Trump incited violence at campaign rally, argues Brandeis Law professor
In an April 29, 2017, article in Salon, a Brandeis Law professor disagrees with the ACLU's defense of Donal Trump's comments during a 2016 campaign rally in Louisville.
Professor JoAnne Sweeny, whose scholarly interests include freedom of expression, argues that Trump's comments incited violence at the rally and therefore should not be protected by the First Amendment.
"What he did was precisely why the incitement doctrine was created — to stop speech that leads directly to violence. This was not advocacy; it was a call to arms," Sweeny writes in the article.
