Commitment to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Colleagues, 

Accessibility to university programs and services is critically important to the University of Louisville. The university is not only responsible for ensuring its programs and services are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities, but it is committed to this responsibility. 

As part of its responsibility and commitment, the university adopted a statement on commitment to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The university established an Office of ADA Compliance to assist with oversight of ADA requirements. Further, the university developed an online accessibility plan. The plan documents how the university intends to maintain accessible features, including the accessibility of its services, programs, and online activities. In addition, the university established a new position, ADA website accessibility compliance coordinator, to oversee, implement, and provide awareness of the online accessibility plan. The university also continues to provide resources to assist with student accessibility issues through the Disability Resource Center, or making an employee accommodation request through the Human Resources department. Information on submitting an employee accommodation request can be found online on the Human Resources department website. The university also provides online resources for questions students, employees, or visitors may have regarding accessibility, including creating accessible documents. These resources can be found online on the university’s ADA website.

It is imperative that the university ensures equal access to this information as the use of technology, online programs, and services are essential access points for everyone. The use of technology without regard to accessibility hinders access for some people. Please contact one of the university’s accessibility offices to ask questions or obtain assistance with making your documents accessible. You can also refer to the university’s accessibility resources that are available online for clarification or guidance. 

Persons with disabilities must be afforded the opportunity to acquire the same information, engage in the same interactions, and enjoy the same services as people without disabilities. The university community must work together to ensure university programs and services are accessible to persons with disabilities.
