GSS Newsletter - Week of 1/4/21

Dear CEHD Graduate Students, 

A hearty welcome back to all of our students! We hope that you all got some well-needed rest and that you've recharged. As you prepare to return to classes, we have some important reminders to help you start the Spring 2021 semester on the right foot. 

Review the academic calendar for important dates related to add/drop and other academic deadlines. If you will be coming to campus at all, make sure to schedule your COVID-19 test. There are several dates and times available. 

The University Career Center has published their JAN 2021 events. Check them out!  

The Graduate School PLAN workshops are also published. We ask you to check out the Feb. 4, 2021 session, especially, because there are two research conferences coming up and one's being hosted by CEHD/UofL! So, if you're working on a research project, have results to share, or you're workshopping your idea, then consider submitting your proposal to get some feedback. The 2/4/2021 PLAN workshop will get you prepped to submit an amazing proposal!

  • College of Education & Human Development (CEHD) Spring Research Conference - will take place on Saturday, March 6, 2021. More details here.
  • University of Berkeley - Research Day 2021.  Research Day is an annual conference hosted by the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Education that offers an opportunity for students to share work with their peers, faculty, and community members, and engage in fruitful discussion about a range of issues in education research. Our Research Day is a space for students to gain meaningful conference experience, learn from other young scholars, and network. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Research Day will be offered virtually on Friday, April 2, 2021. The conference will still include an opening keynote, faculty-moderated paper and poster presentations, and interactive sessions.All students and faculty are encouraged to submit work, such as finished and in-progress research or non-empirical texts, through our website (GseResearchday.berkeley.edu). The submission deadline is February 28, 2021! Submissions can be made through our website here. 

A congratulatory WHOO-HOO to Stephanie Chin, a doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology program, in ECPY. She received the Kentucky Psychological Foundation Multicultural Student Professional Development Award.

January 22, 2021 from 4-5 EST - Dr. Kyle Ingle of the ELEOD department will be hosting a virtual panel on NAVIGATING A FACULTY SEARCH AND FIRST YEAR IN A PANDEMIC. This is a great event if you're considering a career in academia and how to best prepare. You must RSVP via this form in order to get the session link. Check out the flyer for information on the panelists. 

January 22, 2021 - Deadline to submit your application to attend the Graduate Student Pre-conference Seminar at the 2021 AERA conference focused on educator preparation. Check out the attachment for what needs to be submitted and what the theme is.  

January 14, 2021 from 4-5 EST - Join us for a virtual 'welcome' and 'welcome back' social hour for our newly admitted graduate students and our returning graduate students. We wanted a chance to see you all before the semester gets underway and get to know everyone a bit more!
