About the School

The University of Louisville School of Nursing is an essential partner of a research-intensive academic health science center in a nationally recognized University serving a metropolitan community. It's where the science of nursing transforms the art of caring.

The School of Nursing's location on the UofL Health Sciences Center affords nursing faculty and students the opportunity to collaborate and partner in interdisciplinary and multi-site research and to learn together with other health professionals through simulation technology. Our Owensboro location is designed for students to receive their education through a partnership with Owensboro Health, an integrated system with two hospitals serving an 18 county region.Being part of a university on the move allows us to serve the Metro Louisville and state of Kentucky communities.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

The School of Nursing intentionally fosters equity, diversity, and inclusion through educational opportunities, raising awareness, and providing strategies to bring to life the vision of inclusion excellence both within nursing and in our communities.

Office of the Dean

As a school, we remain highly responsive to both local and national factors. The Institute of Medicine's (IOM) The Future of Nursing report challenges schools to double the number of doctoral prepared nurses by 2020. Out of 3 million nurses nationally, less than 1% have a doctorate in nursing or related field. Our school is working to increase that number through our PhD and DNP programs. Since the inception of the PhD Program in 2005, 27 graduates have completed the program, and another 24 students are currently enrolled.
