We’re proud to share that Dr. Brandon McCormack, Flora Schildknecht, and Meg Kennedy have all won awards—and James Richie was an award finalist—in recognition of their contributions to the College of Arts & Sciences, the University of Louisville, and the wider community! Below are excerpts from the nomination letters that explain why they are so deserving of these honors.

Dr. Brandon McCormack

Presidential and A&S Distinguished Faculty Award in Service to the Community, Kentucky, and/or the Region

“Dr. Brandon McCormack’s life is comprised of service—from his work as a teacher, to his engaged scholarship, to his dedicated participation in the life of the varied communities to which he belongs. One of the most notable areas in the community where Dr. McCormack has donated his time is public education. He was a member of the Muhammad Ali Center Curriculum Revision Committee, which revised the curriculum for the “Spirituality” unit used by K–12 schools across Kentucky. He has been a member of the JCPS Office of Diversity, Equity, and Poverty, where he established and led a series of professional development workshops on the role of religion in DEI conversations. Moreover, he serves on a number of committees for our local public arts and culture institutions. For example, as a member of the Speed Art Museum Community Engagement Steering Committee, he participated in the development of a national exhibit honoring Breonna Taylor and engaging the broader community.” — Dr. Pamela Beattie

Flora K. Schildknecht

A&S Graduate Student Excellence in Teaching Award

“Flora’s class was impressive for its rigor, timeliness, and, crucially, pedagogical success. Students articulated sophisticated responses to contemporary art, and engaged in critical, creative expression of their own. … The feel of the class was orderly, serious, while also conversational and warm.” — Dr. Karl Swinehart

James Richie

A&S Graduate Student Excellence in Teaching Award (Finalist)

“James Richie’s pedagogical training shines through in how he approaches class discussions, even as a student. He is always sure to explain himself in the clearest possible manner and is mindful to bring others along in classroom discussions.” — Dr. Karl Swinehart

Meg Kennedy

A&S Outstanding Performance Award

“Meg Kennedy’s professionalism ensures the smooth operations of our initiatives both big and small. … Her communications are always thorough, accurate, and always friendly, and helpful. She goes above and beyond the basic requirements of her role, bringing a high level of sophistication and elegance to the completion of tasks.” — Dr. Karl Swinehart
