How to Apply for Aid
Start with these steps to apply for aid and help fund your future. This is a general list. Additional steps may be required depending on your student type and aid received.

Apply to UofL
To begin the aid process, apply to UofL and submit all materials required for admission. UofL will only send financial aid offers to accepted students.

Submit the FAFSA
Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your financial need and see your eligibility for federal aid. The 25-26 FAFSA will be available on December 1.

Optional: Apply for Competitive & Mentored Scholarships
UofL has a variety of admissions based scholarship opportunities, including automatic, competitive, and mentored scholarships. Competitive and Mentored scholarships do require additional application materials. If you qualify, you’ll find application instructions in your UofL New Cards Gateway. The deadline to submit all application materials is Dec. 15.

Receive Your Award Notification
Once you complete your financial aid profile, the Student Financial Aid Office delivers an award notification via mail and/or email. This includes your full financial aid offer, detailing any loans, grants or scholarships you are awarded or are eligible to receive.
After you review your financial aid offer, you must officially accept any loans (federal or alternative) that you want to receive through the ULink portal. To accept aid scholarships, accept the award's terms of agreement (TOA) in your New Cards Gateway.
