Supreme Court Historical Society commemorates Brandeis centennial year
About 200 people gathered in Washington D.C. on Oct. 19 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Justice Louis Brandeis' appointment to the Supreme Court.
The event was hosted by Brandeis Law and the Supreme Court Historical Society.
Brandeis biographer Melvin Urofsky delivered remarks about Justice Brandeis and his influence as a member of the Court.
Several past recipients of the law school's Brandeis Medal were in attendance: Justice Elena Kagan (2016), Melvin Urofsky (2010), Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (2003) and Stephen Bright (1998). Judi Dash, daughter of the late Sam Dash (2001 recipient) was also present.
Professor Mark Rothstein, 2013 recipient of the Louis D. Brandeis Privacy Award from the Patient Privacy Rights Organization, was also recognized.
Brandeis family members attending included Walter Raushenbush and Frank Gilbert (grandsons of Louis Brandeis) and great grandchildren Lorraine Bucy, Richard Raushenbush, Ann Brandeis Popkin and Louisa Popkin.
Donald Burnett, dean of the Brandeis School of Law from 1990 to 2000 during which the law school was named for Justice Brandeis, was also a guest.
