Tutoring Services for Dependents FAQs

Where are tutoring sessions held?

All tutoring sessions will be held either online (e.g., Microsoft Teams or GoBoard) or in Ekstrom Library on the Belknap campus. Tutors will work with you to schedule the specific location that works best for all involved. If attending in person, transportation to and from tutoring sessions is your responsibility.

What is my tutor allowed to do?

Tutors can assist with content questions, clarify misconceptions, and help with reviewing subject matter. Tutors are not permitted to help you with graded assignments. However, they can use other examples to help clarify underlying concepts.

What does it mean that my tutor is certified?

REACH’s tutor training curriculum is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association for all three levels of international certification. When tutors complete training levels and accrue a minimum number of face-to-face hours of tutoring experience, they qualify for certifications that REACH is authorized to confer on the tutor. Only tutors who have earned level 1 certification or higher may privately tutor.

What if REACH tutors do not cover the subject my dependent needs help reviewing?

Through the website above, you can also look for private tutors from other colleges and universities. However, the 10% discount only applies to those tutors who are certified by REACH.

What if I have concerns about the quality of my tutoring session?

REACH and Tutor Matching Service provide a 100% guarantee on the quality of the services provided. This means that you have up to 48 hours after the tutoring session to request a full refund if you feel that the services provided were unsatisfactory. Requests for refunds are processed through TMS.
