Professor Arnold featured in WalletHub’s ‘2015 Best/Worst Cities to Live’ article

Professor Tony Arnold provided the expert commentary for WalletHub’s recently published feature, “2015 Best & Worst Large Cities to Live In.”

The article analyzes what makes urban centers attractive for residents, including activities, food options, jobs and more. WalletHub compared the attractiveness of all the large cities in the U.S. in terms of livability, the quality of their health and education systems, economic growth and tax rates. The data set includes a total of 31 key metrics.

Professor Arnold was asked what the most important financial factors are to consider when deciding where to live:

“ … Moving beyond the basics, make a comparison chart of: 1) The typical housing costs in each city for the type of housing and neighborhood that is important to you; 2) Typical utility costs for the kind of housing you want; 3) The costs of taxes and insurance in each location; and 4) The costs of transportation between home and work and between home and shopping for the housing area and job that you’re likely to end up with in a given location.”

The Top 10 cities on WalletHub’s list this year include:

  1. Austin, Texas
  2. Raleigh, North Carolina
  3. Colorado Springs, Colorado
  4. San Jose, California
  5. Seattle, Washington
