply interested in the subject herself--she's done her homework and there's no doubt she probably gives 110% at every goal she sets out to achieve. I had the pleasure of taking both SPAN 404 and SPAN 405 with her and she should be nominated because she stands out by far amongst many.
  
  Provides an amazing study space for her students, fully stocked with coffee, herbal tea, and snacks. One day I had $0 in my bank account and on my student card, and the chips she provided for me was the only food I had that day. It means a lot to me that she cares so much.

Her successful career and the love she has endeared from students make her more than worthy of recognition. I am forever grateful that I got to be a part of her last class and that she was a part of my final chapter at this university as well.
  
  Global Change Ecology is a course that should be a gen-ed requirement for EVERY student. Even with my pre-med curriculum, we never learn about the real scientific issues facing our daily lives, our lives on this planet. I had a very rudimentary and misinformed foundation of basic concepts like climate change, water pollution, etc. I couldn't answer the question "what has nature ever done for us" and looking back, that is truly a shame (and an embarrassment). I learned more than I could have ever asked for with this elective, and I've become a more conscious, aware, and productive member of society as a result. As Dr. Carreiro is retiring and the elective's future is bleak, I urge the faculty to find a way to keep this class alive because there IS interest! On our last day of class, Dr. Carreiro was brought to tears upon the realization that it was her last time teaching this course. After 27 years of wholeheartedly committing to our student body, I truly believe Dr. Carreiro deserves this recognition. Even so, it would not do justice or show enough appreciation for the long-lasting impact she has had on my life. Dr. Carreiro is truly one of a kind. I think everyone in our class would agree that no one will be able to replace her, nor carry on her legacy with this elective, and it makes me sad for the future students of UofL. It was incredibly refreshing to have an instructor who is extremely passionate about the course content, and it translated to my motivation as a student. Thank you to Dr. Carreiro for pouring her heart and soul into this course because she impacted all of us this semester (and from what I've heard, in semesters past as well). I left every class lecture thinking "Dr. Carreiro for president!!!!" and I will surely miss having her as a professor.

  Dr. Caruso is by far one of the most influential professors I have ever came across. His aspiration to help all students that come across him shows his true character. I was fortunate to meet Dr. Caruso late in the summer of 2017. He willingly allowed me to be a subject in his NASA based research project, and from there, he has inspired me to do so much. He has shown me the beauty of conducting research, what it means, and how to interpret it. He continues to help me find funding for school, internships, and much more. I would be surprised if you found any professor that compares to Dr. Caruso in the state of Kentucky. It is an honor to nominate Dr. John Caruso as my favorite faculty member.

  Dr. Raymond Chastain is one of the best professors in the Physics Department. Despite his current academic position, he has the maturity of a chair or senior faculty member. Always available, for students both in and outside of his classes, Raymond makes time to counsel, console and even chastise when necessary. I have lost track of the number of times this semester that I have had a problem, either personal or professional which I have brought to him for his consideration. Dr. Chastain, despite working on educational physics, should be given a much more significant role in the Physics Department and deserves every award, honor and benefit that can be appropriated for him.
  
  I had Dr. Chastain for PHYS 298. It is clear that he knows the material and can answer any questions you ask him (class-related or hypothetical) with a great level of detail. He also keeps the class interesting with his interactive teaching style and sense of humor.
  
  I've never had a professor so invested in the learning experience of his students. Dr. Chastain actually makes physics fun and accessible, even if it's not our intended major.
  
  Dr. Chastain is the most engaging professor I've ever had. His passion for teaching is palpable. He has transformed a difficult and potentially dry subject into one that is approachable and enjoyable. He explains topics in multiple ways and takes a hands-on approach to learning that is effective. Dr. Chastain seems to know all of our names (200+ students!) and seeks to pull out the best in each of us. I scheduled my entire semester around one of his classes. He's a must-take! Thank you Dr. Chastain!
  
  Dr. Chastain is the best professor I've ever had. He gets it. He teaches college students the way college students should be taught, and he makes a subject that everyone dreads incredibly enjoyable. I wish he would teach other professors how to teach, because his teaching style is incredible and so effective. He is so kind and always willing to help whenever he can, in addition to providing students everything they need to learn. He pushes students to be greater and has instilled a lot of confidence in me I didn't have prior to taking physics with him the past two semesters. He deserves this above anyone else, and I'd be happy to advocate more for him if needed. His numbers from this semester alone speak to this--out of two physics sections that are usually split 50/50, 90% of the students in physics 222 took his course over the other option. He is an amazing professor, and I cannot say enough great things about him.

  I've had a lot of professors and teachers during my educational years, but Dr. Chastain has raised the bar. The amount of time he puts into teaching us is unparalleled: class, office time, self-made YouTube videos. Being a post-baccalaureate student and this being my 6th year at a college level, I have not met a professor this dedicated to his students' success, and I thank him for that.
  
  He has made learning physics so enjoyable and able to be clearly understood. Professor Chastain has learned the names of everyone in my very large classroom. I have never seen a professor even attempt to learn anyone's names who did not go to their office hours. He is mainly able to do this by attending all of his recitation sessions, instead of a TA leading the recitation like most professors do. He is able to interact with us one-on-one and makes sure that everyone understands the content. He not only does this in recitation, but also in the large classroom setting. He gives us group work problems and walks around with TAs to help us work the problems. It is very helpful and enjoyable. The way he teaches makes it very clear and exciting. I never really liked physics before, but his teaching style makes it interesting and easy to understand. It is very rare to walk into a college exam, especially being an engineering student, feeling completely prepared and not feeling worried at all. For his exams, I feel ready and like I can do well on it just because of how amazing of a professor he is. He is by far the best teacher I have ever had.

  Dr. Clark has made me so much more excited about starting my journey into the world of nursing next semester! His love for his work really shines through and support he has for all his students does not go unnoticed. While I have only taken one semester with Dr. Clark, he will definitely be one of those professors I will never forget. His knowledge he has passed on will stick with me forever, and I cannot wait to be able to actually apply what I have learned from him after graduation. I have not had many impressionable professors like Dr. Clark before, and for that I believe he deserves to be recognized!
  
  I'd like to nominate Dr. Clark. He is a compassionate, electric, energetic instructor who made pharmacology, a daunting subject by any standard, accessible and fun. I was never once bored and went to class every day ready to learn. He always made time to listen and to answer questions in and out of class. He never made me feel silly or inadequate in any way and always validated my curiosity. It's because of him that I not only learned well but made an A in a class that had me quite nervous at the semester's start. If I could, I would take every class with him. He is a gem and should be appreciated to the fullest!
  
  Dr. Clark is one of the best professors that I have had during my time in college. His lectures are always well-prepared and informative, his test questions are hard enough to test our knowledge, but fair and based on information covered in his lectures. He also goes above and beyond to help students. He records his lectures for us to go back and listen to. He is willing to discuss test questions and explain his thought processes behind each one, but he is also willing to listen to ours and doesn't let pride come in the way of our learning. He is by far my favorite professor so far at the School of Nursing.
  
  Paul Clark is an amazing professor. He is compassionate about what he does, and it really shows in his teaching. He has taught me a great deal these past two semesters.

  I was a student in Dr. Clayton's Political Science 111-02 course this semester, political discourse with a focus on civil rights. Dr. Clayton takes his coursework very seriously, and in doing so, he applies a variety of tools to better students' learning. His course is not one to take if you want an "easy A," but it is for you if you want to become knowledgeable about civil rights and the plight of blacks throughout this era. I would take this class again in a heartbeat. It was my favorite class this semester, but this would not have been the case without Dr. Clayton. He makes himself available to students outside of class and is always available to talk after. I learned so much over the course of this semester in this class thanks to Dr. Clayton, and I felt inclined to challenge myself always. If I haven't convinced you thus far, it is crucial to remember that this course is an introduction course, one many students take to merely check off a general education requirement; in this way, I find his impact even more special. Though I am a political science major, this class allowed me to feel the deep impact of the civil rights era and its impact on the United States. In fact, I have left this class intrigued to learn more and perhaps study the topic in the future.
  
  Dr. Clayton has played such an instrumental role in my undergraduate career--from helping me decide to major in political science, to helping with letters of recommendation, to helping me get into various political science programs. Without Dr. Clayton's mentorship, I would have felt very lost in the Political Science Department!

  Dr. Cumberland was not only a phenomenal professor and helped our class understand organizational ethics, she was also the most understanding and accommodating person I have ever had the pleasure to learn from. As an adult learner with small children and a scattered family, emergencies arose through the semester that Dr. Cumberland was so empathetic about. She truly did everything she could to help me succeed, and the promptness, compassion, and guidance she exuded throughout the entire semester absolutely made her my favorite to learn from. Many more students would succeed if given the environment that Dr Cumberland created.

  Dr. C has been wonderful to work under. She is very thorough, and if you need help, she is there to guide you in the right direction. You can tell she takes her class serious and really has an interest in helping her students grow. I would love to have another class where she is the instructor.
  
  First of all, I'd like to say that this is really unfair to all the faculty. Every instructor I have had has been very, very good. They all have made a difference in each class I have taken, so to say which is your favorite to me is kind of not fair to those hard-working instructors in this OLL program.
  
  Dr. Cumberland is dedicated and very knowledgeable. She made the ethics course challenging, yet very interesting. It was a pleasure learning from her.
  
  Dr. Cumberland is an invested professor. She enlivens lectures with her enthusiasm for the subject. She offers a rich learning experience by providing real-world/business-world examples. She engages her students through different means in order to meet the various learning styles. She is responsive to students’ needs--she asks for feedback from her students to ensure that we are acquiring the knowledge. She demonstrated willingness to help with student projects so that each project was a success. She is one of the best professors that I have ever encountered.

This way his class is more focused on a student becoming a better French speaker overall, rather than just getting an "A" in the class. I love that his classes are a mix of French culture/language/grammar, even if that is not explicitly what the course is about. He treats all of his students with respect and never makes us feel dumb for making mistakes when speaking French or trying to understand a certain concept. He even brought in some documents his family has owned for generations (one from before Columbus discovered America!). The French Department is lucky to have him, and I feel he has definitely helped me grow and become a better French speaker.

  Dr. Dubuque is exceedingly well-versed in behavior analytic literature, the current BACB Experience Standards, and the philosophy of behavior analysis. His passion for the field, his students, and his clients is contagious. He creates a positive space for collaboration, he sets high expectations for his students, and he encourages students to reach out via email, if they have any questions. The amount of knowledge that I absorb from Dr. Dubuque's class within one semester is the equivalent to multiple semesters for most professors. He is more than deserving to be recognized for his dedication to education.
  
  Erick Dubuque is outstanding in his knowledge, preparation, organization, structure, consistency, fairness, and ability to present on a variety of topics in behavior analysis. I had the privilege of having Dr. Dubuque as my professor for 6 out of 14 required courses for my program. He always invited the class to ask questions, thoroughly answered everyone's questions, encouraged appropriate class conversation and full participation, and maintained the highest level of professionalism and ethical prowess in each class. Dr. Dubuque also went out of his way to organize a Behavior Analyst Job Fair for all 6 students in my cohort and invited 16 different employees. He also fought for the Behavior Analyst Certification Board to grant us permission to take the BCBA Exam in May because it was not possible to receive our final transcripts before the BACB's April 1st deadline. Additionally, Erick has also played an active role in advocating for individuals with disabilities in bringing discriminatory issues in insurance policies to Frankfort to fight for no restrictions to age or hours of applied behavior analysis (ABA) services for those who require it. Dr. Dubuque has been a true mentor and exemplary leader of what it means to be a teacher who instills knowledge and success in all of his students. I highly recommend Dr. Dubuque as a Faculty Favorite.

  I am very pleased to write a nomination for Dr. Ayman El-Baz who is my co-advisor and the director of the bioimaging laboratory and the chair of the Bioengineering Department. Dr. El-Baz has demonstrated extraordinary commitment and effectiveness as a mentor, with persistent effort to provide mentoring of all his graduate and undergraduate students. As a PhD student under his supervision, I benefited tremendously from Dr. El-Baz’s mentoring, which made me write this nomination letter. Dr. El-Baz has also excelled as a teacher. We received exceptional medical imaging training that he offered to us. His lectures are always clear presentations of state-of-the-art material, such as the demonstrations of his most recent research advances. The most notable aspect of Dr. El-Baz’s mentoring is how he helps his students to build their career in medical imaging. Dr. El-Baz is always willing to share his experience and knowledge to find career-related information and exposure to various professional resources, opportunities, and networks.   Professor Elpidorou is inspiring to every student who walks through his door; he grants him/her with the boundless freedom of thinking in more ways than one and gradually figuring out our own perspectives of the world. He encourages discussion, disagreement, even, and makes it clear that as long as you can make an argument for your view, it is all but rightfully yours. He is a light to all his students and deserves to be recognized for his countless efforts made for each of us.

  UofL is really lucky to have brought on Dr. Enders as part of its faculty. He is so organized, which really contributes to students' learning. Even after the conclusion of the class, I still have great resources (PowerPoint lecture slides, .pdf readings, etc.) to continue building upon my knowledge. I really enjoyed Dr. Enders' class, POLS 321: Public Opinion, because the subject matter was interesting, pertinent to our current sociopolitical climate, and genuinely changed how I thought about certain things. The bottom line is, I actually LEARNED from Dr. Enders. Speaking from personal experience, there are plenty of professors who just “phone it in” but Dr. Enders is certainly not one of them.

On many occasions, I've met or contacted Dr. Farrier with questions relating to her class and contemporary political policies. We've engaged in thoughtful discussions about these issues, and she's overall solidified my understanding of the American political system. As an Americanist and devoted political science major, I idolize Dr. Farrier's educational background and research initiatives. And although I'm already stubbornly set for a future in political science, Dr. Farrier continues to encourage my desire to pursue a career in American politics.

  As a math major, this history class with Dr. Fleming is the only history class I will take while at the University of Louisville. I am not someone who has ever enjoyed a history class. However, Dr. Fleming made this history class very interesting and worthwhile.
  
  Dr. Fleming really cares about his students and has completely changed my perspective on American history and African history. I now understand race relations in the U.S. much better knowing the origins in transatlantic slavery--this is a BIG topic to teach, and Dr. Fleming does it so well. He is energetic, makes class fun, and will let his students know he appreciates their input in class. He goes out of his way to make sure all students are included. I am so glad to have him as a professor in UofL's History Department.

  Dr. Fowler has been the most impressive professor I've had at UofL. I've attended several extracurricular talks/speeches in my time at UofL; Dr. Fowler gave over 40 of those this semester for our class. His lectures are extremely detailed and informative. If we missed class because of a snow day, he doesn't mind to record that 50-minute lecture for us to listen to online. He handcrafted all of the reading materials for the course and created a very extensive "course packet" unlike anything I've seen in any other class. Dr. Fowler was always in a great mood, energetic, and extremely accessible outside of class. Dr. Fowler has been my favorite professor in my time at UofL.

  Truly, I can't imagine another professor who is as invested in her students as Dr. Freberg. Not only is she continually checking in to make sure that your current academic endeavors are being tended to, but she is continually investing in our futures and helping us to make connections in our desired fields through her various contacts. I am in my seventh semester at UofL, and while I have had many great professors, Dr. Freberg is an absolute standout. The Communication Department (and the university) are so lucky to have her--and so are we as her students.

I find online classes to be less personal and harder to learn as you mostly teach yourself the material. I didn't feel that way at all with Dr. Gagne's online class. The class felt more like an actual classroom than online course as we got to work together in the discussion board settings. This class was the hardest I had this semester and yet my favorite.

I have taken two classes with Dr. Gittings in the Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration program, and I have been impressed by his always being available and willing to provide clarity, assistance and support to students as needed. He doesn't play games or try to "trick" students, but instead, offers a variety of pedagogical approaches to reach students where they are and help them learn the required content. In addition to textbooks, he provides articles, videos, and other resources that have proven to be extremely helpful. I have used content learned in both of his courses not only as I progress through the program, but as I progress in my career. Thanks to his teaching methodology, I have gone from being intimidated by philosophical foundations of education to APPLYING philosophical foundations to the work I do!! That is no easy feat! Lastly, Dr. Gittings is fun, funny, approachable, open and affirming. He is committed to equity and inclusion, and teaches in a way that supports diverse student populations. He shares personal stories of his struggles and successes that are relatable to students regardless of age, family status or classification in the program. I highly recommend him as my Faculty Favorite!

  I have been experiencing some issues at my practicum placement but did nothing about them until I realized my manager was not going to pass me. At that time, I reached out to my assigned worker but got no response. Mr. Tony Helm referred to Ms. Lynetta Mathis. Lynetta called me late on a Friday evening while I was driving in traffic and had my barking dog with me. In other words, she had every reason to be short with me; my situation was a tad chaotic initially. On the contrary, Ms. Mathis was very professional, polite, understanding, and most of all, patient. She waited until I parked, took the time to listen, followed-up with appropriate questions, weighed evidence from both sides, expressed empathy, made a decision, and took immediate action in an effort to resolve my problem. I could stay at my original practicum placement, be miserable another semester, and chalk my internship up to just another of life’s bad experiences but, with Ms. Mathis’ help, I had no need to. As I explained my situation to her, I immediately recognized her focus was on me and my education. Her primary concern is that I be part of a good learning environment. I believe the action she is taking regarding my circumstances demonstrates her dedication to University of Louisville’s education system. She exhibits character that it's not enough to just get through school, she does her best to make it an enjoyable and edifying experience. I also need to address the efforts of Mr. Tony Helm. He has maintained a very professional and friendly attitude despite this additional urgent re-placement matter. His expertise regarding the practicum program has been a tremendous comfort and help for me. His immediate responses and guidance helped me determine a workable plan in which I can move forward. Under these circumstances, I would like to submit a request for two favorite faculty nominations. I truly hope Mr. Helm and Ms. Mathis win this award and are celebrated profusely. You may believe they are merely doing their assigned duties and yes, I would agree. However, I would like to add the fact that, for me, both of them make the difference between merely getting through school and learning from it. I believe this is the goal for the award, correct? I am so glad they have come to my rescue and are currently working to help me get a good education. I am also very pleased I am a part of your student body. I had no idea what she was talking about so she told me that I tell everyone I’m an "a-hole" and I’m not. She said "a-holes" don’t care but you do, you are authentic. That was the first time someone saw me for something other than what I had been portraying myself as and it really inspired me to be a better person and a better leader.

  Dr. Hermann made pathophysiology, a class I was afraid would be challenging, very easy and enjoyable! She really connects herself to her lectures and makes sure to deliver the information precisely, accurately, and easy to understand. She was always cheerful and lit up the room, giving off a very positive vibe and atmosphere, a hard task given 100 nursing students were in the lecture! She went above and beyond to ensure all of her students were given lectures, even when her son was sick and recorded lectures on her own time and providing us students with them when she had to cancel class. That showed me how much respect and genuine care she has for her students. That is very important for a professor to have, and a quality not many possess. She is a rock star professor!

I believe without the help of Dr. Lisa Hooper, I would not be as equipped as I am today and confident in my abilities to move forward as a successful professional. Dr. Hooper deserves this award for her dedication to her students, the countless hours she puts in to ensure our success, and the advocacy she provides to ensure her students are having their best experience as a Louisville Cardinal!

  Dr. Howell is a phenomenal professor who invests her heart and soul into educating her students. She designed her classes (EDTP 341 specifically) such that they were formatted in the most relevant and beneficial ways. She cares about the well-being of each of her students, and she builds the greatest community within her classroom. She is understanding and authentic, caring and knowledgeable. She has touched me in many ways as a current teacher candidate and as a future classroom teacher.
  
  Dr. Howell has made me consider more options for my future career in education; I feel much more passionate about middle level education and teaching in general. She has shown me the crazy amount of changes that young adolescents are experiencing and how I can work with them better once I understand these and take them into account with my practices. I appreciate all of her personal stories, her constant encouragement that productive struggle is good and her modeling of how to build a classroom community. I also had Dr. Howell for another class this semester that she co-taught with Dr. Shelley Thomas. She of course had many examples and tips in that class as well, but she also advocated for us by working to start a new program on trauma-sensitivity in the field of education. Our class is going to continue to meet to share our experiences and keep up our tight community, and I can't wait to see where it takes us. I am so thankful to have had Dr. Howell as a teacher.
  
  Dr. Howell is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best, instructor I have ever learned from. She combines real-life teaching with scholarly instruction to prepare future teachers for the classroom.   Dr. Hoyt isn't just any ordinary instructor. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to do well. She dedicates several hours a week to office hours just because she wants us to be able to succeed in her class. I struggle a lot with chemistry, but the way Dr. Hoyt teaches makes everything easy to understand. It is easy to just go through slides when you have a class the size of our Chem 105 class, but she still makes it more interactive and way less boring. I am so glad I took this class!
  
  Dr. Hoyt has a passion for teaching and chemistry that is unparalleled. After every lecture, she asked "Did you all learn any chemistry today?" Not only do we all laugh, we all shake our heads yes, because we did! The lectures are nearly two hours long and she still finds ways to make it interesting. She teaches to all parts of the room, makes an attempt to learn our names (if we come to office hours), and her office hours are WAY more frequent than what the university mandates. Dr. Hoyt is a smiling face when you're having a bad day. She's a realist, and she's not going to favor anyone. When you leave her class with a passing grade, it's because you learned and earned it. Coming into the class, I dreaded it. The last time I had chemistry was in high school and hated it, but Chem 105 quickly became a class I liked. I enjoyed learning and actually feeling satisfied after lectures and not confused and worried. Dr. Hoyt’s knowledge of chemistry is far above 100 and 200 level courses, but she does an incredible job teaching the entry-level classes. I would take her again, if I had time in my major!
  
  This professor is one in a million. She is very passionate about what she teaches and the approach she takes to teaching. I took her during my Fall 2017 semester (and then again in Spring 2018) and immediately started adoring her teaching style. It is very natural, relaxed, and fun. She is extremely knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to make sure every one of her students understand what she teaches. I would not recommend anyone else except for Dr. Hoyt for incoming students aiming to take general chemistry.
  
  Dr. Hoyt is an excellent professor. Her classes are extremely productive and informative. She makes herself easily accessible throughout the week for questions. Her tests are challenging but fair and reflective of material we covered in class and material assigned outside of class. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Hoyt's class and her teaching style.
  
  Dr. Hoyt is a tremendous teacher who is genuinely passionate about teaching students chemistry. For nearly two straight hours of class, she teaches us chemistry through lecture and worksheets. She is very knowledgeable about chemistry, and whenever I have questions in need of answering, Dr. Hoyt is always willing to lend a helping hand. It's obvious that she does care about her students, and every single class she comes in with a smile on her face just as pumped to teach chemistry as her students are to learn it.

  I've had Yuhan Jane Hua for two semesters in a row now, and I only wish I could take more classes with her! She is the best teacher I've had through my 17 years of school, and I've learned more about myself and the marketing world in her classes than in any others! Jane really does care for her students, and so much so that when it comes to things like being sick or not having a ride to class, she offers well wishes and Uber rides at her cost. Jane really believes in all of us, and I can honestly say that I've never had another professor at this school who has made me feel as special, valuable, and confident as she has. Her love of teaching shines through in her enthusiasm and excitement for class every day, and she never ceases to amaze me in her encouragement of all of her students. Jane offers valuable knowledge about creativity, marketing, entrepreneurship, and advertising, as well as a wide range of very useful guest speakers. Jane is definitely my faculty favorite, and I know she is for other students as well. I am thankful that I have gotten to know Jane and had her as a teacher, and she deserves endless recognition for her work. Because at the end of the day, you can know everything there is to know about business, but it's teachers like Jane that really grow your love for learning and instill the confidence in you that you need for the real world!
  
  There isn't any other teacher like Ms. Hua or as the class calls her "Jane.” Throughout the semester, she has not only helped me out, but has helped everyone in the class learn new material that we can use in the real world and incorporate it into our daily lives in a sense that whatever material she taught the class. She was always able to relate it to some aspect of the business world, and for that I appreciated everything is taught me this semester. So that's why Ms. Hua is my favorite educator, because she takes the time to make sure the material is learned and students like me remember it.

  Dr. Ingle is an excellent instructor. He is very direct and meticulous. He is very knowledgeable and always provides thorough feedback on assignments. He is approachable and always makes time to see his students.
  
  There just aren't words enough to express how Dr. Ingle went above and beyond in helping me along my doctoral journey. He guided me through the process by helping me with calendar items, as well as the writing process as a whole. He was quick to tell me when I needed more research here and there to support a point/claim, but he was just as quick to applaud me when I did something great! He challenged me every step of the way while nurturing me at the same time. The word "nurture" might not be the first word most associated with Dr. Ingle, but believe me, he cares for his doctoral students more than anything in this world. He wants all his students to achieve greatness and stops at nothing less himself.
  
  Even though I am not a current student (Dec. 2017 Grad.), I feel that Dr. Ingle will be my forever instructor and advisor. I can call him, email him, even schedule an appointment to talk about what I want to do next. He is honest and reliable. He is not afraid to tell a student the truth but will help you way above what is expected from a university professor. When I first met Dr. Ingle, I was very intimidated and chose to stay as far away as possible. However, throughout my program, I saw the department go through tremendous change that really could have negatively impacted a number of students. Dr. Ingle stepped up and took the load. He did the same for me. I just met with him last week to discuss what it means to publish a dissertation. We met the next day. He is not your normal professor and I would love for him to be acknowledged.

By taking Professor Jaggers’ class, I have really learned the proper ways to study and prepare myself for exams. My self-confidence level in the classroom has definitely gone up tremendously because of him. He makes sure that no one feels stupid for asking simple questions, unlike some professors. Because of him and this class, I have fallen in love with my major, and I am very excited for what the future holds.

He takes time to answer questions and recently followed up with an email and news article on a topic that we were discussing. Although all professors should be like this, we know that they are not. Educators such as this are special and are a reason I am proud to be a Cardinal.

  Dr. Karcher's teaching style is the post productive and efficient method I have ever experienced. I have had her for two semesters, and not only does she teach effectively in the classroom, but she is always available in her office, and more than willing to help students, not only reach an answer, but understand why and how that answer was reached. She goes above and beyond the role of a professor and helps students think about, and plan for, their future. Last semester, Dr. Karcher informed us about a scholarship, that I had no idea was available to us. I applied, and ended up receiving the scholarship, and I am forever grateful to Dr. Karcher for it and her continuous efforts to better the lives of her students. I have learned so much from Dr. Karcher, and I wish I could learn everything I need for my career from her, because I know she makes every effort to ensure that her students succeed. The more eager I am to learn, the more excited she gets to teach, and I think that's typically an attribute that is hard to come by in professors. I believe she truly loves seeing students learn, not just make a decent grade, and her actions show that. It's safe to say that Dr. Karcher is the best professor I have had, or will ever have, in my academic career.
  
  Professor Karcher is an amazing professor. She genuinely wants all of her students to succeed. Professor Karcher had an amazing availability outside of class, was very prompt with returning emails and always took time to cover topics thoroughly. The class she teaches, Accounting 302: Intermediate Accounting, is very fast paced with some difficult material to cover in the allotted time frame. She helped students by adding many additional resources to study from on Blackboard. I feel like she went above and beyond my expectations of a typical professor in any department and deserves to be recognized for outstanding effort in helping her students succeed. I wish her the best in retirement and want her to know how much I appreciated having her in class.

  I have taken Dr. Kimbell two or three times online throughout my college career, and she has been one of the most amazing professors I've ever had. She's extremely organized, very responsive and very helpful for any and all questions you may have. I love that she has everything available from the start of class so you can work ahead and not get behind. She also has her students go to the writing center twice for a grade which is very, very helpful for your papers. Because of her, my writing has improved tremendously, and I now visit the writing center weekly with reviews on my papers. She is a wonderful person and professor and truly cares for her students.
  
  Prof. Kimbell is an inspiration. Every assignment contributed to my knowledge of how to succeed after graduation. The papers written for her class will assist in building my portfolio to begin my career. Her encouragement and constructive criticism have made me a better writer.

  She is my favorite instructor for this semester. The class starts at 8 a.m. but I never once fall asleep in the class. Her lecture speed is not too slow that makes it boring but not too fast that students may miss something. She always encourages class participation and any kind of questions. She gives encouragement both when your scores are high or low.
  
  Ms. Kline is always open to help any individuals at anytime and place. She is also an amazing teacher who tries to help all of her students understand the content to succeed. Ms. Kline also communicates with students clearly, fairly, and often. I would highly recommend her to any students!
  
  Audrey was a great professor and helped me out in a big way outside of class when she had no obligation to do so.
  
  I LOVE Ms. Kline, she's so helpful and truly wants to help her students understand all the material throughout the class. She has helped me better understand economics by meeting me many times after class and going over the subject.
  
  What defines a great professor? I would argue that being great does not consist of always bringing the best teaching technique. Rather, being a great mentor.   Dr. Kopechek is a past professor and current employer of mine. I work in his Theranostics Ultrasound Lab on multiple projects he has going. Not only is Dr. Kopechek one of the best people I've met since being in Louisville, but also the most hardworking and inspiring. Since day one in the lab, Dr. Kopechek has pushed me to be my best at all times, pushing me towards things that will further my career someday. When I decided on going to medical school, Dr. Kopechek immediately started brainstorming all the ways he can help me get there to fulfill my dream. Some bosses want to know what you can bring to them while Dr. Kopechek mainly focuses on how working in his lab can help you. This is something I will forever be grateful for. Alongside his motivation for me, is his motivation for himself. He is one of the most hard-working people I've come across on this campus. In between balancing multiple projects in the lab, he is often applying for new grants, writing manuscripts, letters of recommendation for people, or finding new collaborations to expand his learning. When he leaves the lab for the day, he almost always works from home. This makes him reachable at most times during the day, which is great. Dr. Kopechek always has things back to me in a timely manner, something not all professors do. I often find myself wondering how Dr. Kopechek manages it all, but he always does. On the flip-side of being hardworking, Dr. Kopechek is one of the most humble people I've come across also. He is a great role model on how to be successful and humble. He does not get the recognition he should for the amount of work he puts in to the students of UofL and the school itself. I cannot express my gratitude for how much the opportunity to work for Dr. Kopechek means to me. I cannot think of a single more deserving person for this recognition.

  Koven's attitude about the subject she teaches speaks for itself. Her lectures provide me with inspiration and challenge the ideas I believe so strongly. Bringing new material and important questions about the structure of our society, the systematic inequality, and going further to ask us what we can do to change these inequalities, make Koven an admirable and inspirational professor. The discussions I had with her in and out of class always challenges critical thinking and analysis of subjects we may not always want to think about. Her passion is evident in her teaching style, as her exasperation and expressiveness in the classroom help to paint her dedication to educating people on issues that matter. This was my first semester at UofL, and with a great professor like Koven, I am more than hopeful and excited for the other professors I will encounter, who will not only educate me, but challenge me to grow as a student and a human being.

  For reference I am completing the MS CS program via distance, and this was my last semester. After working with Dr. Lauf over this past summer on an independent study, he was my first choice as advisor for the MS project course. Compared to the other instructors I've had at UofL during my graduate program, I can honestly say Dr. Lauf easily stands out among them as an all-star professor. Throughout the semester, Dr. Lauf was an excellent mentor and advised me on my studies in a way that was motivating while still giving me the freedom to perform my own academic exploration. Additionally, he was always available to help with anything I had, sometimes sending emails well into the night, and he had no trouble sharing his expertise. I truly appreciated having Dr. Lauf as an advisor, and it is my pleasure to recognize him as a favorite instructor this fall semester.

His Global Economic Issues class takes a fresh approach to the world's biggest problems, and I have learned so much. He marries theory and applicability beautifully. UofL is incredibly blessed to have him.
  
  Dr. Lennon is the most helpful, appreciative, practical and kind professor I have had at the university. He makes himself accessible to his students as much as possible and never turns you away if you need help. He encourages his students to extend their university participation beyond the classroom through beneficial reading groups and coordinates informative speakers for his students and all of the College of Business. Dr. Lennon has worked tirelessly, from my personal experience in senior capstone, this semester to give his students an enjoyable semester regardless of the hard work and effort needed for his class. He has constantly encouraged us to exceed our personal expectations by giving information on opportunities we can seek through hard work. Although there is not really a “bad” professor, Dr. Lennon stands out among the faculty I’ve experienced in the best ways and deserves to have his efforts and teaching style recognized!
  
  Dr. Lennon is an exceptional professor in the ways that he is able to connect challenging economic principles to individual interests and present-day issues. I have him to thank for my renewed interests in my economics degree this last year. I will continue to encourage fellow students to take more economics courses and always recommend Dr. Lennon for a mentor and professor.

  Dr. Longerbeam is a fabulous addition to our department. After seeing the impact she's made on us within just a year, I can only imagine where she will take the program from here. I am beyond excited to head on a Service Learning trip to Trinidad and Tobago with her and my peers. Dr. Longerbeam is by far the most compassionate and caring person I have ever met. She fills me with confidence and always reminds me to practice self-care. I feel blessed to have met her and will continue to have a relationship with her after I graduate this coming May.

  Dr. Lorenz is definitely one of the best professors I've ever had the privilege to learn from. Although the material was daunting to many of us in the Public Health program, he prepared his material in a very organized way and made all of his lectures available online to be accessible at any time. During class he gets very passionate about the subject at hand, which makes class time engaging and the topic interesting. He is truly an inspiration because I always considered myself "not a math person,” but only through his class have I actually discovered how powerful analyzing data can be and how much I enjoy statistics. It takes a certain person/professor to help a student discover a hidden liking for a subject they used to "hate." I owe a large amount of my positive experience in learning this semester to Dr. Lorenz, and he deserves this award so he realizes how much of a difference he makes every day in the classroom.
  
  I am not even sort of close to being talented at math, but Dr. Lorenz is one of the few professors I've come across that has the gift of being able to really transform the material into something understandable, fun, and exciting. I'm glad this program gives us two semesters with him.
  
  He teaches one of the most difficult courses in my program, but he comes to class so well prepared that his simplistic explanation makes it look easy. He painstakingly explains over and over again and still completes the materials scheduled for that day.

She brought us in snacks almost every day, which was the cherry on top of a truly wonderful class! She is an amazing professor.

I have personally had some lackluster experiences with the Management Department but he redeemed it in my opinion. Great professor!

  Prof. Marcosson has taught us constitutional law this semester and always makes the seemingly dense material relevant and engaging. He takes great effort to be available to his students for questions and deeper discussions of the topic. Prof. M also does a good job to stimulate open discussion of what are controversial partisan topics. I am thankful to have him here at our university!

He deserves this award more than anyone else. Truly a fantastic professor!
  
  Professor Masters was the kindest, most interesting professor I have ever had. He truly cared whether or not we understood the material, and he was so excited to be teaching it that it made for a more engaged classroom dynamic.
  
  Dr. Masters has been, so far, the greatest professor I ever had. His knowledge, and the different ways to teach to be sure the students know the topic, goes beyond everything. I am learning, and I know it is hard, but Professor Masters always is available to help and give each student the time and extra activities to be sure himself that we the student do not have any more doubts. Professor Masters loves his career and shows constantly the passion for teaching. Hope many other professors can imitate Dr. Masters. He deserves the award!

  I have been experiencing some issues at my practicum placement but did nothing about them until I realized my manager was not going to pass me. At that time, I reached out to my assigned worker but got no response. Mr. Tony Helm referred to Ms. Lynetta Mathis. Lynetta called me late on a Friday evening while I was driving in traffic and had my barking dog with me. In other words, she had every reason to be short with me; my situation was a tad chaotic initially. On the contrary, Ms. Mathis was very professional, polite, understanding, and most of all, patient. She waited until I parked, took the time to listen, followed-up with appropriate questions, weighed evidence from both sides, expressed empathy, made a decision, and took immediate action in an effort to resolve my problem. I could stay at my original practicum placement, be miserable another semester, and chalk my internship up to just another of life’s bad experiences but, with Ms. Mathis’ help, I had no need to. As I explained my situation to her, I immediately recognized her focus was on me and my education. Her primary concern is that I be part of a good learning environment. I believe the action she is taking regarding my circumstances demonstrates her dedication to University of Louisville’s education system. She exhibits character that it's not enough to just get through school, she does her best to make it an enjoyable and edifying experience. I also need to address the efforts of Mr. Tony Helm. He has maintained a very professional and friendly attitude despite this additional urgent re-placement matter. His expertise regarding the practicum program has been a tremendous comfort and help for me. His immediate responses and guidance helped me determine a workable plan in which I can move forward. Under these circumstances, I would like to submit a request for two favorite faculty nominations. I truly hope Mr. Helm and Ms. Mathis win this award and are celebrated profusely. You may believe they are merely doing their assigned duties and yes, I would agree. However, I would like to add the fact that, for me, both of them make the difference between merely getting through school and learning from it. I believe this is the goal for the award, correct? I am so glad they have come to my rescue and are currently working to help me get a good education. I am also very pleased I am a part of your student body. In my opinion, University of Louisville really rocks!

  Professor Maynard covers some of the more tedious subjects in the entire law school course-book, however, he is able to approach each subject with such enthusiasm that his students can't help but be captivated. He displays an impressive understanding of all the material he teaches, but perhaps more impressively, he is able to craft perfectly understandable responses to any question that he might encounter in the class. He has a way of tying all the concepts together and presenting them in a way that is inherently understandable, add in his many pop culture references and relatable examples, and he has created an environment where his students are eager to hear what he has to say each and every day. Aside from his control of the classroom, he is a teacher who clearly cares about the students that he teaches, and makes no quarrel about setting aside the time it takes to address any issues they might have.

Whenever there is a class I need to take in psychology, I always look to see if she is teaching the course. I truly enjoy her teaching styles, and she deserves this nomination fully.

  Professor McNeal is an amazing professor who brings the classroom to life with lively discussions surrounding core issues in today's society. She is not only an amazing professor but an amazing mentor as well. Professor McNeal is someone you can count on no matter what the situation is and she will be there for you. Along with all of her personal and professional obligations, she remains accessible and always has a positive outlook on life. I am nominating Professor McNeal to be recognized because she doesn't just talk the talk but walks the walk.
  
  When I think of Professor McNeal, three words come to mind: ingenuity, dedication, and compassion. She consistently finds ways to connect our doctrinal courses to real-world issues, sometimes creating whole seminars out of them--even if that means she has to design a course book from various books and articles, fosters a unique learning environment that both engages students and welcomes them, and somehow she still finds time to remember our passions and help us reach our goals. For example, she recalled that I was the education access fellow for the Brandeis human rights advocacy program, and asked me to help her co-author a chapter on truancy and its role in the school to prison pipeline. Professor McNeal did not need my help--that area is one of her many areas of expertise, but she always lifts as she climbs. It is just who she is. She has been an informal mentor to me and many others and is an invaluable member of the Brandeis School of Law family. In addition to her incredible expertise and warm demeanor, she is always on top of technological trends in education, which creates an always accessible classroom and learning platform. Finally, she is one of the most dedicated educators I have ever encountered. I have literally watched her teach as her younger brother passed away during one of our classes, as well as through health challenges. She puts her students first. My law school experience was significantly enriched because of her. It is with great enthusiasm that I nominate her for this award/ designation.

  I had the pleasure of taking the course, Cultures of America, with Dr. Mercer online. This is not my first online class, but it was by far one of the best. The way the coursework was set up made learning engaging and obtainable. Spending three weeks on each lesson gave me the opportunity to absorb the material and not just get a grade. By using lectures, Dr. Mercer provided an avenue to connect with her that other online courses don't allow. The passion for her work was apparent from her lectures. Using blogs through the course, I believe, gave me a platform to voice my perception of what I learned in a way I don't think I would have, had it been a traditional classroom setting. I was able to use subject matter learned from this course to converse outside of the online environment as well. Dr. Mercer let it be known that she was always available for more assistance if needed. She also used her personal life to give examples in some cases which only further provided a connection between her and her students. I can't say enough good things about this professor but would like to thank her for this invaluable online course experience.

Even when I don't actively have him in a class, he is still there for me for professional guidance, advice, and networking. I tell every new social work student that they absolutely have to take Professor M and that they won't regret it.

  Dr. Mitchell has gone above and beyond as a first-year Assistant Professor. She is an alumni of UofL--having earned her Master’s and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology here. She has come full circle and is now a faculty member in the ECPY Department. She was given the daunting task of teaching two sessions of Assessment-I her first semester, and her second semester had an enormous class for Assessment-II. She approached each challenge with grace, determination, and poise. As a student, this meant that while she had mounds of psychological reports to grade, lessons to prepare for, assessment materials to coordinate distribution of, a new University and College to navigate, etc., she took time to hear the students' concerns, made adjustments when possible, explained situations that were beyond her control and supported students to meet the learning objectives. Each of us are now prepared for our Assessment Practicums and as a professional because of her efforts. Outside looking in, her students knew she had a lot of hurdles to overcome--the sheer volume of grading due to multiple classes/large class sizes, the frustrations associated with limited assessment materials, potential challenges associated with being a new faculty member, other limitations and/or expectations, etc.--she never put any of this on us. Rather, she worked diligently behind the scenes, never so much as mentioning her long hours or tedious efforts. Her students showed up to class where we were taught in such a way that even the most challenging and new concepts made sense, and if they didn't, she was a phone call, email, or office visit away! In my many classes at UofL, I can say that Dr. Mitchell is one of the best professors I've had and hope that she is celebrated for her hard work and dedication to the Department, College, and University, but perhaps most importantly, her students!
  
  Dr. Mitchell is creative and engaging in her instruction style, which maximizes student learning. Her classes are not only interesting, but challenge students to think critically and grow as a professional. Also, Dr. Mitchell demonstrates compassion and genuine interest in her students; she is truly student-centered in everything she does! She supports students by attending conferences, making time to meet with students, responding promptly to emails, and being present on campus.
  
  Dr. Mitchell is an amazing professor in the Counseling Psychology program. She really puts the students first and takes and adjusts to student feedback more adeptly than any other professor I have encountered. The best part about Dr. Mitchell’s courses is the way she includes multicultural considerations into every lesson and lecture. She has done a tremendous job to prepare me to conduct psychological assessments, and she is a fantastic addition to the Counseling Psychology program at UofL.
  
  This was Dr. Mitchell's first semester teaching here. She was responsible for teaching a traditionally very difficult course, and we were constrained by supply limitations. Dr. Mitchell handled every obstacle with grace, and she helped us all grow and learn. Before the beginning of the semester, I had heard how terribly difficult this class was going to be and how much others have disliked it. However, Dr. Mitchell, though it was a tough course, you found a way to help all of us find understanding and learn to find interest in the topic. She was amazing!
  
  I've learned more in Dr. Mitchell's class than any other I've taken. Her class discussions push the students to actually dissect the information and then put it to use in their therapy dyad.

  Dr. Mitchell is extremely dedicated to the School of Nursing and is a fabulous teacher. She is the most knowledgeable teacher I have had throughout my four years of college, and I hope to be half the nurse that she was. She constantly kept me encouraged and motivated throughout nursing school. She is extremely dedicated to everything she does and each and every one of her students. You can tell she loves to teach, and she is very good at lecturing. The classes she taught were the ones I actually enjoyed going to. The School of Nursing would be lost without her.
  
  Dr. Mitchell goes above and beyond to teach us a wide range of topics. She makes six-hour lectures go by fast, and you walk out of the room feeling prepared to take your exam right then. Dr. Mitchell has been the most influential person in my college career, and I owe a majority of the knowledge I have to her.
  
  Dr. Mitchell is a phenomenal teacher who deserves this award every semester. Dr. Mitchell understands how students think and tries to the best of her ability to help us understand her content. She is great at teaching test-taking skills when you know the information but missed the question due to unused test-taking strategies. She is a great mentor and educator.

If a student is late, he makes sure that the student got into the sign-in sheet, even though he wasn't there when it was passed around. He hosts a “Wellness Wednesday” that he personally pays for that focuses on taking care of yourself and your body by teaching healthy lifestyle choices. He is invisible to the University but he takes care of the students inside and outside of the theater. He is easily one of the best faculty members UofL has ever had.

Furthermore, he is a dynamic lecturer but often takes the roll of dynamic facilitator opting to let us, the students, work it out and providing guidance along the way.

Most importantly, he creates a welcoming learning environment making me comfortable to communicate. His "independent thinking, open-ended style" of guidance intimidates me sometimes as I come from a background where education is more like spoon-fed than working on your own, however, it has made me work harder putting forth more effort. I look forward to the next two years of my Ph.D. and hope to continually learn new skills and ideas from him.

  I didn't do very well on the first exam. Afterwards, he took the extra effort and told me what I needed to improve on, which helped me not only pass the class but gain a better understanding of the material. His teaching style helps the students learn by focusing on the concept and allowing the students to reach the conclusion. He understands the perspective of the students and tries to cater to each student’s preferred learning style, assuming you go to his office hours. He remembers students’ names and engages in everyday conversations with them.
  
  Professor Rasipuram really cares about his students. He is willing to take time out of his day to answer students’ questions, and the way he formats his classes is perfect. Rather than glazing over information, he stops to ask questions and ensure students are following along. I'm excited to be able to take classes with him in the future.
  
  Everyone loves Dr. Rasipuram! He cares so much about his students and really wants them to understand the concepts, but he also loves talking to them about anything you could think of. His door is always open for students to ask questions or to just have a chat! He builds great friendships with everyone in the department.

Without her expertise and guidance, I never would have been able to engage with my writing at such a deep level. So many of the opportunities I have been blessed with this semester are a direct result of Caitlin's expertise in different genres, positive outlook on life, and perseverance in the face of difficulties. Although Caitlin lives with a rare disease, she somehow finds the strength to make my life easier almost every day. I can't thank her enough for all that she has done for me, and I wish her the best in life.

  Liza is such a thoughtful and thorough professor. She comes into class so energized and wants us to actually learn. Liza helps us to think critically and find solutions to everyday problems. I have learned and applied so much of what she has taught in the classroom to my everyday life on the rowing team. By explaining concepts in an interactive way, she captures my attention so I never feel the urge to look at my phone during class. Liza is willing to go out of her way to help you excel as a student. She demands a lot from us and has high expectations for us. I love how she structures her class and she makes it so individualized. Liza is so intelligent and really wants the best for the students. I have loved being her student because of her up-beat personality and her style of teaching. She is by far my favorite professor here at UofL because she genuinely cares about us. After every Thursday class, she reminds us, "Have a safe weekend, don't do drugs, stay warm!"
  
  Prof. Reader is perhaps the best professor I have had when it comes to teaching in a way that I understand. No unnecessary jargon, but enough detail to allow for deep comprehension. I cannot wait to take further classes with Liza.

  Aaron has been my academic supervisor for all four years of my tenure in the Urban and Public Affairs Ph.D. program. I am his first GRA but you would never know it based on how well he has mentored me. While I was, of course, there to provide research assistance to him, he made it clear from the start that he was there to ensure my success getting through the program AND to assist as much as possible in preparing me for a position in academe if that was my goal. He has always responded quickly and deftly when I have needed assistance with my studies. He has provided expert advice and instruction in bringing my academic writing up several notches in quality. He has always treated me more like a colleague than a student or assistant by actively including me in his research projects and pushing me to write--some for which I have won awards. His mentorship and collaborative nature has contributed to our mutual development of a fruitful new area of research for both he and I in public sector practice in pursuit of justice and equity. She taught me the most valuable legal skills I possess, and I can honestly say I have learned more with one year of Shelley, than I have the rest of my legal/law school career.

This class is NOT a walk in the park, but Dr. Shields truly cares about every student. He knows our names and will always stay after class if we need help. He pushes the students to critically think and think in ways most of us never have before. I for one am so thankful I had him this semester.   I am a soldier, and I attended the CFDC program for the Master’s in HEA. I thought the course was just another waste of time until I met Dr. Shuck. I was not going to pursue anything further after the summer. Dr. Shuck inspired me to reach new limits and don’t give up. His teaching method in class was some of the best instruction I have ever received in my 24 years in the military. It’s professors like Dr. Shuck that makes UofL the school it is. I am now scheduled to receive my Master’s this spring. I am proud and humbled that I have met people like Dr. Shuck. I know I am not the only soldier or civilian who has been inspired by the instruction of Dr. Shuck.
  
  Dr. Shuck had an excellent course working us through our Lit Reviews! I learned so much that I never expected to pick up this late in my doctoral studies.

I wish I was able to be in more of her classes because she makes class enjoyable and provides a welcoming environment overall. She should definitely not go unrecognized for her great work!

We played jeopardy to answer questions, did lab assignments and had class discussions to make learning more interesting. Our visit to the Frazier Rehabilitation Institute was very interesting and made me love what we were learning about even more. She told me she could also help me with the interview process if I applied to work at the rehabilitation center which would be a big help. I’ve been working at UPS the last three and a half years on night shift, and I’d love to be able to work somewhere else instead so I would be able to be on a regular shift schedule. Daniella is a great teacher and shows that she really cares about her students.

They proposed that our class continue to meet in the following semesters so we can keep up our community and learn from each other’s experiences. Additionally, she always ensured the class was well informed on deadlines and what was expected throughout the course. I wish all of my instructors shared her dedication.

Not only does he manage to keep the classroom lighthearted while pushing us students in the group discussions to better understand the texts, but he's gone above and beyond to help us improve our writing this semester. Furthermore, he has been fantastic help as a guide during my first steps through starting my senior honors thesis.
  
  Whatever I write here truly won't do Dr. Turner justice. Simply put, Dr. Turner is the best professor at UofL. I say this not to be hyperbolic, but because I have never had a professor who is as invested in the courses he/she teaches and sincerely motivated to see his/her students succeed. A testament to that is just the sheer number of students who choose to take another course with him. He is on another level of intelligence, but that has never hindered him from breaking down the material in a way that beginners or people not as familiar with the topic should be able to understand. He is always encouraging and will never make you feel "dumb." Instead, he will redirect your thinking to a more salient feature of the text and prompt you to (as cliché as it sounds) "dig deeper." From personal experience, this has helped me refine my thought process and the ways in which I analyze the texts we read. Lastly, he takes the time to give individualistic, detailed feedback on papers/assignments that have not only helped me become a better writer, but also, thinker. Overall, it has been a privilege to have Dr. Turner as a professor.
  
  Excellent class management organization. Well-designed syllabus mixing source materials, scholarly research and critical writing. Writing skill development was designed not only to satisfy the particular requirements of the liberal arts, but also the broader needs of professional written communication. As an "older" student who has experience in a professional/non-academic career, I know firsthand the value of this skill set. Joe Turner expertly blended all of these elements into a wonderful class experience. He did this in a large class setting (35+) with a mix of major and non-major elective students. All assignments were graded in a timely manner, and he was available to work on an individual basis with any student in the class.
  
  Dr. Turner makes Chaucer come alive, which is impressive considering how long he’s been dead. His lectures are theatrical at times, poignant at others, and always engaging and informative. He truly cares about his subject and his students.
  
  Professor Turner made the learning of Middle English and Chaucer fun. He encouraged exploration of different themes within the tales. He also set time aside to help his students talk through their ideas. I personally feel that this was one of the best classes I've had in my time at UofL. Most of what contributed to my enjoyment of the class was Prof. Turner's teaching style. He managed to find the perfect balance between discussion and lecture. He managed to provide a productive space for ideas to be shared, as opposed to a judgmental area that is unfortunately found in many English classes.

If I had to pick one though, I would hands down choose, Professor Joe Turner. In many ways, Professor Turner exceeds at his job as an educator. What makes him stand out from the other professors that I have had is the fact that he keeps in touch with you even if you are not taking one of his courses that semester. He makes sure you are doing okay and always offers advice or help. I have taken several courses with Professor Turner, and he goes over and beyond for his students. He not only makes sure you are keeping up with the material, he makes sure you know he is always there if you fall behind. Professor Turner is always available if you have any questions, and he is always willing to make time to meet with you to go into further detail to ensure that you understand. He is not only a great professor who knows the material he is teaching, but he genuinely cares about his students and his job. Even on semesters that his students are not in his class, he makes it known that if there is anything we need that his door is always open and to never hesitate to come to him. I have never seen or had a professor so committed to making sure his students succeed. He brings out the best in you and influences you not only to be a better student but to be a better version of yourself. I have a deep respect for Professor Turner and am forever grateful for always helping me when I needed it. He never made me feel like I was a burden or that he is too busy to help. If you ask me who my favorite professor is in the four years I have attended a university, Professor Joe Turner has gone beyond my expectations of what qualities a professor should have. He has definitely set the bar high for future professors. Thank you, Professor Turner, for everything!
  
  Professor Turner is one of the best English professors I've ever had! He explains things so well and carefully. It really seems like he cares about his students, and his classes are so fun and interesting. I feel like we get to know each other and just have a good time talking about books instead of it being a mere lecture. He's really smart and a difficult grader but I like that because he is clear on how to improve, and he is really helpful and accessible in office hours all the time.

  Dr. Turner is the epitome of humble professionalism. She teaches in such a beautiful, clear, and concise way. The School of Nursing does not yet have a simulation mannequin that is able to give birth. Dr. Turner could have taught us intrapartum nursing skills by assigning videos and worksheets. Instead, this Doctorate of Nursing Practice superwoman pretended to give birth 20 times for 20 different groups of students. I learned so much during this simulation, and I am grateful for the experience. I am privileged to have professors who are willing to humble themselves for the sake of my learning.

Dr. Wagner encouraged us to study abroad, attend Spanish film festivals, along with various other activities that would develop our understanding of a new language and become appreciative of a culture different from our own. This is encouraging and comforting due to the events occurring in our country, so to know that there is someone on campus who cares about diversity and different regions is heartwarming. She is an all-around great person, and I hope that she continues to teach here at UofL for years to come so she has the opportunity to inspire others as she has inspired me.

The quote at the bottom of the instructions for the last assignment, “You are no longer innocent. You are condemned to awareness.”--I certainly do not feel condemned so much as grateful.

  I would like to say something very important that we can all learn from Pete Walton and how he impacted me. First, Pete has a creative and decorative mind, and as we all know, very opinionated and thinks outside of the box. This is something to admire all in itself. The method of teaching his Capstone class was not perfect, however, he was on the track to teaching students learning through critical thinking, emotion and experience, and I believe this is a very important component that is missing from education, so please keep this in mind and keep this alive. I came to Pete’s office my junior year of college very frustrated at the way his class was structured and concerned with the way he wanted us to do things. When I came to his office, he sat with me for two and a half hours and listened to me about my project, my frustrations I had with him, my concerns I had about my decision to pursue public health. At the beginning of our session, I cried to Pete explaining my stresses and depression I had been going through since first coming to Louisville. Pete offered that I call him every day or as much as I needed to just so I could tell him about my day and to feel some sort of support. I don't know about you, but NEVER has a professor in my college career, out of the three colleges I have attended, offered something so selfless and valuable. I never did call Pete to inform him about my days and how my depression was coming along, but I will never forget the vulnerable and kind gesture he made to me. That type of work is not in his job description, yet he was compassionate enough to care and that is what makes good professors and good people. So, farewell to Pete, you will be missed at the University of Louisville, and I wish you a gentle, sarcasm-filled happy life :) This is actually very cliché but stay true to yourself. We need more people like you in our world!

This is an initiative, and Dr. Washington himself, is a force to be reckoned with.   Dr. Washington is a wonderful professor. He challenges students to think outside the box and not be afraid to express our ideas. He cares about students actually learning and provides an atmosphere to do so. He cares about our well-being and helps us find resources to help us further our scholastic careers.
  
  Dr. Washington is dedicated to the success of the school counseling and counselor education programs at UofL. He challenges his students to grow and human helpers and as humans, and he seems to be always available to help students in need. Dr. Washington has been an exceptional counselor educator as he has helped me prepare for my transition into my professional career. He encourages students to think critically and to elevate the profession of counseling for the betterment of society.

He never makes me feel dumb even when I ask very dumb questions. I have so much appreciation for him, and I hope to take many classes with him in the future.
  
  Professor Wildstrom is phenomenal. Every lecture was riveting, and he was incredibly available outside of class. It was not uncommon to get pages of an emailed response from him in regard to questions I had. Really nice, very competent guy.

The only thing he is more passionate about than writing is people, and he is always there to lend a helping hand, offer advice, or just listen to you vent your college stresses. Not to mention, he always seems to have an interesting metaphor for any situation. As a first-year MA English student, I have enjoyed learning from and working with such a fantastic, compassionate, and enthusiastic individual.   Dr. Williger is one of those unique professors who actually looks at things from a student's perspective. He understands the difficulties his students will face upon graduation and constantly works to help his students avoid or overcome those difficulties. He focuses on preparing his students to get a job or acceptance into graduate school, not just learning the material in his class.
  
  This is my first semester back at university in over 10 years. It goes without saying that returning to earn my MS/PhD and start my second career in astrophysics has been challenging, intimidating, and humbling. I met Dr. Williger in 2015, when I introduced myself as a future PhD student. Since then, Dr. Williger has been a generous, compassionate advisor--even when I was not yet enrolled. In Fall 2017, I took his PHYS 507 Solar System Astronomy course. As a lecturer, he is thorough and engaging, yet rigorous. Dr. Williger dedicates the time after each class and by appointment to his students, which was to my benefit. Rather than providing answers, he encourages us to develop an intuition for how the universe works. He sets the bar high, but his mission in life is to help us reach it. I enthusiastically nominate Dr. Williger for the Faculty Favorite Award!

He's got his own Wikipedia and has one of the highest rating records on Rate My Professors, and yet he's been instructing the "Intro to" for CECS--if that and his hilarious jokes doesn't qualify for favorite teacher, then I must not know what the word favorite means. Hands down, top faculty.
