Room Selection & Retention Timelines
Find the right timeline for you
Our housing application and room selection processes follow specific timelines that vary depending on your student status. Use the buttons below to view the full set of dates, deadlines, and step-by-step instructions for your classification.
Important: There will be waiting periods between phases. Don’t worry if you don’t hear from us right away. Just keep an eye on the published dates and check your UofL email for updates.

First-Year Freshmen and First-Year Transfer Students
- For students entering UofL and classified as First Year Freshmen, including first-year transfer students.
- First-year status is defined according to enrollment year rather than credit-hour status. This means that students who are enrolled in the university for their first year of study will be considered as “first-years,” regardless of their potential credit-hour status as anything otherwise (e.g. as sophomores or juniors by credit hours).
- Includes application deadlines, priority room selection, and swap/change periods.
- Extra guidance for Living-Learning and Themed Community (LLC/TC) applicants.

- For students who are sophomores or above, or incoming upper-level transfer students.
- Classification is defined according to enrollment year rather than credit-hour status. This means that students who are enrolled in the university for a second year of study will be considered as “second-year,” regardless of their potential credit-hour status as anything otherwise (e.g. as juniors or seniors by credit hours).
- Covers Retention (keep your current space), Room Selection, and Room swap/change periods.
- Includes key deadlines for LLC/TC participation.
