GSS Newsletter - Week of 9/30/20

Dear CEHD Graduate Students,

Happy Fall Break 10/9-10/16 - Bear Canyon Elementary Website

First, have a safe and great Fall Break, CEHD grads! We know that this is an unusual year, and your normal Fall Break plans have been disrupted. But, there is a lot of joy that a stay-cation can bring. We hope everyone remains safe and healthy during a few days away.

Per the recent university announcement, all students, faculty and staff who are on campus, or plan to be on campus periodically, are required to get tested for COVID-19. One mandatory test must be taken between the dates of Monday, Oct. 5 to Friday, Oct. 23. More information on how to schedule your COVID test is here.

BREONNA TAYLOR MEMORIAL WALK: Please join UofL's CODRE (Commission on Equality & Racial Equality) members at 3:15p EST on Friday, October 2, 2020 for a peaceful walk to honor a life cut too short and to promote voter registration (and voting) before voter registration closes on October 5, 2020. Check out the event flyer and walking map for more information.

SPENCER'S CORNER: Register to vote! Spencer explains the importance of voting in this week's spotlight video. The last day to register to vote (at least in Kentucky) is October 5, 2020, which is the first day of Fall Break. Take some time this weekend and register to vote - it's easy to do. You can also decide how you plan to vote based on what options your state provides: in-person on Election Day, early-voting, or absentee ballot.

FAFSA CORNER: Students will be able to file their 2021-2022 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on October 1, 2020, using 2019 income and tax data. NOTE: In the past many of you probably went to www.FAFSA.gov  to submit your application, but that has changed. Please use www.studentaid.gov

The mobile app called myStudentAid  has been a highly successful tool especially for students that may not have reliable access to WiFi or own a personal computer.  The app allows students or parents to securely fill out the FAFSA entirely from their mobile device. The app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play for AndroidFor specific help, a student can always reach out to our office at finaid@louisville.edu or by phone at (502) 852-5511.

Winter registration will begin on October 12, 2020. More information on course offerings can be found here. Consider taking a class and getting ahead!
