Co-Ed Housing

Purpose of Co-Ed Housing

The purpose of co-ed housing within University Housing and Residence Experience (UHRE) is to provide students with greater autonomy and flexibility in choosing their living environment.

Co-ed housing allows students of different sexes to live together in the same room, suite, or apartment only when all parties voluntarily opt in and mutually agree. Participation is entirely optional—no student is ever placed in a co-ed living arrangement without explicit, documented consent.

This option supports student development by offering a housing environment that reflects real-world living experiences, encourages personal responsibility, and allows for diverse roommate configurations among friends, family, siblings, and others who wish to share a living space.

How to Opt in

*All students will automatically be defaulted to “No, I choose NOT to participate in Co-Ed Housing.”

  • Opt In: Simply select “Yes, I choose to participate in Co-Ed Housing on their housing application to opt in.
  • Students may change their selection until the housing deadline. After that date, housing will proceed based on the option you chose.

Students have the option to opt in on the housing application.  If they change their mind, for upper-level students, they must do so by February 22, 2026 at 3 PM or if they are a first-year freshman, they have until May 17, 2026, at 3 PM to change their option.  Consistent with other housing options, after that date, no changes can be made.
