Tevin Monroe (He/Him), First Year Experience and Student Engagement Coordinator
Contact Information (Email Preferred): tevin.monroe@louisville.edu; We can meet virtually on Teams or on campus by appointment!
I joined Speed School in 2024 as the First Year Experience and Student Engagement Coordinator. My professional background includes time spent in public health, human resources, community engagement, and student activities. All of that is summed up to say – I love working to create experiential education opportunities; where you can learn by doing, by bringing your full self to a learning experience, and where learning does not only take place within the four walls of a classroom. I believe that joining the Engineering LLC should give you the experience of being in a supportive community where you are free to try new things, to make mistakes, and to lean on others for support. Myself and the rest of the ELLC community are here to help support you through what can often be a challenging first year as a Speed School student.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Public Health from Wayne State University in 2017. I completed my Master’s degree in 2022 in Community Engagement from Merrimack College. During my Master’s program, my academic focus was on the intersection of mindfulness and service-learning.
5 Things to Know About Me!
- I was raised in Michigan. Since leaving my home state, I have lived in Pittsburgh, PA briefly and have been in Kentucky since 2018.
- I love thriller, horror, and science fiction films.
- Fitness is an important part of my life, but I balance that with mindfulness – being focused on fitness goals while also giving myself grace to rest and enjoy all different kinds of foods!
- I usually prefer podcasts over music.
- While I don’t do much console gaming, my game of choice is Pokémon Go – you’re likely going to find me walking around campus trying to find a raid or catching a Pokémon.
AJ Avery (He/Him/His), Graduate Assistant
Contact Information (Email Preferred): ali.avery@louisville.edu
Hello everyone, my name is AJ Avery. I am the current Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Speed School Office of Student Success. My favorite part about my job is working with amazing mentors to ensure that your first year of engineering is fantastic. A little bit about me is that I was born in Pensacola, Florida, but I was raised in Webster County in a small town called Providence, Kentucky, which is about 2.5 hours away from Louisville. I went to undergrad at the University of Louisville, where I studied Mechanical Engineering and graduated this past May. Now, I am continuing my education at Speed School as a graduate student, working toward my MEng in Mechanical Engineering. During undergrad, I was involved in several organizations including Triangle Fraternity, Speed School Student Council (SSSC), Men of PEACC, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). A fun fact about me is that I have three pet goats at home. When I am not helping out awesome students like you, I am usually practicing the guitar or hanging out with friends.
Advice for LLC/TC Students:
My advice for students is to get involved. I think it’s better to be disappointed that an organization wasn’t the right fit, than to regret never trying at all. UofL has over 400 RSO’s (Registered Student Organizations), and there are so many ways to get involved. It’s a great way to meet new friends, learn new skills, build your resume, and have fun.
