This presentation will focus on a 10+ years community literacy research relationship with a Black women’s club in Columbus, Ohio. Specifically, I will discuss how the Phenomenal Women Incorporated (PWI) extend Brandt’s notion of literacy sponsorship for themselves and the community of Black women who participate in club-sponsored literacy events and literacy performances.
