Khaldoun Almousily
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesHe is by far the best professor on this campus and is well liked and respected. He deserves this award!
Professor Khaldoun makes learning a difficult language extremely enjoyable, and he always made himself available to help students struggling with the content. Khaldoun has an infectious love for the Arabic language and approached each day with an awesome attitude that he tried tirelessly to pass on to his students. I believe he has gone beyond what is expected of him as a faculty member at the University of Louisville, and his efforts have earned him the love and respect of his current and former students.
Khaldoun is an incredible instructor and goes above and beyond to make learning Arabic fun and useful. He is inspiring and encourages us to be aware of the world around us through learning a beautiful language.
Professor Almousily is without a doubt the most engaging professor I have ever had. His passion for the Arabic language is contagious as he makes learning seem easy and fun! It's obvious that he cares deeply about his students. He is an excellent man and a wonderful professor.
This professor genuinely cares about the students, and his passion really motivated me to learn the material. More need to take him!!
Professor Khaldoun is a great professor. He's very patient and always considering all students when teaching. His passion for his class shows in his students and their happiness with choosing in learning Arabic.
Professor Almousily always makes class engaging and well worth my while attending. Arabic is one of my favorite classes, and I intend on going further into the program.
Professor Khaldoun is one of the best professors I've had at UofL. He truly cares about all the students and makes learning a difficult language easy and fun.
Khaldoun is without a doubt the best professor I have had in my time at this university. He genuinely cares about each and every one of his students and makes the class fun. Everyone does so well because he makes learning fun. And absolutely great professor and great guy.
Professor Almousily strives to help his students understand Arabic and eradicate any stereotypes of the language. He also provides his classes with social and political context for Arab speaking countries. So, students not only feel that they are learning a language, but slowly a culture that has been so foreign to them. He teaches Arabic in a way that it becomes casually familiar to us, thus integrated in our lives. Professor Almousily also increases retention rates by always keeping the class in a jolly mood. I always try to come to class even if I am sick, because I know he will introduce funny, appropriate, jokes and keep the atmosphere light.
He is encouraging and works exceptionally hard for his students.
Khaldoun has inspired me more than any human ever has before. It all started after we learned how to ask, "How are you?" in Arabic. One day, he greeted our class by asking, "How are you?" in Arabic. A few people responded, "fine," "good," etc. He then nearly exploded giving a big speech on why all of us should be "excellent," because of the sheer fact that we are miraculously alive and well on this dear planet of ours. His positivity and beautiful outlook on life has been my constant source of inspiration. Not only has he influenced me to become a more positive person, he is ALWAYS providing information on how to get involved, especially with worldly events. He always gives us helpful information and resources for jobs, studying abroad, scholarships, etc. I feel educated, included, and limitless and like the world is just waiting for me to conquer it, all because of him. Not only all of this, but he's just a flippin' phenomenal teacher. He's so passionate, and so dang fun and funny. I never EVER have been in a class where I don't laugh or smile. I am so excited to learn and do life, because of this wondrous professor.
Prof. Almousily has worked himself to death trying to grow a desperately needed, misunderstood, and understaffed program and has done wonders. Students learning the Arabic language and Arab culture is important now more than ever. Prof. Almousily has opened our eyes to the wonders of the Arab world through field trips and study abroad opportunities that allow us to use our Arabic training to communicate with those abroad, as well as disadvantaged immigrants in our own backyard who are always grateful to hear students speak their language and embrace their culture.
Professor Khaldoun is an outstanding professor. He has definitely been my favorite teacher at the University of Louisville because of his love for the subject; he personifies an excellent mentor while managing to make class an exciting learning environment. Many students who took him now want to change their major/minor because of how much they genuinely enjoyed his class and learning from such a considerate professor. I, personally, have never been so enthusiastic about learning a language and going to every single class. The professor truly provides every opportunity possible for students to excel. He spends time in class covering job opportunities that can be provided regarding the language we’re learning, sends multiple emails throughout the week of scholarship opportunities, and makes his classroom’s environment remarkably welcoming. I have never met a professor who cares so deeply about his student’s academic career. His brilliant style of teaching reflects his admiration for the subject, and his willingness to make students interested in the subject, and not just memorize it, speaks volumes. Overall, he is such an amazing professor and his name garners enthusiasm among his students when discussing him.
Mr. Almousily is a very engaging teacher. He is very passionate about what he does, and his enthusiasm shows and influences his students. He has taken a subject that is rated as very difficult to learn and made it something as simple as breathing. Every student seems to be excelling. I notice this progress in myself as well as my cohort. There are so many things to be said about the atmosphere of the class and the ability of the instructor to make this information easy to grasp and creating an amazing learning environment.
Professor Khaldoun is truly dedicated to his students. His classes encompass a variety of creative methods to ensure students learn Arabic. One of my favorite professors by far.
Mr. Almousily makes class very comforting and inviting. He is fun, energetic, and easy to cooperate with.
Professor Khaldoun produces an efficient, fun learning environment for all students.
Professor Almousily makes learning Arabic extremely fun and interesting. I do not consider myself very proficient when it comes to learning a language, but this class quickly became my favorite class in college. I hope to continue my studies in Arabic, and it is due to the enjoyment I have for this class as well as Professor Almousily's teaching style.
Professor Almousily has influenced his students in a life-changing way. He teaches Arabic in such a fun and engaging way that makes his students, and anybody who hears him talking about the subject, fall in love with the language and culture. He is always available to help and genuinely care for his students. The Arabic Program wouldn't be what it is without him. Taking this class was one of the best decisions I have made since I got to college, and I can openly say that my classmates feel the same way.
Professor Khaldoun is a kindhearted soul who genuinely wants his students to learn Arabic in the most effective and enjoyable ways possible. He is the type of professor who truly enjoys teaching and would go out of his way to help his students. Every so often UofL gifts its students with a truly exceptional professor. For me, Professor Khaldoun created an environment of learning in his classroom that has helped me grow and prosper. Thank you to the University of Louisville for providing such a wonderful addition to the language program. I hope he's awarded the recognition he deserves.
He deserves this award over any other faculty member. He is not only a professor to his students, but a friend as well. He cares about them. He helps them with future goals and success. He makes learning more than just a classroom experience. He's one in a million and deserves any award and all awards that go his way. He will be one of my most memorable people, not just professor, of all time.
He makes learning Arabic so fun and easy. I never dread going to his class, and everyone has a good time while being in his class!
He's the best professor I have ever had. If there is a reason why I've learned so much Arabic over the span of 12 weeks, it's him. I've never seen such a caring professor, and he's hilarious too. There is a reason why so many people do well in his class.
Professor Khaldoun is an amazing, understanding professor, always willing to help out and improve our skills in Arabic. One of the most understanding and engaging professors I've had in college. He always facilitates understanding of the material and teaches us a realistic application of the language in the real world.
Khaldoun Almousily will be repeatedly referred to as an engaging and encouraging professor, and this is due largely to his generosity in teaching the positive atmosphere of his classes. He has encouraged and helped many students to learn Arabic and apply to programs that advance their education. I am currently studying abroad because of him and owe him a debt of gratitude. This is why he is my favorite instructor.
He's an awesome teacher constantly helping us and finding new ways to make Arabic fun and easy to learn.
Khaldoun Almousily is the best Arabic instructor I have ever had! He does not only teach the Arabic language but he brings the Arab world and culture into his classes. He shares his culture and talks about others, brings delicious Jordanian and Moroccan food--Conversation table--, sings beautiful songs every session and invites guest speakers! His classes are always enjoyable and no student feels anxious of committing a mistake! I learned a lot from him and corrected some false ideas I had! Khaldoun was first an instructor, but we ended up being good friends. He made a change in my life, and I am planning now to extend my Arabic knowledge by visiting the Middle East or North Africa!
Professor Khaldoun is incredible. He teaches the language in a fun and interactive way so that we learn and have a good time. He also teaches us about the culture of different Arabic speaking countries and opens doors to many activities to travel abroad, teach, etc. One of the best professors I have ever had.
He is a great professor!
He made learning Arabic so much fun and hands on. I've never been in a language class where I actually learned how to speak part of the language in such a short amount of time!
Professor Khaldoun has been such an inspiring figure for wanting to continue education in the Arabic field. He never fails to provide encouragement and support as well as propelling us forward with the language. He has always been an open-door mentor and is my point of contact whenever I've had any questions or issues, since I've been at the University of Louisville.
He makes something that seems literally impossible seamless. Professor Almousily is truly one of the most heartfelt and caring educators I've ever encountered. -
Kathryn Harman
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Harman has positively impacted my college career at UofL and inspired me to dive into learning about my major courses. I had her for biomechanics as well as an anatomy/physiology lab, and her teaching style helped me to learn more out of any other professor in college. Her guidance through the year on the curriculum, as well as in college as a whole, was helpful to many students.
Although her classes were tough, she was always willing to explain material twice if need be. I truly feel like I learned more from her than I have any other teacher.
I have had Dr. Harman for two consecutive semesters now, and I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to take another course with her next semester. In all my years of school, I’ve never had a teacher who makes me want to be in class as bad as Dr. Harman does. She makes me love the degree I chose and pushes me to further education in grad school. She has gone out of her way, on her own personal time, to help me create new study habits, helps me to understand material that I am stuck on, and she helps me with any questions I have about future education. I love watching her teach in a lab setting. She isn’t a “robot teacher” who just repeats. . . she adapts to every student without the student even asking for a different method of teaching. She knows because she literally cares about each and every one of us. Again, she makes me love what I do and makes me want to continue doing what I do. She honestly and truthfully deserves this award.
One of the smartest professors at the university and very willing to help any student.
Professor Harman has had a significant impact on my learning. Her extensive knowledge in anatomy and physiology has assisted in my learning and understanding of the human body. In taking such difficult courses, she goes out of her way every class of every course to make sure her students understand the material that is presented. As a graduating senior, she has been one of the most impactful professor I have had during my time at the University of Louisville.
By far the best professor I've had throughout college.
A
Cares about the topics she is teaching and takes hands-on approach in making sure her students do well in her class.
Best professor I have ever had! She always puts in full effort towards this course and made this class interesting to learn about. She was incredibly helpful and would always go out of her way to make sure everyone in the class understands what’s going on. She was clear with her expectations and so awesome for people with different learning styles. So glad I took this class with Kathryn Harman!
She took the time to help us in and out of the classroom and really explained the things we needed help with.
Katie is, without a doubt, one of the best professors out there. The way that she connects with students and works with them to make sure they understand the class material is unparalleled.
Kathryn Harman is an all-around amazing professor. She has made my last semester and one of my most challenging semesters feel like smooth sailing. She is the type of teacher who challenges you at the same time that she genuinely cares about her students' performance. She was always well-prepared for class, attentive/caring about students' concerns and questions, and made for several opportunities for additional help outside of class. She is well-educated and informed about the classes she teaches and always makes students aware of additional outside resources for help too. She is genuine, and anyone can tell she truly cares about her students’ learning. If I had to choose the perfect persona of an educator, Dr. Harman would be it.
She is an amazing human being and an awesome instructor. I don't think I could have been successful in the class I took without her.
Katie is the best professor I've ever had at UofL. The way she teaches Biomechanics makes it so much easier to understand!
Professor Harman has worked with me for the past two semesters, and she has gone above and beyond within her job. She spends countless hours working overtime to make sure we are prepared and will succeed without a doubt. From open labs to countless office meetings, I can't think of a better nominee for this title. She relates to each and everyone one of her students and makes learning the hardest things seem easy. She uses props, makes extra packets, and more until we finally get it. Ms. Harman is awesome and I'm really going to miss her as my teacher!
I had Professor Harman for A&P; lab. She made learning enjoyable and always had a positive attitude. Although the class covered a lot of material that most would say was difficult to learn, she provided many tools to aid in our learning. She was always open to questions and gave her best detailed answer. If any student didn’t understand a concept, she was ready with another explanation to help make the learning process easier. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Professor Harman’s class.
Wonderful professor -
Ahmed Shalaby
Bioengineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Shalaby is the best post-doc ever.
AWESOME!! I love this guy. He's non-threatening, fair, but firm. I learned a lot from him, and he was always thorough and gave perfect responses to inquiries in class.
Dr. Shalaby is a great instructor who cares about his students. Since the class was online for me, I often reached out to him through email, and he responded very quickly answering my questions and problems.
I have learned a lot from Dr. Ahmed, and I am really lucky that he gave me a chance to be one of his students.
I would like to thank Dr. Shalaby for his effort to clarify the presented content.
Dr. Shalaby is very enthusiastic and delivers very good presentations.
I want to thank him for his effort to deliver the content of the course very well!
Really his class was so helpful
Dr. Ahmed is one of the most compassionate doctors in the Bioengineering Department. He has such a passion for machine learning and medical imaging that bleeds over into his teaching. He always seems to take the dry topic that is medical imaging and make it interesting. He always is willing to do what it takes to ensure that every student has an understanding of what we are going over.
Dr. Shalaby was able to teach me a lot about machine learning in medical domain this semester. He was always willing to help no matter the problem, whether it was outside of class or in it. He is really a great teacher and very understanding with a lot of patience. Makes us work hard but encourages and helps us understand concepts and principles. Thank you, Dr. Shalaby!
I am very pleased to nominate Dr Ahmed Shalaby. He is a great professor and is always quick to answer any questions you may have. Flexible, funny, and an excellent teacher. Gave difficult projects and instructive homework. Dr. Shalaby has excelled as a teacher. We received exceptional machine learning in medical imaging that he offered to us. His lectures are always clear presentations of state-of-the-art material, such as the demonstrations of his most recent research advances.
Great! Thanks to Dr. Shalaby.
Thank you! -
John Finch
Early Childhood and Elementary Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentI choose Dr. Finch as my faculty favorite because his course challenged me academically. The work was always meaningful and led to me feeling more prepared to be a future educator. His class is engaging, and there are high expectations for students. I believe he should be awarded the faculty favorite this year.
Dr. Finch is an exceptional teacher. He will go out of his way to be sure all of his students are working hard and always pushes everyone to do their best. He is a great resource and extremely knowledgeable.
Puts thorough feedback into all students' work and is so personable. Challenges us to better ourselves and helps everybody become an amazing teacher.
Dr. Finch really helped prepare me for everything related to teaching/education. He cares so much for his students and will do anything to help them succeed. I know that even when I am graduated and have my own classroom (or even ten years down the road), I could contact him for anything and he would still be happy to help.
I have never experienced learning the way I did during my time in the courses taught by Dr. Finch. He is the hardest working instructor on campus, and I WILL take bets on that. He really cares about his students and the kids that they will be teaching one day. The workload is high, but he gives incredible feedback (best I've ever gotten) and does so in a timely manner. For example, each of his students turned in 80+ page binders that were both typed out, and handmade, and he graded all 20+ in three days, with a detailed rubric, and post-it notes commenting on a large amount of pages. He will answer emails regarding class as soon as he sees them (basically anytime besides 12am-5am). He is the best teacher I have ever had and ever will have. University of Louisville, he is the best teacher YOU have. Show him the love he deserves. If you need any more proof, let me know. I will argue as much as I need to.
He goes above and beyond for all students.
Dr. Finch is hands down the best professor at the university. He is passionate for the program, extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. He deserves this for his hard work and care. -
Emily Schnarr
Management
College of BusinessThis semester was Professor Schnarr's first experience as a professor, and I think she did a great job. She was very attentive, passionate about the class and was always willing to help anyone that needed help. Apart from that, she was funny and a great person.
She provided all the resources to the class in order for us to succeed. She was always available when we needed her to teach us a concept from class. The class in itself is a difficult one, but she taught the class as well as anybody could have.
This was Professor Schnarr's first semester teaching at UofL. She is the best first-semester professor I have had at UofL in my four years of being here. She put 110% effort into teaching MGMT 401 (Operations Management) even while having a full-time job as a plant manager. Her real-world examples from her experience in operations management made the class more enjoyable. Even though the material was often difficult and sometimes dry, she sought to make classes as interesting as she could. She always communicated clearly and had the humility to follow up and correct any mistakes she made. Professor Schnarr also provided us with as many resources as she could to help us succeed, including detailed study guides, additional practice problems, extended deadlines, and personalized feedback. In addition, she challenged us to think. She expected us to be fully engaged in class and asked us lots of questions to help us engage. I could tell that she prepared carefully for her lectures and anticipated areas of confusion that students might have. Professor Schnarr approached teaching MGMT 401 with an attitude of continuous improvement and a desire to do the absolute best she could. Even as she taught us about Lean concepts and the idea of continuous improvement in operations management, she exemplified that mentality in the way she taught the class.
Great instructor! Always very energetic and excited to teach us what she experiences everyday as an operations manager. My favorite class of the semester! Great at explaining confusing topics and always willing to lend a hand.
She was a great teacher, and on top of her full-time job, she was able to teach a very difficult course efficiently.
Emily Schnarr had her first semester teaching this semester, and she did a wonderful job. She was descriptive and good with explaining every concept in this class. She really cared about her students understanding everything. She wouldn't move on to the next topic until everybody understood. She would go out of her way to explain everything and gave this class her all, even though she was really busy working another demanding job, which means a lot as a student. It would make her ecstatic to be recognized for her hard work and caring personality, and I really think she deserves this recognition more than anyone else who's ever taught me.
Very good. Tough, but very good!
She was brand new and worked incredibly hard to teach us. The class was super difficult, but she prepared us very well for the cumulative department final!
Professor Schnarr is an amazing professor! This was her first semester teaching, and she was balancing another full-time job as a plant manager this semester. Despite this, she brought incredible experiences and a passion for teaching to the table. She is one of the best educators I have ever had the opportunity to learn from. She was very relatable all semester and made herself available to us outside the classroom whenever we needed her. I always felt like I could rely on her to quickly get back to me when I emailed her and that she would always make time for my questions. She has built her career in operations management, so she was able to bring a lot of updated, real-world knowledge and experience to the table. I had heard from many friends and peers that operations management is one of the worst/hardest classes they have had to take as business majors. Needless to say, I was REALLY dreading this class in August. Professor Schnarr made the difficult material not as intimidating, and she really brought the material to life. I learned more in this class than I have in almost any class I have taken at UofL. It was hands down my favorite class this semester, and I attribute that totally to the energy Professor Schnarr brought to the classroom! She worked so hard for her students this semester and is one of the most dedicated educators I have ever encountered--she deserves to be recognized!
Professor Schnarr put forth great effort this past semester and demonstrated a sincere desire for her students to learn.
She was fantastic! Very insightful and passionate about the success of her students learning the material.

Lois Abdelmalek
Theatre Arts
College of Arts and SciencesLois is the most passionate and caring instructor that I have had at my time here at UofL. She genuinely cares about each and every one of her students and makes all of them feel at home in her classroom. She is so knowledgeable about what she is teaching and makes learning and going to her class fun. I have enjoyed every minute of having Lois as my instructor.
I am a senior, finishing up my last year at UofL. I put off all of my weird classes to the end, because I was not looking forward to taking them. One of those classes was TA324, Acting for non-majors. In order to graduate, there was no way around it, I had to take it. I am a very introverted person and usually keep to myself, so I was pretty nervous and anxious about this class. However, at about the second week I knew everything was going to be alright because of Professor Abdelmalek. My class is a pretty diverse group of people, from football players and a couple of military guys, to girls who do ballet on the weekends. No matter how different, I feel safe to say that Professor Abdelmalek made us all feel comfortable in our own way. She told us on the first day to not be afraid to act a fool in class because she will be acting like the biggest fool. She encouraged our talents and noticed what our strengths were and brought them out of us every day. She used her resources and brought in a personal friend to teach an improv class which was the funnest class I’ve ever had in the 16 years I have been a student. Professor Abdelmalek took no short cuts in teaching this class. We had a balance of book work and learning the required material and still had as much time as possible to “play” and act. She took the time to send emails to every student after they performed that day to tell us how proud she was of us, our improvements, and made us feel great about ourselves and our work. Even after doing that in class, along with being in the department’s play, Our Country’s Good, rehearsing every day for hours, and memorizing pages of script, she never shied away from class and always gave us her full 100% effort and attention. Even though no one may care because it is only a theatre arts, non-majors class, I wanted to take the time to write this and let the university know that they found a great instructor, and I honestly looked forward to going to class every single day. -
Jamie Abrams
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Abrams is the absolute best part of Brandeis Law School. She is everything you would want as a law student, especially as a first-year law student. Professor Abrams brings such warmth and thoughtfulness into the classroom, which makes it so much easier to want to learn. She has high expectations of her students, but that makes all of the students try that much harder in learning the material to make sure we don't disappoint her. She is the biggest cheerleader of her students. My first semester of law school was made so much better because of Professor Abrams. -
Leslie Abramson
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Abramson is the best embodiment of a good law school professor. He makes classroom learning fun yet straightforward and not a waste of time.
Professor Abramson is always available to talk with students about school and non-school related issues. He is passionate about his job, and it is obvious that he loves his students and wants them to succeed.
Professor Abramson has given me a greater understanding of the federal rules of criminal procedure, as well as a comparison of the Kentucky rules. He makes the subject matter interesting and incorporates fun ways to learn the material. -
Katie Adamchik
Student Success Center
Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student SuccessKatie was a part of the teaching in the ECPY 302 class I was in, and honestly, I cannot thank her enough for helping me get through the semester. She is a wonderful and extremely helpful advisor! -
V. Joshua Adams
English
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Adams is one of the most intelligent, dedicated, helpful, and passionate professors I've ever had. He puts his soul into our course work and understanding of the readings we discuss and tries to not only cultivate not only our skills but also our understanding of humanity. I am very grateful to have had him as a professor and believe he deserves great recognition. -
Brittany Adams-Pope
Equine Industry Program
College of BusinessDr. AP is an asset to the Equine Industry Program and the University as a whole! As students, learning from Dr. Adams-Pope is always interesting. She is able to explain material in a way that, horse people and people that have never touched a horse in their life, both can understand. Her lifetime of experience is priceless and gives her the necessary knowledge to teach us in any aspect of the horse industry, and as the horse industry is evolving, so is her teaching. For example, as new disciplines of riding become more popular, she adds them to the list of topics she teaches about. Dr. Adams-Pope goes above and beyond her responsibilities as a professor. She genuinely cares about her students, their lives, their well-being, and wants them to be interested in, or at the very least, experience what the horse industry has to offer. I came to the University of Louisville from out of state as an Equine Business Major with no specifics about what I wanted to do for a career. In my freshman year here, Dr. Adams-Pope is always presenting what kind of jobs are in the industry and encouraging us to try internships in different areas to see what we like in the industry.
Dr. AP was brilliant, both inside and outside the classroom this semester. Not only did she keep class interesting and fun, but she also took the time to get to personally know her students. She has served as not only a professor for me this school year, but also as a mentor, role model, and friend.
Dr. AP has gone above and beyond her duty as a professor. She has helped me with multiple other classes and the overall adjustment to college life. I know whenever I have any sort of issue, Dr. AP will be there for me.
Dr. Adams-Pope is the most gifted teacher, a great advisor, and trusted friend to all of her students. I have learned so much in the two EQ courses I have attended that are taught by her. The program would truly be nothing without her. She is passionate about what she teaches and cares for all of her students. Dr. Adams-Pope has the student's best interest in mind always and is the most dedicated teacher I have ever had the pleasure of learning from.
Not only is Dr. AP a great teacher, but she is a phenomenal mentor and friend to all of her students. Her door is always open for anybody to stop in and say hello, talk about anything horse related, cry, and have a conversation with. She truly loves and cares for all of her students and has been a great mentor to the riding teams she advises. Dr. AP is someone that all teachers--regardless of what level they teach--should strive to be. I can't think of any other professor more deserving of this award than her.
Dr. AP has been one of the best instructors I have ever had. She engaged everyone in the class, from the students who knew nothing about horses, to the students who were riding them everyday. She made the class engaging and enjoyable to be a part of while also providing an atmosphere ripe for learning. She is also always there for students, and even though I am graduating, if I needed help with something, I think she would put me on the right track and figure out what I needed to do to solve a problem. That is what going the extra mile and what being a college professor is all about; having a love for students and learning in general. -
Meera Alagaraja
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentMeera is an awesome advisor and has worked with me and my crazy schedule for several years!
Meera is an amazing instructor and advisor. She has truly helped me grow in both my capabilities and confidence as a researcher. She continues to help me uncover my own potential through her guidance and encouragement. -
Jack "Trey" Allen
Sociology
College of Arts and SciencesDespite being his first year of independent teaching, Professor Allen put work into the material he presented and engages students by talking about relevant problems with passion and a great knowledge, yet he doesn't revel in his knowledge but takes a stance of humility. Along with this humility, he tries to pull our best efforts out of us without threatening our grades, rather placing importance on the comprehension of the material. This was a fantastic way to earn a dual gen ed requirement and my favorite class this year because of his methods. -
Nihat Altiparmak
Computer Engineering and Computer Science
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringBest teacher one could have. He's completely fair and is adequate in teaching the materials. Though the projects may be difficult, the quality comes from the learning while doing.
Straightforward classes, learned the most in his classes than in any other CECS class I've taken, extremely approachable. -

College of Arts and SciencesAshlock has been such an amazing mentor for me and has been someone I truly look up to over the past few years. She is truly deserving of an award for her positivity and love.
She is a fantastic teacher!
She is awesome and willing to work with us if we have problems. She loves her job, and we can tell in her class. She makes classes fun and interesting.
She's kind, friendly, and an amazing educator. She knows how to engage students in large lectures and uses relevant examples to connect to the content being taught. She really cares about her students and works very hard for their success. -
Ronald Atlas
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Atlas is the best professor I have ever had at the University of Louisville. He truly cares about students and their learning. He makes the subject of microbiology incredibly interesting, and he has reignited my passion for learning and nursing. Dr. Atlas breaks down difficult content into easier concepts for students to understand while still getting his point across. He is always available to students if they are struggling with a concept in the class and really goes above and beyond to ensure student success. After each class, I am so intrigued and interested in our class topics and the way he explains them that I get so excited learning about it, and I constantly tell my family about the next thing I learned in his class. Dr. Atlas has truly had a significant impact on me, my learning, and the start of my nursing career. -
Geoffrey Bailey
Counseling and Human Development/REACH
College of Education and Human Development/Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment and Student SuccessDr. Bailey is so passionate about not only his work but also his students. He literally pours his heart and soul into educating us.
Geoff Bailey is such an accommodating professor. Although he is a total stickler for APA, he is fair with his grading. Geoff is easily accessible, even though he is only an adjunct faculty. REACH and the CSP program are beyond lucky to have his skills, kindness, and student-centered philosophy. I am impressed how quickly he replies to my emails and how frequently he makes time for his students. I also really appreciate his creative teaching approach and willingness to try new things (like letting a student Skype in to deliver a presentation so they could follow through with an interview out-of-state). UofL needs more people like Geoff Bailey. -
Kristin Baisch
School of NursingKristin's first semester teaching at UofL was this fall. She taught us Labor and Delivery class and was really helpful and easy to understand. I felt like she really cared about our education and was putting her best foot forward. I really appreciate her willingness to answer questions, meet up with us, and give us her undivided attention.
As a professor, she opened up and let us get to know her as a person, which you don't see very often. In result, we always felt confident in what we were learning because of her vast experience as a nurse and her willingness to let us in. She created a completely nonjudgmental learning environment, always encouraging us to be our best self and future nurse. She was always kind and extremely positive, and her energy was radiant and would immediately put you in a better mood. She was awesome!
Kristin Baisch is an amazing professor. She explains everything in great detail and uses real-life experiences to contribute to our learning. -
Charles Baker
Criminal Justice
College of Arts and SciencesHe's very nice, funny, understanding, and knows how to teach the class in a way everybody understands.
Online classes are normally super impersonal but just as stressful as on-campus courses. Professor Baker made it a point to send us encouraging messages throughout the term and was easy to reach via email. Sometimes an email from your professor (sent to the entire class) simply telling you to keep up the good work and to keep going and NOT reminding you of an upcoming due date lifts so much weight off your shoulders. Even if Professor Baker doesn't make it into the top, please share with him that his tactics for teaching an online class should be mirrored by ALL online professors. -

Joshua Barnes
REACH--GEN 103/104
Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student SuccessThis professor has truly made me feel more confident in my ability to do well in math and also being proficient at it. He is a professor who truly cares about his students, and because of him, a subject that has always made me feel unintelligent has become one of my favorite. Thank you so much.
He was amazing
His welcoming personality helped me to approach him about my work in Math GEN 104.
Mr. Barnes was an excellent teacher and helped me process in the mathematics field. He truly cares about his students and their educational excellence.
Mr. Barnes is an absolute professional and always makes himself available to students to ensure that they have every opportunity possible to pass his class. What really stood out to me is that he seemed to genuinely care if the students passed or failed which seems to be a lost art among the actual professors at our university. I wish nothing but the best for Mr. Barnes!

College of Education and Human DevelopmentStellar experience with Dr. Bauder across the board. Communication, teaching style, coursework expectations aligned with work presented. Challenging. Thomas Berfield
Mechanical Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Berfield is one of the best professors I have had at UofL. He is very busy with research and other activities, and yet somehow always finds time to help students and prepare extremely helpful materials for class. His kind, patient, and humorous manner make him very approachable outside of class and engaging in class. He explains concepts in a way that makes them easy to understand without acting in a condescending manner at all like some other professors. If I ever have the chance again, I would definitely take Dr. Berfield for another class.
Great instructor! Always motivated and passionate about his class. He always answers the questions of his students with great professionalism. He relates his own experiences with the topics of the classes he is teaching on the day. One class he explained, Pressure Vessels Stresses and Strains, by cooking hotdogs for the entire class, and everyone enjoyed it very much.
He is a very understanding professor who is very bright. He is very good at answering questions that are not even in the scope of the class and is always willing to help to the best of his knowledge. -
Matt Bergman
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentI am writing to support the nomination of Dr. Matthew Bergman from the School of Education's Organizational Leadership and Learning program for the 2018 Delphi Center's Faculty Favorites award based on his ability to mentor students that struggle with issues particular to their personal, professional and academic life. Dr. Bergman is always available and lets you know that he is willing to talk about anything that may stand in the way of a student fulfilling their academic goals. He takes his abilities beyond the classroom and devotes his time to assisting students to apply themselves to the best of their abilities. With the support of Dr. Bergman, I am happy to say I graduated from the Organizational Leadership and Learning program, and now I am pursuing my Master's degree in Human Resource and Organizational Development, which I never dreamed of being possible. Dr. Bergman has supported me throughout my mental health issues and dealing with my bipolar type 1 diagnosis in my undergraduate. He gave me the tools to address these issues in a professional manner that would allow me to effect change in the face of opposition. Dr. Bergman offered his supportive counsel from a mentor perspective when I wanted to drop out of school. He is one of the most excellent examples of an authentic professional in higher education. If it were not for him guiding other students and me through some rough times, I believe we might not be here at the University of Louisville working towards a better tomorrow. It is with great honor that I submit this nomination, not only for Dr. Bergman's support of students with disabilities, but his support and advocacy for all students experiencing hardships. I know of no one more deserving of 2018 Delphi Center's Faculty Favorites award. If he does not win this award, I am sure that he will in the near future, as he works tirelessly to lead students towards academic success.
Dr. Bergman is always available and eagerly helps in any situation. He is very upbeat and enthusiastic about what he does.
Dr. Bergman is committed to making his classes enjoyable for everyone. He is also committed to the success of each student. Dr. Bergman went out of his way to make himself approachable, and encourages students to contact him with questions and concerns. He even adjusted our schedule after talking to a few students and discussing how the schedule could be changed to optimize learning. I have participated in many online classes at three different schools. While Louisville has been my best experience by far, and I am happy to have found a home, Professor Bergman has also stood out. Our Leadership and Management class was the most relatable and interactive class I have participated in. I felt like I was visiting campus. Matt went out of his was to share personal tidbits, such as his newborn, by way of weekly videos, announcements, and updates. He also seemed to grade my work as fast as I could turn it in and addressed any questions or concerns I had within minutes by way of familiar and informal communication, which lends to creating good rapport. I could easily address Dr. Bergman's leadership traits, skills, and style, but I will suffice to say that he has led by example as an exemplary leader. For example, I would generally point out the irony of a communication class wherein my professor wasn't available. That isn't the case with the Doc; he practices what he preaches.
Dr. Bergman is an outstanding instructor for the College. He is supportive, genuine, and caring of each student. I felt secure and safe in his class. His knowledge of the content and topics were in-depth. More importantly, I excelled in his course because he was authentic, and I believed/trusted his commitment and words. I graduate this May, but looking back, I wished I could have worked with Dr. Bergman in other classes. If I come back for graduate studies, I will be looking him up! -

Lee Bewley
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentWhen I first started the Healthcare Leadership program, I was terrified. I had not been a college student in almost ten years and had never taken courses online. Dr. Bewley has been a phenomenal instructor. On countless occasions, he has taken the extra time to answer my questions and explain the course content in a way that was conducive to my learning style. He is a wonderful instructor, and I feel very fortunate to have him for a teacher and mentor. -
Vivian Blade
Management
College of BusinessProfessor Blade is a humble genius in the area of management. With an overly successful career under her belt, she has the ability to teach based on her experiences and encourage her students to be all that we can be. Professor Blade gives her students every opportunity to do well in her class, not because she wants us to receive high grades, but because she wants us to EARN a meaningful education to obtain a desirable career. She is an amazing business woman, professor, and person in general. The University of Louisville’s College of Business is lucky to be able to have her teach just one night class a semester.
She is the most organized and intelligent woman. Love her class. -
Mandy Blandford
Accountancy
College of BusinessProfessor Blandford is absolutely amazing!
I really enjoyed being in Professor Blandford's ACCT 202 class this semester. She made it easy to understand and very interesting too. It was also very clear to me how the managerial accounting practices we learned in class are actually used in the real world. One of my favorite things about Professor Blandford is her experience she brought to and shared in the classroom. She shared stories relating to the material from when she was getting her master’s degree, as well as her experience at Ernst and Young, which I found really helpful when it came to making sense of the material. After taking her class, I wish there was room in my major to take more managerial accounting classes. -
Linda Bledsoe
Kent School of Social WorkDr. Bledsoe goes the extra mile for her students. She is kind and caring and understands that each student is an individual. She works with the students to help them discover their strengths. Even though I do not come to campus, but take all of my classes online, I felt supported and heard throughout the semester. -
Rebecka Bloomer
Kent School of Social WorkThe best teacher I have had in a while. Really takes the time to make you understand. Cares about your success. Makes sure you're okay as an individual also. I was pregnant and honestly she made sure I was always okay. I couldn't have done it without her help . -

Stephanie Boone
Epidemiology and Population Health
School of Public Health and Information SciencesI have wonderful instructors in this university, so it is hard to make one selection, but if I had to choose one, I would choose Dr. Boone. She really pushes all her students to succeed and broaden their way of thinking. She is a very detail-oriented person, which I like, and she gives constructive feedback to students, which I think it's an excellent way to drive attention to how things could be done better. Also, she makes it really easy to connect with her. Thank you so much for all your genuine support and efforts to all your students. -

College of Arts and SciencesShe goes above and beyond to help all of her students.
This teaching assistant provided an excellent atmosphere for my biology lab. She showed extraordinary knowledge and interest in the topics of the course. She was always encouraging of her students, and she made the course very easy to enjoy. She is also a very personable teaching assistant, and I felt she cared about me, not only as a student, but also as a person. It is easy to see that she genuinely enjoys her work and cares for her students, which makes her a perfect example of what an instructor should be. She made the class fun and engaging, while also teaching her students a lot about biology. I believe she is an excellent instructor, and I wish every student at the University of Louisville had the chance to have her as their instructor. -

David Brown
Physics and Astronomy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Brown is one of the most talented instructors that I've ever seen.
Dr. Brown is empathetic, kind, and makes difficult physics a breeze. Every day he comes into class making jokes and just having fun. We enjoy his class so much that everyone is always surprised when the clock says we're done. His confidence in our learning the subject shows all the time and keeps us from being intimidated by such advanced physics. Dr. Brown is also a great listener and inspires a sense of trust over what is said. If a student has problems either in school or out, Dr. Brown will sit down with the student to understand the situation and provide any help he can.
The class was fantastic. The exams were well made and portioned appropriately. The instructor was funny, knowledgeable, and willing to help students. The class material was splendid and made the class enjoyable overall. I would strongly recommend this instructor to any other student. -
Martin Brown
Neurology
School of MedicineDr. Brown is a wonderful teacher and a role model neurologist for all his trainees. He has a deep understanding of neuroanatomy and physiology, which he never hesitates from sharing. He truly cares for his patients, respects them and spends a lot of time listening to their stories. He believes that patient care is incomplete as long as a patient feels he is unheard. In spite of being a busy physician, he spends ample time with his residents, medical students--he tries to kindle their interest and inspires them to pursue neurology. It is essential to honor a physician academician like Dr. Brown, because it is rare to find teachers like him, who hold as much patience, and who care as deeply as he does. -
Reginald Bruce
Management
College of BusinessI had Reg Bruce for a night MGMT 301 class this semester, and I loved his lectures. Very informative, relatable, and inspirational. I have picked up a management minor thanks to his course and hope to learn more about the field from him to be better prepared for my career.
Opened my mind to ways of viewing and handling situations. Encouraged us to see him to review our exams. Offered to give me a ride to final, if I wasn't sure I could make it.
Definitely one of the best professors I've had. He always kept class interesting by showing videos or having relevant lectures on what was going on in the world around us. Didn't just go through slides so it was easy to pay attention and remain interested. Came out to support athletics and encouraged others to do so as well. He was just great. -
Rhonda Buchanan
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Buchanan has an amazing energy that she brings to every classroom. She is an outstanding advisor and truly cares about all of her students.
She is the greatest professor I have ever had.
Professor Buchanan is by far one of the greatest professors I've had the privilege of knowing in all my years of studying at the University of Louisville. She not only has a passion for the subject material, but cares for her students as well. Her energy and smile are contagious, and she knows how to engage her students and make the material come to life. She's visited many places and even met some of the authors discussed in class. Every book mentioned she brings with her, and I think that's part of what makes her inspirational. She's deeply interested in the subject herself--she's done her homework and there's no doubt she probably gives 110% at every goal she sets out to achieve. I had the pleasure of taking both SPAN 404 and SPAN 405 with her and she should be nominated because she stands out by far amongst many.
Provides an amazing study space for her students, fully stocked with coffee, herbal tea, and snacks. One day I had $0 in my bank account and on my student card, and the chips she provided for me was the only food I had that day. It means a lot to me that she cares so much.
She is committed to helping her students achieve the most out of their studies and themselves.
Dr. Buchanan made it fun to learn something new! Her class was never boring! Thank you so much for everything you do!! -

College of Education and Human DevelopmentBrian is awesome and deserves this recognition for his contributions inside and outside the classroom. His mission at this university is to make everyone not only an ally but an advocate and accomplice to all diversity work. Julie Bunck
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Bunck works tirelessly to help her students. Just personally, she helped me with three international scholarship applications (The CLS, which I won, a Fulbright ETA, of which I am an alternate, and a Boren Scholarship). Furthermore, she oversaw multiple senior honors theses and was a third reader for more than 10 others. She is a force to be reckoned with! -
Terri Burch
Equine Industry Program
College of BusinessTerri Burch has made a difference to me in my learning experience by providing for me a solid education about the equine industry and individually acknowledging and helping me (and each of her students) to the best of her ability. She really cares about her students and our futures. She wants us to really learn and absorb the information and go out into the world and make a difference. She has not only helped me learn so much from her classes, but also helped me in figuring out who I want to be after I graduate. -
Jacob Burgdorf
Economics
College of BusinessHe always creates fun and engaging lessons. He is always willing to help students understand even the most basic elements of any problem and makes sure they succeed. Professor Burgdorf helps students enjoy economics, even if economics just really isn't their thing.
In Prof. Burgdorf's classes, he really challenges you to think for yourself and to be able to apply material from class to the real world, not just to spit back memorized definitions. I'm thankful that I decided to take his class because I believe that it really is making me a smarter and more thoughtful person, more capable of critical thinking. Additionally, he is easily available during office hours to answer questions from class or any other economic concept you may find yourself interested in. -
Devin Burke
Academic and Professional Studies
School of MusicDr. Burke had a rough semester in his personal life and still did everything in his power to make class fulfilling and enjoyable. It's not easy trying to stifle grief, but Dr. Burke always did his best to be honest, caring, and present despite the circumstances. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and hope I am lucky enough to take another one in the future. -
Todd Burns
Fine Arts
College of Arts and SciencesTodd has a way of explaining abstract and complex concepts in an easy-to-understand way and not many people can do that as well as he can. He made me love a subject I had not connected with in this way before, and I'm very thankful for his sharing of knowledge, teaching style, and patience as he helped us beginners along. -

Robert Carini
Sociology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Carini was so enthusiastic about this course--from beginning to end--and it really made an impact. The course was heavy in information, but that's how you could tell he deeply cared about the topic! He was kind and listened to any questions we had and made the class fun! I'm very glad to have taken this course! -
Margaret Carreiro
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesOver my four years at UofL, Dr. Carreiro has been one of the most influential and engaging professors I have had the pleasure of learning from. Her successful career and the love she has endeared from students make her more than worthy of recognition. I am forever grateful that I got to be a part of her last class and that she was a part of my final chapter at this university as well.
Global Change Ecology is a course that should be a gen-ed requirement for EVERY student. Even with my pre-med curriculum, we never learn about the real scientific issues facing our daily lives, our lives on this planet. I had a very rudimentary and misinformed foundation of basic concepts like climate change, water pollution, etc. I couldn't answer the question "what has nature ever done for us" and looking back, that is truly a shame (and an embarrassment). I learned more than I could have ever asked for with this elective, and I've become a more conscious, aware, and productive member of society as a result. As Dr. Carreiro is retiring and the elective's future is bleak, I urge the faculty to find a way to keep this class alive because there IS interest! On our last day of class, Dr. Carreiro was brought to tears upon the realization that it was her last time teaching this course. After 27 years of wholeheartedly committing to our student body, I truly believe Dr. Carreiro deserves this recognition. Even so, it would not do justice or show enough appreciation for the long-lasting impact she has had on my life. Dr. Carreiro is truly one of a kind. I think everyone in our class would agree that no one will be able to replace her, nor carry on her legacy with this elective, and it makes me sad for the future students of UofL. It was incredibly refreshing to have an instructor who is extremely passionate about the course content, and it translated to my motivation as a student. Thank you to Dr. Carreiro for pouring her heart and soul into this course because she impacted all of us this semester (and from what I've heard, in semesters past as well). I left every class lecture thinking "Dr. Carreiro for president!!!!" and I will surely miss having her as a professor. -

John Caruso
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentHe is a great mentor. He is passionate about research. I finished my master's thesis research with his instruction and help. I have learned a lot from him and found my passion about research as well. He deserves this award!
Dr. Caruso is by far one of the most influential professors I have ever came across. His aspiration to help all students that come across him shows his true character. I was fortunate to meet Dr. Caruso late in the summer of 2017. He willingly allowed me to be a subject in his NASA based research project, and from there, he has inspired me to do so much. He has shown me the beauty of conducting research, what it means, and how to interpret it. He continues to help me find funding for school, internships, and much more. I would be surprised if you found any professor that compares to Dr. Caruso in the state of Kentucky. It is an honor to nominate Dr. John Caruso as my favorite faculty member.
Dr. Caruso is a great mentor and always enthusiastic to help his students. -
Cara Cashon
Psychological and Brain Sciences
College of Arts and SciencesI had an amazing class with her this semester and last fall. She is a great and enthusiastic teacher. -
Raymond Chastain
Physics and Astronomy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Raymond Chastain is one of the best professors in the Physics Department. Despite his current academic position, he has the maturity of a chair or senior faculty member. Always available, for students both in and outside of his classes, Raymond makes time to counsel, console and even chastise when necessary. I have lost track of the number of times this semester that I have had a problem, either personal or professional which I have brought to him for his consideration. Dr. Chastain, despite working on educational physics, should be given a much more significant role in the Physics Department and deserves every award, honor and benefit that can be appropriated for him.
I had Dr. Chastain for PHYS 298. It is clear that he knows the material and can answer any questions you ask him (class-related or hypothetical) with a great level of detail. He also keeps the class interesting with his interactive teaching style and sense of humor.
I've never had a professor so invested in the learning experience of his students. Dr. Chastain actually makes physics fun and accessible, even if it's not our intended major.
Dr. Chastain is the most engaging professor I've ever had. His passion for teaching is palpable. He has transformed a difficult and potentially dry subject into one that is approachable and enjoyable. He explains topics in multiple ways and takes a hands-on approach to learning that is effective. Dr. Chastain seems to know all of our names (200+ students!) and seeks to pull out the best in each of us. I scheduled my entire semester around one of his classes. He's a must-take! Thank you Dr. Chastain!
Dr. Chastain is the best professor I've ever had. He gets it. He teaches college students the way college students should be taught, and he makes a subject that everyone dreads incredibly enjoyable. I wish he would teach other professors how to teach, because his teaching style is incredible and so effective. He is so kind and always willing to help whenever he can, in addition to providing students everything they need to learn. He pushes students to be greater and has instilled a lot of confidence in me I didn't have prior to taking physics with him the past two semesters. He deserves this above anyone else, and I'd be happy to advocate more for him if needed. His numbers from this semester alone speak to this--out of two physics sections that are usually split 50/50, 90% of the students in physics 222 took his course over the other option. He is an amazing professor, and I cannot say enough great things about him.
Prof. Chastain has been my favorite professor this fall semester and one of the best physics professors I've had in my life. It has been my pleasure being his student, and I nominate him for this award.
Dr. Chastain has been one of the best professors I have had at UofL!
Absolutely best teacher on campus. Funny, reasonable, good teacher. 12/10 would recommend
He's extremely passionate about students. Stayed after class to ensure material was understood.
Understanding guy and low stress/enjoyable class.
I've had many professors throughout undergrad and graduate school, and Dr. Chastain is by far the most dedicated and talented professor I've ever had. He is truly an educator.
I've had a lot of professors and teachers during my educational years, but Dr. Chastain has raised the bar. The amount of time he puts into teaching us is unparalleled: class, office time, self-made YouTube videos. Being a post-baccalaureate student and this being my 6th year at a college level, I have not met a professor this dedicated to his students' success, and I thank him for that.
He has made learning physics so enjoyable and able to be clearly understood. Professor Chastain has learned the names of everyone in my very large classroom. I have never seen a professor even attempt to learn anyone's names who did not go to their office hours. He is mainly able to do this by attending all of his recitation sessions, instead of a TA leading the recitation like most professors do. He is able to interact with us one-on-one and makes sure that everyone understands the content. He not only does this in recitation, but also in the large classroom setting. He gives us group work problems and walks around with TAs to help us work the problems. It is very helpful and enjoyable. The way he teaches makes it very clear and exciting. I never really liked physics before, but his teaching style makes it interesting and easy to understand. It is very rare to walk into a college exam, especially being an engineering student, feeling completely prepared and not feeling worried at all. For his exams, I feel ready and like I can do well on it just because of how amazing of a professor he is. He is by far the best teacher I have ever had. -

Paul Clark
School of NursingAmazing and best professor ever.
Dr. Clark has made me so much more excited about starting my journey into the world of nursing next semester! His love for his work really shines through and support he has for all his students does not go unnoticed. While I have only taken one semester with Dr. Clark, he will definitely be one of those professors I will never forget. His knowledge he has passed on will stick with me forever, and I cannot wait to be able to actually apply what I have learned from him after graduation. I have not had many impressionable professors like Dr. Clark before, and for that I believe he deserves to be recognized!
I'd like to nominate Dr. Clark. He is a compassionate, electric, energetic instructor who made pharmacology, a daunting subject by any standard, accessible and fun. I was never once bored and went to class every day ready to learn. He always made time to listen and to answer questions in and out of class. He never made me feel silly or inadequate in any way and always validated my curiosity. It's because of him that I not only learned well but made an A in a class that had me quite nervous at the semester's start. If I could, I would take every class with him. He is a gem and should be appreciated to the fullest!
Dr. Clark is one of the best professors that I have had during my time in college. His lectures are always well-prepared and informative, his test questions are hard enough to test our knowledge, but fair and based on information covered in his lectures. He also goes above and beyond to help students. He records his lectures for us to go back and listen to. He is willing to discuss test questions and explain his thought processes behind each one, but he is also willing to listen to ours and doesn't let pride come in the way of our learning. He is by far my favorite professor so far at the School of Nursing.
Paul Clark is an amazing professor. He is compassionate about what he does, and it really shows in his teaching. He has taught me a great deal these past two semesters. -
Dewey Clayton
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesI was a student in Dr. Clayton's Political Science 111-02 course this semester, political discourse with a focus on civil rights. Dr. Clayton takes his coursework very seriously, and in doing so, he applies a variety of tools to better students' learning. His course is not one to take if you want an "easy A," but it is for you if you want to become knowledgeable about civil rights and the plight of blacks throughout this era. I would take this class again in a heartbeat. It was my favorite class this semester, but this would not have been the case without Dr. Clayton. He makes himself available to students outside of class and is always available to talk after. I learned so much over the course of this semester in this class thanks to Dr. Clayton, and I felt inclined to challenge myself always. If I haven't convinced you thus far, it is crucial to remember that this course is an introduction course, one many students take to merely check off a general education requirement; in this way, I find his impact even more special. Though I am a political science major, this class allowed me to feel the deep impact of the civil rights era and its impact on the United States. In fact, I have left this class intrigued to learn more and perhaps study the topic in the future.
Dr. Clayton has played such an instrumental role in my undergraduate career--from helping me decide to major in political science, to helping with letters of recommendation, to helping me get into various political science programs. Without Dr. Clayton's mentorship, I would have felt very lost in the Political Science Department! -
Amy Clukey
English
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Clukey was a wonderful help this semester. Her class was challenging, but she was always available to help guide you through assignments during her office hours, despite how busy she was after having to take on another teacher's course load for a while. She's hilarious, incredibly nice, and hosts some of the best in-class discussions I've ever experienced. -

Cynthia Corbitt
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Corbitt makes time to not only teach the information well, but to make sure her students understand and think critically about her topics. She is always reachable and willing to go the extra mile to help a student. She knows her information extraordinarily well, and despite having taught the same class for years, she doesn't let it get stale. I think she deserves Faculty Favorite.
Dr. Corbitt has by far been the best biology professor I have had so far at UofL. She is an amazing professor, and she really made me love biology and look forward even more to a career in the medical field. She is kind and really encourages students to ask questions and receive help. She is passionate about her field and so helpful when students are confused. I am looking forward to taking more of her classes in the future! -
Christopher Coyle
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Coyle has created a fantastic course with practical, real-life applications for the work we produce. I had a major surgery in the middle of the semester, and he has been compassionate and willing to work with me so that I am successful in both my recovery and the course itself. -
Liza Creel
Health Management and Systems Sciences
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Creel has been instrumental in my developing interests as a health policy major and providing actual opportunities to build our resumes as emerging healthcare professionals. In addition to this, she has made it easy to become an engaged and considerate citizen by investing time to look into resources the Commonwealth provides us to become participants in government functions. -
Fabian Crespo

College of Arts and SciencesDr. Crespo consistently goes out of his way to ensure that students understand the material given to them. He is always welcoming and accepting, while also encouraging students to do their best. If anyone deserves to be honored, it is Dr. Crespo. -

Gale Crush
Engineering Fundamentals
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Crush is a professor who is engaging, entertaining, and easy to understand. She takes time to make clear any confusion and brings a cheerful air to the classroom. I have loved having her for the 3rd semester now, since she has made calculus and differential equation courses more fun to attend. -
Denise Cumberland
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Cumberland has been one of the greatest teachers for all the support she provided throughout the semester. She even helped me prepare my research presentation at Spring research conference. Apart from that, she was just a text/email way--promptly responding, ready to help, plethora of knowledge, and showed personal interest in every class project. She maintained a very friendly atmosphere throughout the semester.
Dr. Cumberland was not only a phenomenal professor and helped our class understand organizational ethics, she was also the most understanding and accommodating person I have ever had the pleasure to learn from. As an adult learner with small children and a scattered family, emergencies arose through the semester that Dr. Cumberland was so empathetic about. She truly did everything she could to help me succeed, and the promptness, compassion, and guidance she exuded throughout the entire semester absolutely made her my favorite to learn from. Many more students would succeed if given the environment that Dr Cumberland created.
Dr. Denise Cumberland worked with me to achieve my goals in life and in the course. Please select her without delay.
Dr. C has been wonderful to work under. She is very thorough, and if you need help, she is there to guide you in the right direction. You can tell she takes her class serious and really has an interest in helping her students grow. I would love to have another class where she is the instructor.
First of all, I'd like to say that this is really unfair to all the faculty. Every instructor I have had has been very, very good. They all have made a difference in each class I have taken, so to say which is your favorite to me is kind of not fair to those hard-working instructors in this OLL program.
Dr. Cumberland is dedicated and very knowledgeable. She made the ethics course challenging, yet very interesting. It was a pleasure learning from her.
Dr. Cumberland is an invested professor. She enlivens lectures with her enthusiasm for the subject. She offers a rich learning experience by providing real-world/business-world examples. She engages her students through different means in order to meet the various learning styles. She is responsive to students’ needs--she asks for feedback from her students to ensure that we are acquiring the knowledge. She demonstrated willingness to help with student projects so that each project was a success. She is one of the best professors that I have ever encountered. -
Jolyn Dahlvig
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentJolyn goes out of her way to be understanding of her students and willing to work with them through issues. Greatly appreciate her enthusiasm, understanding, and patience. -
Matthieu Dalle
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesOne of the best French teachers I've ever had. I like that he gives his students a lot of leeway when it comes to grades. This way his class is more focused on a student becoming a better French speaker overall, rather than just getting an "A" in the class. I love that his classes are a mix of French culture/language/grammar, even if that is not explicitly what the course is about. He treats all of his students with respect and never makes us feel dumb for making mistakes when speaking French or trying to understand a certain concept. He even brought in some documents his family has owned for generations (one from before Columbus discovered America!). The French Department is lucky to have him, and I feel he has definitely helped me grow and become a better French speaker. -
Judith Danovitch
Psychological and Brain Sciences
College of Arts and SciencesShe's an amazing professor. Psych 410 was very informative, and she is always so nice!
Dr. Danovitch has taught me a lot and encompasses what the university wants in a professor. She is knowledgeable, communicable, and committed to her research.
By far one of the best professors I've had at UofL! -
Chris Davis
Physics and Astronomy
College of Arts and SciencesAll of my professors this fall are very nice, but I have to choose one. -
Shannon Dehn
English
College of Arts and SciencesHe is the most considerate, kindhearted professors that I have ever had. He presses his students to not only learn more about the technicalities of English, but also to peruse knowledge everywhere outside of the classroom.
He is so amazing and so caring for his students. I have never had a professor so understanding.
I cannot express how much I adore this man! He is beyond helpful, and you can tell he truly cares about his students. He was willing to help those who struggled, and I always saw him talking to students outside of class. This man is so uplifting! He taught great material and actually cared about us learning, rather than just throwing work at us for a grade. Such in-depth material for a basic English class. I could go on and on, he's so sweet! -
Ahmed Desoky
Computer Engineering and Computer Science
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Desoky has the ability to explain in a logical way rather than mentioning materials like most instructors. -
Rebecca Dixon
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Dixon teaches clearly and is always willing to help me out if I need something explained! I would recommend her for anyone wanting to take French at UofL. -
Guy Dove

Lee Dray
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesI had a great time in Professor Dray's class. He was very skilled at illustrating content clearly and making the class enjoyable for all students. With Professor Dray, I learned a lot from this course while having a good time learning which I feel is very important. -
Margaret D'Silva
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesVery understanding that life happens. Treated the whole class very nicely all semester and would recommend to anyone to take her classes.
Genuinely cares about her students and makes class fun and interesting!!!
Professor D'Silva is an AMAZING professor. The content she teaches is relevant. She values each student's participation and opinions on each subject and gave great feedback. My favorite part is seeing her passion to teach and share knowledge. I could still feel that even though I took her class online. I did a lot of work for this class and don't regret a single minute of it because of how engaging Dr. D'Silva is.
I definitely think Prof. Margaret should be nominated. She had a great impact on my life throughout this semester. She did an amazing job, so she deserves an award. -
David Dubofsky
Finance
College of BusinessIncredible professor, learned more in his classes than any other I took at UofL. -
Erick Dubuque
Special Education/Pediatrics and Child Adolescent Psychiatry
College of Education and Human Development/School of MedicineDr. Dubuque is exceedingly well-versed in behavior analytic literature, the current BACB Experience Standards, and the philosophy of behavior analysis. His passion for the field, his students, and his clients is contagious. He creates a positive space for collaboration, he sets high expectations for his students, and he encourages students to reach out via email, if they have any questions. The amount of knowledge that I absorb from Dr. Dubuque's class within one semester is the equivalent to multiple semesters for most professors. He is more than deserving to be recognized for his dedication to education.
Erick Dubuque is outstanding in his knowledge, preparation, organization, structure, consistency, fairness, and ability to present on a variety of topics in behavior analysis. I had the privilege of having Dr. Dubuque as my professor for 6 out of 14 required courses for my program. He always invited the class to ask questions, thoroughly answered everyone's questions, encouraged appropriate class conversation and full participation, and maintained the highest level of professionalism and ethical prowess in each class. Dr. Dubuque also went out of his way to organize a Behavior Analyst Job Fair for all 6 students in my cohort and invited 16 different employees. He also fought for the Behavior Analyst Certification Board to grant us permission to take the BCBA Exam in May because it was not possible to receive our final transcripts before the BACB's April 1st deadline. Additionally, Erick has also played an active role in advocating for individuals with disabilities in bringing discriminatory issues in insurance policies to Frankfort to fight for no restrictions to age or hours of applied behavior analysis (ABA) services for those who require it. Dr. Dubuque has been a true mentor and exemplary leader of what it means to be a teacher who instills knowledge and success in all of his students. I highly recommend Dr. Dubuque as a Faculty Favorite. -
Jian Du-Caines

Khirsten Echols
English
College of Arts and SciencesShe has been here teaching, while trying to obtain her PhD. I've had her this recent semester for ENG 102-40 (Hip Hop English). She was always attentive and present in the class, not seeming stressed even though I can imagine, she was stressed beyond measure. She was very nice and super sweet. Also, she was very understanding. It was wonderful having a teacher who looked like me (an African-American woman) in that kind of position, as well as seeing her accomplish what she did. -

Ayman El-Baz
Bioengineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Ayman is the best professor ever
Thanks
Thanks for this opportunity that allows us to nominate Dr. El-Baz.
Dr. El-Baz cares very deeply about his students and works hard to make sure students learn and understand his course.
I would like to thank Dr. El-Baz for his effort to clarify the presented content.
Dr. El-Baz is one of the best instructors--can feel his care for students and his willingness to always help.
I recommend choosing Dr. El-Baz as one of the "Top" nominees.
I am very pleased to write a nomination for Dr. Ayman El-Baz who is my co-advisor and the director of the bioimaging laboratory and the chair of the Bioengineering Department. Dr. El-Baz has demonstrated extraordinary commitment and effectiveness as a mentor, with persistent effort to provide mentoring of all his graduate and undergraduate students. As a PhD student under his supervision, I benefited tremendously from Dr. El-Baz’s mentoring, which made me write this nomination letter. Dr. El-Baz has also excelled as a teacher. We received exceptional medical imaging training that he offered to us. His lectures are always clear presentations of state-of-the-art material, such as the demonstrations of his most recent research advances. The most notable aspect of Dr. El-Baz’s mentoring is how he helps his students to build their career in medical imaging. Dr. El-Baz is always willing to share his experience and knowledge to find career-related information and exposure to various professional resources, opportunities, and networks. He has provided both emotional and moral support and encouragement through career-related counseling and coaching.
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to nominate Dr. El-Baz.
Thanks a lot Dr. El-Baz for making things easier.
Thank you! -
Imad Elhaj
Finance
College of BusinessElhaj is the reason I know finance.
Best business professor. Tough classes, but he teaches you the most. Really makes his students understand finance.
Dr. Elhaj has always shown through the semesters that hard work and critical thinking leads to success. His drive and passion to provide the best education to his students prepares them for their future. He has always been available to the students’ needs to ensure that they are receiving and learning the most of the subject matter being taught. He pushes you to learn at the highest level and is demanding on what the student needs to learn. I am very appreciative of his drive and passion that he has given and it will never be forgotten. By far, Dr. Elhaj has been the most influential professor that I have had in my learning at the University of Louisville. More educational professionals should look to him as a guide for excellence in the field of advanced teaching.
Dr. Elhaj has truly impacted me and has challenged me to push myself academically. He has also inspired me to pursue finance at the next level and achieve a master's degree. -
Andreas Elpidorou
Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesThis was a class I was dreading having to take going into it, but now that it's nearing the end, I'm sad that it's over! Professor Elpidorou is very helpful, and his lectures are interesting and enjoyable. Walking away from this course, I feel I've learned so much.
Professor Elpidorou is inspiring to every student who walks through his door; he grants him/her with the boundless freedom of thinking in more ways than one and gradually figuring out our own perspectives of the world. He encourages discussion, disagreement, even, and makes it clear that as long as you can make an argument for your view, it is all but rightfully yours. He is a light to all his students and deserves to be recognized for his countless efforts made for each of us. -
Adam Enders
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesUofL is really lucky to have brought on Dr. Enders as part of its faculty. He is so organized, which really contributes to students' learning. Even after the conclusion of the class, I still have great resources (PowerPoint lecture slides, .pdf readings, etc.) to continue building upon my knowledge. I really enjoyed Dr. Enders' class, POLS 321: Public Opinion, because the subject matter was interesting, pertinent to our current sociopolitical climate, and genuinely changed how I thought about certain things. The bottom line is, I actually LEARNED from Dr. Enders. Speaking from personal experience, there are plenty of professors who just “phone it in” but Dr. Enders is certainly not one of them. -
Carl Enoch
Kent School of Social WorkCarl was a fantastic practicum instructor. He was truly interested in the work I was doing at my practicum site and provided thought-provoking feedback of my work. His heart is truly in social justice! During the previous semester, I endured some very trying experiences, which impeded my progress in class. Carl reached out to me, was kind and understanding, and worked with me to get back up to speed. Carl truly cares about his students! -
Archie Faircloth
Accountancy
College of BusinessSuch a great professor and all-around amazing human.
Dr. Faircloth truly cares about his students and wants to see them succeed in the accounting field! -
Jasmine Farrier
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Farrier is a faculty member dedicated to the education of her students inside and outside of the classroom. On many occasions, I've met or contacted Dr. Farrier with questions relating to her class and contemporary political policies. We've engaged in thoughtful discussions about these issues, and she's overall solidified my understanding of the American political system. As an Americanist and devoted political science major, I idolize Dr. Farrier's educational background and research initiatives. And although I'm already stubbornly set for a future in political science, Dr. Farrier continues to encourage my desire to pursue a career in American politics.
She's always willing to work with you to make sure you understand and to never give up. She is a great teacher and uses different techniques to teach the entire class. Thank you.
Great advice, great professor, doors always open.
Professor Farrier is one of the smartest women I have ever met! She is an excellent educator and deserves nothing but the best.
Professor Farrier is fantastic and makes a deep, complicated topic incredibly interesting.
Her courses are the most interesting, and she really takes the time to get to know her students and help them as much as she can. -
Nettie Farris
English
College of Arts and SciencesMs. Farris goes above and beyond for all of her students, applying specific needs, pushing us to see our own success and willing to help anywhere that's needed. As a college freshman, she will always hold a place in my heart as one of my favorites. She makes UofL a positive impact, and she definitely deserves this! -
Lisa-Anne Ferris
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentProfessor Ferris is one of the most helpful, supportive and knowledgeable professors I have ever had in college. Her attention to detail and her willingness to lead and direct her students is outstanding. -
Tyler Fleming
History
College of Arts and SciencesAs a math major, this history class with Dr. Fleming is the only history class I will take while at the University of Louisville. I am not someone who has ever enjoyed a history class. However, Dr. Fleming made this history class very interesting and worthwhile.
Dr. Fleming really cares about his students and has completely changed my perspective on American history and African history. I now understand race relations in the U.S. much better knowing the origins in transatlantic slavery--this is a BIG topic to teach, and Dr. Fleming does it so well. He is energetic, makes class fun, and will let his students know he appreciates their input in class. He goes out of his way to make sure all students are included. I am so glad to have him as a professor in UofL's History Department. -
Michael Fowler
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Fowler has been the most impressive professor I've had at UofL. I've attended several extracurricular talks/speeches in my time at UofL; Dr. Fowler gave over 40 of those this semester for our class. His lectures are extremely detailed and informative. If we missed class because of a snow day, he doesn't mind to record that 50-minute lecture for us to listen to online. He handcrafted all of the reading materials for the course and created a very extensive "course packet" unlike anything I've seen in any other class. Dr. Fowler was always in a great mood, energetic, and extremely accessible outside of class. Dr. Fowler has been my favorite professor in my time at UofL. -
Karen Freberg
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesTruly, I can't imagine another professor who is as invested in her students as Dr. Freberg. Not only is she continually checking in to make sure that your current academic endeavors are being tended to, but she is continually investing in our futures and helping us to make connections in our desired fields through her various contacts. I am in my seventh semester at UofL, and while I have had many great professors, Dr. Freberg is an absolute standout. The Communication Department (and the university) are so lucky to have her--and so are we as her students.
Professor Freberg is a committed professor who is always there to help you in any way that she can. She is well-educated and has many connections that help students to connect with professionals while getting some real client experiences. -

Roy Fuller
Comparative Humanities
College of Arts and SciencesHe has a great lecture and really loves the subject and knows how to teach it well. -
Patricia Gagne
Sociology
College of Arts and SciencesGreat teacher who was able to use her skill to get a lot of information taught in a way that will be easy to retain, reflect on, and refer to in future studies. Plus the class was online. I find online classes to be less personal and harder to learn as you mostly teach yourself the material. I didn't feel that way at all with Dr. Gagne's online class. The class felt more like an actual classroom than online course as we got to work together in the discussion board settings. This class was the hardest I had this semester and yet my favorite. -
Jason Gainous
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Gainous is always willing to go above and beyond to make sure his students understand the material and thus that they succeed.
Professor Gainous is so passionate and intense during his research lectures that you are forced to pay attention because the class is not within the normal status quo of pols classes. I honestly took the class because you have to but I am truly grateful that I was exposed to the lens of knowledge that he has passed on to our class. SN: My semester will be stamped with a saying that will be stuck in my head forever "The purpose of political science is the construction of generalizable causal theory!!"
Not just a professor but a true human. -
Donna Gaus
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Gaus is an amazing instructor and mentor for me. I can see her way of teaching has been effective for each student in the class with regard to learning the concepts of the course, as well as gaining confidence to use that knowledge. It was the first time that I learned statistics and research so much better. -

She has helped us achieve our full potential during clinicals and has made sure all of the students have a wonderful experience. She has been available anytime we need her and is there to help us with other classes as well. She is a huge asset to the University of Louisville Owensboro division.
Mrs. Geary was amazing in the clinical setting. She really helped all of her students excel to become better in the clinical setting. Words cannot describe how amazing she really is.

Dr. Giridharan is the best
Thanks Dr. Guru for much patience and understanding. -
Glenn Gittings
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentI would like to nominate Dr. Glenn Gittings because of his passion and commitment to student success. I have taken two classes with Dr. Gittings in the Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration program, and I have been impressed by his always being available and willing to provide clarity, assistance and support to students as needed. He doesn't play games or try to "trick" students, but instead, offers a variety of pedagogical approaches to reach students where they are and help them learn the required content. In addition to textbooks, he provides articles, videos, and other resources that have proven to be extremely helpful. I have used content learned in both of his courses not only as I progress through the program, but as I progress in my career. Thanks to his teaching methodology, I have gone from being intimidated by philosophical foundations of education to APPLYING philosophical foundations to the work I do!! That is no easy feat! Lastly, Dr. Gittings is fun, funny, approachable, open and affirming. He is committed to equity and inclusion, and teaches in a way that supports diverse student populations. He shares personal stories of his struggles and successes that are relatable to students regardless of age, family status or classification in the program. I highly recommend him as my Faculty Favorite! -

Kristopher Grady
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesGreat professor. Very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Always willing to meet with you and discuss any questions or issues you may have. Very generous with his time. Professor Grady is one of the major reasons I decided to pursue a second degree in Political Science. You can tell he really cares about his students and the material he teaches. -
Joseph Grant
Criminal Justice
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Grant made my last semester one of inspiration. He encouraged our class to be the best they could be. Every class I left thinking about the world and how I had the power to make a difference. He had so many real-world experiences he shared with us. His knowledge and down-to-earth attitude made it easy for the class to have great discussions. -
Chris Greenwell
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentHis class made me decide to minor in SPAD. I wish there were ten more classes like this taught by him!! It is so interesting, and he is one of the best professors I have had at UofL. I love that he has real-world experience beyond the classroom and is able to bring it back to us.
Greenwell helped me find what career field I really wanted to go into. I was not as passionate about this subject until taking his class. He has also always been such a positive professor and always there when you need him. -
Mary Gregg

Ms. Gregg really dedicates her time and is passionate about helping students learn math in an easy way. She was always available whenever students needed help.
Ms. Gregg is the best teacher I could ask for. She is nice and always willing to sit down one-on-one to explain something that isn't clear to the student. She made my math class seem easy/fun. -

Paul Griner
English
College of Arts and SciencesHe was one of the few, down-to-earth, fair, and truly expressive teachers I have had.
He cares about his students so much and offers them an abundance of opportunities to grow as writers.
He really cares about his students and loves what he's teaching and it shows. He is also a writer and his work is incredible and inspirational to students and to other English faculty members. -
Anthony Gross

College of Arts and SciencesI would like to nominate professor Anthony Gross, because as an teacher, I believe he went above and beyond the standards to ensure that all of his students understood the material being taught by using different learning approaches, such as media, assignment feedback, peer reviews, constant communication, and Blackboard postings of assignment due dates. As an active duty soldier taking online courses, I can say with assurance that what Professor Gross is doing as a teacher makes a great impact on all of his students. -
Jacob Gross
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Gross taught my education resource management class. He did an outstanding job. He was always willing to help and would go the extra mile to ensure we had a clear understanding of the material.
After numerous years as a student, instructor, and now an assistant professor, Dr. Jake Gross is one of the most impressive educators I have experienced. First, his personal approach to his students is as rare as he, and from day one he memorized names and strives to understand personal details about each and every student. Second, his teaching style, in an accelerated format, focuses on the most important aspects of the lesson using different techniques to relate the information to a student’s understanding. Finally, in my experience, his concrete lessons have been the most impactful and longest lasting in my pursuit of a master’s degree in higher education. Please consider Dr. Gross for the faculty favorite as he so humbly sacrifices for his students daily in his craft. Please contact me for any additional questions. -

Meg Hancock
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Hancock is by far one of my *favorite* professors I have had at the University of Louisville. I can sense her genuine care and appetite for pushing us to be the best we can be. She is an amazing role model and the University is so lucky to have her.
She is what a professor should be and takes the time out of her schedule to make sure the students get the help they need or just talk to the students if that is what they need. She leads class in an inclusive and engaging way and is easily one of the best professors on campus.
Dr. Hancock goes above and beyond for her students and is always keeping us engaged through creative activities. She makes us critically think about how we can positively impact the sports industry.
Dr. Hancock has been an extraordinary professor and mentor to me throughout my time at the University of Louisville. She is a major reason I came to Louisville and has been instrumental in my academic achievements. She gets students to think outside of the box inside the classroom while always fighting for diversity and inclusion outside the classroom. Dr. Hancock is amazing, and I am blessed to have received her teaching and mentorship.
She is absolutely amazing in everything she does and has a way of making every individual in the class feel special. I'm so grateful I had her for a professor. -
Sharon Handy
Marketing
College of BusinessThis instructor cultivates an inclusive classroom environment, full of applicable information. She has a passion for the subject which reflects in her instruction in the classroom.
Professor Handy goes above and beyond to make sure her students are learning and retaining the core concepts of her class. She is always available for her students. She even allows text messages at any time of the day. She has a wonderful grasp on Graphic Design that she is able to relay to the students, and she is also a supervisor for an Independent Study course. Is there anything she can't do?!?!!! -
Stephen Hanson
Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesI took Professor Hanson's medical ethics class a few semesters ago. The class was an amazing class itself, but Professor Hanson taught it so well. I have recommended taking Professor Hanson to everyone. He speaks so well. He challenges you to really learn and encouraged discussions in the classroom that really played a huge role in our learning. I would like to recognize Professor Hanson because he and his class really made an impact on the student I am today. -

School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Harris truly cares for her students' learning and comprehension of the subject of her classes. She goes above and beyond, she cares for their well-being. She is passionate about health promotion and evaluation, but most of all, she is passionate about benefiting people with her work.

Kenneth Hartung

College of BusinessBest professor I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. I detailed this heavily in my course evaluation for this class. -
Kent Hatteberg
Performance Studies
School of MusicDr. Hatteberg has left a lasting impact on me as a student and as a professional. His teaching and musicianship have shaped not only how I perform music, but also how I listen to it. Most of my most memorable college experiences were in one of his classes. -
Barry Haworth
Economics
College of BusinessProfessor Haworth is definitely how professors should teach classes and interact with students. He is very hardworking, accessible office hours for extra help, a lot of test practices provided, and uses every second of the time in class teaching. Not a second goes into waste in his class. You will not regret anything but will be leaving class with tons of knowledge. -
Dedra Hayden
School of NursingI learned under the supervision of Professor D. Hayden NP about leadership in nursing. She assisted me in the process of developing my project. I always got prompt feedback. I appreciated the opportunity of working on a leadership project with her. I learned about my project at the same time that I learned about the work and role of nurse practitioners providing care to minority groups. I admire her compassion and professionalism. I am happy that I had her as my instructor in Fall 2017. -
Tony Helm
Kent School of Social WorkI have been experiencing some issues at my practicum placement but did nothing about them until I realized my manager was not going to pass me. At that time, I reached out to my assigned worker but got no response. Mr. Tony Helm referred to Ms. Lynetta Mathis. Lynetta called me late on a Friday evening while I was driving in traffic and had my barking dog with me. In other words, she had every reason to be short with me; my situation was a tad chaotic initially. On the contrary, Ms. Mathis was very professional, polite, understanding, and most of all, patient. She waited until I parked, took the time to listen, followed-up with appropriate questions, weighed evidence from both sides, expressed empathy, made a decision, and took immediate action in an effort to resolve my problem. I could stay at my original practicum placement, be miserable another semester, and chalk my internship up to just another of life’s bad experiences but, with Ms. Mathis’ help, I had no need to. As I explained my situation to her, I immediately recognized her focus was on me and my education. Her primary concern is that I be part of a good learning environment. I believe the action she is taking regarding my circumstances demonstrates her dedication to University of Louisville’s education system. She exhibits character that it's not enough to just get through school, she does her best to make it an enjoyable and edifying experience. I also need to address the efforts of Mr. Tony Helm. He has maintained a very professional and friendly attitude despite this additional urgent re-placement matter. His expertise regarding the practicum program has been a tremendous comfort and help for me. His immediate responses and guidance helped me determine a workable plan in which I can move forward. Under these circumstances, I would like to submit a request for two favorite faculty nominations. I truly hope Mr. Helm and Ms. Mathis win this award and are celebrated profusely. You may believe they are merely doing their assigned duties and yes, I would agree. However, I would like to add the fact that, for me, both of them make the difference between merely getting through school and learning from it. I believe this is the goal for the award, correct? I am so glad they have come to my rescue and are currently working to help me get a good education. I am also very pleased I am a part of your student body. In my opinion, University of Louisville really rocks! -
Ali Helmy
Bioengineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringAlthough very strict, he's an informative lecturer.
Many thanks to Dr. Ali -
Maura Hencker
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesMs. Hencker is very patient, compassionate, and considerate about her students. She is also honest with you and will be open to help when she can. I hope to have other FACULTY/STAFF MEMBER like Ms. Hencker. In which, I don't think they will ever have the same heart as her. -
Ann Herd
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentI did not have Dr. Herd this semester, but this is the first time I have seen this faculty favorite award. I just want her to know that she changed my life. I always portrayed myself as being the “a-hole” but she showed me that wasn’t the case. She asked me what my brand was. I had no idea what she was talking about so she told me that I tell everyone I’m an "a-hole" and I’m not. She said "a-holes" don’t care but you do, you are authentic. That was the first time someone saw me for something other than what I had been portraying myself as and it really inspired me to be a better person and a better leader.
A
Great instructor, lots of communication with the students and allowed students to share their experiences.
Dr. Herd made the course interesting. This is the first time in my three semesters that I have been so interested in the courses that I was taking.
Dr. Herd is an amazing instructor. She really helps each student to grasp the concepts of the subject she is teaching. I like how she makes sure each student is able to understand and encourages everyone to do their best.
I have taken three courses instructed by Professor Herd during my time at the University of Louisville. Two of the courses were taken in the Fall 2017 semester. Professor Herd does a fantastic job with articulating the coursework, providing guidance and communicating effectively. Net sum is Professor Herd is a class act! -
Carla Hermann
School of NursingDr. Hermann made pathophysiology, a class I was afraid would be challenging, very easy and enjoyable! She really connects herself to her lectures and makes sure to deliver the information precisely, accurately, and easy to understand. She was always cheerful and lit up the room, giving off a very positive vibe and atmosphere, a hard task given 100 nursing students were in the lecture! She went above and beyond to ensure all of her students were given lectures, even when her son was sick and recorded lectures on her own time and providing us students with them when she had to cancel class. That showed me how much respect and genuine care she has for her students. That is very important for a professor to have, and a quality not many possess. She is a rock star professor! -
Regina Hirn
Special Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Hirn is hands down the best professor I have had during my time thus far at the University of Louisville. Dr. Hirn's passion and excitement towards teaching inspires me to continue on my journey to becoming a teacher. Throughout this semester, Dr. Hirn continually provided me with support to be successful in and out of the classroom. Because of her, I feel confident to walk into a classroom and provide instruction and assessments to students with learning and behavior disorders. Her endless support in and out of the classroom has inspired me to become the best teacher I can be. -
Amy Hirschy
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Hirschy's guidance and patience have helped me get through the CSP program. Her willingness to go above and beyond to help me both inside and outside of the classroom has never gone unnoticed. I really appreciate all that she has done for me and for truly believing in me as a future student affairs professional.
Dr. Hirschy has been so supportive of me during this semester. I honestly wouldn't have stayed in the program if it wasn't for her. Being a human helper isn't easy, and I can see why Student Affairs has such a high burnout rate, but our department is lucky to have her. She consistently asks us to think critically and put our students first. We are always expected to work at a high academic rigor with integrity and morals. -
David Hoefer
Anthropology
College of Arts and SciencesThroughout the semester, Professor Hoefer remained passionate about his coursework and was very engaging with the class, making his lecture very enjoyable. -
Lisa Hooper
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Lisa Hooper has been instrumental in my success in graduate school over the last two years. She has pushed me to become a better clinician, researcher, and student. Since coming to UofL, she has raised the bar within our program and her high expectations for her students have led our program to become highly spoken of throughout the community. Without her, I truly believe this would not be the case. Throughout the last few months leading up to graduation, she has been an invaluable resource in the job search, navigating licensure, keeping my spirits high while studying for comprehensive exams, and always has a listening ear when faced with any problem. I believe without the help of Dr. Lisa Hooper, I would not be as equipped as I am today and confident in my abilities to move forward as a successful professional. Dr. Hooper deserves this award for her dedication to her students, the countless hours she puts in to ensure our success, and the advocacy she provides to ensure her students are having their best experience as a Louisville Cardinal! -
Penny Howell
Middle and Secondary Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Howell is such an amazing teacher. She is constantly doing everything in her power to make our lives easier. I could not have asked for a better professor this semester.
Dr. Howell is a phenomenal professor who invests her heart and soul into educating her students. She designed her classes (EDTP 341 specifically) such that they were formatted in the most relevant and beneficial ways. She cares about the well-being of each of her students, and she builds the greatest community within her classroom. She is understanding and authentic, caring and knowledgeable. She has touched me in many ways as a current teacher candidate and as a future classroom teacher.
Dr. Howell has made me consider more options for my future career in education; I feel much more passionate about middle level education and teaching in general. She has shown me the crazy amount of changes that young adolescents are experiencing and how I can work with them better once I understand these and take them into account with my practices. I appreciate all of her personal stories, her constant encouragement that productive struggle is good and her modeling of how to build a classroom community. I also had Dr. Howell for another class this semester that she co-taught with Dr. Shelley Thomas. She of course had many examples and tips in that class as well, but she also advocated for us by working to start a new program on trauma-sensitivity in the field of education. Our class is going to continue to meet to share our experiences and keep up our tight community, and I can't wait to see where it takes us. I am so thankful to have had Dr. Howell as a teacher.
Dr. Howell is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best, instructor I have ever learned from. She combines real-life teaching with scholarly instruction to prepare future teachers for the classroom. Her understanding, patience, and knowledge is something I will carry with me throughout my career. Thank you so much for all you have done, Dr. Howell! -
Lenore Hoyt
Chemistry
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Hoyt isn't just any ordinary instructor. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to do well. She dedicates several hours a week to office hours just because she wants us to be able to succeed in her class. I struggle a lot with chemistry, but the way Dr. Hoyt teaches makes everything easy to understand. It is easy to just go through slides when you have a class the size of our Chem 105 class, but she still makes it more interactive and way less boring. I am so glad I took this class!
Dr. Hoyt has a passion for teaching and chemistry that is unparalleled. After every lecture, she asked "Did you all learn any chemistry today?" Not only do we all laugh, we all shake our heads yes, because we did! The lectures are nearly two hours long and she still finds ways to make it interesting. She teaches to all parts of the room, makes an attempt to learn our names (if we come to office hours), and her office hours are WAY more frequent than what the university mandates. Dr. Hoyt is a smiling face when you're having a bad day. She's a realist, and she's not going to favor anyone. When you leave her class with a passing grade, it's because you learned and earned it. Coming into the class, I dreaded it. The last time I had chemistry was in high school and hated it, but Chem 105 quickly became a class I liked. I enjoyed learning and actually feeling satisfied after lectures and not confused and worried. Dr. Hoyt’s knowledge of chemistry is far above 100 and 200 level courses, but she does an incredible job teaching the entry-level classes. I would take her again, if I had time in my major!
This professor is one in a million. She is very passionate about what she teaches and the approach she takes to teaching. I took her during my Fall 2017 semester (and then again in Spring 2018) and immediately started adoring her teaching style. It is very natural, relaxed, and fun. She is extremely knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to make sure every one of her students understand what she teaches. I would not recommend anyone else except for Dr. Hoyt for incoming students aiming to take general chemistry.
Dr. Hoyt is an excellent professor. Her classes are extremely productive and informative. She makes herself easily accessible throughout the week for questions. Her tests are challenging but fair and reflective of material we covered in class and material assigned outside of class. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Hoyt's class and her teaching style.
Dr. Hoyt is a tremendous teacher who is genuinely passionate about teaching students chemistry. For nearly two straight hours of class, she teaches us chemistry through lecture and worksheets. She is very knowledgeable about chemistry, and whenever I have questions in need of answering, Dr. Hoyt is always willing to lend a helping hand. It's obvious that she does care about her students, and every single class she comes in with a smile on her face just as pumped to teach chemistry as her students are to learn it. -
Yuhan (Jane) Hua
Marketing
College of BusinessJane is the best professor I have had after four years here at the university. She cares about her students and is always willing to go the extra mile for them!
Prof. Jane Hua is a passionate, involved educator who goes out of her way to make sure we get the most out of our class.
I've had Yuhan Jane Hua for two semesters in a row now, and I only wish I could take more classes with her! She is the best teacher I've had through my 17 years of school, and I've learned more about myself and the marketing world in her classes than in any others! Jane really does care for her students, and so much so that when it comes to things like being sick or not having a ride to class, she offers well wishes and Uber rides at her cost. Jane really believes in all of us, and I can honestly say that I've never had another professor at this school who has made me feel as special, valuable, and confident as she has. Her love of teaching shines through in her enthusiasm and excitement for class every day, and she never ceases to amaze me in her encouragement of all of her students. Jane offers valuable knowledge about creativity, marketing, entrepreneurship, and advertising, as well as a wide range of very useful guest speakers. Jane is definitely my faculty favorite, and I know she is for other students as well. I am thankful that I have gotten to know Jane and had her as a teacher, and she deserves endless recognition for her work. Because at the end of the day, you can know everything there is to know about business, but it's teachers like Jane that really grow your love for learning and instill the confidence in you that you need for the real world!
There isn't any other teacher like Ms. Hua or as the class calls her "Jane.” Throughout the semester, she has not only helped me out, but has helped everyone in the class learn new material that we can use in the real world and incorporate it into our daily lives in a sense that whatever material she taught the class. She was always able to relate it to some aspect of the business world, and for that I appreciated everything is taught me this semester. So that's why Ms. Hua is my favorite educator, because she takes the time to make sure the material is learned and students like me remember it.
Jane is awesome, and I've loved having her as a teacher!
She was great to have.
She really shows concern for our learning. Never seen a professor put so much effort on teaching. -
Minjie Huang
Finance
College of BusinessHe made Finance 301 course, which is a difficult course, so much easier to understand, and it is all because of his knowledge and his way of teaching the course materials. He is always available outside of class and cares about his students and their success.

Jim Hunter
Comparative Humanities
College of Arts and SciencesJim Hunter is concerned, literally went out of his way to assist me after an emergency circumstance with my family. He was always ready to start and was approachable. Professor Hunter had a hard task in speaking about difficult topics of religion but was very respectful with immaculate wording so that no one would be offended. I'll miss his great personality. I may not have been the best in the class, but I appreciated the given knowledge of this professor. -

Lateefah Id-Deen
Middle and Secondary Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentProfessor Id-Deen encompasses every characteristic that a college professor should possess. Being in the education department, she creates a learning environment that makes learning intriguing. She motivates each and every one of her students to be the best teacher that they can be.
Professor Id-Deen is so fun and loving! She truly cares about her students, and she's truly passionate about what she teaches. I would take Professor Id-Deen every semester if I could. I look forward to her class because she makes my day!!
A
Dr. Id-Deen focuses on the development of confidence in teaching, which needs to happen in order to teach the content to future students and truly change the way society feels about learning mathematics. Dr. Id-Deen cares about the development of her students and wants all of them to master the material and feel comfortable with the knowledge they gain.
She genuinely cares about her students. You can tell that she loves her class and students and wants us to succeed. She comes in wanting to know how we're doing and if we are okay. She puts mental health before education, and I am grateful that I had a professor that truly cares.
Love her so much! She is so awesome and brings a positive environment into the classroom! She goes out of her way and notices if you’re having an off day and will talk to you if you need to talk about anything. She’s helped me and multiple people in our class! She’s awesome and definitely deserves to win!
Dr. Id-Deen has been amazing this semester. Although my class was with her for a short time, we were truly able to create a relationship that I will hold close to my heart for the rest of my time at the university and hopefully the rest of my life.
Dr. Id-Deen has been the most amazing teacher I have had and has helped me build confidence.
Dr. Id-Deen was an amazing professor this past semester and truly cared about her students as students, people, and future educators. She came to class every day enthusiastic. She also was very understanding with assignments and activities throughout the semester. Through her course, I now feel confident teaching mathematics to elementary students. I know several ways to make math an engaging learning experience in the classroom. I also now understand how to provide equity and access to all students in my classroom.
Prof. Id-Deen is my most favorite teacher I think I have ever had! She creates an awesome vibe in the classroom and genuinely cares for her students, and she has touched my life and made going to class very enjoyable. I am extremely sad and will be very stressed when I don't get to see our classroom family next semester.
Dr. Id-Deen has been one of the best general education instructors I have had at UofL. She takes the time to reach every one of her students to ensure their success. I felt comfortable coming to her with any concerns or questions I had. She also helped me feel confident in my own mathematics knowledge, as well as in my ability to teach mathematics. I am so thankful she was my instructor. Dr. Id-Deen is absolutely deserving of the Faculty Favorite award.
Dr. Id-Deen has changed my life. She walked into the classroom and automatically knew my name without asking. She has been one of the funniest teachers I've ever been around. She is constantly pushing us to do our best and push us to our limits without breaking us. She is an excellent instructor and the University of Louisville is undeniably lucky.
She is an amazing instructor with a loving personality. She never has a down day. Always keeps a smile and enjoys teaching the class. Overall the best professor I have ever had. She makes sure everyone is understanding the matter and keeps herself available during and after class.
This instructor goes out of her way to make sure her students are understanding class material and to check how they are mentally. She tries every class to make her students smile and ready for the day. I'm now a sophomore and she is by far my favorite professor.
Dr. Id-Deen is amazing! Before I started her class, I was not very confident in mathematics. I was actually a little nervous coming into this class because of my lack of mathematic knowledge. Leaving this class, I have learned so much, and this is by far my favorite class since I have been in college. Dr. Id-Deen's personality and teaching style makes this class so fun. I feel so prepared walking into my own classroom and teaching students mathematics because of Dr. Id-Deen. She is definitely my favorite professor ever!
Dr. Id-Deen is so thoughtful and understanding. She cares about her students as people and that is rare for a professor. She teaches math in a way that is engaging and fun. She goes above and beyond to respond to students when needed and to explain things when there is confusion.
Shows amazing enthusiasm and pride in her work and encourages students to do their best. She puts a focus on doing our best and really causing us to critically think for all assignments. -
Ibrahim Imam
Computer Engineering and Computer Science
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringI had Professor Imam for an online graduate-level course, and he was always understanding with the amount of time I spent working (78 hours one week) and the work required for class. As long as I learned the content in the assignments, it was alright if I was a couple days late turning them in. He was always very helpful in emailed questions, and I felt like he genuinely wanted me to learn the content and do well in and out of the class. -

Brittany Inge
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentBrittany was absolutely key to my success in her class. I'm on active duty in the Army and had to move duty locations in the middle of the semester. She worked with me so I could turn all the work in and complete the course requirements. As a result, I am graduating from UofL with a master’s this semester. Brittany was great and I feel fortunate to have had her as a professor. -
W. Kyle Ingle
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Ingle has stepped up considerably upon the departure of several faculty that were serving on dissertation committees or as chairs for my cohort colleagues!
Dr. Ingle is an excellent instructor. He is very direct and meticulous. He is very knowledgeable and always provides thorough feedback on assignments. He is approachable and always makes time to see his students.
There just aren't words enough to express how Dr. Ingle went above and beyond in helping me along my doctoral journey. He guided me through the process by helping me with calendar items, as well as the writing process as a whole. He was quick to tell me when I needed more research here and there to support a point/claim, but he was just as quick to applaud me when I did something great! He challenged me every step of the way while nurturing me at the same time. The word "nurture" might not be the first word most associated with Dr. Ingle, but believe me, he cares for his doctoral students more than anything in this world. He wants all his students to achieve greatness and stops at nothing less himself.
Even though I am not a current student (Dec. 2017 Grad.), I feel that Dr. Ingle will be my forever instructor and advisor. I can call him, email him, even schedule an appointment to talk about what I want to do next. He is honest and reliable. He is not afraid to tell a student the truth but will help you way above what is expected from a university professor. When I first met Dr. Ingle, I was very intimidated and chose to stay as far away as possible. However, throughout my program, I saw the department go through tremendous change that really could have negatively impacted a number of students. Dr. Ingle stepped up and took the load. He did the same for me. I just met with him last week to discuss what it means to publish a dissertation. We met the next day. He is not your normal professor and I would love for him to be acknowledged. -
Jason Jaggers
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentI have absolutely just loved having class with Professor Jaggers! He is such a down-to-earth, kindhearted person. He wants his students to do amazing in his class so he offers to help us as much as we need. He really tries to connect with his students which I love! He makes going to class fun and exciting even though the material can sometimes be very heavy and boring. By taking Professor Jaggers’ class, I have really learned the proper ways to study and prepare myself for exams. My self-confidence level in the classroom has definitely gone up tremendously because of him. He makes sure that no one feels stupid for asking simple questions, unlike some professors. Because of him and this class, I have fallen in love with my major, and I am very excited for what the future holds.
I love the class with Professor Jaggers. I feel like I am actually learning the material, instead of remembering it just for the exams. -
Rebecca Jemian
Academic and Professional Studies
School of MusicDr. Jemian has been a great teacher and mentor to me throughout all four of my years here at UofL. I think that the amount of hard work she puts in and how much she cares for her students deserves to be recognized. It's also worth noting that while she works hard to provide great instruction in the School of Music, she is also busy giving presentations at Music Theory conferences and being part of the committee for the College Board's AP Music Theory Exam. Dr. Jemian is an all-around great instructor and role model, and I would like to see that recognized. -
Rhonda Jennings Arey
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor RJ has helped me tremendously this semester. I am a beginning signer, as well as my classmates, and she has been extremely patient with us when we get confused. I think she is very deserving of this award because she is passionate about American Sign Language. She is invested in helping us perfect our signs, and she is very personable (which has made it extremely easy for my classmates and me to establish a great relationship with her!) She is a leader in her department and very down-to-earth while she is teaching us in the classroom. She is very deserving of recognition, and it is my privilege to nominate Professor RJ for the Favorite Faculty Award. -
Mike Jett
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentGreat and personable guy
Jett is easily one of my favorite professors I have had at UofL. Not only does he make his labs and lectures interesting, but I am learning things that I can apply in my career later in life. I feel like, even after I graduate, I can still reach out to Jett and he will help me.
Jett is the most helpful instructor and really wants all of his students to succeed in his class. His lectures and labs are always interesting, and I have learned so much from him!
I have learned more from him this semester than anyone in the past four years of my time at U of L! He is amazing!
Professor Jett has been one of my favorite professors at UofL. He structures his classes very well and knows the information he teaches us very in-depth. He makes classes fun and the labs help us to fully understand the information.
Very dedicated professor and wants all of his students to succeed. He goes above and beyond for all of his students and is passionate about teaching us every day.
Professor Jett is a knowledgeable professor who genuinely cares about his students' education. He made our course fun and educational and was able to apply the material to real situations.
Professor Jett is an amazing professor and the University of Louisville is lucky to have him! He is very knowledgeable about what he teaches, and he does a great job relating to college-aged students. He is understanding but also knows how to be firm with his requirements. He shows immaculate effort in the classroom and does an extraordinary job of keeping the class interested. I have seen firsthand how he can take a personal interest in the success of each and every student, while also keeping up with his many responsibilities. He deserves this acknowledgment because he does not take the easy road and just teach his students. It is easy to see that teaching and exercise science is his passion and is what he truly loves to do every day. -
Pamela Jett
Early Childhood and Elementary Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentI wish her luck, she deserves the honor.
Dr. Jett has been extremely helpful and supportive in class 681. I am grateful for all she did to include my experiences and celebrate my progress in class. Students whose first language is not English sometimes feel an "extra pressure" that a professor like Dr. Jett made go away instantly! Thank you!
Professor Jett is an amazing instructor! She gives clear feedback for every assignment you do. Professor Jett truly cares about the education program. -
Arthur Johnson

Dr. David Johnson is one of those professors that you respect so much that you don't want to skip class. You want him to feel as though you're giving your best effort. He has an extensive knowledge of the content and excels at presenting that information to his students in an effective way.
Professor is always passionate about what he teaches! He makes learning very easy and always gives instructive feedback when needed so students can improve.
Professor Johnson genuinely cares about the success of his students. He treats each of us as his equal, which enables us to have open and honest discussions. David is all around an awesome person. He is relatable, kind, wise, and trustworthy. I could not imagine any other professor more worthy of the award. -
Detra Johnson
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Johnson provided a challenging learning environment in class. She pushed students past their comfort zones and demanded that they work harder and do more than they had expected of themselves. I particularly enjoyed her school law class. Even though the class was 2.5 hours long, it always felt like it went by quickly. We participated in many interesting presentations and had great class discussions around real-world situations. Dr. Johnson challenged all students and made the class interesting, informative, and most importantly, beneficial to our future careers. -
Tina Johnson
Kent School of Social WorkMs. Tina Johnson really has a heart for the Social Work field. She brought real-world ethical issues into the classroom to make things relatable. She also cares for her students and wants us to succeed.
She is an unbelievably amazing teacher! Not only did I gain so much knowledge about my pursuing career but also about myself.
She is a passionate social worker who brought the real-world issues into the classroom. The love for what she does definitely shows. And, she wants everyone to succeed. -
Elizabeth M. Jones
Pan-African Studies
College of Arts and SciencesProf. Jones always makes class engaging by encouraging us to take control of our own learning. She supports us as we cover difficult topics that can leave us mentally drained and discouraged. In every aspect, she's always there for her students to assist us however she can. My semester would be so different without the support of Prof. Jones. -
Johnny Jones

Ricky Jones
Pan-African Studies
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Jones is an astonishing person and a wise educator. He prepared me, and from what I could tell, my classmates, to better understand ourselves and other human beings. He taught a racial class in a way that allowed all of his students to understand different points of view in a comprising way. Dr. Jones challenged all of his students intellectually while preparing us for success. I can say from the bottom of my heart he is an amazing professor, and every student should have the chance to encounter Dr. Jones or someone like him.
Dr. Ricky Jones is a perfect candidate for this award for Favorite Educator. His leadership in academia has been transformative, liberating and motivational to my undergraduate career! His book selections, lectures and engagement are substantial to my Pan-African studies experience, and I know for sure my classmates, colleagues and generations before me can attest to that. -
Rishtya Kakar

Micah Kamrass
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentProfessor Kamrass is one of the reasons that I am happy to be attending the University of Louisville. His course has been extremely enjoyable as well as informative and is great preparation for a career as an educational administrator. The thing that sticks out the most is his availability. He gives out his personal cell phone number to his students to contact him. I have called him on several occasions for assistance and he has answered every time. He takes time to answer questions and recently followed up with an email and news article on a topic that we were discussing. Although all professors should be like this, we know that they are not. Educators such as this are special and are a reason I am proud to be a Cardinal. -
Mehmed Kantardzic
Computer Engineering and Computer Science
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringHe is one of the best instructors I've ever met. He prepares very well for the lecture and doing the presentation really well. He is also giving a lot of illustrative examples and provides hands-on projects that makes it all very clear and understandable. -
Julia Karcher
Accountancy
College of BusinessShe's retiring this year. And she's a legend. Nuff said
Dr. Karcher's teaching style is the post productive and efficient method I have ever experienced. I have had her for two semesters, and not only does she teach effectively in the classroom, but she is always available in her office, and more than willing to help students, not only reach an answer, but understand why and how that answer was reached. She goes above and beyond the role of a professor and helps students think about, and plan for, their future. Last semester, Dr. Karcher informed us about a scholarship, that I had no idea was available to us. I applied, and ended up receiving the scholarship, and I am forever grateful to Dr. Karcher for it and her continuous efforts to better the lives of her students. I have learned so much from Dr. Karcher, and I wish I could learn everything I need for my career from her, because I know she makes every effort to ensure that her students succeed. The more eager I am to learn, the more excited she gets to teach, and I think that's typically an attribute that is hard to come by in professors. I believe she truly loves seeing students learn, not just make a decent grade, and her actions show that. It's safe to say that Dr. Karcher is the best professor I have had, or will ever have, in my academic career.
Professor Karcher is an amazing professor. She genuinely wants all of her students to succeed. Professor Karcher had an amazing availability outside of class, was very prompt with returning emails and always took time to cover topics thoroughly. The class she teaches, Accounting 302: Intermediate Accounting, is very fast paced with some difficult material to cover in the allotted time frame. She helped students by adding many additional resources to study from on Blackboard. I feel like she went above and beyond my expectations of a typical professor in any department and deserves to be recognized for outstanding effort in helping her students succeed. I wish her the best in retirement and want her to know how much I appreciated having her in class.
Dr. Karcher is an amazing teacher. My major is accounting, and when I took 301 and 302, it was like a foreign language to me. Dr. Karcher was nothing but helpful. She is straight to the point, there is nothing we do in that class that is busy work, and she is so passionate about teaching.
Dr. Karcher demonstrates a true passion for teaching, and genuinely cares about each of her students! While ensuring the classroom is a conducive learning environment, Dr. Karcher challenges all students to be their very best. I appreciate her genuine enthusiasm, practical wisdom, and commitment to excellence both in and outside the classroom! She will be greatly missed at the College of Business.
Karcher is beyond willing to help any student and truly wants to see her students understand material and prepare them for the professional world. -

Kent School of Social WorkDr. Kemp is a wonderful instructor. She is so supportive and encouraging. She provides a learning environment that challenges the student to reach his/her full potential as a social worker. She is very inspiring and loves what she does. Thank you so much Dr. Kemp!! -

College of BusinessHad him for two semesters now--wonderful professor!
Great instructor who truly cares about student success and learning. Highly organized and understanding, Steve cares for his students in a very unique and rare way! He gives insight to help students with their careers, looks at resumes, and is always available. Steve consistently lets students know what is expected and understands when an assignment is unfair. He pushes students to do their best, and class time is always fun. I have learned so much in his CIS 250 course. Steve has a great attitude and makes a positive impact on his students!

Elizabeth Kimbell
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Kimbell takes a lot of time with her students and responds quickly to questions. She is very professional and invests time in her students. She is attentive to their needs, explains assignments and gives great feedback. She is one of my favorite professors on campus!
I have taken Dr. Kimbell two or three times online throughout my college career, and she has been one of the most amazing professors I've ever had. She's extremely organized, very responsive and very helpful for any and all questions you may have. I love that she has everything available from the start of class so you can work ahead and not get behind. She also has her students go to the writing center twice for a grade which is very, very helpful for your papers. Because of her, my writing has improved tremendously, and I now visit the writing center weekly with reviews on my papers. She is a wonderful person and professor and truly cares for her students.
Prof. Kimbell is an inspiration. Every assignment contributed to my knowledge of how to succeed after graduation. The papers written for her class will assist in building my portfolio to begin my career. Her encouragement and constructive criticism have made me a better writer. -
Leslie George Kistner

Audrey Kline
Economics
College of BusinessShe is my favorite instructor for this semester. The class starts at 8 a.m. but I never once fall asleep in the class. Her lecture speed is not too slow that makes it boring but not too fast that students may miss something. She always encourages class participation and any kind of questions. She gives encouragement both when your scores are high or low.
Ms. Kline is always open to help any individuals at anytime and place. She is also an amazing teacher who tries to help all of her students understand the content to succeed. Ms. Kline also communicates with students clearly, fairly, and often. I would highly recommend her to any students!
Audrey was a great professor and helped me out in a big way outside of class when she had no obligation to do so.
I LOVE Ms. Kline, she's so helpful and truly wants to help her students understand all the material throughout the class. She has helped me better understand economics by meeting me many times after class and going over the subject.
What defines a great professor? I would argue that being great does not consist of always bringing the best teaching technique. Rather, being a great mentor. Audrey has been there for me and has given me great advice on the next steps in my life. I appreciate this class, and especially choosing this professor. Thank you Audrey....
Professor Kline does a great job explaining the course material by providing lots of examples and always asking if she can help her students learn in any way. -
Michal Kofman
Sociology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Kofman encourages a respectful and thoughtful classroom. She listens to students' views, promotes discussion, and also provides solid, knowledgeable lecturing. The assignments were among the best I've undertaken at UofL. Dr. Kofman just really got my brain turned on to talking social theory! -

School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Kong is a hard-working teacher and an extraordinary mentor. She always thinks about what is best for all the students and works accordingly. -
Jonathan Kopechek
Bioengineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Kopechek has been instrumental in my development as a researcher. He is always willing to review abstracts, disclosures, papers, and peer-reviewed articles. He is always willing to make accommodations to meet with his students.
Dr. Kopechek is a past professor and current employer of mine. I work in his Theranostics Ultrasound Lab on multiple projects he has going. Not only is Dr. Kopechek one of the best people I've met since being in Louisville, but also the most hardworking and inspiring. Since day one in the lab, Dr. Kopechek has pushed me to be my best at all times, pushing me towards things that will further my career someday. When I decided on going to medical school, Dr. Kopechek immediately started brainstorming all the ways he can help me get there to fulfill my dream. Some bosses want to know what you can bring to them while Dr. Kopechek mainly focuses on how working in his lab can help you. This is something I will forever be grateful for. Alongside his motivation for me, is his motivation for himself. He is one of the most hard-working people I've come across on this campus. In between balancing multiple projects in the lab, he is often applying for new grants, writing manuscripts, letters of recommendation for people, or finding new collaborations to expand his learning. When he leaves the lab for the day, he almost always works from home. This makes him reachable at most times during the day, which is great. Dr. Kopechek always has things back to me in a timely manner, something not all professors do. I often find myself wondering how Dr. Kopechek manages it all, but he always does. On the flip-side of being hardworking, Dr. Kopechek is one of the most humble people I've come across also. He is a great role model on how to be successful and humble. He does not get the recognition he should for the amount of work he puts in to the students of UofL and the school itself. I cannot express my gratitude for how much the opportunity to work for Dr. Kopechek means to me. I cannot think of a single more deserving person for this recognition.
Dr. Kopechek is the best professor I have ever had. He's always willing to help and genuinely cares if you understand. He is so patient and awesome. -
Andrea Koven
Sociology
College of Arts and SciencesKoven's attitude about the subject she teaches speaks for itself. Her lectures provide me with inspiration and challenge the ideas I believe so strongly. Bringing new material and important questions about the structure of our society, the systematic inequality, and going further to ask us what we can do to change these inequalities, make Koven an admirable and inspirational professor. The discussions I had with her in and out of class always challenges critical thinking and analysis of subjects we may not always want to think about. Her passion is evident in her teaching style, as her exasperation and expressiveness in the classroom help to paint her dedication to educating people on issues that matter. This was my first semester at UofL, and with a great professor like Koven, I am more than hopeful and excited for the other professors I will encounter, who will not only educate me, but challenge me to grow as a student and a human being. -
Hamid Kulosman
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesHe was my favorite professor throughout this semester, and he really made a difference for me. Without him, I don't think I would be passing calculus like I am. He is an amazing professor and a great person. -

College of Arts and SciencesSwathi is an incredible teacher. She educates with charisma and an energy that is contagious and motivating! She motivates me to want to be a better student and a higher achiever and leads by example. She is always available for help or feedback and has a wonderful sense of humor. She goes above and beyond to ensure her students understand all of the material. The Biology Department is lucky to have her and I highly recommend her. -
Adrian Lauf
Computer Engineering and Computer Science
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringFor reference I am completing the MS CS program via distance, and this was my last semester. After working with Dr. Lauf over this past summer on an independent study, he was my first choice as advisor for the MS project course. Compared to the other instructors I've had at UofL during my graduate program, I can honestly say Dr. Lauf easily stands out among them as an all-star professor. Throughout the semester, Dr. Lauf was an excellent mentor and advised me on my studies in a way that was motivating while still giving me the freedom to perform my own academic exploration. Additionally, he was always available to help with anything I had, sometimes sending emails well into the night, and he had no trouble sharing his expertise. I truly appreciated having Dr. Lauf as an advisor, and it is my pleasure to recognize him as a favorite instructor this fall semester. -
Roxanne Leiter
REACH--GEN 105 Supplemental College Reading
Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student SuccessShe was always there when I needed her and she's a great teacher.
Roxanne is an excellent instructor for us incoming freshmen. The class was connected to my Bio class, and we were able to ask questions from previous lectures here. She was very helpful and set aside a day just to have conferences with the students to see where they were at academically, which I appreciated. -
Conor Lennon
Economics
College of BusinessDr. Lennon is one of the most engaging, high-level, and compelling teachers I've ever met. His Global Economic Issues class takes a fresh approach to the world's biggest problems, and I have learned so much. He marries theory and applicability beautifully. UofL is incredibly blessed to have him.
Dr. Lennon is the most helpful, appreciative, practical and kind professor I have had at the university. He makes himself accessible to his students as much as possible and never turns you away if you need help. He encourages his students to extend their university participation beyond the classroom through beneficial reading groups and coordinates informative speakers for his students and all of the College of Business. Dr. Lennon has worked tirelessly, from my personal experience in senior capstone, this semester to give his students an enjoyable semester regardless of the hard work and effort needed for his class. He has constantly encouraged us to exceed our personal expectations by giving information on opportunities we can seek through hard work. Although there is not really a “bad” professor, Dr. Lennon stands out among the faculty I’ve experienced in the best ways and deserves to have his efforts and teaching style recognized!
Dr. Lennon is an exceptional professor in the ways that he is able to connect challenging economic principles to individual interests and present-day issues. I have him to thank for my renewed interests in my economics degree this last year. I will continue to encourage fellow students to take more economics courses and always recommend Dr. Lennon for a mentor and professor. -
Ariana Levinson
Brandeis School of LawShe's a great professor, always facilitates great discussion and creates a positive learning environment. She really cares about her students. Helps students with networking opportunities. Professor Levinson is always available to meet with students. And she brings snacks to class for students who answer questions and actively participate.
Professor Levinson is one of the most caring professors I have ever met. She genuinely cares about her students, their success in her courses and law school, and their futures. She is passionate about the topics that she teaches. Her courses are challenging, but she is fair and helpful along the way. She is one of the most supportive professors I have ever come in contact with.
Without Professor Levinson's dedication and passion for a student's education and goals, I would not have been granted the opportunities that have been given to me. -

Megan Locke
REACH--GEN 103/104
Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student SuccessMs. Locke was one of the best instructors I've had all year. She makes it clear she really cares about her students and their well being.
Megan Locke was an outstanding instructor for my math GEN 103 class and went above and beyond to make sure that we not only succeeded in the class, but also gave you confidence to help you succeed in math classes beyond her class.
I love Professor Locke very much and she cares very much. Can teach very well. -
Kossi Logan
Pan-African Studies
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Logan is a very good teacher who encourages you to look at everything in a perspective not taken by most. -
Susan Longerbeam
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Longerbeam started teaching in this program when I began the program, and it has truly been an amazing journey getting to know her. Her kindness, flexibility, and great deal of knowledge is exactly what the field of student affairs needs. I really appreciate transparency, honesty, and willingness to share her own personal story and experiences. Oh and her quirky personality made class that much better!
Dr. Longerbeam is a fabulous addition to our department. After seeing the impact she's made on us within just a year, I can only imagine where she will take the program from here. I am beyond excited to head on a Service Learning trip to Trinidad and Tobago with her and my peers. Dr. Longerbeam is by far the most compassionate and caring person I have ever met. She fills me with confidence and always reminds me to practice self-care. I feel blessed to have met her and will continue to have a relationship with her after I graduate this coming May. -
Douglas Lorenz
Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Lorenz is definitely one of the best professors I've ever had the privilege to learn from. Although the material was daunting to many of us in the Public Health program, he prepared his material in a very organized way and made all of his lectures available online to be accessible at any time. During class he gets very passionate about the subject at hand, which makes class time engaging and the topic interesting. He is truly an inspiration because I always considered myself "not a math person,” but only through his class have I actually discovered how powerful analyzing data can be and how much I enjoy statistics. It takes a certain person/professor to help a student discover a hidden liking for a subject they used to "hate." I owe a large amount of my positive experience in learning this semester to Dr. Lorenz, and he deserves this award so he realizes how much of a difference he makes every day in the classroom.
I am not even sort of close to being talented at math, but Dr. Lorenz is one of the few professors I've come across that has the gift of being able to really transform the material into something understandable, fun, and exciting. I'm glad this program gives us two semesters with him.
He teaches one of the most difficult courses in my program, but he comes to class so well prepared that his simplistic explanation makes it look easy. He painstakingly explains over and over again and still completes the materials scheduled for that day. -
Michael Losavio
Criminal Justice/Computer Engineering and Computer Science
College of Arts and Sciences/J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Losavio is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes class fun and gets engineers to actually have thoughtful class discussions on topics we've not really thought about. He also makes a good fake judge. Came in full judge regalia and gave us a day in appeals court. -
Robert Luginbill
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesIn my four years at UofL, no one has made me understand concepts more than Dr. Luginbill. On top of this, he is a kind man who wants you to succeed. He deserves this recognition.
Professor Luginbill is an AMAZING teacher! He is so kind and understanding and makes sure we leave class with a smile on our face every day.
Professor Luginbill does a great job of making the class interesting and even entertaining. I've thoroughly enjoyed this Latin 101 semester and look forward to 102 in the spring. -
Geraldine Mack
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Mack was very clear in her expectations of our class and taught all content with ease. She was always prepared and responded quickly to inquiries. Despite inclement weather and a condensed course, Dr. Mack made the most out of every class and the Blackboard resources to facilitate a great understanding of the content and spur interesting dialogue between students. -

Mary Makris
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Makris obviously cares about her students. She chose interesting and original material for us to survey in our class--books and movies I never would have chosen of my own volition but am nonetheless so thankful to have experienced. She fostered a comfortable class environment which led to good discussion and a space to be creative. She brought us in snacks almost every day, which was the cherry on top of a truly wonderful class! She is an amazing professor.
Mary Makris deserves to be the queen of UofL and nothing less will suffice.
Professor Makris made all of her lessons engaging, and her assignments throughout the semester always contributed to our learning. -
Andrew Manikas
Management
College of BusinessDr. Manikas offers extensive real-world experience, while conducting class with energy and a thorough understanding of teaching technique. He engages with students, expects a fair amount of work (not too much or too little), and does an excellent job preparing students for the CAPM exam. I have personally had some lackluster experiences with the Management Department but he redeemed it in my opinion. Great professor! -
Samuel Marcosson
Brandeis School of LawProf. Marcosson has taught us constitutional law this semester and always makes the seemingly dense material relevant and engaging. He takes great effort to be available to his students for questions and deeper discussions of the topic. Prof. M also does a good job to stimulate open discussion of what are controversial partisan topics. I am thankful to have him here at our university!
Professor Marcosson is the most deserving of this award. More than anyone I can imagine!
Professor Marcosson is always available outside of class for either academic or personal assistance. He has put in countless hours coaching my team members and I for Moot Court. Thanks to him, my oral advocacy and legal writing skills have improved greatly. Additionally, students can tell that he is very passionate about the subjects he teaches because he is animated, makes the material interesting, and ensures class participation. -
Cynthia Martinez
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesShe is a new teacher for the upper-level Spanish classes, but she is such a wonderful teacher. She made us very engaged, varied activities, and provided us with a lot of appropriate challenges for our learning. I really dreaded the class, but I ended up loving it a lot and will miss having her as a teacher. She is so kind and patient with the class. I feel very lucky to have had her. -
Mark Mashuta

College of Arts and SciencesDr. Mashuta was more than helpful this semester. He takes time out of his day to go above and beyond for his students. He truly cares about all of his students' futures. He is so passionate in his work and makes class and learning fun.
He teaches chemistry in a more fun way. -
Katherine Massoth

She is personable and makes an effort to get to know her students and help them succeed. She expects hard work and participation, and the students in her classes are better off and more well-rounded for it. -
Jeffery Masters
Biology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Masters is AWESOME! He really cares about my learning experience. If I don’t fully understand a topic, he will sit down and explain it to me in every which way, multiple times if needed, in order for me to fully get it. I have never had such a sweet and patient professor at UofL! He also loves to joke around and have fun and isn’t so serious like my other biology professors. He deserves this award more than anyone else. Truly a fantastic professor!
Professor Masters was the kindest, most interesting professor I have ever had. He truly cared whether or not we understood the material, and he was so excited to be teaching it that it made for a more engaged classroom dynamic.
Dr. Masters has been, so far, the greatest professor I ever had. His knowledge, and the different ways to teach to be sure the students know the topic, goes beyond everything. I am learning, and I know it is hard, but Professor Masters always is available to help and give each student the time and extra activities to be sure himself that we the student do not have any more doubts. Professor Masters loves his career and shows constantly the passion for teaching. Hope many other professors can imitate Dr. Masters. He deserves the award!
He is amazing, nothing short of a god :) -
Lynetta Mathis
Goldburn Maynard
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Maynard covers some of the more tedious subjects in the entire law school course-book, however, he is able to approach each subject with such enthusiasm that his students can't help but be captivated. He displays an impressive understanding of all the material he teaches, but perhaps more impressively, he is able to craft perfectly understandable responses to any question that he might encounter in the class. He has a way of tying all the concepts together and presenting them in a way that is inherently understandable, add in his many pop culture references and relatable examples, and he has created an environment where his students are eager to hear what he has to say each and every day. Aside from his control of the classroom, he is a teacher who clearly cares about the students that he teaches, and makes no quarrel about setting aside the time it takes to address any issues they might have. -
Laurie "Lali" McCubbin
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. McCubbin was instrumental with my piece of mind throughout this semester.
In a semester full of "required" courses that made this Fall semester seem like it was never-ending, Dr. McCubbin's course was the highlight of my week and semester. Being able to engage in in-depth conversations about relevant topics in my field of study, and being able to learn so much from her, has allowed for this course to become one of my favorites. Thank you, Dr. McCubbin! -

A great instructor! Very patient and clear on explaining!
Mr. McKnight always went above and beyond for me and others in the class. He would spend as long as it took for us to get a concept. He made me enjoy coming to class and always made me realize that I could do it, even when I didn't believe in myself.
Best professor ever. -
Alison McLeish
Psychological and Brain Sciences
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor McLeish is by far my favorite professor here at UofL. She is passionate about her teaching and really understand how to engage with students in a large lecture class. She learns names, gives each student a fair opportunity to succeed and truly learn, and not just memorize the material in class. Whenever there is a class I need to take in psychology, I always look to see if she is teaching the course. I truly enjoy her teaching styles, and she deserves this nomination fully.
She is very engaging, warm, and knowledgeable. 5/5 Would recommend.
Professor McLeish stood out to me this semester because of her intentional instruction in the classroom. I'm thankful I took her course this semester. -
Tara McMahon

College of Arts and SciencesProfe McMahon teaches in a way that engages her students, teaching them in a challenging yet effective way. She wants everyone to succeed, and she makes herself available to all of her students. She has taught me so much during spring semester, and I am happy to take what I learned and move forward. -
Laura McNeal
Brandeis School of LawProfessor McNeal is an amazing professor who brings the classroom to life with lively discussions surrounding core issues in today's society. She is not only an amazing professor but an amazing mentor as well. Professor McNeal is someone you can count on no matter what the situation is and she will be there for you. Along with all of her personal and professional obligations, she remains accessible and always has a positive outlook on life. I am nominating Professor McNeal to be recognized because she doesn't just talk the talk but walks the walk.
When I think of Professor McNeal, three words come to mind: ingenuity, dedication, and compassion. She consistently finds ways to connect our doctrinal courses to real-world issues, sometimes creating whole seminars out of them--even if that means she has to design a course book from various books and articles, fosters a unique learning environment that both engages students and welcomes them, and somehow she still finds time to remember our passions and help us reach our goals. For example, she recalled that I was the education access fellow for the Brandeis human rights advocacy program, and asked me to help her co-author a chapter on truancy and its role in the school to prison pipeline. Professor McNeal did not need my help--that area is one of her many areas of expertise, but she always lifts as she climbs. It is just who she is. She has been an informal mentor to me and many others and is an invaluable member of the Brandeis School of Law family. In addition to her incredible expertise and warm demeanor, she is always on top of technological trends in education, which creates an always accessible classroom and learning platform. Finally, she is one of the most dedicated educators I have ever encountered. I have literally watched her teach as her younger brother passed away during one of our classes, as well as through health challenges. She puts her students first. My law school experience was significantly enriched because of her. It is with great enthusiasm that I nominate her for this award/ designation. -

Lynda Mercer
Comparative Humanities
College of Arts and SciencesI had the pleasure of taking the course, Cultures of America, with Dr. Mercer online. This is not my first online class, but it was by far one of the best. The way the coursework was set up made learning engaging and obtainable. Spending three weeks on each lesson gave me the opportunity to absorb the material and not just get a grade. By using lectures, Dr. Mercer provided an avenue to connect with her that other online courses don't allow. The passion for her work was apparent from her lectures. Using blogs through the course, I believe, gave me a platform to voice my perception of what I learned in a way I don't think I would have, had it been a traditional classroom setting. I was able to use subject matter learned from this course to converse outside of the online environment as well. Dr. Mercer let it be known that she was always available for more assistance if needed. She also used her personal life to give examples in some cases which only further provided a connection between her and her students. I can't say enough good things about this professor but would like to thank her for this invaluable online course experience. -

Rodney Merkley
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Merkley was very encouraging and always made me want to do my best. He was very good at explaining the material each week which can be difficult since my class was a distance learning class. He was very available to us all semester and provided frequent feedback. I hope I get the opportunity to take another one of his classes during my time at UofL.
Dr. Merkley was always helpful and readily available when I had questions. He communicated with me effectively by discussing course content in terms that I could understand. -
Larry Michalczyk
Kent School of Social WorkNow that I am nearing the end of my 60-hour MSSW program, I can say with confidence that Professor Michalczyk is the best professor I've had at Kent School. He is enthusiastic, extremely well versed in social policy, and is an excellent professor who is personally and professionally invested in his students' learning and careers. Even when I don't actively have him in a class, he is still there for me for professional guidance, advice, and networking. I tell every new social work student that they absolutely have to take Professor M and that they won't regret it. -

Melissa Miller
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Miller was great at responding to any question or concern that I had in class. It was very easy to talk to her during our online chats and through email. I was concerned about taking French online as I am typically a traditional classroom learner, but Professor Miller was very helpful, and I had a great experience with her online class. -
Shawnise Miller
Kent School of Social WorkIn my first semester as a distance graduate student, Dr. Miller created an atmosphere where all could learn, and the material was challenging and engaging each week. Dr. Miller was always available, approachable and personable and was a part of the semester that I could rely on to always ring clear as to how what I was learning would shape my future as a social worker. As an undergraduate, I have experienced program directors who served as professor and have never been more impressed; Dr. Miller is a wonderful asset to the MSW program and has left a lasting positive first impression of what the University of Louisville strives for and values! -
Luke Milligan

Amanda Mitchell
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentShe is amazing professor
Dr. Mitchell has gone above and beyond as a first-year Assistant Professor. She is an alumni of UofL--having earned her Master’s and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology here. She has come full circle and is now a faculty member in the ECPY Department. She was given the daunting task of teaching two sessions of Assessment-I her first semester, and her second semester had an enormous class for Assessment-II. She approached each challenge with grace, determination, and poise. As a student, this meant that while she had mounds of psychological reports to grade, lessons to prepare for, assessment materials to coordinate distribution of, a new University and College to navigate, etc., she took time to hear the students' concerns, made adjustments when possible, explained situations that were beyond her control and supported students to meet the learning objectives. Each of us are now prepared for our Assessment Practicums and as a professional because of her efforts. Outside looking in, her students knew she had a lot of hurdles to overcome--the sheer volume of grading due to multiple classes/large class sizes, the frustrations associated with limited assessment materials, potential challenges associated with being a new faculty member, other limitations and/or expectations, etc.--she never put any of this on us. Rather, she worked diligently behind the scenes, never so much as mentioning her long hours or tedious efforts. Her students showed up to class where we were taught in such a way that even the most challenging and new concepts made sense, and if they didn't, she was a phone call, email, or office visit away! In my many classes at UofL, I can say that Dr. Mitchell is one of the best professors I've had and hope that she is celebrated for her hard work and dedication to the Department, College, and University, but perhaps most importantly, her students!
Dr. Mitchell is creative and engaging in her instruction style, which maximizes student learning. Her classes are not only interesting, but challenge students to think critically and grow as a professional. Also, Dr. Mitchell demonstrates compassion and genuine interest in her students; she is truly student-centered in everything she does! She supports students by attending conferences, making time to meet with students, responding promptly to emails, and being present on campus.
Dr. Mitchell is an amazing professor in the Counseling Psychology program. She really puts the students first and takes and adjusts to student feedback more adeptly than any other professor I have encountered. The best part about Dr. Mitchell’s courses is the way she includes multicultural considerations into every lesson and lecture. She has done a tremendous job to prepare me to conduct psychological assessments, and she is a fantastic addition to the Counseling Psychology program at UofL.
This was Dr. Mitchell's first semester teaching here. She was responsible for teaching a traditionally very difficult course, and we were constrained by supply limitations. Dr. Mitchell handled every obstacle with grace, and she helped us all grow and learn. Before the beginning of the semester, I had heard how terribly difficult this class was going to be and how much others have disliked it. However, Dr. Mitchell, though it was a tough course, you found a way to help all of us find understanding and learn to find interest in the topic. She was amazing!
I've learned more in Dr. Mitchell's class than any other I've taken. Her class discussions push the students to actually dissect the information and then put it to use in their therapy dyad.
Dr. Mitchell is new to the Counseling Psychology program, and she was amazing this past semester! -
Heather Mitchell
School of NursingDr. Mitchell is extremely dedicated to the School of Nursing and is a fabulous teacher. She is the most knowledgeable teacher I have had throughout my four years of college, and I hope to be half the nurse that she was. She constantly kept me encouraged and motivated throughout nursing school. She is extremely dedicated to everything she does and each and every one of her students. You can tell she loves to teach, and she is very good at lecturing. The classes she taught were the ones I actually enjoyed going to. The School of Nursing would be lost without her.
Dr. Mitchell goes above and beyond to teach us a wide range of topics. She makes six-hour lectures go by fast, and you walk out of the room feeling prepared to take your exam right then. Dr. Mitchell has been the most influential person in my college career, and I owe a majority of the knowledge I have to her.
Dr. Mitchell is a phenomenal teacher who deserves this award every semester. Dr. Mitchell understands how students think and tries to the best of her ability to help us understand her content. She is great at teaching test-taking skills when you know the information but missed the question due to unused test-taking strategies. She is a great mentor and educator.
This instructor is one of the best teachers I have ever had the pleasure of studying from. She guides you and wants every single person to succeed. She teaches in a way everyone understands and can connect to. She wants everyone to be the best nurse they can be. -
Chad Money
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Money made math, a subject that I never liked before, seem easy and concise to me. He is always open for additional help, and he truly cares about his students. He is constantly making an effort to make sure his students understand the material and his methods make everything simple. -

Dr. Noles did a great job teaching both of the classes I had with him this semester. I looked forward to coming to class, and the information was presented in a manner that was enjoyable and informative. Would definitely recommend to peers.
Professor Noles always made class fun and interesting. This was my second time having him as a professor, and I was super excited when I found that out. If I were to have another class, and I had the option to choose him as a professor again, I definitely would.

Her passion and energy as she teaches us about Deaf culture is unmatched! Love her!
She is absolutely amazing. A woman confident in who she is, incredibly nice to talk to in her office, funny enough to keep the class laughing for most of the hour, and energetic enough to keep you from falling asleep or comically scolding those who do. (Not once have I ever felt I would fall asleep in her class and that's coming from an UPSer who works the night shift.) -
Sam Park
Mechanical Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringHe's an excellent teacher who makes a difficult class more bearable and even enjoyable. Dr. Park does a great job interacting with his students and keeps an excellent, open line of communication with his students. He always has a personal story to share that will make people smile. Shawn Parkhurst
Anthropology
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Parkhurst has challenged and supported me this entire semester. He has pushed me to think in new ways and has changed the way in which I see the world. Dr. Parkhurst is unique in that he requires his students to learn each other's name which brings the class closer together. Because of this, there is a sense of community present that is often lacking in other classes. Furthermore, he is a dynamic lecturer but often takes the roll of dynamic facilitator opting to let us, the students, work it out and providing guidance along the way. -
Scott Patton
Special Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentHe cares about students as a whole person. He shares personal experiences to connect with us. He is always looking to talk and ask us about our lives. Mr. Patton is the best teacher I have ever had! He has led such an inspirational life, and he is so passionate about special education!
Scott Patton is hands down one of my favorite professors I have had throughout my time in the education program. He is extremely understandable. I have not only learned a lot through the course content, but he shares with us real-life experiences of him in schools, and it makes learning so much more enjoyable. He is a great professor, and I would recommend him to anyone.
He is the absolute greatest! He will support you and help you succeed no matter what. He wants his students to go far and be one of the greatest in the world.
Dr. Patton is THE most compassionate, kindhearted professor undoubtedly. He allowed me to late add his class and was overly kind in helping me to learn everything I missed. He cares so deeply for all of his students, and I can't imagine a better person to receive this honor.
He cares deeply about his students and special education. He really inspires me to be a great and caring teacher for all of my future students.
Has great passion for what he is teaching and really cares for all of his students. He changes the course as needed, based on student feedback EVERY WEEK. His feedback is phenomenal and very detailed and specific.
He is a very passionate professor who cares about his students.
Professor Patton is very caring and understanding. He tells great stories and is super funny. I love being in his class and learning from him!
Mr. Patton taught my EDSP class. While I’m not an education major, I will probably be working with this population one day. As a music therapy major, Mr. Patton took an interest in me and my education and made his class content meaningful for what I do. His dedication to providing quality education and his real-life examples made all of this semester a meaningful experience for me. I felt like a valuable member in the class, and I know that because of this class and the content in it, I will be a better music therapist.

Dr. Pifer has not only served as an outstanding professor, but her mentorship has been invaluable in my success as an adult learner. I have been able to focus my efforts on classwork and understanding the value of lessons beyond what is learned in the classroom. Her patience has prevailed as her strongest asset to assisting students to get through the struggle and helps them realize the impact once applied in real-world scenarios. I would not be graduating if Dr. Pifer had not taken her personal time to mentor me through balancing my personal life and my academic endeavors. -
Robert Powers

College of Arts and SciencesDr. Powers is the most patient man I have ever met. He truly makes a difference in math education. Rachel Quick
SPHIS Administration
School of Public Health and Information SciencesRachel Quick has been nothing but a blessing in my life. As an incoming freshman, she has made me feel welcomed as well as even motivated to be the best student I can possibly be and an even better individual. Her passion for helping Public Health students shows through the personalized emails she sends to her most recent freshmen and the effort she puts in to meet with those who are struggling. The time she puts in to make sure we are not only physically healthy, but mentally healthy as well, is truly amazing and should not go unappreciated. College of Arts and SciencesI have worked closely with Dr. Rabin over the past two years as a student and her Supplemental Instructor. Her dedication and innovative approaches to education endear her to many. Please feel free to contact me for specific examples (of which I have many).

Shesh Rai
Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
School of Public Health and Information SciencesMy Ph.D. advisor, Dr. Shesh N. Rai, is an extremely helpful and wonderful person. He is always open to new ideas, dedicated to the betterment of his students. His immense patience and continuous guidance are helping me to develop research ideas, and I really enjoy working with him. Most importantly, he creates a welcoming learning environment making me comfortable to communicate. His "independent thinking, open-ended style" of guidance intimidates me sometimes as I come from a background where education is more like spoon-fed than working on your own, however, it has made me work harder putting forth more effort. I look forward to the next two years of my Ph.D. and hope to continually learn new skills and ideas from him. -
Srinivasan Rasipuram
Mechanical Engineering
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringI didn't do very well on the first exam. Afterwards, he took the extra effort and told me what I needed to improve on, which helped me not only pass the class but gain a better understanding of the material. His teaching style helps the students learn by focusing on the concept and allowing the students to reach the conclusion. He understands the perspective of the students and tries to cater to each student’s preferred learning style, assuming you go to his office hours. He remembers students’ names and engages in everyday conversations with them.
Professor Rasipuram really cares about his students. He is willing to take time out of his day to answer students’ questions, and the way he formats his classes is perfect. Rather than glazing over information, he stops to ask questions and ensure students are following along. I'm excited to be able to take classes with him in the future.
Everyone loves Dr. Rasipuram! He cares so much about his students and really wants them to understand the concepts, but he also loves talking to them about anything you could think of. His door is always open for students to ask questions or to just have a chat! He builds great friendships with everyone in the department. -
Caitlin Ray
English
College of Arts and SciencesCaitlin genuinely cares about her tutees in the writing center, and her dedication to foster success for those she works with always shines through. She goes above and beyond with every single student, from English 101 citations to dissertations. In a university of so many faculty and staff, I am reassured to know that Caitlin personally cares about my goals and aspirations in life. Without her expertise and guidance, I never would have been able to engage with my writing at such a deep level. So many of the opportunities I have been blessed with this semester are a direct result of Caitlin's expertise in different genres, positive outlook on life, and perseverance in the face of difficulties. Although Caitlin lives with a rare disease, she somehow finds the strength to make my life easier almost every day. I can't thank her enough for all that she has done for me, and I wish her the best in life. -
Liza Reader
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentLiza is such a thoughtful and thorough professor. She comes into class so energized and wants us to actually learn. Liza helps us to think critically and find solutions to everyday problems. I have learned and applied so much of what she has taught in the classroom to my everyday life on the rowing team. By explaining concepts in an interactive way, she captures my attention so I never feel the urge to look at my phone during class. Liza is willing to go out of her way to help you excel as a student. She demands a lot from us and has high expectations for us. I love how she structures her class and she makes it so individualized. Liza is so intelligent and really wants the best for the students. I have loved being her student because of her up-beat personality and her style of teaching. She is by far my favorite professor here at UofL because she genuinely cares about us. After every Thursday class, she reminds us, "Have a safe weekend, don't do drugs, stay warm!"
Prof. Reader is perhaps the best professor I have had when it comes to teaching in a way that I understand. No unnecessary jargon, but enough detail to allow for deep comprehension. I cannot wait to take further classes with Liza.
Professor Reader has been an outstanding professor in both HSS 388 and HSS 394! I have had the privilege of having her for both classes this year. She is smart, driven, and passionate about what she does and that definitely comes across to her students.

Liza Ledford displays an amazing enthusiasm for education and her students. Her energy for the course content is rivaled only by her knowledge and experience in organizational development. She is a true inspiration that drove me to achieve new levels in my education. Professor Ledford is truly deserving of this award. I hope to continue to learn more from her!
Great teacher. Inspired me to work hard and made learning enjoyable.
Liza is an amazing professor who is well-deserving of this award.
Professor Ledford is an extremely knowledgeable faculty member and goes above and beyond to explain in detail everything she is covering material-wise. She is also as eager to help students outside the classroom during office hours as she is inside the classroom. Her passion for the topics she lectures is evident in her teaching style which is very refreshing to experience as a student.
Liza is the most hands-on professor I have ever had. She makes complicated material easily digestible, and her experience in her field gives her a significant advantage over her peers. I would love to have her teach all of my exercise science classes. 10/10 would recommend.
Has always been more than open about discussing class topics/answering questions outside of designated class time and is a very fun teacher in the way she teaches her class. She is also very open to helping with personal exercise problems with students. She got married during the semester so her last name is no longer Ledford, and I believe it is Reader but not sure. -
Gregory Reinhardt
Computer Information Systems
College of BusinessReally enjoyed his class. Challenging, but he was extremely fair and helpful. Went out of his way a lot of times so help us. Great professor to have in Louisville. Very knowledgeable and student friendly. Felt like he thoroughly cared about us.
Professor Reinhardt was always willing to take the time needed and help any student with the material as struggles came. He was able to communicate effectively, efficiently, and respectfully towards each student. He seemed to enjoy the material but also helped students to learn and understand what he was teaching as well. Reinhardt was always in a great mood which carried over to his students.
Professor Reinhardt has been very helpful and respectful throughout this entire semester. He makes CIS less dreading, and I wish more professors were like him. Great enthusiasm!

Aaron Rollins
Urban and Public Affairs
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Aaron Rollins is a phenomenal mentor and instructor. As a graduate student working to complete my dissertation, Dr. Rollins stepped in and used his resources as well as skills to help me craft my methods. He provided endless feedback and helped me prepare for my defense. I appreciate his help and support as he was a great mentor through my doctoral journey.
Aaron has been my academic supervisor for all four years of my tenure in the Urban and Public Affairs Ph.D. program. I am his first GRA but you would never know it based on how well he has mentored me. While I was, of course, there to provide research assistance to him, he made it clear from the start that he was there to ensure my success getting through the program AND to assist as much as possible in preparing me for a position in academe if that was my goal. He has always responded quickly and deftly when I have needed assistance with my studies. He has provided expert advice and instruction in bringing my academic writing up several notches in quality. He has always treated me more like a colleague than a student or assistant by actively including me in his research projects and pushing me to write--some for which I have won awards. His mentorship and collaborative nature has contributed to our mutual development of a fruitful new area of research for both he and I in public sector practice in pursuit of justice and equity. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been assigned as his GRA and look forward to many years of collegial, beneficial collaboration. -
Kevin Rose
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Rose is a great facilitator and guide for students in this program. He has an excellent method for presenting information so that it can easily be consumed regardless of the recipient's academic background. Dr. Rose also takes the time to ensure that each of his students are fully aware of the course requirements, while also equipping his students to exceed them. He truly is an excellent educator and is very deserving of recognition.
Dr. Rose has been very helpful throughout the semester. As a new student, I was concerned about applying for an online graduate school. My overall experience has been great and the professors have been more than willing to assist with my questions, especially Dr. Rose. He is always willing to help by answering my questions by email, phone or scheduling a time to meet in online classroom. He is very thorough in his explanation of his expectations and how to improve your coursework. With all of the support I have received from UofL, I am very happy that I chose to attend. -

He never gets frustrated with his students and works with patience, compassion and understanding. Mr. Rummage deserve recognition for his hard work and how amazing of a teacher he is!

Shelley Santry
Brandeis School of LawShelley has been the most influential professor of my law school career. She is the director of the Ackerson Law Clinic, which provides pro-bono legal resources for those in need. She pushes me to be a better student, lawyer and advocate. Over the course of the last year, I have seen Shelley fight tirelessly for our clients. Watching her selfless devotion to those in need has inspired me to pursue public service volunteer opportunities and has made me genuinely love and appreciate my final year of law school. She taught me the most valuable legal skills I possess, and I can honestly say I have learned more with one year of Shelley, than I have the rest of my legal/law school career.
She goes above and beyond not just for students but for all the victims that we advocate for in the domestic violence clinic. Shelley is the best! -

School of DentistryI am an international dentist from India. I was accepted by the University of Louisville School of Dentistry to pursue a Master of Science in Oral Biology starting in Spring 2017. I was welcomed by Dr. Scott and his team to their lab. I was looking for a mentor who could guide me in a completely foreign land and push me to do my best. I found that mentor in Dr. Scott. He motivated me and encouraged me to learn new experimental techniques and at the same time gave me freedom to work on my own. I became confident about my abilities and also achieved GPA in my first semester. I believe that Dr. Scott is an extraordinary mentor. I highly recommend him for this nomination. I will always remember my first education in the US and with this confidence I will be able to achieve my dreams. Dr. Scott has definitely made a lot of difference in my life. -

College of Arts and SciencesDevarsh is the most unselfish person that I've met. There is never a time when you don't learn and understand something when Devarsh is explaining. College of Arts and SciencesComing into Philosophy 311, I knew nothing about the subject. I only took it because it's a requirement for nursing. In the beginning, I hated the class and was bored. As the semester went on, I had health issues and Dr. Shields was the most caring professor and went above and beyond to give me chances. This class is NOT a walk in the park, but Dr. Shields truly cares about every student. He knows our names and will always stay after class if we need help. He pushes the students to critically think and think in ways most of us never have before. I for one am so thankful I had him this semester. Not only is he caring, he's HIGHLY intelligent in his field. His knowledge is impeccable, and he deserves a lot of recognition for his commitment to higher learning and to his students. -

Brad Shuck
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentI am a soldier, and I attended the CFDC program for the Master’s in HEA. I thought the course was just another waste of time until I met Dr. Shuck. I was not going to pursue anything further after the summer. Dr. Shuck inspired me to reach new limits and don’t give up. His teaching method in class was some of the best instruction I have ever received in my 24 years in the military. It’s professors like Dr. Shuck that makes UofL the school it is. I am now scheduled to receive my Master’s this spring. I am proud and humbled that I have met people like Dr. Shuck. I know I am not the only soldier or civilian who has been inspired by the instruction of Dr. Shuck.
Dr. Shuck had an excellent course working us through our Lit Reviews! I learned so much that I never expected to pick up this late in my doctoral studies.
True to his background in employee engagement, Dr. Shuck empowers his students to explore their interests and makes each individual topic important. Over the two semesters I've had his classes, he has showcased a wide array of teaching methodologies and encouraged us to be creative with class presentations and in our own classrooms.
This man just gets it.
Dr. Shuck is excellent!
Dr. Shuck always goes above and beyond the nature of his role to ensure equality and fulfill the educational needs of all students. He is the true picture of an ambassador for the University of Louisville and should be honored with this recognition! -

She made me much more aware of events going on in the world, both locally and globally. She increased my awareness of how biology is a part of everyday life and the climate around us. Her passion for biology and for her students enthralled me to put forth my best effort in her class. She was very clear with what she required for her course and what she was expecting. She wanted all her students to succeed and if you put in the same amount of effort as her, you would succeed by a lot. I ended up with an A+ in biology because of her as a professor and that is why I am nominating her for the faculty favorite award. -

College of Arts and SciencesDr. Kaila Story is an awesome professor--one of the best I have ever had. She motivates her students to advocate and get involved. Her Intro to LGBTQ Studies and Black Lesbian Lives allowed for open discussions, creating a safe place for all students. Dr. Story is a professor of great prestige. She teaches her classes with pride, inspiring all her students. She inspired me to step up more this semester as a leader. I won the LGBTQ service award because of her inspiration. She even went out of her way to promote for student groups in her class. Dr. Story is more than a professor, she is a leader and a game changer for students. A special thank you to Dr. Story for the long-lasting impression she left on my education and my future. -
Sarah Strickley
English
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Strickley has truly made an impact on my college career that I will not soon forget. Though this year I am only a freshman, she has inspired and challenged me the entire semester in her ENGL 202 class. By providing a challenging curriculum, while offering ample support, I have seen much growth in my own writing, as well as those peers I have workshopped with. Before this class, I had very limited experience on how to go about writing creatively. This class has given me so many crucial tools and inspired me to keep writing beyond that. A truly great experience that I would recommend to anyone.
Dr. Strickley was an outstanding professor. She captured the spirit and essence of our online writing course in a way that for all intents and purposes made it seem like an in-class experience. Dr. Strickley was also available regularly for consultation in person and was always an enthusiastic coach. I not only learned how to write better; I also learned how to think more critically about writing, reading, and text analysis. -
Krista Sutherland
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Sutherland has tremendously helped me in my transition of being a college freshman. I would have never guessed it was her first year being a professor because of the excellent way that she teaches and engages with her students. She is very friendly, helpful, and consistent on what is to be completed/expected for her courses. I am in her COMM 111 class, so giving speeches is something I had to do while enrolled in this course. That is probably my least favorite thing to do, but Professor Sutherland helped me to grow out of that fear and made me a better speaker. I would highly recommend her to anyone. I wish I was able to be in more of her classes because she makes class enjoyable and provides a welcoming environment overall. She should definitely not go unrecognized for her great work! -

Her door is always open for students to come talk to her--whether it is about class or just about life.
Professor Sweeny promoted an interactive and challenging environment, and participation in her class has increased my writing ability on a professional level. -
Brock Symons
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentProfessor Symons is a phenomenal professor. He takes the time to really educate us and make sure we understand the concepts we discuss. He will work with each student individually if needed to help them understand each topic and structures exams so we have to know and apply information rather than memorize it for the exam and then forget it. Professor Symons’ class challenges his students but never overwhelms. He provides each student with a well-rounded and detailed education that will prepare them for their job in the future.
He is one of the most passionate about his subject. Extremely smart and willing to share that information and knowledge with the class. -

She has challenged me to become a better me and lifted me up when I was down. She always manages to go out of her own comfort zone to help others. I am amazed by this woman, and she is everything a favorite faculty award winner should consist of.

Daniela Terson de Paleville
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDaniella made my Neuromuscular Exercise Physiology class very interesting and interactive. She used many different methods to lecture instead of the typical lecture style. She used her knowledge of how the neurological pathways work to help learn so we could comprehend the information to remember for a while. We played jeopardy to answer questions, did lab assignments and had class discussions to make learning more interesting. Our visit to the Frazier Rehabilitation Institute was very interesting and made me love what we were learning about even more. She told me she could also help me with the interview process if I applied to work at the rehabilitation center which would be a big help. I’ve been working at UPS the last three and a half years on night shift, and I’d love to be able to work somewhere else instead so I would be able to be on a regular shift schedule. Daniella is a great teacher and shows that she really cares about her students. -
Shelley Thomas
Middle and Secondary Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Thomas co-taught one of my favorite classes this semester and truly changed the way I think about not only my profession of education, but also the world around me. Even though she said she isn't always a touchy-feely type of person, she set an example for how we should care for our future students by working hard to learn each of our names and engaging in conversations with us outside of class. She is truly passionate about making a difference in the lives of students by educating future teachers and sharing her research with us. I also appreciated that she and our other teacher, Dr. Penny Howell, started a unit on trauma-sensitivity in the field of education; it has really opened my eyes. They proposed that our class continue to meet in the following semesters so we can keep up our community and learn from each other’s experiences. I think I speak for all of my class when I say I look forward to continuing this relationship. -

Heather Turner
English
College of Arts and SciencesMs. Turner has a real passion for her field. Throughout the semester, Ms. Turner was always quick to respond to questions and did an excellent job of providing feedback on assignments. Most would say this is part of her job, but I would disagree with that assessment given my experience with online learning. It is difficult for student/professor contact during online courses, but Ms. Turner utilized Blackboard to give me excellent feedback on assignments. She made herself available via phone or email to answer any additional questions students may have. Additionally, she always ensured the class was well informed on deadlines and what was expected throughout the course. I wish all of my instructors shared her dedication. -
Joseph Turner
English
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Turner has been absolutely excellent this semester. Not only does he manage to keep the classroom lighthearted while pushing us students in the group discussions to better understand the texts, but he's gone above and beyond to help us improve our writing this semester. Furthermore, he has been fantastic help as a guide during my first steps through starting my senior honors thesis.
Whatever I write here truly won't do Dr. Turner justice. Simply put, Dr. Turner is the best professor at UofL. I say this not to be hyperbolic, but because I have never had a professor who is as invested in the courses he/she teaches and sincerely motivated to see his/her students succeed. A testament to that is just the sheer number of students who choose to take another course with him. He is on another level of intelligence, but that has never hindered him from breaking down the material in a way that beginners or people not as familiar with the topic should be able to understand. He is always encouraging and will never make you feel "dumb." Instead, he will redirect your thinking to a more salient feature of the text and prompt you to (as cliché as it sounds) "dig deeper." From personal experience, this has helped me refine my thought process and the ways in which I analyze the texts we read. Lastly, he takes the time to give individualistic, detailed feedback on papers/assignments that have not only helped me become a better writer, but also, thinker. Overall, it has been a privilege to have Dr. Turner as a professor.
Excellent class management organization. Well-designed syllabus mixing source materials, scholarly research and critical writing. Writing skill development was designed not only to satisfy the particular requirements of the liberal arts, but also the broader needs of professional written communication. As an "older" student who has experience in a professional/non-academic career, I know firsthand the value of this skill set. Joe Turner expertly blended all of these elements into a wonderful class experience. He did this in a large class setting (35+) with a mix of major and non-major elective students. All assignments were graded in a timely manner, and he was available to work on an individual basis with any student in the class.
Dr. Turner makes Chaucer come alive, which is impressive considering how long he’s been dead. His lectures are theatrical at times, poignant at others, and always engaging and informative. He truly cares about his subject and his students.
Professor Turner made the learning of Middle English and Chaucer fun. He encouraged exploration of different themes within the tales. He also set time aside to help his students talk through their ideas. I personally feel that this was one of the best classes I've had in my time at UofL. Most of what contributed to my enjoyment of the class was Prof. Turner's teaching style. He managed to find the perfect balance between discussion and lecture. He managed to provide a productive space for ideas to be shared, as opposed to a judgmental area that is unfortunately found in many English classes.
"Ideal teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own." -Nikos Kazantzakis All of UofL's educators are great! If I had to pick one though, I would hands down choose, Professor Joe Turner. In many ways, Professor Turner exceeds at his job as an educator. What makes him stand out from the other professors that I have had is the fact that he keeps in touch with you even if you are not taking one of his courses that semester. He makes sure you are doing okay and always offers advice or help. I have taken several courses with Professor Turner, and he goes over and beyond for his students. He not only makes sure you are keeping up with the material, he makes sure you know he is always there if you fall behind. Professor Turner is always available if you have any questions, and he is always willing to make time to meet with you to go into further detail to ensure that you understand. He is not only a great professor who knows the material he is teaching, but he genuinely cares about his students and his job. Even on semesters that his students are not in his class, he makes it known that if there is anything we need that his door is always open and to never hesitate to come to him. I have never seen or had a professor so committed to making sure his students succeed. He brings out the best in you and influences you not only to be a better student but to be a better version of yourself. I have a deep respect for Professor Turner and am forever grateful for always helping me when I needed it. He never made me feel like I was a burden or that he is too busy to help. If you ask me who my favorite professor is in the four years I have attended a university, Professor Joe Turner has gone beyond my expectations of what qualities a professor should have. He has definitely set the bar high for future professors. Thank you, Professor Turner, for everything!
Professor Turner is one of the best English professors I've ever had! He explains things so well and carefully. It really seems like he cares about his students, and his classes are so fun and interesting. I feel like we get to know each other and just have a good time talking about books instead of it being a mere lecture. He's really smart and a difficult grader but I like that because he is clear on how to improve, and he is really helpful and accessible in office hours all the time. -
Karen Turner
School of NursingShe is enthusiastic about her subject and it shows in her teaching. She cares about the students and that they gain the knowledge they need to be a safe nurse.
Dr. Turner is the epitome of humble professionalism. She teaches in such a beautiful, clear, and concise way. The School of Nursing does not yet have a simulation mannequin that is able to give birth. Dr. Turner could have taught us intrapartum nursing skills by assigning videos and worksheets. Instead, this Doctorate of Nursing Practice superwoman pretended to give birth 20 times for 20 different groups of students. I learned so much during this simulation, and I am grateful for the experience. I am privileged to have professors who are willing to humble themselves for the sake of my learning. -

Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Twyford practices the techniques that she teaches! She is the most customer service-oriented professor I have interacted with at UofL. Dr. Twyford is organized, clear, and prompt, and I have found myself mimicking her style of professionalism in my own career. Thank you, Dr. Twyford, for being an excellent example and a thoughtful instructor. -
Larry Tyler
Engineering Fundamentals
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringDr. Tyler's ENGR 102 class had a lot of content to cover, but he was great at explaining the concepts and answering any questions about the material. He also kept the lectures interesting by telling stories and jokes along with Dr. Ralston. -
Robert Urekew
Philosophy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Urekew really helped me transition from high school to college. He made me feel comfortable in a new setting and really makes learning fun. He engages the class instead of just lecturing, and he encourages his whole class to do their best. He is just an amazing person and an even better professor!
Professor Urekew generally cares for the success of his students. He is quite knowledgeable and kindhearted. He made the classes interesting and insightful. -
Lynn Usher
Economics
College of BusinessSuper funny! Always in a great mood. Makes learning so easy!
I re-took Econ 201 with Usher and it was eye opening. I went into this class hating the topic and not eager to learn. But Professor Usher's way of teaching made it fun and easy to learn the material. She was very available and made me feel comfortable in the class. She wanted everyone to feel appreciated and know they are smart enough and that's what I felt each class. She is the best professor I have had so far at UofL!
One of the professors I felt actually cared if I succeeded! -
Paula Von Loewenfeldt
English
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Von has made such a positive impact on my life. She deserves this more than anyone! I strive to have her attitude and motivation in life, and I am thankful that our paths crossed.

Lisa Wagner
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Wagner genuinely cares about students and their progress in all the best ways she has facilitated an encouraging classroom environment, and because of her, I have decided to further my learning of Spanish in the pursuit of a double major.
Fantastic professor! A very hard-working lady who deserves to be recognized.
Wonderful teacher and all-around wonderful woman. Love having classes with her, and I know many classmates who agree. We <3 Lisa.
Dr. Wagner was a very encouraging and uplifting professor. She acknowledged that the content we were learning was difficult while giving us the tools we needed to succeed. She was also open to students coming to see her if they had any trouble or any doubts about the course. Her concerns stretched past the classroom. Dr. Wagner encouraged us to study abroad, attend Spanish film festivals, along with various other activities that would develop our understanding of a new language and become appreciative of a culture different from our own. This is encouraging and comforting due to the events occurring in our country, so to know that there is someone on campus who cares about diversity and different regions is heartwarming. She is an all-around great person, and I hope that she continues to teach here at UofL for years to come so she has the opportunity to inspire others as she has inspired me. -
D. Gaye Waldie
School of NursingMs. Waldie is an absolutely fantastic teacher. From last semester in Pathophysiology and Pharmacology to this semester in Health Assessment, she never ceased to amaze me with her knowledge. She always gave us material in a way that was interesting and made us want to learn. She also was always there via time in her office, a text or an email for any and all questions, even if the question wasn't from her class. She is a class act and the University of Louisville-Owensboro campus is lucky to have her!
Ms. Waldie is amazing. Not only is she prepared for her lectures any time we need help, she goes above and beyond to make sure we understand. -
Justin Walker
Brandeis School of LawProfessor Walker is a fantastic professor, and he has a great passion for teaching.
Prof. Walker is a profoundly dedicated and incredibly knowledgeable professor. He goes above and beyond to meet with students, explain difficult concepts, and provide helpful feedback to an extent that I have never seen in another instructor.
Professor Walker is an amazing teacher. But he is an even better person. He is always there to help with anything you have to ask. -
Kandi Walker
Communication
College of Arts and SciencesKandi goes out of her way to make sure students are getting the most out of their education. She keeps the class entertained and well-informed academically so students have a reason to love learning. -
Sherri Wallace
Political Science
College of Arts and SciencesWhen I decided to take her class, it was in the interest in wanting to gain a better understanding of the power structures between white and black Americans. I am forever changed from what I have learned in this class, and in particular, the writing assignments attached to the lessons. I genuinely feel that if Americans were provided the information that I learned about in this class as a required course in a K-12 setting, we would be better off as a country. The quote at the bottom of the instructions for the last assignment, “You are no longer innocent. You are condemned to awareness.”--I certainly do not feel condemned so much as grateful. -
Krista Wallace-Boaz
Performance Studies
School of MusicShe is very considerate and holds students' attention well when she teaches. -
Pete Walton
Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences
School of Public Health and Information SciencesI would like to say something very important that we can all learn from Pete Walton and how he impacted me. First, Pete has a creative and decorative mind, and as we all know, very opinionated and thinks outside of the box. This is something to admire all in itself. The method of teaching his Capstone class was not perfect, however, he was on the track to teaching students learning through critical thinking, emotion and experience, and I believe this is a very important component that is missing from education, so please keep this in mind and keep this alive. I came to Pete’s office my junior year of college very frustrated at the way his class was structured and concerned with the way he wanted us to do things. When I came to his office, he sat with me for two and a half hours and listened to me about my project, my frustrations I had with him, my concerns I had about my decision to pursue public health. At the beginning of our session, I cried to Pete explaining my stresses and depression I had been going through since first coming to Louisville. Pete offered that I call him every day or as much as I needed to just so I could tell him about my day and to feel some sort of support. I don't know about you, but NEVER has a professor in my college career, out of the three colleges I have attended, offered something so selfless and valuable. I never did call Pete to inform him about my days and how my depression was coming along, but I will never forget the vulnerable and kind gesture he made to me. That type of work is not in his job description, yet he was compassionate enough to care and that is what makes good professors and good people. So, farewell to Pete, you will be missed at the University of Louisville, and I wish you a gentle, sarcasm-filled happy life :) This is actually very cliché but stay true to yourself. We need more people like you in our world! -
Ahmad Washington
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Washington is at the forefront of innovating the education of educators to better serve the needs of the urban student population in Louisville. This is an initiative, and Dr. Washington himself, is a force to be reckoned with. The University of Louisville, and specifically the College of Education and Human Development, is lucky to have him.
Dr. Washington is a wonderful professor. He challenges students to think outside the box and not be afraid to express our ideas. He cares about students actually learning and provides an atmosphere to do so. He cares about our well-being and helps us find resources to help us further our scholastic careers.
Dr. Washington is dedicated to the success of the school counseling and counselor education programs at UofL. He challenges his students to grow and human helpers and as humans, and he seems to be always available to help students in need. Dr. Washington has been an exceptional counselor educator as he has helped me prepare for my transition into my professional career. He encourages students to think critically and to elevate the profession of counseling for the betterment of society.
Dr. Washington is incredibly helpful and a very engaging professor.
Dr. Washington is my advisor and my professor. Without his guidance and support, I don’t think I would have completed my program. I'm not the best student, but I work hard. When you have a professor who has your back and supports you... it goes a long way.
Dr. Washington is the greatest!
Dr. Washington is an amazing teacher and advisor. He is the most adaptable, fun-loving, hard-working professor. He does things to help you learn things in a different way if you don't understand and takes personal interest in student success. He is very passionate about his teaching and is connected to his students. -
Jonathan Watkins
REACH--GEN 103/104
Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student SuccessMy instructor was awesome! He was always willing to help and went out of his way to make sure his students were performing to the highest of their abilities. He made math more enjoyable and seemed to really enjoy the subject.
I loved having him as an instructor. He made sure I was successful and made sure I had plenty of help to pass my course.
This professor is very helpful and has a great attitude. He wants every student to succeed and makes sure that is known.
Mr. Watkins is by far the best math teacher I have ever had! I've always been pretty good at math, but he is just so kind and knows exactly how to teach every student to make sure they understand everything. He sends out daily reminders so we never forget anything and always has a good attitude about being in class.
Professor really cares about whether or not we understand the material as opposed to a letter grade. -
Robin Weiss
Health Management and Systems Sciences
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Weiss does a great job in making what is relatively dry material very engaging, while pushing us to be more involved within the class. By balancing her knowledge with the textbook material presented by the class, we are able to gain a new insight into the world of human resources. -
Monica Wendel
Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences
School of Public Health and Information SciencesShe is a wonderful instructor, mentor, and thinker and is focused on increasing justice in the community, as well as building the next generation of leaders in our field.
Dr. Monica Wendel is not afraid to engage in the tough "stuff." Whether it’s examining the relevance and utility of course material, or ensuring that her students are healthy, she steps up to the plate to foster opportunities for students to develop, heal, and benefit from the experience of her class. It is GREATLY appreciated! -
Christine Wiggins-Romesburg
Educational Leadership, Evaluation, and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentMs. Wiggins-Romesburg was not my easiest professor this term, but she was always there for support. She made me a better student by setting high standards. -
Jake Wildstrom
Mathematics
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Wildstrom has a brilliant mind and is an excellent explainer of complicated mathematical concepts. His enthusiasm for his subject makes what could be very boring lectures, actually fun. Professor Wildstrom cares about his students and is very easily reachable even during strange hours. I go to his office hours at least once a week, and he is always incredibly helpful. He never makes me feel dumb even when I ask very dumb questions. I have so much appreciation for him, and I hope to take many classes with him in the future.
Professor Wildstrom is phenomenal. Every lecture was riveting, and he was incredibly available outside of class. It was not uncommon to get pages of an emailed response from him in regard to questions I had. Really nice, very competent guy. -
Jordan Wilfong
Kent School of Social WorkJordan is such a compassionate, empathetic, and dedicated professor. I have had him for multiple classes and have recommended him to others coming into the Kent School of Social Work. -
Carrye Wilkins
REACH
Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student SuccessShe's a breath of fresh air! I'm not good at math by any means, but Carrye Wilkins spent many of her lunch breaks teaching me math. She single-handedly made, no excuse me, MAKES me believe I can do math. She taught me concepts, and she was very patient with me. She believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. She's a wonderful professor, and I have nothing but glowing reviews of her and positivity towards her!
Ms. Wilkins is an amazing and patient professor. She was more than willing to help and go above and beyond to make sure I understood the material. -
Allison Williams
Middle and Secondary Education
College of Education and Human DevelopmentShe was fantastic! She really opened my mind to new theories that are research based. She is very personable and always willing to help! I learned a lot in her class and would recommend her to my fellow classmates! -
Bronwyn Williams
English
College of Arts and SciencesBronwyn has been a delight for his students and his employees this semester. He is always positive and lighthearted, wearing a genuine smile on his face every day. He takes the extra time to explain concepts, gives fair evaluations, and his feedback is priceless. I have had the privilege of working for Bronwyn at the University Writing Center this semester and attending his ENGL 604 graduate-level class. He exemplifies the definition of a mentor, and I am a better graduate student, employee, and person because of his guidance.
Bronwyn is not only a great professor, but a wonderful person. The only thing he is more passionate about than writing is people, and he is always there to lend a helping hand, offer advice, or just listen to you vent your college stresses. Not to mention, he always seems to have an interesting metaphor for any situation. As a first-year MA English student, I have enjoyed learning from and working with such a fantastic, compassionate, and enthusiastic individual. I really hope you consider him for this award--he truly does deserve it. Thank you! -
Marissa Williams
Academic Advising Center
College of Arts and SciencesComing here as a new student from California was difficult for me. I was worried about coming to a new school where I didn't know anyone, the campus life, and most importantly, the resources to learning what UofL has to offer. When I met Marissa, she cleared everything up in just one meeting. She was nice and patient with answers to every question I had written down in my notebook, even when our time slot was over. I nominate Marissa for her assistance outside the classroom, for outside the classroom is just as important as in class and helped me establish myself here in Louisville. -
Michael Williams
Comparative Humanities
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Williams teaches his classes with great enthusiasm. I have learned well in his class, and I would love to be able to take a class with him again. I would do it just for the heck of it! To watch him be passionate about what he teaches and for him to want the students to be as well. -
Gerard Williger
Physics and Astronomy
College of Arts and SciencesDr. Williger is one of those unique professors who actually looks at things from a student's perspective. He understands the difficulties his students will face upon graduation and constantly works to help his students avoid or overcome those difficulties. He focuses on preparing his students to get a job or acceptance into graduate school, not just learning the material in his class.
This is my first semester back at university in over 10 years. It goes without saying that returning to earn my MS/PhD and start my second career in astrophysics has been challenging, intimidating, and humbling. I met Dr. Williger in 2015, when I introduced myself as a future PhD student. Since then, Dr. Williger has been a generous, compassionate advisor--even when I was not yet enrolled. In Fall 2017, I took his PHYS 507 Solar System Astronomy course. As a lecturer, he is thorough and engaging, yet rigorous. Dr. Williger dedicates the time after each class and by appointment to his students, which was to my benefit. Rather than providing answers, he encourages us to develop an intuition for how the universe works. He sets the bar high, but his mission in life is to help us reach it. I enthusiastically nominate Dr. Williger for the Faculty Favorite Award! -
Cody Windhorst
Health and Sport Sciences
College of Education and Human DevelopmentProfessor Windhorst is absolutely the most organized, demanding, and real professors I have had the opportunity to meet. She makes the learning fun while ensuring that we are given the guidance, activities, and experiences to master the standards. She is an excellent teacher who knows her content and delivers it to her students to ensure success. Most of all, however, she is compassionate and cares about her students. She has made my UofL experience positive through her passionate, realistic, and supportive approach to learning. -
Elaine Wise
Comparative Humanities/English
College of Arts and SciencesProfessor Wise is the most compassionate and caring professor I have had at my time here at UofL. She is so knowledgeable, and it’s obvious that she truly cares about what she is teaching and in making sure that her students understand and enjoy her class. I have taken her two times for two different classes, and my opinion of her has not changed. She has greatly impacted my learning experience these past two years, and I am sure she will continue to do so for her students in the future. Professor Wise is an amazing teacher, and I believe her compassion and love should be displayed. -
Hongryun Woo
Counseling and Human Development
College of Education and Human DevelopmentDr. Woo is amazing and flexible with her teaching techniques. Her passion for the field always shows through her lecture and discussion. I really enjoyed taking her course and gaining the necessary knowledge and skills I needed, especially as a first-year graduate student in this department. -
Erin Wotring
History
College of Arts and SciencesIf someone could guarantee me that all history classes are taught as well as the one she taught, I'd probably switch majors.
She made learning material so easy! The online content she shared was engaging and relevant to what we were studying. She enjoys sharing what she knows and is very enthusiastic and upbeat in her lectures. -
Andrew Wright
Computer Information Systems
College of BusinessHe was the best teacher I had this semester. His course is structured in a way that you can succeed in his class and provide an important skill of programming to your repertoire. He is always willing to help when you are stuck on programs!
Dr. Wright has been very helpful when it comes to being available outside of class to further explain C# concepts.
Dr. Wright has encouraged me in my major/career choice and is always available and helpful whenever called upon. He keeps an upbeat attitude at all times as well. Delight of a teacher. I wish he taught more classes. -
Imelda Wright
School of NursingImelda goes above and beyond for her students to ensure their success and for that I am so grateful. She got my first semester of nursing school off to a great start and helped build skill and confidence in myself to ensure that I will be successful in the future.
Professor Wright has been instrumental in my learning this semester. She possesses a deep knowledge in her subject and excitement in her student's learning. She created a sense of community and a collaborative, supportive environment. She was respectful, enthusiastic, and caring at all times. I loved that she wanted us to learn and was willing to spend extra time with individuals so that they could become more confident in their skills.
Ms. Imelda Wright is the best teacher I've had in the School of Nursing. Her guidance, patience, and kindness have helped to shape me into a competent and confident future nurse. She possesses exceptional knowledge in her field, and her instructional methods reflect this. She is an extremely valuable asset to the University of Louisville. -
Ming Wu
Classical and Modern Languages
College of Arts and SciencesShe works so hard, and she accommodates the students with disabilities very well. I think she really deserves something like this!
Dr. Wu is one of the best professors I’ve had. She’s an excellent instructor, and her passion for teaching Chinese motivates me to work harder. She is extremely accessible outside of class and willing to do whatever she can to help her students succeed. I’m grateful to have had her. -
Dongfeng Wu
Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
School of Public Health and Information SciencesDr. Wu is very expert at lecturing the class. I could master the content in the class so clearly with the help of her. I am so thankful. -
Roman Yampolskiy
Computer Engineering and Computer Science
J.B. Speed School of EngineeringAmazing professor. I didn't know anything about programming going in, and he was able to give me a very solid background in programming and will seek to take him again.
He was very insightful and a valuable resource for learning to program in a real-world manner.
Provides easy-to-understand examples, works with students to make sure they understand, makes sure to address questions, hilarious and friendly.
Professor Yampolskiy does a fantastic job of teaching C and C++ in a way that peaks your curiosity and gives you a desire to learn more.
Yampolskiy teaches the concepts clearly, shows clear interest in his students, is fair in his grading and with class policies, and is a very likeable and funny person. I also appreciate the fact that his expertise extends beyond being a professor and that he's an established member of the AI research community.
Dr. Yampolskiy is a wonderful professor. He is an interesting lecturer. I feel that I have learned a lot this semester.
A
Course layout and workload furthered my learning greatly in this area. I am happy with Yampolskiy's course.
Really helps students understand the material. Cares about students' success and encourages them. The material taught in his courses is difficult, but he makes it approachable.
Fantastic professor. Very easy to follow material and posts materials that are easily accessible so we can learn independently outside of the classroom if need be.
The best
His AI class was a lot of work but paid off.
Professor Yampolskiy is one of the best professors I've had at the University of Louisville.
He's great
Does a wonderful job in the setup of his courses. Really cool and laid back. Easy to talk to. All around the perfect professor.
Engaging and creative, even with a large lecture.
I had Dr. Yampolskiy for AI this semester and this class was the only class in my four years of university here that I've actually enjoyed going to every day. I was always engaged and interested in his material, and his teaching style was easy to understand while still going in depth. He's by far one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. I wish every class was taught by him.
Dr. Yampolskiy's artificial intelligence course is one of the most well-structured courses I have taken at UofL, and Yampolskiy's demeanor and promptness in helping students reflects the well-organized nature of the course, making it one of the most enjoyable courses I've taken as well.
He was such a great professor! I would recommend him to anyone wanting to go into the Computer Engineering/Computer Science field. Very funny, but also very helpful. His lectures were always very enlightening.
He was number one. Honestly, he is a stellar teacher who has a great passion in indulging his students with fascinating areas of computer science.
Had a very nice time in his class. He taught the subject very effectively. Made me excited for the rest of my journey as a Speed School computer engineer major that I've been nervous about for a while. He has a great personality and seemed to really care to help his students.
Good command of the subject.
I very much enjoyed his lectures and the time he puts into teaching and research and all the writing he does.
Great programming knowledge
Dr. Yampolskiy is an absolute genius who's pushing the world forward in artificial intelligence ethics and invented Intellectology to find out what makes things fun. He's got his own Wikipedia and has one of the highest rating records on Rate My Professors, and yet he's been instructing the "Intro to" for CECS--if that and his hilarious jokes doesn't qualify for favorite teacher, then I must not know what the word favorite means. Hands down, top faculty.
Awesome teacher
Dr. Yampolskiy makes a hard subject way easier. Also, he is very willing to work with students outside of class hours.
Excellent professor!
A
It was a fairly enjoyable, informative class. Yampolskiy is quite entertaining in class, and the class goes through all of the nuisances of the basics of programming.
Dr. Yampolskiy is one of the greatest professors I've ever had, and I'm so happy I was able to take his Artificial Intelligence course during my time at UofL. I found myself always looking forward to going to his lectures, and his positive attitude towards both the students and the course material made the class rewarding and very enjoyable. I will, without a doubt, be using the knowledge I gained from his course for the rest of my life!
He's a great professor!
He genuinely cares about his students and the work he does to teach them programming languages in the CECS 130 course. I am incredibly grateful to have had Dr. Yampolskiy this past Spring 2018 semester. -
