Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics Fellowship Program
Our three-year fellowship is an ACGME accredited program whose purpose is to prepare you for a career in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics including patient care, teaching, research/scholarship, leadership and advocacy. Our program is located in the Norton Children's - Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics (formally known as the UofL Weisskopf Center) which was established in 1966 and provides state of the art interdisciplinary diagnostic and treatment services for children with developmental disorders. Faculty and clinicians include developmental-behavioral pediatricians, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and social workers.
Fellows receive exceptional clinical training in our rich interdisciplinary environment. They provide evaluation and care for children with a range of developmental and behavioral conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, developmental delay, feeding disorders, learning disability, fetal alcohol syndrome, fragile X syndrome, tourette’s disorder, behavior and mood disorders, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Our training program consists of a comprehensive clinical experience, primarily based at the Norton Children's Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics office at the Novak Center for Children's Health, and includes rotations with other service lines such as child neurology and child & adolescent psychology and psychiatry. Fellows have the opportunity to graduate with a Master’s degree via the Clinical Investigation Science Program in the School of Public Health and Information Sciences. Fellows continue in advanced clinical and leadership training during the 2nd and 3rd years, and will select a research project with increasing time allotted over the course of the 3-year program.
Upon successful completion of the fellowship program, our fellow(s) will be eligible to sit for board certification in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics.
Goals & Objectives
Our fellows will:
- Demonstrate clinical skills in developmental and behavioral pediatrics.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of developmental and behavioral pediatrics, and the ability to retrieve and utilize biomedical information to inform problem-solving and decision-making.
- Demonstrate ability to investigate and evaluate patient care practices, identify gaps in knowledge, and assimilate scientific evidence in order to improve patient care practices
- Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills to effectively exchange information and work together with patients, families, and associates.
- Demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities, adhering to ethical principles, and being sensitive to patient diversity.
- Demonstrate awareness of and responsiveness to the larger context and system of health care and the ability to effectively call on system resources to provide optimal care.
- Demonstrate understanding of principles of research; engage in critical evaluation of ongoing research projects and of pertinent medical literature; and develop and implement a research project, which will culminate in presentation of results and submission for publication.
