Brandeis Law mourns the death of Doug Myers
Doug Myers, a 1974 Brandeis Law alumnus and well-known Kentucky attorney, died Oct. 30 following complications from surgery.
Myers was a civil litigation attorney with the Hopkinsville, Ky., firm of Deatherage, Myers & Lackey PLLC.
He was president of the Kentucky Bar Association from 2012-2013.
Following his service as an officer of the KBA, Myers led the committee that created the KBA's 2015-2016 strategic plan. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the KBA's Budget Committee and had also recently begun serving as a member of the Kentucky Bar Foundation Board of Directors.
In 2015, Myers received the Kentucky Justice Association's Peter Perlman Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award. The award is presented to a recipient who "demonstrates exceptional talent as a trial practitioner, fights for the rights of consumers — even when cases and causes may be unpopular — shares his or her legal talents with young lawyers and other members of the bar, and gives back to the legal profession by working with others to protect America’s constitutional right to trial by jury."
Myers was named a Distinguished Alumnus by Brandeis Law in 2013.
"Doug was a great friend to the law school and a shining example of what it means to be a member of the Kentucky legal community," said Dean Susan Duncan. "His talent, energy and kindness will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers go to his wife, Jan, and the rest of their family."
In lieu of flowers and gifts, The W. Douglas Myers Memorial Fund at the University of Louisville Brandeis Law School has been established for those wishing to contribute.
Memorials can be sent to University of Louisville, 2323 South Brook Street, Room 103B, Louisville, Kentucky 40292. Online donations are also available.
