Professor Powell the featured speaker at Cleveland event on the 13th Amendment
Brandeis School of Law Professor Cedric Merlin Powell was the plenary speaker at an event over the weekend at the East Cleveland Public Library and hosted by the National Institute for Restorative Justice. The topic was "The 13th Amendment and the Criminalization of Black America."
The event coincided with the 150th anniversary of the ratification of the 13th Amendment.
The event's agenda specifically focused on four areas: The Double Standard of the Criminal Justice System; the 13th Amendment and the Criminalization of Black America; the Sociological Effective of Criminalization on Communities; and Actions for Advocacy.
Professor Powell is a National Advisory Board Member of the NIRJ.
