Housing Accommodations

Housing Accommodation Room Rates – Student Information

University Housing and the Resident Experience (UHRE) and the University of Louisville are committed to ensuring all students with approved housing accommodations through the Disability Resource Center (DRC) are treated fairly when it comes to housing charges. This information outlines the standard process for assessing and applying residential housing charges for students who have received an approved housing accommodation (e.g., a single room, a private bathroom, access to specific facilities).

The room assignment process begins when a student has officially submitted all required documentation and receives formal approval for a housing accommodation from the DRC. The DRC will notify UHRE of the student’s approved accommodation which states the student’s specific, required accommodation. Upon receipt of the notice of approved accommodation, UHRE will assign the student to the lowest cost unit available that meets the student’s approved accommodation.   The student will receive notification of the assignment to their official UofL email.

How Rates Are Determined

Every student with an approved housing accommodation is reviewed individually by UHRE.

The criteria for determining if a student with an approved accommodation is appropriately charged includes, but is not limited to, a determination of where the student would have lived and what rate the student would have been charged, but for the approved disability accommodation as well as what was available at the time of assignment.

If the rate where the student would have lived is lower than the rate of the student’s assigned space, the student will be charged the lower rate.

Room Assignment – Upon receipt of notice of a student’s approved housing accommodation from the DRC, UHRE will assign the student to the lowest cost unit available that meets the student’s approved accommodation. A student may modify or change the assignment through a room change. However, when a student has a choice between multiple units that meets the student’s needs and the student chooses a more expensive unit, the student will be charged a higher rate.

Students who will be living on campus for the first time may have limited availability of residential spaces. Students who lived on campus previously and did not renew their housing assignment within the designated time-period may be assigned to a different residential space that meets the approved accommodation, if available.

Assignment Date Matters

UHRE will consider the housing options available at the time the student is assigned as well as the approval date of the accommodation.

To make sure charges are consistent and fair, the student’s rate will be based on what facility is available to the student at the time UHRE assigns the student's space based on the approval date of the accommodation.
