Up Close & Personal Shadow Visits
Experience Life as a Cardinal
During your shadow visit, you will:
- Attend a UofL class
- Have lunch with a current student
- Participate in 3-5 optional meetings with academic programs, the University Honors Program, Admissions, campus services and more based on your interests
Shadow visits are available through November 2024. Please keep in mind that shadow visits require a minimum of two weeks' notice and are intended for high school juniors and seniors. Contact the Office of Admissions at admitme@louisville.edu with questions or to discuss visit details.
Shadow Visit Highlights
Attend a UofL Class
Experience UofL academics firsthand by observing 1-2 classes within your academic or major program of interest. Please note that total class sessions and course offerings for the day are subject to scheduling availability.
Lunch with a Current Student
Grab a bite to eat with your student host at one of our many on-campus dining locations. Learn more about student life, involvement opportunities and campus resources and communities.
Academic Department Visit
Learn more in-depth about your specific major or program of interest and meet with faculty or staff from your UofL academic department of choice. Most meetings run 30 minutes.
University Honors Program
Meet with the University Honors Program to hear more about the unique benefits and opportunities that come with being an Honors student. Learn what it takes to join and speak directly with an Honors staff member. Most meetings run 45 minutes.
Scholarships and Guaranteed Entrance Programs
Learn about competitive and mentored scholarships for in-state and out-of-state students and hear about UofL's prestigious guaranteed entrance programs. Ask questions about tuition, scholarships, financial aid and more.
Meet with Admissions
Meet with an Office of Admissions staff member and ask questions about admission requirements, the application process and more. Please note that your assigned admissions counselor may not be available during your visit.
Explore Campus Services
Gain insight on available campus resources by narrowing in on your specific needs and interests. Visit the Cultural and Equity Center, the Disability Resource Center, the Student Recreation Center and more.
Individualized Campus Tour
Take time to walk around our scenic, park-like campus and experience all that UofL has to offer you. Get a personalized feel of our vibrant and welcoming community through a 60-minute one-on-one campus tour led by a current student.

Make the most of your day on campus by letting us know other things you want to see or learn about! Please note that additional requested offerings may not be possible to accommodate due to scheduling availability.
Prepare For Your Visit
Shadow visits are offered on weekdays through November 2024 and typically last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Time. Other time frames may be available, so please let us know if you have scheduling concerns.
Once we receive your request, we will reach out to confirm your visit. We will then work to build a personalized visit itinerary that suits your unique needs and interests, and you will receive your final itinerary 2-3 days ahead of your visit. Please note that visit offerings may vary depending on shadow host course schedules and requested unit and program availability.

Accommodations can be requested when you register for your shadow visit. On your registration form, you can indicate if you or your accompanying guest(s) require any special accommodations, including physical accommodations, dietary restrictions and translation services.

Written directions to North Information Center
Please plan to arrive no later than 15 minutes before your visit time to allow for parking and travel.
The walk from the North Information Center to the Office of Admissions is approximately 4 minutes. Once you arrive at the North Information Center, please make your way to the Office of Admissions, which is located in Room 150 of the Houchens Building and where your shadow visit will begin.
You will also receive specific details about directions and parking within your final visit itinerary.
Student guests will receive a lunch voucher to use at any of our on-campus dining locations. You will receive your voucher when you check in for your shadow visit.
With many dining options on campus, UofL makes finding good food easy. From fast food to farm-to-table, UofL offers students an extensive menu of dining choices. Some locations include: Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Wendy's, The Ville Grill and the Student Activities Center Marketplace.
Our staff will make every effort to keep your shadow visit appointment. If your visit is canceled for inclement weather or an emergency, we will contact you as soon as possible.
- If classes are canceled and the university is closed, the program will be canceled as well.
- If there is severe weather on the day of your visit, check our campus weather status on our homepage or call 502.852.5555 for the open status of our University.
- If your visit is canceled, but you have already traveled to Louisville, please contact us and we will try our best to work with you!
Here are some helpful tips to prepare for your visit:
- Dress casually and for the weather. Shadow visits will continue rain or shine, barring any emergency weather.
- Comfortable shoes are a must.
- A jacket or umbrella are helpful in case of rain. You can request a rain poncho from our staff if you need one.
- Bring a refillable water bottle.
