Fourth annual Flexner Forum to focus on judicial recusal
The fourth annual Flexner Forum will delve deeper into a recent case involving judicial recusal.
Prof. Grace Giesel, Bernard Flexner Professor and and Distinguished Teaching Professor, will address Williams v. Pennsylvania in her presentation. In this case, the U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that the defendant's right to due process was violated when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court chief justice who had been the district attorney during the trial and capital sentencing refused to recuse himself from the defendant's death penalty appeal.
Giesel, some of whose research focuses on professional responsibility, had been following the case and believes the issues at play will be of interest to the audience.
This year's Flexner Forum is from 12 p.m. to 1 Sept. 13 in Room 275 of the Brandeis School of Law. It is free and open to the law school community.
