Live-On Compliance Fee Appeal
Students in their first year are required to live on campus, and students in their second year are required to live either on campus or in an approved affiliated property, unless they have an official exemption from University Housing & Resident Experience (UHRE).
Why You Might Be Charged
A Live-On Compliance Fee is applied when:
- You move off campus without an approved exemption.
- You cancel your housing mid-year and relocate to a non-affiliated property without an approved exemption.
- You fail to meet the university’s first- or second-year live-on requirement.
How to Appeal
- Go to Cards Nest → Dispute Fees and choose “Live On Compliance Fees” within one calendar year of the fee being applied.
- Provide supporting documentation, for example, your exemption approval, updated address, or official records.
- The anonymous committee (external to UHRE) will review and respond by email within 21 business days.
What Might Be Approved
Appeals may be approved in cases when you can show that something unexpected and out of your control changed your housing situation after you signed your license agreement. Examples could include:
- A withdrawal from the University during the contract term.
- A serious medical condition preventing you from living on campus.
- A documented family or financial hardship that occurred after your assignment.
- A processing error, for example, you had an exemption on file but the system didn’t update before billing.
What Might Not Be Approved
Appeals are generally not approved in situations where the change was known, foreseeable, or within your control. Examples include:
- Moving to a non-affiliated apartment without an approved exemption.
- Forgetting to complete or submit an exemption form.
- Deciding to live off campus for personal preference or convenience.
- No verifiable documentation of the claimed change.
