About the Program

The Second Degree BSN program is a hybrid accelerated program that prepares students with a bachelor's degree in any area outside of nursing to become entry-level professional nurses. This program has two locations: Louisville, Kentucky and Owensboro, Kentucky.

Hybrid programs are a combination of online and in-person instruction. Course lectures will be offered online. Clinical experiences will be completed at the location you are admitted.
Upon program completion, students earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) for registered nursing licensure.

Program Features

  • Four semesters (15 months, prerequisites not included) full-time program with courses beginning in mid-May and continuous enrollment through summer of the following year.
  • Didactic (lecture) portion of courses offered online. Clinical and lab expectation is two days per week full-time.
  • Clinical experience begins in the first semester in either Louisville or Owensboro, Kentucky depending on which program you are admitted.
  • Over 500 total in-person clinical hours in a variety of clinical settings.
  • Variety of experiences in on-site high-fidelity simulation labs.

Graduates from the UofL School of Nursing are prepared to apply for RN licensure upon graduation; however, educational preparation does not guarantee professional licensure.
