Tuition Remission

The University of Louisville offers a generous tuition remission package for eligible employees and their dependents. The dependent tuition remission program stands out as the most generous of all Kentucky public institutions and is highly competitive among peer institutions.

Tuition Remission for Yourself

Full-time employees are eligible to take up to two courses at UofL each semester tuition free. Full-time is defined as working 80% of full-time equivalency or greater. Part-time employees are eligible to take one course at UofL each semester tuition free. Part-time is defined as working 40-79% of full-time equivalency or greater.

Eligibility:

  • you must be employed on the first day of the semester to be eligible that semester
  • continued eligibility is dependent on a grade C or better from the previous semester
  • fees will still apply

View the Tuition Remission policy for full details on eligibility, tuition coverage and requirements.

What to do:

You must apply to the university and be accepted to the program you wish to attend. Once you register for classes, your tuition remission is automatically applied to your account within a few weeks. You do not need to notify Human Resources that you are enrolled.

Tuition Remission for your Dependent

After one year of eligible service, your dependent children can attend class full time and tuition free for their first undergraduate degree (up to 144 credit hours) through the end of the semester in which they turn 26. Fees will still apply.

  • eligible service is defined as working full-time (80% full-time equivalency or greater) for at least one year
  • the employee must be claiming the child for tax purposes or certify they provide more than 50% of the child's support

View the Tuition Remission policy for full details on eligibility (including eligibility for dependents of permanently disabled, retired or deceased employees), tuition coverage and requirements.

What to do:

The child must apply to the university and be accepted, attend their orientation and register for classes. Once they have registered for classes, the employee must then submit the Tuition Remission for Dependents Form. This form must not be submitted until the child is registered for class, and ONLY needs to be submitted their first semester (or the first semester they are eligible to receive tuition remission). To submit the form, you will need:

  • The student's ID number
  • The student's university email address
