Adolescent Medicine and Rheumatology
The Division of Adolescent Medicine provides educational opportunities to medical students, residents and fellows in the understanding of normal adolescent growth and the effect of varied psychological and medical diseases which can impact the overall health of the adolescent.
Rotations are provided through the Department of Pediatrics Office of Medical Education and are based at:
- A county youth correctional facility
- Hospital-based Pediatric and Adolescent gynecology clinic
- Residential treatment facility for abused teenage girls
- An Adolescent Psychiatry clinic
- University of Louisville Physicians Pediatric Rheumatology clinic
- Ryan Residency training program in Family Planning
- University of Louisville Student Health Service
The division also sponsors the Elliot Podoll Lectureship in Adolescent Medicine, an annual lecture in the Department of Pediatrics Grand Rounds.The lectureship was endowed in memory of a longtime Louisville pediatrician and clinical faculty member at the University of Louisville, who was a local pioneer in the provision of appropriate health care services for adolescents.The family established the yearly lectureship to bring an expert in the field of Adolescent Medicine to the Medical Center to carry on what Dr. Podoll cared so much about, an increased awareness and the skills necessary to improve the lives of young people in our region.
