What do you love most about your family and/or friends?

My family and friends have always supported me in every endeavor! No matter what I put my mind to, I knew those I cared about would support me. Surrounding yourself with great, supportive people is the first step to success.

What undergraduate and graduate degrees do you have?

I have an Associate of Applied Science in Funeral Service from Mid-America College of Funeral Service and a Bachelor of Science in Mortuary Science from Southern Illinois University.

Why law school and why Brandeis?

I had been interested in going to law school since high school. I always wanted to be two things, a funeral director and a lawyer. When I was in mortuary school, my best friend's wife was a 2L at Brandeis. After talking with her, I realized I wanted to attend law school here.

How have you changed since your 1L year?

I have made many changes since 1L year. I have found positive ways to manage stress and cultivated relationships at school and in the community.

What are you most proud of and why?

The greatest challenge I have overcome is having parents who struggled with drug addiction. My father died of an overdose when I was in high school, and my mother stepped out of my life. It was a very difficult time, but thankfully my grandparents and younger sister were there to support me. They instilled in me that I could accomplish anything I put my mind to. This challenge (and the endless support from so many over the years) empowers me daily to chase my dreams and never give up. .

How do you define Inclusive? How do you define Excellence?

To me, inclusive means a place for all, regardless of any differences. A place that welcomes all regardless of race, gender, religion, and background. A literal "place for all."
Excellence is striving to achieve goals. There is no definitive definition. To quote the great John Wooden, "Success is striving to be the very best you can be." Excellence is defined differently by every individual based on their respective goals. For example, getting straight As in law school is no more excellent that getting a promotion at a job, or vise-versa. Do what matters to you and (to quote Coach Wooden again) "make each day your masterpiece."

What is your professional goal for five years from now?

To be a practicing attorney for a law firm in Louisville.

What is your favorite quote?

"The world breaks everyone, and afterward, many are stronger in the broken places." Ernest Hemingway
