Prof. Rothstein to present on special education law
Professor Laura Rothstein will present the seventh annual Dr. Thomas H. Pinkstaff Memorial Lectureship on March 3, 2017.
Sponsored by the University of Louisville School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics, the lecture is geared toward medical professionals.
Along with R. Larry Taylor, executive director of UofL's Kentucky Autism Training Center, Rothstein will cover these areas:
- Basic provisions of the major federal substantive law relating to rights of individuals with disabilities in the K-12 school context;
- Practical information about the procedures of how to implement these laws and how to provide information to the parents and schools to ensure that these children are able to receive special education and related services;
- The relationship of a medical diagnosis to the documentation required by educational agencies to qualify a student for special education and related services;
- Basic ethical considerations to consider in these situations.
