Faculty Favorites 2014-2015

About the Award

All faculty, staff, and graduate teaching assistants who receive nominations receive a formal letter of recognition from the Provost, along with a certificate, and are invited to attend the Faculty Favorite Reception, to be held during the lunch program at the 2016 Celebration of Teaching and Learning on Friday, February 12, 2016, at Shelby Campus. All student nominations are also posted on the Faculty Favorite Award website.

Additionally, there will be a smaller pool named as top nominees, with no more than one nominee per department, drawn from those who receive the most nominations. These "Top" Faculty Favorites will be recognized campus-wide through UofL Today and on a banner that is displayed on the front of Ekstrom Library in early February. Instructors are eligible to be featured as a "Top" Faculty Favorite every four years.

2015-2016 Nomination Periods

The fall 2015 nomination period opens on November 16 and closes on December 18.

The spring 2016 nomination period opens on April 4 and closes on May 6.

    Civil and Environmental Engineering
    J.B. Speed School of Engineering
He has been by far the best professor I have had in my collegiate career. Every class, no matter how difficult the subject, he has made easy and enjoyable to learn.

There is no one better than French.

I learned so much about hydraulics from Dr. French. He is by far the best teacher I've had in SPEED, inside and outside the classroom.

I have never had a teacher be so willing to personally work one-on-one with each student, even if this meant changing his personal schedule.

Made class fun and related material to real-life examples, not just chapters in a book!

Dr. French goes above and beyond to ensure all students can effectively and efficiently learn through real-world application and interactive classroom techniques in his Hydraulics and Hydrology courses. He provides pertinent examples and visual aids, solidifying our understanding of topics. Dr. French engages us and enthusiastically allows for student participation in the learning process, as opposed to the average dry lecture. I have been impressed by his dedication to the department, the students and the university.

He is great in and out of the classroom! He genuinely cares about his students' well-being.

Dr. French is the best professor Speed School has. He is always available to help and makes our grade dependent on tricky projects and take-home tests that are very thorough, so we learn tons more than we do in other classes with a quarter of the stress. His class presentations are easy to follow and help us understand hydraulics right from the start. However much the university is paying him is not enough; he should be teaching all of our classes and making 1 mil a year.

    School of Nursing
Ms. Mitchel is the best instructor in the School of Nursing. Her goal is to truly teach you the content so that you can be successful in the future. I wish more instructors could teach the way that she does. She's awesome!

Ms. Mitchell makes lectures interesting and easy to understand.

    Best teacher ever!

Ms. Mitchell is by far the best professor I have had throughout my entire college career. She takes boring, difficult class material and not only finds a way to make it make sense, but also makes it interesting. I cannot even express the amount of knowledge I have gained from her lectures. She is an amazing teacher who truly cares about her students.

Ms. Mitchell is an excellent teacher and mentor. She is inspirational and shows a true interest and belief in her students. During the lecture, she always makes the material more interesting and personal by sharing her experiences as a nurse with the class. She also records her lectures on Tegrity, which is a bonus to all of us that like to listen to them again to ensure that we understand the material. This semester, Ms. Mitchell went the extra mile by coming to our clinical for a day. It was wonderful having her there. She sat down with our clinical group during lunch, and she fielded questions left and right about the nursing process and future career options. I hope she is rewarded this Faculty Favorite Award to show her that we care for her as much as she cares for us.

Ms. Mitchell is by far the most invested and helpful of all the professors I've encountered at the School of Nursing. She makes herself available to her students, is very knowledgeable, and has a way of presenting information in a way that makes sense and is easy to remember. All of the members of my cohort speak extremely highly of her, as she is very kind, efficient, and makes all the effort she can to help students learn and make sure their grades are reflective of that.

Ms. Mitchell is one of the best professors at the SON. She goes above and beyond for each student. She is always prompt when you email her. Her teaching style is compatible with understanding and putting to use what she lectures over. I'm thankful that I was able to have her as a professor during my time at UofL.

Heather Mitchell is such an inspiration to all of us! She's positive, uplifting, and encourages us to be the best that we can be. She believes in us, and I believe that I would not be the nursing student I am without her amazing teaching and encouragement!

Ms. Mitchell is actively engaging, very organized, and very knowledgeable. Best professor I have had!

She's an amazing teacher. She cares about her students and wants you to be the best nurse you can possibly be. She is overall the most influential teacher.

She makes learning fun and helps us apply nursing knowledge in every way imaginable.

    She is my favorite.

Ms. Mitchell is the best professor I've ever had.

Ms. Mitchell is an exceptional teacher. She makes learning difficult material interesting and clear.

    Psychological and Brain Sciences
    College of Arts and Sciences
I really enjoyed this professor! He was fun, loved his subject, and very friendly. His tests were not easy, but he took time to make sure all questions were fair and looked at the stats for each question to make sure he didn't need to make adjustments to the grades. (This is a lot more than most professors will do!)

Wonderful teacher! He is highly intelligent on the subject matter and is always willing to answer questions. Dr. Noles adds a nice mixture of humor into the lectures as well!

Best psych teacher ever! He makes learning cognitive psych easy.

Dr. Noles is probably one of the most engaging professors I've ever had. His teaching style and interaction is one of the main reasons I didn't miss a class all semester. When considering that upper-level psychology classes can be really dense, he did a great job at thoroughly explaining concepts by answering any and all questions we had, used various forms of media to show examples, and really kept me engaged in actually learning the material. I honestly look forward to when I'm able to take another class of Dr. Noles'.

Very entertaining and warm environment. Before the course, I had very low expectations (especially since I didn't actually "like" kids), but after taking this course, I learned a lot and found his lectures very interesting. Professor Noles taught many applicable tips that I plan to use when raising my future children (yes, I now plan on having children haha).

His class was very engaging. He was always willing to answer a student's question in class, which often times isn't the case. Tests were difficult, but the classes went into good detail. My favorite professor this year.

Dr. Noles was one of the best professors I have had, and I hope he continues being a great instructor. The classes were very interactive, which kept your attention on less memorable topics. The ONE thing that puts him over the top and ahead of his peers was when he used his poetic talents to recite a strong and empowering line from "All About that Bass" by Meghan Trainor.

    He was a wonderful professor!

He made class really fun and interesting.

Dr. Noles has been my favorite teacher in the Psychology Department to date. He is engaging, as well as entertaining, in the classroom and is more than happy to explain complex concepts multiple times to ensure the bulk of the class understands them. Even outside of the classroom, Dr. Noles actively helps his students who may be having trouble with issues related to their classroom performance. I have taken Dr. Noles for two classes in the Psychology Department, against the advice of my peers, and I have not only excelled in them, but I have a better grasp of the material than they had with their "easier" professors. Dr. Noles does not baby his students. He is respectful to all of us and may have high expectations for the people in his classes, but that is because he is trying to sculpt concepts like self-reliance and discipline that can only help us in our academic futures.

Dr. Noles was very helpful in learning how to write a research paper for psychology, as well as being a great resource for students and very knowledgeable.

Class was really interesting and fun. There was never a class where there wasn't something funny or fun to listen to.

He is a great teacher. He pushes his students to be better. He does not want anyone to fail and is really helpful.
  • Click to Show/HideBrad Shuck
Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development
College of Education and Human Development
Dr. Shuck is the most genuine and hardworking professor ever. As a first-time online student, living outside of the United States (in the Bahamas), Dr. Shuck was very helpful in getting me acquainted with Blackboard and also with understanding all of the course materials about Research. Writing has never been a strong point for me, in my opinion, so it made me very intimidated to do research. This fall, I took ELFH 617 - Evidence Based Research in Human Resources and Organization Development (HROD) with Dr. Shuck and Jake, his teaching assistant. To say the least, I was not excited about taking this class. However, now that the course is almost completed, I must honestly say that I am so glad that I took this course. Dr. Shuck and Jake answered all my questions and in a timely manner. I mean there would be times I would feel so "dumb" for asking such simple questions via email or in class, and I would feel so out of the loop and disconnected because I am literally and figuratively so far away from UofL. However, Dr. Shuck made me feel quite "at home" in class. He emailed us every week about the upcoming week (assignments, what to expect, etc.) and gave us encouragement along the way. In the beginning, my classmates and I felt discouraged and overwhelmed, as students can often feel during the semester, but Dr. Shuck kept us motivated, informed and pushed us to believe in ourselves. I'm not sure if he will win the award, but I just wanted it to be public knowledge that Dr. Shuck is an excellent professor, especially for first-time students. I wish him all the best at UofL. He has truly helped me to believe in the phrase "live without regrets and learn without borders."

I have had many instructors over the last six years but none more engaging, more positive and motivational than Brad. He makes learning (adult) interesting, relevant and applicable to today's market. I wish I could take more classes from him ... his passion for teaching and subject knowledge is beyond reproach.

Dr. Shuck is a consistent and forthcoming professor who constantly engages and assists his students before, during, and after the semester. I have not had Dr. Shuck in class in more than a year, and he has continued to support and assist me personally and professionally more than even my advisor. I have spoke to Dr. Shuck via phone and emailed more in a month than my advisor in a year. Dr. Shuck is caring, professional, and a true leader to emulate.

    Great enthusiasm and creative teacher!

Dr. Brad Shuck has been of tremendous help to my education in both the two classes I have had him and as well as navigating the distance education program as a whole. His outstanding communication and fantastic personality has helped to reaffirm my decision to partake in UofL's online education. I did not have a professor half as helpful and approachable during my undergraduate education at another university. He is a high-caliber educator who deserves to be recognized for his efforts. Dr. Shuck represents the Department of Educational Leadership, Evaluation and Organizational Development and the University of Louisville well. He has consistently gone above and beyond to help me with any issue I have encountered. As both a professor and an academic advisor, I know I can come to him with a problem and receive help in a timely manner. His knowledge and passion has made him one of the best educators I have had the pleasure of working with during my long educational career. He has been a great asset in my educational journey with the University of Louisville.

Dr. Shuck's online class for ELFH 312-50: DESIGNING LEARNING was great. The way he presents the material was the best I've had in my online learning experience. Very personable and quick to respond to any question I had all semester.

Dr. Shuck is real. He's more than a "professor" or an "instructor." In moments of doubt and uncertainty, he rebuilds your confidence and guides you in the right direction. There were many challenges that I encountered during my first semester of graduate school. Dr. Shuck was always there to help--in fact, I was amazed by his quickness in responding to emails. He didn't just send a scripted response; his responses were personal and always catered specifically to my issue or situation. My concerns were always addressed completely and quickly and with the utmost compassion. In addition to his availability and responsiveness, his ability to motivate his students is something I am in awe of. Dr. Shuck goes above and beyond, not only relating his content to real-life examples, but making sure that everyone walks away with a crystal clear understanding of expectations and content. Although his class was the most difficult class I've encountered at UofL to this point, it was also the most rewarding. Brad Shuck is a world-class professor and an admired mentor who places an unbelievable amount of faith in his students. In return, it's evident that his students also believe in him.

Dr. Brad Shuck and Dr. William Gibson are both outstanding instructors.

Dr. Beattie is without a doubt one of the best teachers I have ever had. He teaches with remarkable scholarship and historical insight, as well as with excellent storytelling and sharp wit. His classes are challenging yet fair. Dr. Beattie has taken our class on an epic historical journey this semester, and I am truly sorry to see it end.

When it comes to giving a good lecture, Dr. Beattie has set the bar incredibly high. He is a phenomenal public speaker, and I have never met another professor who could teach with such a dynamic, humorous, and informative style. I never thought a history class could serve as entertainment, but Dr. Beattie's class certainly fits that description. This is not mindless entertainment however, and the amount of knowledge I gained from listening to his lectures was staggering. Taking Dr. Beattie's class reminded me of why I chose to study history in the first place, and his passion for what he was teaching rekindled my own excitement and love for this amazing field in which I am privileged to study.

Dr. Beattie is very engaging, and he always kept my attention. He is interested in what he teaches and that made a big difference for me. His lectures felt more like one-on-one conversations instead of him just talking at a big group of students which is effective, in my opinion. He is very intelligent. I will miss getting to learn from him.

    Always engaging and riveting lecturer.

He gets me excited to learn and to interact with my classmates!

I don' think there is any professor like Dr. Bergman. I've never met someone that is so passionate and authentic regarding his work. He believes in what he teaches, but more importantly, he believes in his students. His no-nonsense approach to education is a trait I will adopt in my future academic studies and professional career. Before I met Dr. Bergman, I was insecure and doubtful I could achieve a bachelor's degree. Today I am certain I will hold a doctorate degree in my hands at the end of my academic career. He is an asset not only to U of L, but the Commonwealth of Kentucky, as he produces quality graduates. I hope I can someday pay it forward in honor of what he has done for my peers and my future. Most educators agree that students need supportive environments at any academic level. Dr. Bergman provides people with the strength and fortitude to confront the overwhelming obstacles they are bound to face in life. Something tells me he will move beyond being a professor. I can easily see Dr. Bergman in an administrative role because of his intense passion.

Matt is a fantastic professor. He makes sure we understand the concepts and always gives us something we can use that week in our real lives.

Dr. Bergman is very responsive to the needs of his students.

Awesome leader, provided excellent career guidance, and a true role model.

Dr. Bergman was an inspirational educator in my experience at UofL. His methods of teaching and emphasis on quality student interaction was important to my own success as an undergraduate student and a working adult learner. Dr. Bergman has inspired me in numerous ways to advance my education, from the online discussion boards to one-to-one sessions over the telephone. Despite studying from the state of South Carolina, I always felt involved and valued when attending Dr. Bergman's courses.

Mr. Bernstein shows so much care for his students and has an incredible passion for teaching. I have had Mr. Bernstein as a professor, and I have worked along side him on the Conversations with Champions committee, and he carries that same passion in anything that he does. It has been a pleasure having him in class and working with him on CwC. With leaders like Mr. B, there is no secret why our program is one of the best in the country.

Mr. Bernstein is an outstanding professor who truly creates a unique learning environment in the classroom. He creates a comfortable environment in which discussion and critical thinking are both highly encouraged and facilitated. I have now taken five different classes taught by Mr. Bernstein and each one is more and more enjoyable. He is absolutely deserving of this award and much more. He is an exemplary teacher and an even better person.

The classroom environment he creates is unique--it is a mixture of seminar and lecture, always flexible to meet the learning needs of students. Furthermore, his grading is conducive to true learning in that, even if you disagree with him, if you back up your argument, you will not be punished with a bad grade. When he does take points off, he is one of the few teachers who explains why and how his students can improve in the future. Dr. Billingsley is not only a great teacher, but also an excellent mentor. He is always willing and prompt to help out with anything outside of the classroom, including course work as well as advice in general. Classical and Modern Languages
    College of Arts and Sciences
Fall 2014 was my first semester trying to learn French. I was extremely apprehensive about learning the new language because of the spelling and little nuances French required in oral and written dialect. The very first class with Mdm. Brown, I was no longer worried at all. She creates an extremely welcoming environment and puts your nerves at ease. We were all required to stand in place and perform a march while reciting the alphabet. This was the first of many odd tasks we performed in the class, but I can guarantee no one was uncomfortable making a mistake again in front of the class or asking a question. Mdm. Brown was thorough in what she taught and made sure the entire class knew the principles we covered in order to move on to the next lesson in speech. Aside from her outstanding teaching, her personality also shined both in and outside of class. Whether you were asking questions during her office hours or you were sitting (or marching) in class, she was always smiling. Sometimes it may be at the mix up in language you just had or maybe it was because she was just as excited to teach French as I was to learn it. Either way, she was constantly bringing a positive energy wherever she went which helped create an encouraging and nurturing environment for learning. Mdm. Brown was by far my favorite instructor and gave the encouragement I needed to continue with French and is the main reason I still continue with learning French.

Professor Brown is SO sweet, understanding, helpful, and caring. As a freshman taking French for the first time, she was open and understanding to my needs. She is young and understands us students but also forces us to step out on a limb and do our best to ensure that we are fluent in French like we are supposed to be throughout the course. She never cancelled class, offered tutoring sessions, informed us on the various things within campus that would allow us to better our knowledge of French other than her classroom. She was always open on email and throughout her office hours. She never hesitated to tell us how things were going to be, but still challenged us throughout the various activities in class, quizzes, tests, and online work. I have enjoyed this course extensively and will recommend her to any student willing to take a French class. Most importantly, when I asked a question, I wasn't judged nor looked at like I was "stupid." She encouraged us to ask questions and was ALWAYS willing to happily answer them even if she was repeating herself. No higher authority in this school will understand the importance of a WILLING and HELPFUL professor. This is a necessity to learning and enjoying what we learn. Sadly, Professor Brown is one, among a few of the professors on this campus, who is so willing to help and ensure that we know what we are learning. Forever thankful for her and her guidance this semester!

He cares about and genuinely knows all of his students individually. He has made a significant impact on how I view the society I live in and also the path that I hope to lead with my life. Luke, by far, is the most deserving of this award.

Professor Burge is great. She goes above and beyond with her availability to students and in her real-world experience she brings to the classroom.

Professor Burge goes above and beyond to help her students. The small classroom helps show how much she cares about each of her students and wants them all to achieve the most they can. The material isn't very exciting, but she does an amazing job to help her students understand everything they need. She is always offering for students to come visit her about school or life in general. She's extremely easy to get in contact with if you need her. She was by far the most influential professor.

Professor Burge is an amazing professor and an even better person. She is always available no matter what, even allowing us to text her at any time of the day. Her personal connection to each student is apparent, and she cares about the students learning the material and not about the grades.

Excellent teacher! Uses real situations and events to convey principles.

Christy shows so much commitment to her students and doing everything she can to help them prepare for both the CPA exam and the real world after school. She has been a great mentor and is never afraid to tell it like it is. Unlike some other instructors, she always seems approachable and makes students comfortable reaching out to her. Her advice always is driven by what is in the best interest of her students and helping them achieve their goals, and for that, I will always be appreciative.

    Physics and Astronomy
    College of Arts and Sciences
Dr. Chastain was my PHYS 298 prof, and he will be my PHYS 299 prof in the spring of 2015. He does a fantastic job of explaining key concepts, simplifying tough concepts, and focusing on important concepts. The class set up could not be worse with a 75-minute lecture, followed by a 50-minute recitation in the evening; however, he makes all the topics interesting, and usually enjoyable, to learn. He is very approachable, and he is very helpful in his office hours. The class is completely fair because I feel you only lose points when you made a mistake from a lack of effort put into his class. I would recommend him to any student taking an introductory physics class. He is a fantastic professor, the only professor my past school year that I would willingly take again. There is a reason I took PHYS 299 because how great he was for PHYS 298. This semester he did an even better job than last because he experimented! He tried to move lecture material into pre-lecture material, which allows time for group work and more examples. He taught us out of class and facilitated the greatest learning environment I have ever been a part of. He is beyond extremely helpful in office hours and outside of class and just as helpful in class! He deserves to be awarded because he is so competent as a professor, teacher, educator, and friend. It would be more than an incredible shame if he is not offered a renewal on his adjunct professorship contract.

Professor Chastain has taught physics in a totally new way, where it is more hands-on and interactive, rather than a lecture style. It has really helped me understand the material. He is personable, always available, and sadly, only signed on to teach at the university for professors who are on sabbaticals (which to me, is very unfortunate for the university, because he is a fantastic teacher). He really made physics come alive for me (something I never thought I would say).

First let me express my sincerest feelings of gratitude toward Dr. Chastain and all the amazing efforts he's made with not only me, but all of the students that attended his classes. He is an amazing educator. If his knack for custom tailoring an explanation based on the student he's teaching doesn't convince you, his ability to put a student at ease while instilling confidence in a subject matter that, let's face it, almost never aligns with the intuitive thinking patterns life has taught us. Here's the facts: Dr. Chastain consistently extended his office hours on the fly simply because he wasn't done teaching on the topic being discussed. His door was always open. I respect a man that has such a grasp on his pride that he can set it aside and listen to complaints from students. Not only did he listen, but he made appropriate changes based on feedback from his class. He creates an atmosphere in his classroom where 80+ students feel comfortable asking any question. He's very fair and understanding when life gets in the way during the semester. He's just an overall great guy. Dr. Chastain is an asset to the U of L Physics Department. I feel very fortunate that I was able to take 298 and 299 from him. What a wonderful educator.

Dr. Chastain is one of the best professors I've encountered at UofL. He relates to his students and makes a subject that can sometimes be very difficult easy to understand. He also makes every class fun and gets his students involved very well.

Dr. Chastain rocks! He made physics sweet. I learned a lot from him.

Dr. Chastain makes me want to learn physics. I went into Physics 222 afraid and unsure of how I was going to do because physics is such a hard subject for me. After two weeks in Dr. Chastain's class, I had the confidence and knowledge to succeed. The way he teaches this class gives students the best opportunity to learn--from pre-lecture videos to homework, and on the exams, he gives you all the tools you need to do well in this otherwise difficult course. I realize that the way he teaches may be unconventional, but it works. He truly cares about his students, and I feel that he is a great student advocate and instructor.

I absolutely loved the teaching I have received this semester in Dr. Chastain's class. He takes a physics course, which I hate, and teaches it in such a way that makes it fun. I have learned more in 222 than I ever did in 221. The teaching style, group work, and funny jokes to lighten up the lectures, have made all the difference. He has been a big help during class and office hours to those who had trouble with a concept.

By far the best instructor I have had.

Questions were always welcomed during clinical, and he took the time to explain the answer to the best of his ability. If there were questions he was unsure of, he always referred you to someone who could answer it. No question was left unanswered which expands his students' knowledge. Dr. Clark inspired me to be the best nurse that I can be and deserves to be recognized for his efforts.

Dr. Clark was my clinical instructor this past semester and has inspired me to be the best nurse that I can be. He instills confidence in each of his students and diligently spends time to make sure we understand material. She actually took the time to get to know me on a personal level.

Our classroom always had a very casual and welcoming nature, starting with our professor telling us on the first day to address her as "Regina." Most students go into Oral Communications dreading or being outright terrified of it. Regina allowed us (sometimes more forcefully than others) to get to know everyone in the class through daily, extensive group work. While at the time, most of the class may have been adverse to it, the group work allowed all of us to become substantially more comfortable speaking in front of the group; something Regina managed to do without any of us noticing. She was also always very helpful outside of class, and very prompt to respond to emails should you have a question.

She is a great teacher who really makes the classroom interactive. She motivates her students to perform well during their speeches and helps them to become better orators.

I came into this class never having any instructional experience in public speaking and with intentions of just checking off the tedious Comm 111 gen ed on my transcript. I even dreaded taking this class to some extent just for the fact that it was public speaking. Ms. Regina, from day one, made this class one of the best learning experiences I have had in college or even in my high school classes. Being a small class of only 25 or so students, it made for a very interactive and personal experience compared to my usual lecture of 300+ students. She was very approachable and available any time any one of her students needed something, whether it was for her class or something personally going on. It was very nice to actually be acknowledged as a student rather than just a number for once. I loved getting to know her personally, and she made her class feel as if she was no better than any of us or above us on any level. In doing so, it made giving speeches a lot easier and created a very good learning environment. I looked forward to going to her class every day since this was a place I felt not only comfortable but also capable of expressing my own ideas and values without any repercussions. I would strongly recommend this professor and speak very highly of her as an individual and also an educator.

To begin, Regina is well experienced in her craft. She effectively gives us the tools we need in order to successfully speak publicly and privately. I've seen the transformation of students who looked as though they might experience an anxiety attack into young adults who can thoroughly and competently express their ideas with their peers. In addition to being a phenomenal educator, Regina succeeds in being an outstanding individual. Her humorous personality makes every classroom session a joy to attend. Her extracurricular activities outside of the University are also quite commendable. She is very active in her church and works with like-minded individuals to help women find a way out of the adult entertainment industry. For the reasons stated above, I would like to nominate Ms. Regina Cook Pfeiffer for my favorite educator.

And it's not just me she treats this way, it's our whole class. My final presentation, I completely bombed it, and she calmed me down and said I could have done worse and this wasn't that bad. She is the sweetest woman I have met on this campus, and I think she goes unrecognized. If I could take her for all my classes at UofL, I would. I took her world civilizations class as a general education requirement expecting to be bored as history was not one of my preferred subjects; however, I found myself looking forward to going to her class each day. She opened my eyes to so much more than my small world and helped me to develop an appreciation for history. She encouraged us to find out what was going on in the world around us and helped us make connections to the past and why an event may have occurred. Dr. Fairhead is inspiring and deserves nothing less than receiving this award.

He took a boring subject and made it fun and interactive with fake businesses that students created. He added ridiculous scenarios that made the businesses think outside the box to respond to the situations, and made this class one to remember. Bravo Harley!

He made class very entertaining which is hard in English.

    College of Arts and Sciences
Upon entering college, the fear of the unknown almost overwhelmed me. How big the campus is, the number of students, lecture hall sizes, and the large student body made the experience intimidating. However, taking The Francophone World class with Dr. Bonnibeth Fonseca-Greber has made me overcome that fear. She made us feel welcome, helped with inquiries as simple as directions, and assigned a book, What Successful College Students Do , for us although it was not a class requirement. She has a doctorate and this was not required of her, which implies she really cares about us as students. Her teaching style engaged us to talk about diversity in the Francophone world which opened up to talking about diversity at UofL and in the USA. Dr. Fonseca-Greber inspired me to engage with diversity and differences. Our class discussions about what makes a language more business-important was challenging to the way I viewed things; speaking different dialects might imply lower education/socioeconomic status contradictory to the solid idea I had about languages. She gave us the opportunity to engage: suggest causes of particular issues, debate possibilities of change, discuss possible solutions. This encouragement to participate made me more willing to share my thoughts and less scared of speaking my mind outside classrooms. It made me able to negotiate different views, as well as taught me how to deal with opposing opinions in another way than just dismissing them. Dr. Fonseca-Greber has also inspired me to open up to new perspectives. In class, non-immigrants were struck with the realization of how lucky they are. My American colleagues seemed to take for granted growing up in places where people in the community spoke the same language, shared the same culture, and understood the same humor. Those points that may seem trivial can determine someone's life, well-being, and happiness. Not being able to communicate in a foreign country is hard, so how about having to permanently reside in one for a safer life? Dr. Fonseca-Greber has connected us to each other and to the world by helping us imagine being in someone else's shoes. In addition to inspiring me to think outside the box, Dr. Fonseca-Greber strengthened the notion of honor and integrity in me. She taught me that my opinion matters; every human being deserves to be heard. She taught me life-changing concepts in the simplest ways: not all options are black and white, but numerous shades of grey in between. She exemplified being honorable and noble by giving students a fair chance, listening to our opinions equally, and not letting prejudices get in the way. Additionally, Dr. Fonseca-Greber showed me how the professor-student communication should be by believing in us, caring for every students' academics as well as life struggles, and trying to solve our issues individually. All of these made me strive to be as honorable. I deeply appreciate Dr. Fonseca-Greber's efforts to help students think beyond themselves. I finally met a person who truly understands the struggle of my family of not completely blending in with the American society. Although I have been learning English in Egypt since I was in first grade, I still strive to understand some of the cultural differences I encounter in America. Even though I can speak fluent English, I sometimes fail to understand the American humor my friends share. Although a non-immigrant American, Dr. Fonseca-Greber relates to and expresses the difficulties non-native speakers face. Meeting a knowledgeable professor like Dr. Fonseca-Greber makes me realize that great people like her do exist.

Professor Freeman is unlike any professor I have had in my three years at UofL. She is unbiased in her grading, and in her lectures in class, she presents well-researched materials and takes a genuine interest in the opinions of her students in regards to her practice. I have never had a professor who was so willing to alter her methods on the fly based on reviews from students mid-semester. She attempts to see every student individually whenever possible and provides a vast source of information for students outside of the required books to help aid their understanding of the material. She is an incredible professor, and I believe that despite her youth, she has earned this recognition.

If not for Professor Freeman and her passion for teaching and philosophy, I would never have thought to minor in philosophy. I have never been more challenged in a class than I have from her.

Dr. Freeman is an amazing professor, and in this class, not only did I learn a lot but the ethical problems that we learned about opened my eyes. This is the best kind of class a student can take, and Dr. Freeman is an amazing professor.

The word that comes to mind when I think of Leslie is "dedicated," but even that doesn't quite seem to cut it. She truly goes above and beyond for her students in the Communication Art & Design BFA Program, both educationally and personally. She is a real teacher, always showing us tips, giving us helpful critique, encouraging us, and pushing us to do good work. There are so many examples of this. She will frequently and happily stay after class to answer our questions or give us a tutorial about Adobe InDesign. She chooses to get personally invested in each of our projects. I did a book project this semester, and I needed a page from an old hymnal with a particular hymn on it to scan and use in my book. Leslie not only listened to my ideas, but she went home and looked through the hymnals she had to see if she had the page I needed. She remembers what artists we respect and admire. (For instance, she recently sent me a link about Steven Heller, one of my career heroes.) She takes an interest in each of us personally, the things we love, and the things we hope to do in the future. She recently suggested I try to take a class in the Critical & Curatorial Studies department because I'm interested in writing about design. She's a creative and brilliant person. She's always coming up with ideas for everything. And because she is such a dedicated professor, she chooses to use those things ”the ways she's wired” to help her students and make us better designers. She could be doing any number of things in the design world and be very successful. It's humbling to me that she chooses to teach and that I get to be one of her students. I came to UofL quite unexpectedly. It's turned out to be the perfect fit for me, and that's largely because of Leslie's skill in teaching and dedication to her students. I count it an honor to learn from her.

Leslie Friesen is the best professor I have ever had at the University of Louisville. She is extremely knowledgeable in her field, both as an instructor and as an Art Director. She is always ready to answer questions and help students in an out of the classroom. She doesn't just hand out assignments and grade them, she makes her classes to where you gain experience and skill applicable to real-world professional environments. Evidence of this is her taking design students to the Welch Printing plant in order to see and understand scenarios and tech we will undoubtedly encounter when we enter the workforce. Additionally, Leslie instituted Portfolio Day in which, in the last semester of a Art Communication and Design student's college career, they display their portfolios for companies and individuals to look at and potentially hire the respective student. She also uses her contacts in the design world to locate and notify students of available internships they can apply to. Leslie isn't just concerned with checking boxes and slapping on grades, she's concerned with preparing fully capable, knowledgeable, and professional designers to have successful careers in the real world! Leslie is CA&D;'s "design mom." She's always there to help. At the same time, however, she challenges you to work hard, to expand your knowledge, to try new things, to do more independent work outside of class, and to go the extra mile. Leslie is an incredible professor, and she does the University of Louisville credit!

When you first get the book for his class, you look at it and think, "this is about to be so boring, and I don't know if I want to be in a class that is required to read all of this," but Dr. Jones takes learning in his class to a different level. The way he teaches the information makes you want to pick up the book and read farther than what he tells you in class, and it makes you want to come to class because the information is so interesting. Also Dr. Jones doesn't hesitate to tell us to visit during his office hours anytime. He is a professor who is open and willing to help students in any way.

Lt Col Kennedy has been one of the most influential people in my education thus far. I am an ROTC cadet, as well as a mathematics major, though I did take his IE 590 class for Spreadsheet Modeling. He helps out all of his students and has an open door policy, so whatever questions we as students have, he answers them and is always there to not only talk but also help with real-life problems. Whenever a student comes in, they come first and he drops all of his work; again, the STUDENT comes first, even outside of office hours. He understands that being in college is hard. Switching into independence and all of the struggling that goes along with it, he has helped me apply for scholarships and also given me aid through the UofL AFROTC tuition remission fund, which has kept me in school altogether. He also aids in my other classes and is concerned about not only my grades but all of his students, for both ROTC and his IE classes. In class he makes jokes, teaches in a way that helps all types of learners, and has each person do a presentation to work on their real-life briefing skills. Lt Col Kennedy understands that education goes far above the classroom. He makes sure that whatever we learn and take out of his lectures can aid in building better people in the real world and in our respective work places. I feel a lot of teachers miss that what we learn has to be not only "learned" but applied. It isn't about memorizing useless facts but applying them to be better workers and people. He is under appreciated and deserves recognition for his hard work and dedication to those two programs and to this University as a whole.

This simple activity completely changes the mood and brings a sense of gratitude into the room. Paula is always accessible and tells students to remember her as a resource for job references. She is a real treasure at the University of Louisville.

It was my first semester back to college after 20+ years. I was so fortunate that her style was aligned with my learning. She was well prepared in advance, and her assignments were always available ahead of her commitments. My course was online, and she also made sure that all of her lectures were online videos with her presenting verbal as well as written documentation. She is extremely prompt in all of her responses and professional. For this I am nominating her for this recognition.

I would like to nominate both Sherry Duffy and Elizabeth Krauss from the ELFH program. My husband and I lost our child on 10/25/14. Sherry and Elizabeth worked with me, not only giving me time to grieve and physically heal, but also working very hands on, once I was able to return. They were available to me day and night. They walked me through what was left of the course to ensure I understood, since I was still in a haze. These women supported me during the most difficult time in my life, and I will never forget it. They are both beautiful, incredible women and have certainly earned the badge of my favorite educators for the rest of my life.

Amazing professor. Very dedicated to the students and cares that we understand the topics. Great person and she deserves this award every year hands down!

Of all the teachers we have had this semester, she is the only one that I feel is worthy of the title "Teacher." Her notes are together, her presentations are clear, and her expectations articulated well. She teaches us and then actually tests us on what she taught us. A novel concept, lost on every other so-called teacher I have had here so far. All other teachers seems to throw us every fragment of information available on a particular subject and then randomly test the minutia of intricate details that weren't lectured on or were briefly mentioned. Dr. Miller tests hard, but it is on material she taught. She grades tough, but again, it is fair because she taught us well. She grades fast, grades from tests are usually back the same day. She is approachable and doesn't come across as a pompous academic when you have a question. She is a great asset to the program, and all should be done to keep her as a professor at the ULSD.

She's flexible and willing to compromise with students, like moving an exam back a class if it will benefit everyone. She's also always accessible outside of class to help with anything you need. Dr. Osborne is very knowledgeable and passionate about the work he does, which makes class engaging. He graciously offered to teach an extra statistics course in the spring and wrote the textbook for his students throughout the semester. He taught in such a way that I, someone who has long struggled with stats, was able to clearly understand. The time and energy he put into teaching this extra course did not go unnoticed and was very much appreciated. Dr. Osborne is an excellent professor, and I would recommend him to any student.

Dr. Osborne has a knack for seeing the potential in his students and motivating students to push themselves. He extends collaboration opportunities to students that many faculty would not have the patience to pursue. He is also incredibly supportive. I have seen many students thrive under Dr. Osborne's guidance (including myself).

Dr. Osborne was an excellent teacher. First, he agreed to teach the course after several students requested it. Additionally, he wrote the text for our course, and it was a readable, engaging text. He went above and beyond to work on the book so that we would have it as a resource. Finally, he structured his course so the focus was on the students' mastery of the material. I think he deserves acknowledgement for his commitment to students.

Dr. Osborne taught ECPY 702 solely because students asked for the course to be taught, and Dr. Osborne recognized the need for the course. He was an excellent teacher, and I can with surety state that he taught me a great amount of useful tools for my everyday life as a professional. Dr. Osborne did a wonderful job teaching difficult concepts and letting us learn statistical skills in an applied manner. Further, he even used his own book for the course, which he wrote simultaneously to teaching ECPY 702. The book was well written and was easy to understand. Overall, I am glad that I was able to take Dr. Osborne's ECPY 702 course.

On top of being the ECPY department chair, Dr. Osborne taught Applied Regression this semester. Dr. Osborne agreed to teach the course upon student request, even though it was not part of his teaching load. Currently, Dr. Osborne is writing a book on best practices in regression. Each week, Dr. Osborne would provide us with a draft of his book chapter, which he was writing as he taught the course. However, these chapters were incredibly well-organized and coherent. I never would have guessed that they were drafts! Dr. Osborne was even kind enough to provide each student with a hard copy of the book he wrote on factor analysis. Due to missed time with the snow days, Dr. Osborne offered to teach extra courses in the summer so that we could cover factor analysis in more depth. In class, Dr. Osborne conveys passion and enthusiasm for statistics. Many students dread and fear statistics, but Dr. Osborne takes a no-nonsense approach to teaching. He provided us with the tools and skills to conduct analyses, interpret the results, and make meaningful graphs. Dr. Osborne facilitated my growth in statistics, as he taught us how to do useful but rarely reported analyses, like curvilinear modeling. Dr. Osborne was humble in his delivery, emphasizing that no person knows everything about statistics and that we were all learning together. This was an extremely useful course, as Dr. Osborne focused on mastery of important skills used in social science research. I looked forward to and enjoyed this class every week! The University of Louisville is very fortunate to have a talented, caring, and hard-working professor like Dr. Osborne. Thank you for teaching the course!

In health assessment lab, Ms. Heather Owens always demonstrated proper technique and answered questions promptly regarding procedures. I would highly recommend her to anyone willing to learn and ready to work hard, because she will make you work for it, but she will also help you along the way.

Heather Owens honestly cares about her students. I have had her for several classes in the upper division portion of the BSN program, and she is honestly fantastic. By far the best professor I have had here at UofL! He truly cares about the performance of his students. I wish all professors at UofL were like Dr. Park!

Instructor wants every student to succeed as long as they show some effort in his course. Sam Park is a very reasonable professor.

Dr. Park genuinely puts forth his best effort in presenting material in class. He works with students and understands that sometimes engineering is tough. Dr. Park gives many opportunities for students to succeed and should be recognized for that.

Dr. Park is an exemplary professor. I am a transfer student who began at UofL J.B. Speed School over the summer. I had a rocky beginning with my Thermodynamics I course. The summer semester course in which I was enrolled rotated through three separate instructors over the course of the summer. I left the summer course feeling as though I had not fully grasped the fundamental concepts required to continue on to Thermodynamics II this Fall. Dr. Park turned that around, and I left the course with a better understanding of not only Thermodynamics I, but a greater appreciation for thermodynamics and its importance after his Thermodynamics II course. Dr. Park went above and beyond his duties to help not only myself, but several of my other classmates as well. He allowed us to meet with him regularly during office hours, as well as offered us supplementary materials from his own Thermo I course to help reinforce our overall understanding of the material, in order to succeed in his Thermodynamics II class. For this, I would take great pleasure in nominating Dr. Sam Park as an integral part of my success as a student this Fall 2014 semester.

He does not just plow through the material, but challenges students to think about the "how" and "why" of the methodologies being taught. I appreciated also that he made a point of learning every student's name; it makes it a more personal environment, and I believe that everyone is encouraged to try harder. As well, Dr. Rai's ability to bring some levity to a subject like statistics, a subject dreaded by some though useful to all, is also great for keeping people more engaged. Finally, Dr. Rai provides extra challenges to those students wishing to focus in more depth, and I think that also adds much value and richness to his teaching style.

Dr. Rai is the best teacher. He cares about each student, cares about the class (PHST680), encouraged everyone to discuss in the class, introduced his research experience related to the class, marked homework and also explained homework in the class, encouraged students to dig the theoretical background of the equation.

Professor Rose was a great professor to have for this Gen Ed class. It made the work fun with creative activities, and our final was unlike my other classes. It was a music video which was fun to make. He was always there to explain things when we didn't understand them, and if you needed help for an assignment, he was more than pleased to help. He made our atmosphere comfortable to where we felt fine to share our poems and personal things. He encouraged class participation, which only helps make our class get to know each other and enjoy the semester together.

He is compassionate and really listens to his students!!

This fall was the start of my first semester. Naturally, I was apprehensive at first, as I didn't know what to expect about the course or the beginning of my program. Dr. Rose alleviated all of my concerns as he was always readily available; not only in class, but via email/phone, as well as for any questions/concerns that I had concerning the coursework or my program. He goes "above and beyond" to ensure his students grasp a particular concept--his goal is to help you succeed if you desire to succeed. After collaborating with other students in my courses this semester, they too agreed that he was exemplary in the courses he taught, and they felt that he truly wanted to see them advance in their learning process.

I would like to nominate Dr. Rose for several reasons. First, as the professor for my first graduate-level course, he went above and beyond to ensure that we not only knew the material but could also apply it in a practical setting. Second, his approachability is second to none, and that is important in a learning environment. Third, out of the 30 classes I have taken online, he was by far the most influential and personable professor. Dr. Rose has made an impact on my educational journey unlike any professor I have had before. The only negative thing I can say about Dr. Rose is that he cannot teach all of my classes in the HROD online graduate degree.

Dr. Rose deserves to be recognized for making a difference in the classroom. This was my first semester of graduate school in the master's program for Human Resources and Organization Development. It was also a first for me to be enrolled in an online class. Dr. Rose was able to provide clarity, direction, and structure for the foundational class, Evidence-Based Research in Human Resources and Organization Development. He always came prepared, did a great job interacting with students, and was quick to provide resources that would better help us understand and practice what we were learning. He made an online classroom a safe place to ask questions, get the wrong answers, and grow in our understanding. He encouraged us that if we gave our best efforts, he would match that enthusiasm and help us succeed. I am glad that my first experience in this program has been such a positive one, and it was made possible by a great educator like Dr. Rose. Thank you!

Dr. Rose was able to ease my apprehension with taking online classes and guide me to the successful completion of my first semester of school in many years. Thanks to Dr. Rose, I am confident I will be able to complete the master's program successfully. Fantastic professor. Easy to follow and always willing to help.

Dr. Rose is down-to-earth and truly wishes to inspire the students in his class to become better leaders. He takes the course very seriously and attempts to get all students involved. He also realizes that we are busy people and respects our time and effort.

She just made psychology come alive. Every time class was about to finish, I would look at my watch just shocked at how the time flew by. The class was just so fascinating. In addition to that, her exams were easy. They definitely needed critical thinking but they were all logical. If you reasoned through the question enough, you would come up with the answer. Dr. Sheridan asks graduate students to learn the ways of our field by engaging in the activities we'll do as members of the academy, with special attention to the fact that these activities will change over time. In our research methods course, we did not just learn about disciplinary methods in practice in writing studies right now; we employed them while interrogating them. Just as importantly, Dr. Sheridan encouraged us to do so in the relatively low-stakes environment of coursework before our dissertation research begins in earnest. Through informal class responses, reflective blog posts, and various presentations, we shared our ideas in communal spaces, practicing collaborative knowledge-making as a way of deep learning and critical thinking. There might not be room in the schedule to offer research methods in writing studies every year, and I know there are many other courses Dr. Sheridan would like to offer. But the purpose of this class and her teaching style are such an astonishingly good match, I wish everyone in our graduate program could have this experience.

Ms. Skinner was very informative and helpful. You could tell that she genuinely cared about the performance of ALL students, not just favorites. If anyone deserves this award, this selfless professor does!

Professor Skinner is a phenomenal professor. She is highly educated and very professional in her department. She is extremely helpful, and she is willing to go above and beyond as a professor. You leave her class with a wealth of knowledge that will be used to further your nursing career. She is the best professor I have had so far in my education.

Ms. Mary Skinner was actually one of my favorite professors through my entire time in school thus far. She brings enthusiasm to the classroom. Ms. Skinner teaches pathophysiology incredibly well. She taught very clearly, and I was never confused. I feel like I have not only completed this course well, but I have also learned a great deal of information. Having a teacher who makes it so important for you to understand the material is refreshing. I never felt overwhelmed in her class, but I also never felt as though I was above any information taught. She was an outstanding teacher. I will walk away a more intelligent student because of Ms. Skinner.

Ms. Skinner was an amazing teacher and always so enthusiastic! I've never had a teacher in my four years at UofL make a class so interesting and exciting!

Ms. Skinner has proven to be not just my favorite instructor this year but my favorite instructor ever. Incredibly knowledgeable. He makes relatively difficult subject matter easy to understand and genuinely cared about our success. I went out of my way to have him as a professor twice.

Going past what is required of him, and surpassing the effort made by most, if not all of my other instructors, he has represented the quality of being a passionate teacher. He makes an incredible effort to have students participate and ask questions, uses numerous creative ways of looking at problems to present difficult concepts in a way better perceived by the class, and will take the time outside of the classroom to consult with any student needing guidance or assistance. A popular understanding of what a college professor can be provides two descriptions. The first is that the professor only cares about getting the class done with, doing their own research, and not making much effort to truly help the students. The second is that the professor exemplifies everything it means to be a passionate educator. Dr. Stilp does away with a student's worry of having an indifferent professor and instead fully embodies anything and everything that can be assumed of the second understanding. Thank you, Dr. Stilp. You've only further developed my passion for the field and my appreciation of quality instructors.

Excellent professor who actually cares about his students learning the material. He goes out of his way to help his students.

Professor Stilp makes sure that his students truly understand the material in every single lecture. You would never know that she is not a full-time faculty because of how dedicated she is to us and our learning. She is so quick at responding to our questions and comments and is even better at helping us with our questions and even how we can better an assignment. I wish all faculty in the Education Department, especially in the HROD Leadership master's concentration, were like her. She doesn't just live the standards of a professor, she exceeds them and sets the example that others should try and live and teach by.

I feel that because of Devon's enthusiasm and ability to get more out of each student in the class that she is warranted my nomination. Devon helped each individual student want to do much better in the class and with each other. We need more teachers like her.

She was absolutely amazing! She had a way of captivating the students and getting them engaged with the literature and relevance of class discussion. She was understanding of uncontrollable circumstances outside of class and willing/happy to answer any questions we had about assignments, required courses, and even career development and other fields of study. He is by far one of the most impressive, enthusiastic, and incredible teachers I have ever had! My journey to acquire a Certificate in Peace, Justice, and Conflict Transformation has been unbelievable. He challenges each of his students to their full potential and beyond. He may be one of the toughest teachers I have ever had and I appreciate him that much more for it. For example, he uses the discussion boards for classmates to reflect upon their service learning projects. In the in-depth posts each student makes, he takes the time to not only read through them, but give wonderful feedback and suggestions to further that line of thinking. Sometimes he even adds further questions to consider on the topic. This aspect of the capstone course of the PJCT certificate helped me to increase my ability to critically think through my thoughts. I see this skill as applying not just to my studies, but to myself as a human being in our society. He pushed me beyond my expected limitations and helped me to realize I have more potential and opportunities than I had previously thought I did. After taking two of his courses in Peace, Justice, and Conflict Transformation, I feel like I am beginning to realize the true importance of peace studies, both locally and globally. I am beyond happy to have had him as a teacher and want more people to take these courses in peace studies. I always looked forward to attending Stephanie's class. She was always well-prepared, engaging, and used multiple teaching strategies/activities in class which made it more enjoyable. Stephanie is one of the best professors I had all year, and she was only an adjunct! The amount of time she put into the class, grading, and helping students did not go unnoticed and was appreciated. :)

Stephanie taught our techniques in counseling class. We must take this course before we begin our clinical practicum training. Stephanie created a safe and supportive learning environment. She helped to allay fears that many students experience before beginning clinical training. For example, Stephanie facilitated in-class discussions where we explored difficult situations we will encounter in therapy. It was obvious that Stephanie cared about our learning and felt an ethical obligation to help us become effective therapists. Most importantly, she provided every student with individual supervision on the final project. Stephanie watched the therapist-client dyad videos with each student, allowing us to ask questions about our final session. This was the first final in which I had the opportunity to reflect on my performance and receive immediate feedback. Going forward, I now have an increased understanding of the theoretical framework that will guide my approach to therapy. I also really appreciated Stephanie's collaborative approach to supervision. Watching oneself on film can provoke self-conscious thoughts, but working with Stephanie made me feel more comfortable, and I was actually able to focus on the session. In class, Stephanie demonstrated therapeutic techniques with students who acted as clients. I enjoyed watching the therapeutic process unfold live. Stephanie displayed a great deal of humanity with her willingness to tackle difficult questions and her genuine openness. Stephanie helped me realize that being a therapist is an ongoing process that requires both courage and vulnerability. Stephanie is a caring, open-minded, and insightful instructor. She will make an excellent full-time professor in the future!

Best writing class I have ever had in my entire school career (and I'm an international student from Germany). I learned more during this semester than in all my other classes combined!

Great instructor. Wonderful TAs. Has fairly difficult content to cover but covers it well and in a short period for some students' convenience. Willing to answer any and all questions and will give good opportunities for improving grade.

He is amazing at what he does. He is extremely nice, and he feels not only like a teacher but as a friend.

    Great instructor!

Dr. Yampolskiy's Artificial Intelligence class was the first class I have taken at the University of Louisville. Dr. Yampolskiy made the course fun and challenging. I work full time at an IT Consulting Company, and I am taking the course online. There are many challenges when working full time and going to school full time. When I needed help or had a question, I was always able to contact Dr. Yampolskiy and get a response very quickly from him. His projects where challenging but achievable and leave you with a great understanding of Artificial Intelligence. Great Professor!

    Wonderful professor!!

    Rigorous, rewarding course.

    Good.

Dr. Yampolskiy only enhanced my want to learn throughout his course.

He teaches AI (CECS-545) which I believe is the most rewarding class at UofL. It will be the class I remember ten years from now.

Great professor. The intro to programming was provided well by him and his assistants.

    He's cool.

Dr. Yampolskiy is a very understanding professor who truly understands how teaching should be done in modern times. Computer science should be taught through assignments that require students to explore concepts, apply them, and succinctly explain them.

Professor Yampolskiy is a great professor who genuinely wants his students to do well. He is always willing to answer any questions students may have. Having him as a professor has been a privilege.

Dr. Yampolskiy's Artificial Intelligence course is the hardest course that I have ever attempted. However, his course pushed me to be better and has given me a crash course on creating algorithms, search methods, and evaluating performance of programs. The knowledge I gained from this course has given me insight, which has helped me solve business problems and look like an absolute wizard to my peers at work. Thanks for challenging me!

Dr. Yampolskiy was a very effective and fun teacher and always made it his goal to answer questions and cover the material effectively.

He's very invested in the success of his students and does his best to engage the class. He teaches a very interesting class (Artificial Intelligence) and reinforces lecture topics with relevant projects. Because of his course, I now have a portfolio of work that I can show to future employers. Overall, a great professor!

Great professor. Would definitely take his class again!

    THE best.

Very passionate about his field and genuinely interested in helping students work through their problems and understand what caused them.

An all-around great guy! Very easy to get along with, and his lectures don't really put you to sleep --which is a huuuuge plus!

He always kept students engaged with content-relevant jokes.

    (1) Funny and engaging in class (2) Accessible outside of class, even outside of office hours b/c I couldn't make it to those (3) Provided examples and gave good explanations of all concepts

Dr. Yankeelov is the most genuine, caring instructor I have ever had. Her courses were extremely difficult, but her support and encouragement made me successful! She pushed us to apply critical thinking skills while analyzing EBP! She is definitely deserving of an award!

Great teacher and human being. Definitely deserves recognition.

Madame Yoder works very hard as a professor. I've been working with her a lot recently because I'll be studying abroad in France next year, and she has made this exchange program happen for me. She put so much work into this just to help me get a great educational opportunity and that doesn't even count all the work she puts in for the French Department in general or her classes. She's always busy making sure everyone is learning and reaching their goals in the French Department, and U of L's French Program would not be the same without her incredible work and devotion. She is the hardest working professor I've ever had, and she has made such a positive influence on my college education, along with those of many others. She deserves to be recognized for her hard work and care.

Taking Zehnder this semester was probably one of my best decisions in college. No other class has given me a larger boost in practical knowledge of how the macro economy is ran today in the modern world vs how it has been handled historically. His jokes are often corny, he is loud, but he is above all hilarious and keeps you paying attention the entirety of the 2.5 hour lectures! His lectures make sense, and as a skeptic, I would always attempt to verify his claims and they always checked out. He talks the whole darn time, and it's awesome because he has so much to teach students with his experiences. Hope this professor sticks around longer to take any other classes he teaches.

Dr. Zierold's class was my absolutely favorite of the Epidemiology concentration. It was practical, useful, and she paid special attention to keeping it relevant to current events. She really cares about her students and goes out of her way to help try and make sure we will be set up to be successful after graduation. I really appreciate how hard she works for us and for the community at large here in Louisville.
