3L selected as volunteer leadership ambassador
Joey Wilkerson, a third-year student who will graduate from the Brandeis School of Law in December 2018, has been selected as a NeXt ambassador for Fund for the Arts.
The NeXt program pairs ambassadors with regional nonprofits to work on projects involving collaborative initiatives, audience development, event management, program implementation, business operations, marketing and communications and philanthropy.
Wilkerson, who has served as the Student Bar Association's public service chair, has a demonstrated record of community engagement — under his leadership, the SBA was awarded the University of Louisville's 2018 Spirit of Service award.
He says he is excited about this new leadership development opportunity.
"My love of the arts stem from the many years I participated in choir and theatre back home in New Albany. The skills I learned in 10 years of theatre are the same ones I use when delivering my directs and closings in mock trial. About a month ago one of my mentors, Metro Council President David James, advised me that the next step I need to take in pursuing a career in government is board membership in the city.
"At the conclusion of the program, I hope combine my love of law, the arts and public service by severing on the board of one of the many fine art organizations we have here in Louisville," he says.
The NeXt Ambassador Program is sponsored by Stoll Keenon Ogden.
