Returning Applicants
Returning students have attended UofL before and were enrolled in a degree-seeking program. This does not include dual credit completed during high school.
Do you have a bachelor's degree and are pursuing a second bachelor's degree? If so, and you have credit from UofL, you are a returning student who will also be classified as a returning second-degree senior.
- Who is not a returning second-degree senior?
- Students interested in a master's, professional or doctoral degree. Please visit Graduate Admissions for more information.
- Students who have earned an associate's degree only and not a bachelor's degree. You will still apply as either a transfer or returning student.
- Students who have a bachelor's degree, but no previous degree-seeking credits from UofL. These students need to apply as transfer applicants.
Who is not a returning student?
- If you have previously attended a college other than UofL (not including dual credit completed during high school), please apply to UofL as a transfer applicant.
As a returning student, you don't need to request your UofL transcript. There are two processes for returning students:
- If you attended UofL within less than two years, or if you previously took courses as a senior citizen, you need to complete a request to reenroll.
- If you last attended UofL more than two years ago, you will need to complete a new application for undergraduate admission.
Not sure when you last attended classes at UofL? Please contact our office at 502-852-0166 or transfer@louisville.edu.

Fresh Start Application
Fresh Start is for students who have deficiencies in their academic record. Using the Fresh Start option, students who have previously attended UofL may request UofL to reset their previous cumulative grade point average. To qualify for Fresh Start you must:
- have previously attended UofL as an undergraduate student and be returning as an undergraduate student
- not have attended UofL in the last two years
- not have earned a bachelor’s degree
- meet with an advisor in your academic unit prior to submitting the Fresh Start application
- submit an application for admission, which includes a non-refundable $30 application fee.
Students considering this option are strongly encouraged to consult with their academic advisor for guidance.
