Dean's Town Hall meeting highlights student successes
Brandeis School of Law Dean Susan Duncan hosted a Town Hall meeting today for interested students, staff and faculty, providing some highlights from the past year and addressing questions and concerns from the audience.
Dean Duncan's PowerPoint presentation provided an overview of the Law School's strategic plan, fundraising efforts, community engagement initiatives, interdisciplinary approach and more. She also underscored recent alumni, faculty and student success stories, including:
- The Class of 2015 performed 8,977 hours of public service, averaging more than 53 hours per student;
- The University of Louisville Law Review received its highest ranking ever, in the top 18.1 percent;
- The school has won the Kentucky Intrastate Moot Trial Competition two years in a row;
- The school has the highest bar passage rate of any law school in the state.
"Whenever I give a presentation to an alum or a law firm, I always start with our students. There is so much to brag about. I would put you up against any student body at any law school in the country. I am very proud of your stories," Dean Duncan said.
Dean Duncan also addressed newly announced budget proposals from Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin, which could include cuts to higher education.
"We have to wait until April to know what this really means, but we are planning for any cuts that may occur. If we do have to make cuts we will make cuts that do the least amount of harm to our students," Dean Duncan said.
