Frequently Asked Questions: General Information
Beginning in Fall 2026, this community will be operated through University Housing and Resident Experience (UHRE). Residents will continue to enjoy the same great location and amenities, with the added benefits of on-campus support, billing through ULink, and access to University resources.
This transition allows UHRE to provide consistent services, safety measures, and support across all student housing communities while strengthening the sense of Cardinal community for residents.
The change will take effect for the 2026–2027 academic year. Current residents will be able to participate in a special retention process during Spring 2026 to remain in their same space. The dates can be viewed right above this FAQ section!
The property will be operated by University Housing and Resident Experience, in partnership with the property’s current management team to ensure a smooth transition.
No. Current residents who complete the retention process will be able to remain in their space continuously into next year.
The Province sent out an email with your next steps on January 7, 2026. If you plan to retain your space, please make sure to apply for Room Retention by January 30th at 3pm.
You will have access to the pedestrian bridge behind the Bettie Johnson parking lot.
Frequently Asked Questions: Application & Retention
Yes. All residents who wish to return for 2026–2027 must complete the on-campus housing application in the Housing Portal (Cards Nest).
Yes. Residents of this building will have a special retention window before general selection opens. Dates can be found by scrolling up on this page or on our Room Selection Timeline page.
You’ll still be able to apply for housing, but your space may no longer be guaranteed. You can participate in priority general selection (February 23–26, 2026) if you apply by February 10, 2026.
Yes. Residents can form roommate groups in the Housing Portal (Cards Nest) before the February 9, 2026 roommate deadline.
Frequently Asked Questions: Financials & Billing
Rates for 2026–2027 will be finalized and shared in early spring on our Costs of Living page. The new rates will follow the same semester-based structure as all other on-campus residence halls. Each student will pay a flat rate per semester, rather than monthly rent, making billing simple and predictable. The rates provided are tentative and based on Board of Trustee approval.
Beginning in Fall 2026, housing charges will appear directly on your ULink student account, alongside tuition, dining, and fees. You’ll no longer make monthly payments to the property — instead, you’ll pay per semester through the University.
The new on-campus rate will cover:
- Utilities (electricity, water, gas)
- Internet
- Trash removal
- Building amenities
- Maintenance and on-call services
- Security
There are no additional surcharges or monthly bills — one flat rate per semester covers it all.
The Province will operate on an 11.5 month license agreement, which means residents will pay for fall and spring semesters and receive the summer semester at no cost.
Yes. Because the building will become a UofL residence hall, financial aid, scholarships, and payment plans can now be applied directly toward housing costs.
The property management team will coordinate with residents directly to handle deposits appropriately. Details will be communicated to current residents before the transition.
Rates will be shared on the University Housing website once they’re approved and finalized for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Frequently Asked Questions: Staffing & Community

Updated January 15, 2026
Unfortunately, we do not allow subleasing within University Housing.
Students who cancel their housing due to participating in a co-op will be charged a cancellation fee initially, but are able to appeal the fee if they meet specific criteria outlined below. To request an appeal, they must follow the steps above and submit documentation that includes their signed offer letter, proof that the co-op is located more than 40 miles from campus, and the dates in which the co-op takes place. Appeals should be submitted as soon as co-op approval is received, ****not at the end of the semester, as appeals can take up to 21-business days to review.
If the appeal is approved:
- Students will not be charged for the semester in which they are away on co-op.
- They must move out by the official move-out date of the current semester. For example, if a co-op begins in January, they are required to vacate by the fall move-out date and cannot remain in housing through the winter break.
- Students will not be eligible for room retention and cannot return to their same space during the summer term.
- Students who wish to return to campus housing in a future semester must submit a new housing application for the term they plan to return.
If the appeal is not approved, the student will remain responsible for the cancellation fee.
