GSS Newsletter - Week of 9/2

Dear CEHD Graduate Students,

We've made it to our first long weekend! Don't forget, UofL is closed on Monday, Sept. 7, 2020 in observance of Labor Day. If you'll be leaving campus for the extended weekend, please exercise caution and stay safe.

In this week's installment of our newsletter, we wanted to focus on upcoming campus events and deadlines. Plus, our GA Spencer Stone educates us on the Kentucky Derby (as if we didn't already know - but seriously, a lot of it was new to me).

SPENCER'S KENTUCKY DERBY CORNER:

FYI: December 2020 Degree Application Deadlines: 10/15/2020 and 11/14/2020. Submit your app via ulink.
Doctoral students: Your diss/thesis needs to be on file with the Graduate School by 11/30/2020 & you need to apply for your degree by one of the dates above!

P.L.A.N. WORKSHOPS: Our friends at the Graduate School are hosting several virtual workshops of interest. Mark your calendars for the following workshops:

UPCOMING GSS VIRTUAL SOCIAL EVENTS: We're looking forward to connecting with you all! Join us on 9/10/2020 @ 2:00p EST for our Virtual Coffee Klatch where we'll talk about ways that we can build a more inclusive and diverse CEHD community. Bring your own warm beverage!

UNIVERSITY CAREER CENTER CORNER: Virtual will be the word of 2020, and the UCC is making sure that all students have an opportunity to connect with a career counselor to get ready for upcoming virtual career fairs. The Fall Internship & Career Fair (for all majors) is scheduled on September 30, 2020, and the Graduate & Professional School Fair is scheduled for October 14, 2020. Visit the UCC page for more information.

CAMPUS RESOURCES ALERT: University Writing Center is you one-stop-shop for writing needs - even VIRTUALLY. University Writing Center serves everyone in the UofL community, including undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff. We can help you at any point in your writing process, from getting started with an idea, to working on a first draft, to revision and copy editing. We are not an editing service, but we can help you become a better writer. If it involves writing, we are happy to work with you on it. So bring it by!

STAY CONNECTED WITH US: Each you have also been added to a Teams channel based on your level of graduate study - masters or doctoral - so that we can be easily in touch. Drop us a line anytime.
