English PhD alum receives CCCC grant
Dr. Michelle L. Day (PhD, 2019) has won a 2020-21 Emergent Researcher Award from the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC). The $5,600 grant has been awarded to continue the project “Trauma-Informed Writing Pedagogy: A Pilot Study of an Evidence-Based Training Initiative,” with collaborator Sara Williams in the Kent School of Social Work.
Michelle Day received her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from UofL in May 2019, with a dissertation titled “Wounds and Writing": Building Trauma-Informed Approaches to Writing Pedagogy.” Dr. Day is a full-time instructor at the Walden School in Louisville and was previously a doctoral fellow at the Cooperative Consortium for Transdisciplinary Social Justice Research at UofL. Her article “Strategies for Implementing Safe and Effective Yoga Programs” (co-authored with Abigail Day, Daniela Terson de Paleville, and Kristi M. King) was published in American College of Sports Medicine Health and Fitness Journal in 2018, and her article “On Trauma and Safety: Toward Trauma-Informed Research Methods” was published in Making Future Matters: Computers and Composition in 2018.
