Snapshot
The ASLIS Living and Learning Community (LLC) is a unique residential program designed to support students who are studying American Sign Language and Deaf culture. This community provides an immersive environment where students can strengthen their language skills, build cultural awareness, and develop meaningful connections with peers who share similar goals. Residents of the ASLIS LLC live together in a dedicated space that fosters opportunities for practice, collaboration, and engagement in the language and culture of the U.S. Deaf community. Through structured activities, students enhance their language proficiency while deepening their understanding of the values, history, and traditions of the Deaf community. The community emphasizes peer-to-peer learning and inclusive communication practices, encouraging students to use ASL in their daily interactions. Faculty mentors and community partners provide additional support by offering tutoring, cultural enrichment opportunities, and networking connections. By living in the ASLIS LLC, students not only gain a stronger academic foundation in language learning but also cultivate friendships, cultural competency, and professional skills that will prepare them for the rest of their academic career.
