Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship

Program Overview

Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Fellowship Program is a two-year ACGME-accredited program
currently recruiting its first fellow for July 2023.

Fellowship Program Mission:

To train the next generation of pediatric hospitalists to be astute clinicians, innovative educators, dedicated advocates, and compassionate physicians by equipping PHM fellows with the knowledge, skills, mentorship, and resources to become leaders in the field, and advance the care of hospitalized children and adolescents.

Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Fellows will spend their core and individualized rotations at Norton Children's Hospital, the state's only free-standing children's hospital.  Norton Children's Hospital provides critical care and access to children and adolescents throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana with a Level I Trauma Center, approximately 300 beds, and numerous subspecialties. The Pediatric Hospitalist service has more than 5,000 admissions per year providing care for general pediatric illnesses in addition to managing complex care, technology-dependent, surgical, and behavioral health patients.

In addition, Fellows will spend time at Norton Women's and Children's Hospital, an adult hospital with a 14-bed pediatric unit, a 40-bed NICU, and a fully staffed 12-bed Pediatric Emergency Department located 10 miles east of Norton Children's Hospital. This site will serve as the training site for community and newborn experiences.

The Pediatric Hospital Medicine team is comprised of:

25 - pediatric faculty members
  4 - medicine/pediatrics faculty members
  4 - nurse clinicians
  1 - fellowship coordinator

Pediatric Hospital Medicine faculty are an active and engaged group of clinicians, teachers, and mentors who work at both hospital sites. Members of the division serve in key leadership roles including the Department Chair, Pediatric Residency Program Director, and Medicine-Pediatric Program Co-Directors. In addition, our faculty members are engaged in many non-clinical roles including medical education, quality improvement, patient safety, business operations, global health, public health, and advocacy.

The Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellowship program is ACGME accreditated and accepts one fellow per year. Our first fellow started in July 2023.
