Work Study
Sidebar
Federal Work-Study is a federal student aid program that provides part-time jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. For additional information, please visit the U.S. Department of Education Federal Work-Study website.
Students are reviewed for work study eligibility based on their 2025-2026 FAFSA and unmet need. Priority for awarding of Federal Work-Study funds goes to Pell Grant eligible students. If you do not complete or are not eligible to complete a FAFSA form, you will not be eligible for Federal Work-Study funding.
If you have been awarded financial aid through the Federal Work-Study program, you will be given the opportunity to seek employment on one of the University's campuses. At UofL, the hourly wage for Federal Work-Study students is $15.00 for an estimated 15 hours per week. Your Federal Work-Study offered amount listed on your award notification is the maximum you may earn during the award period. This is not a guarantee you will earn this amount, but rather it is a reasonable estimate of what you should be able to earn.
Students can look for open positions on the Career Development website listed below. New job postings for the 2025-2026 academic year will be posted after July 1, 2025.
Students are also encouraged to consider community service jobs. On-campus community service opportunities are available at the library, the Early Learning Campus and the Student Financial Aid Office. Off-campus community service opportunities are available as part of the Reading Tutor Community Service Program, by working as reading tutor in certain local elementary schools. Hopefully, you will be able to secure a job related to your vocational goals, previous work experience, or special skills.
At this time we are no longer making Federal Work-Study awards for the Fall 2025/Spring 2026 academic year. We will review the Federal Work-study budget in mid-September to determine whether additional awards can be made for the fall or spring terms. The Federal Work Study Request form has been deactivated and will remain unavailable until the review process has been completed.
